What does it mean to debrand? - HTC Sensation

Hey, I was wondering what does it mean to debrand a phone? I noticed a lot people mention debranding and I am wondering what is it and what does it do?
Also, should I do? Will it make a difference if I ever want to install Cyanogenmod if that ever comes out?
Btw I am a Tmobile HTC Sensation owner if that makes any difference

http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090503022231AA5ryws
that's all i can help you !

Ahh makes sense, so say I debrand my phone, and it removes an app or a program that I do find myself using, say "lookout" or "qik" can I just download them from the marketplace?
Also, Is there any point in debranding if I plan on installing Cyanogenmod?

You can install lookout from the market. However, I'm not sure about qik, as it's branded as "Tmo video chat by qik" on the market.

I'm debranded tmous...yes qik is available on the market as are all tmobile crapware apps except telenav.

yep id like to know this also, Is there any point in debranding if I plan on installing Cyanogenmod?
i have a sensation have turned S-off and downloaded opensensation if my phone has vodafone branding ie splashscreen etc will install cyanogen sensation ics rom debrand the phone also? or do i need to do the whole cid change thing and then install an RUU like in step 19 here.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1193033
Thanks in advance!

If you install cm9 or cm7 you will get an ubranded phone software user interface wise

Official rom update for rogers from HTC

ok seems theres an official update from HTC for our rogers phones anyone try it yet http://www.htc.com/ca/SupportDownloadList.aspx?p_id=270&act=sd&cat=2
Ooooh, eeenteresting....
Code:
Why is updating the software on your device recommended?
The ROM software update posted below provides several key enhancements for your HTC Dream:
-Improves the overall device functionality and stability
-Enables correct SMS timestamp [B]<<<<<<<<<<!!!!![/B]
-Enables Chinese character display for POP3 HTML Emails
-Corrects E-mail client exchange Issues
yes can it be timestamp fix heaven? lol.. just wondering if this is going to work for rooted or non 32a magic.. or both
The update pages says "HTC Magic (Rogers)" but when I stick in my S/N it says: Sorry, this software download is not suitable for your device. Bummer since my phone and box say HTC Rogers on them.

ditto :/
i just got the S/N from the box as I didnt want to remove the battery.
yeah i noticed it also.. comes up when you select Rogers Magic.. but if you noticed in the notes.. some of which also posted above.. it says enhance dream isssues... will try my s/n and let you know
you can get the files from the rogers support page.. i used this link to get there http://www.androidincanada.ca/news/update-rogers-htc-dreammagic-android-timestamp-problem/
I have the direct link here:
http://downloads.rogers.com/wireless/products/htc/magic/RUU_Sapphire_Rogers_WWE_2.17.631.2_release_signed_NoDriver.exe
Be careful as this update will more than likely install a Perfect SPL on your device. You will need to re-root your device after installing this. Could be a painful process.
I'm going to wait for somebody who knows what they're doing to remove the important bits from this update.
Cheers!
my thoughts exactly.. the way they have been putting the perfect spl on devices that didnt have it.... I tried it ( im running Jacheroski 2.7.4r2) and it didnt even recognize my phone. I was reading on the HTC site that you need HTC sync software first... thought that was for hero.. anyways.. have to run out for a bit will check back later... on a side note.. if this actually unroots your phone and puts the rogers apps back on .. couldnt someone tweak this up date and make it a restore rom?
I can confirm that it installs a 'Perfected SPL'.
Version 1.33.0010 to be exact.
Proceed with caution! I read through some posts on how to root these devices with 1.33.0010 and I really wouldn't want to have to do that.
I haven't installed the ROM image, and I won't.
After running the RUU (before you even click Next or accept the terms), you can find rom.zip in "%TEMP%\{F313B180-FF83-48A8-B925-E14312A5AFCB}\{50F2F878-636A-496F-A7CB-544C067E0C4B}"
I'm sorry if this isn't being asked in the correct place but as this thread is already discussing the new ROM update I was hoping that someone here could please tell me whether or not this ROM update would SIM relock a SIM unlocked Rogers Magic phone?
I am asking because I should be recieving my new unlocked Rogers Magic (that I am going to be using on AT&T) any day now and while I wouldn't mind updating it with the new ROM I really don't want to go through the expense and hassle of having to SIM unlock it when part of the reason I bought the one I did on ebay is because it is already SIM unlocked. Thanks in advance for any information on this.

