[Q] Unable to update PRL - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Please help, I am stuck at 60678. Most times when i try to update the PRL from the phone it fails, occasionally it says that it succeeds, but when I reboot, it is still at 60678. I have contacted sprint twice now, and each time they try to reset and reactivate without success. They always end the call by saying they will force an update which should occur within the hour...it never does. Is there a process to manually update to 60680? I am rooted.

I've seen this happen a lot, and it happened to me. If it won't update, your phone isn't properly activated in Sprint's network. Sprint doesn't know how to fix it, either. They have to just give you a new phone.

yeah just don't let them tell you it's normal. they were like "oh yeah it says failed if there isn't an update".
Idiots.

So what's the benefit of 60680 vs the previous prl? I'd hate to take a phone back because of something like a prl update issue. I know how to manually upload prl files using software on PC, so I don't see it as a big deal.

not being able to update prl/profile is a big issue, you really should take it back

OTA 2.3.5 Question

I have went back to stock on the 22nd of this month. I still have not got the ota yet. Is that normal? should I wait a few more days?

The OTA will roll out to all devices over a few weeks - you can't just "check in" and get it. It's flagged by IMEI/ESN. Once you're flagged a subsequent check in will result in OTA notification.

Thanks guys!
I noticed the original poster is on T-Mobile. Keep in mind that so far, the 2.3.5 update is only for the Nexus S 4G on Sprint. No announcement official or unofficial has been made regarding a 2.3.5 update for any other Nexus S variant other than the 4G one for Sprint.
i hope they dont start fragmenting their OS further...even at the nexus s flagship level...that would suck.

Has anyone tested updating OTA with a rooted phone on 2.3.4? I assume this will set the phone back to stock but wanted to make sure it wouldn't brick it...

it was a update primarily for the Nexus S 4G. its not fragmentation.
if you REALLY want 2.3.5 then just download a ROM with it.

It won't brick anything. At worst it will change the permissions on the su binary and you'll have to flash it through recovery again or format /system (the incremental updates don't really do that though) to extract the new system packages.

Unfortunately it looks like it's bricked my phone... I got the triangle exclamation point and it wont go anywhere...
*EDIT*
After taking out my battery and rebooting it looks to have gone back to 2.3.4 pre update. Yay

thats not what a BRICK IS! if your screen shows something. ITS NOT BRICKED. stop using the wrong term, its fixable.
root and get clockwork if it isnt there anymore, wipe and flash a ROM.
Quick question...not ssure if answered already but after the update, are there supposed be more signal bars showing? I have read in other forums that some who updated saw more signal bars (not necessarily more signal strength but more bars as opposed to the 4 that we have pre update).
Thanks aand how has tthe experience been with the update? I used the recovery method rather than wait for sprint to push it to us and honestly, I have noticed very little difference in coverage

New Verizon PRL

Hey all, can anyone upload or direct me to the new 52501 Verizon PRL? Looked on the net but seems no one has uploaded it yet that I can find. Running on a ROM where I need to update PRL manually. Thanks

If you are talking about when you dial *228 and press option 2 to up date your phones roaming capabilities then:
due to the 4g - sim card, its not possible to update it manually, plus there really should be no need to update it because it does this automatically. Sorry bud.
No I need someone to use CDMA Workshop copy the new 52501 prl off the phone and upload it. I can't use the *228. So I need someone to upload

You are asking the wrong forum. LTE PRLs are different.

LTE phones don't update the PRL via a normal method. They automatically update the PRL from the network like any other GSM phone. Turn it on, and it should grab the latest PRL for you automatically.

Did not know that, but good to know!
I was told that to update the PRL:
1) Turn the phone off
2) Pull the battery
3) Pull the SIM/LTE card
4) Wait 1 min
5) Put SIM/LTE card back in
6) Put battery back in
7) Turn phone on
8) Enjoy PRL

[Q] No signal after the T-Mobile Update

So this morning I got the software update to 1.84.531.2, but now, no matter what I do, the phone has no signal at all times. Did anyone else have this issue?
Have you tried manually choosing the network carrier?

check your apn settings or get a new sim from a store, if possible
Botched radio flash? You could always try flashing it manually if you're rooted.

Is there any way I could do this without root/custom recovery? I want to keep it stock since I'm going to the store today to talk to them about my bill, so I MAY be lucky to get it exchanged if anything.
Not without being rooted
I would take it to store and get new one
backup what you can to pc

[HELP] 4G LTE no longer working.

My phone no longer goes to 4g. if I flash back to the stock rom, then it works.
I've tried slimkat, slimbean, andybonestock, and cyanogenmod. On any custom rom 4g no longer works, only 3g.
Also I am on the latest firmware/radio/modem
My Phone is set to CDMA+LTE/EVDO, and whats weird... is that if I set the subscription type to NV then I GET LTE... but sms and calls do not work, only data.. Switch back to SIM then everything works but only 3g..
This happened to me. You'll need to flash the root66 build with odin. There's a set of instructions somewhere. I would link it but I'm on my tablet. Google it and let me know if you need help.
Edit: found it for you. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35600769#post35600769
Follow all those "fixing data instructions" and let me know how it works out for ya

I tried out my gf's SIM card while she was over. I had 4g again and on her phone she was only getting 3g like i was.
Went to verizon and got a new one, now it works!!
I do want to know what caused my card to go bad though... Worked when i first got my phone.

Do you have a hard case on your phone? Before I put one on I walked into a table corner and busted my sd card. Not a stretch to imagine it happening to a sim card. The back on this phone is way to flimsy.
Ive never dropped it and ive had an otterbox case on it since i got it.

stuck in 1.12.605.11

People I am stuck in this firmware since i got the phone.. I heard the others have had 2 updates the 1.54 and the 1.55..
Really need help
You should really let us know more about your situation. That post does next to nothing for troubleshooting. We need to know mods, changes, what you've done, etc. Also what you've tried. Tell us everything.

If you are using it in another country on a different carrier you will have to download it manually and put the update in a spot where you can find and apply it from there using the stock recovery.

Hold all 3 buttons in different ways. Lol. Hard to explain, but start mashing and holding your physical buttons. I found holding both volumes then tapping power a few times worked the quickest.

I tried it but the recovery is saying that the operation is invalid
Make sure you have read/write/execute access to the location and the file you are trying to use.

Me too
I am also stuck in 1.12.605.11 on a new M8 I got less than a week ago. I am on Verizon in the US. Checking for updates does the same thing has the OP. It says its checking then stops with no further messages. I am using the Weak Sauce root with S-On. Firewater didn't work when I tried it so makes me wonder if there are other issues with my phone.

Yours is a different situation, your rooted the OP isn't. You might have better luck starting your own thread on the issue.

WeakSauce is a temp root solution meaning I can turn it off and I wont be rooted anymore. I probably should've mentioned that I tried that too. I may be on a different network than the OP but a lot of other people elsewhere are having the problem so it seems to be network independent.
(MOD EDIT)
Flaming/Trolling
Flaming and Trolling are not allowed on XDA.