I really doubt it will. I don't know exactly how SIM unlocking works, but this update shouldn't touch those settings.
Why run the Rogers update with all of it's restrictions and crappy software? Download and install any one of the dozens of better ROMs available in this forum.
First let me admit that I am a total NOOB with Android and even the idea of flashing custom ROMs on cellphones (the phone I am upgrading from is an 8525 and had an 8125 before that and the only time I remember flashing either was updating the official ROM to 6.0 off of HTC's site). I guess this makes me a little behind the times but my idea of customizing was installing programs like Pockets Plus and then Mobile Shell 3 because I'm not a programmer and was a little intimidated about cooking the ROMS.
That said I was thinking of running the stock ROM atleast for a little while to get an idea of just what I like and don't like about it and then being more knowledgeable when I research what ROM I should upgrade to? Is there a list of the ROMs and what their customizations are for the Rogers version? Do you have any advise on what ROM's I should look at and what the differences are?
I'm afraid that I will be somewhat overwhelmed with the number of choices to be made. Besides, I use my phone on my job so I can't risk it having issues or having to reinstall everything on a regular basis so continually flashing it with new ROM's as they come out may not be a logical solution for me. I think I'd rather end up with something stable and able to use all the programs, etc that I need for work and play. Anyways, any advice you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
Your best bet would be to start off by running the ROM that it comes with. If you've got problems with timestamps in the ROM, use a program called ChompSMS.
Read this forum, look for information on the 32A HTC Magic. That's the version you are getting. Learn as much as you can without changing your phone at all. Once you've got enough information start by 'rooting' your phone, then play around with some custom ROMs.
Lots to learn around here. Make sure you use the search function.
The following link was made by skittleguy to try to combine all compatible roms for Rogers. There have been quite a few changes to most of these ROMS but you can go to each original thread and read up on different ROMs and their advantages and disadvantages. I believe most of the original threads are being updated from time to time, but you can always just do a search for the name of the ROM.

Personally if you want one that is stable and has all of its features working, I would go with Cyanogen's ROM v4.0.2 with Amon_RA'sv1.0.1 kernal. It is based of off MyTouch 3G. The link is below:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=544854
Having said that, there is one feature that I miss on this ROM, which is the smart dialpad.

[Q] Matter Of Choice

Fast and brief.
I want to buy a new, unlocked, HTC Inspire 4G.
I'm a noob, and don't know anything about rooting, Android, or whathaveyou, but am keen to learn and am not an idiot.
Should i buy a phone that's already rooted running on Inspired Ace or just buy a stock phone and root it myself and flash a custom ROM of my choosing?
In other words, can i, being a noob, handle rooting an Inspire and flasing a ROM all by my lonesome? What's the LATEST and BEST guide on rooting and everything else you need to get it working? I've seen a lot of literature with (outdated) near it and it's kind of annoying.
Another even stupider question. Since the phone is already rooted, i can, if i want to, flash another custom ROM if i don't like Inspired Ace without seriously f-ing it up, right?
welcome to my world as of last week. This week, I've learned that rooting is easy on the Inspire 4G. You just have to get the hack kit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=952352 And I'm gonna quote attn1: READ THE EFFEN MANUAL. I cannot stress that enough.
Once you've done all of this, you'll have a rooted Inspire 4G, but it will be on the Desire HD radio/ROM, and you'll need to flash an Inspire 4G radio, so you can have a solid base.
Go by http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1058042 to get a rooted Inspire 4G radio/Rom base with the latest HTC update. Then make sure you download ROM Manager, and from there you can backup your rom, and try out custom ROMs.
If you wanna watch how I did it, go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14618851#post14618851.

1 IMHO, I'd get a new one so you have a clean, fresh slate to work with. You don't ever truly know how the previous owner used the device(excessive OC level on a regular basis...)
2 Yes, it's very simple. I feel it's best to get your contacts imported from the sim then sync w/Google but nothing more. This way you don't have to reconfigure your phone after rooting.
3 The Ace Hack Kit from att1 is the easiest and best way. Any other method is based on his work. All the info you need is in the first post. If you have an issue, search the thread. If a concise answer cannot be found, search the forum. If still no answer, post your question in that thread, then be patient and wait for a reply. If no one can answer, at the very bottom of the first post, att1 has a link to an IRC chat channel for helping w/ issues, try there.
4 Yes. The number one rule for flashing is ALWAYS make a nandroid(basically an exact image before any changes have been made) before doing anything. This is your safety net and gives you something to fall back on should there be an issue post flash.
Tx
okay, so buy a new one. Check. Root using kit and read manual. Check. After i root, which comes first? A new radio or a new rom, or what order do you use? Can you recommend as advanced users, the most stable custom rom and radio for the inspire? This is where i usually get confused. What to do after rooting, in what order.

After you root, your phone will say "HTC Desire HD" in phone information. before you install a custom ROM, install this: http://droid.neolobster.com/roms/Ace_Cingular_US_SL_1.84.502.11_Radio_26_06_06_30_M_PD98IMG.zip (from thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1058042) . This is both a ROM and a radio, and it will give you the most up to date stock rom for the Inspire 4G (not Desire HD), but still rooted with sideloading allowed. From there, download two apps: titanium backup (to backup apps), and most importantly, ROM Manager. ROM manager has links to download many different ROMS, but before it prompts installing them, it also gives you the option of backing up your current ROM and wiping data cache, and then loading the new ROM. The link I gave u will be your base ROM.
The most popular custom ROM tends to be CyanogenMod7. I've tried that, CoreDroid 6.6, and most recently, TB Fusion 1.1.8.3. If you like HTC Sense, go with the latter two, or other Sense ROMs. If you don't like Sense or don't care about Sense, go with something like CM7.
Always remember something here: Desire HD and Inspire 4G are largely the same phone, save a few things. Most custom ROMS are optimized for the HD, but hopefully that will change soon.
Okay. Thanks. So root, install base radio and ROM, then install backup and ROM manager and then install custom ROM.
I see that the custom ROM is Cingular_US. I live in Romania and will be using the phone in Orange Romania. That's not a problem, right?

No it wont be a problem. One note though. I don't know if you already knew this when you bought/buy the phone but the inspire uses north American bands for 3g(850/1900) you will not be able to use your 3g service as it runs on 2100. If 3g service is important and haven't bought the phone I would suggest you get the desire HD as it runs (900/2100) for 3g

How do i find out what frequencies Orange Romania works on?
Orange Romania runs 3g on (900/2100)

[Q] Unrooting HTC sensation XE

Hey guys,
I wanted to unroot my HTC Sensation XE.
I want to make sure that i wont be bricking my phone.
At this moment i have downloaded the RUU:
RUU_Pyramid_LE_HTC_Europe_1.73.401.4_Radio_10.58.9035.00U_10.15.9035.02_2_release_220036_signed
from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074559
is this the right RUU for my phone ? i have restored it to stock now and at software it says 1.73.401.4 , also my phone is a Europe version i suppose since i bought it here.
Do i have to use this ROM to get it back to unrooted stock?
unrooting of htc sensation xe
did it work for u? i am also having a problem because i want to unroot and go back to the stock rom of sensation xe but i dont know how to do it..im new to this and its just that i bought a used phone but unfortunately its already rooted and has custom rom "revolution 3.6.8"...im having a problem with it and it is lagging everytime.....please HELP the newbie!
Any joy?
I've got an HTC Sensation XE (GSM) on Orange UK. Intelligently, I didn't back up the stock ROM before flashing a new one on there. Anyone know how I might get hold of the Orange branded ROM for my phone? Failing that just a stock HTC ROM? Feel pretty let down by a few apps refusing to work on a rooted phone.

[Q] HTC Sensation on Vodafone

Hi all, I am a complete Android noob and am looks for some answers.
I currently own a HTC Sensation Z710e that came with my contract on Vodafone and I am intrested in performing the whole S-Off and root thing, my question is though since I seen on the HTC Dev site that there is an EU version and a Vodafone version of the Sensation, I wanted to know if rooting on my phone would work and would I be able to install standard Senstation custom ROM's, would they install just fine or would there be issues with things such as calling or texting people? Would I need to change the radio settings around or something, if so how?
I just used the htc dev site just to see about how it works and I am probably going to use revolutionary.
I am running Android 2.3.4
You can tell I am not yet fully experienced when it comes to Android, so could I have some general tips and guidelines when it comes to modding my Sensation please.
Thanks for the help!
Yes when you root it and S off you can use any compatable rom - also unlcok the Sensation for free as well.
My phone came from Orange - S off CoreDroid for me and unlocked its
Marvellous sorry Sensational, now on Virgin
If you can read and follow instructions it's easy.

[Q] mobilicity user in canada using tmobile htc sensation

I'm living in Canada on a small network called Mobilicity and they don't sell this tmobile htc sensation. I don't need the tmobile apps cuz they don't work on our network up here. I assume that even when android 4.0 comes out on tmobile that I'm going to have to update manually? And if so should I already upgrade to android 4.0 seeing as Bell Cincinnati already is updating their sensations?
S-off, root, recovery, backup, and then install 3.32 firmware and ARHD 6.6.3...
There's no need for you to wait, and you can try other 3.32 base roms while you're at it.
Thanks a lot. I got it to work. I thought i bricked it at the CID part but was able to do it through the boot screen and get the right ID. Works amazing. Thanks for the help. I've fixed computers since age 12 and the more i went along the more natural it became.
I was rocking a Sony Ericsson TM506 for 2 years with Mobilicity up here. Then got this phone and heard there was an updated Android, and I get OCD when there's an update, i had to do it and i did it. Thanks to your help and the guides on this site.
Yep. Now you can just watch the thread for whatever ROM you decide to use and run manual updates as they come out... You can also use CWM from the playstore to automate the process, but many will argue that EXT4 is far superior.
