Coming from a blackberry curve, i need help to take full advantage of this phone. I am 4 days in my 14 days buyers remorse and i want to make sure this is a keeper. Here is the list of questions i need help with.
1- i heard volume+ is a good app to boost the speaker for phone calls. I cannot find it in the market. Can someone help me find it and choose the right settings for the speakers?
2-Can i use the blueant Q2 headset for voice command? I want to buy it but need some feedbacks.
3-i need help with tips on how to use the features of the camera and video camera. I am still trying but i want to hear from people about their experience with the camera
4- can i use skype on this phone for video conference?
5-last, is there an app for auto sleep and auto wake just like the blackberry? i can schedule my blackberry to turn off at midnite and turn back on a 6am during the week and turn off at midnite and turn back on at 9 on the weekend.
Thank you all for your tips.

BlueAnt Q2 works with this phone. The Voice Command does not. I believe sense does not support it. I know it worked on G2x but the G2x has all sort of BT issues that i don't think LG will ever fix. Anyway i believe there is a voice command app probably on the market that will work.
PS: i haven't tried the android app that you can download for the Q1/Q2..... One other thing. The Q2 does STORE all the phone contacts unlike the Jawbone Era incase you are trying to decide which one to get.
Skype doesn't currently support video calls on the Sensation yet, there are only a small handful of phones that skype has brought the support for this feature. If you hang in there though the update should be with us at some point. There are other alternatives though that do allow video calls.
You can get a hacked version of Skype. Press menu in the camera app to learn more and I don't have input for the rest of your questions. Hacked Skype should be in these forums somewhere.

1 - search in the android apps section of the forums
2 - pretty sure you can
3 - There's a camera thread in "Sensation General"
4 - http://www.xda-developers.com/android/skype-2-available-for-other-devices/
5 - dunno
Coming from a blackberry curve 8320 myself. I can tell you there's a definite learning curve. Any shortcomings hopefully will be be fixed with custom ROM. Voice commands for voice dialing works for me with market App. Overall I am very happy with this device!

I can confirm that the Blueant Q2 voice commands do not work on Sensation. It says not supported when you try to activate by pressing the button on Q2. Shame that the top of the line device thats out on the market doesnt support it.
5-last, is there an app for auto sleep and auto wake just like the blackberry? i can schedule my blackberry to turn off at midnight and turn back on a 6am during the week and turn off at midnight and turn back on at 9 on the weekend.
Are you wanting to do this to save battery/data?
If so, I use a powerful app called Tasker.
At midnight, Tasker turns off auto-sync, disables wifi and data and the APN. At 6:30am it turns it all back on.
I get maybe 2% battery use over night now where i was getting up to 15% previously.
There might be easier ways to do this, but this works for me.
For question 5, an alternative to Tasker would be PhoneWeaver by SBSH. I think it's quite good, but there is still room for improvement. Another possibility that I personally don't like is LAMA. Yet another possibility is Locale. I haven't tried it yet, and I think it's gonna be quite expensive because a lot of functionality is in plug-ins that you have to buy... But it looks nice.

TiKL for Android is a Push to Talk app that uses Voip. Just found this today on the market and have been playing around with it with some friends. Has great potential! I cant post links yet, (if someone could help me out and post one) just do a search for TiKL in the market.
Great app love it has g great potential. Love waking my wife up in the mornings with it. Needs a contacts widget so all you have to so is click on their person to chirp them

Ok
someone please explain to me the usefulness of push to talk. I really never got it, and seriously want to understand how it is used and why it's different than calling someone? And I'm not being sarcastic. REALLY I AM NOT!
Is it just a "doesn't cost minutes" thing? Just a real world scenario where you would use this instead of calling would be great.
We run UPS and Generator tests at my job and there are like 5 of us that need to stay in constant contact with each other while the tests are going on. Some of us are on the first floor of the building, some are on the fourth floor and its way easier to just push to talk rather than dialing every time.

two things it needs
1. widget
2. some type of contact list instead of the pop down menu
thanks OP!!!!!!!!!
any way for me and my buddy to communicate with push to talk? he is on WM and IM on android.
Not at the moment. TiKL is only for android.
great app but kills my battery!
this is a nice app, and i dont want to scare anyone away from it but one time a friend of mine was still transmitting to me long after he stopped pressing the button and had put his phone down with the screen off. He wasent able to stop transmitting until after using a task kill

Havn't had that problem yet. It is still in beta remember.
The Tango devs updated their the app and now video calls work. The audio issue has been fixed for the Droid Charge. Used it to make a call to an iphone friend and it worked flawlessly. Just thought I would spread the word.
Thanks for the heads-up.
I actually downloaded the tango app two days ago and uninstalled it and now i can't find it on the market.
Anyone else unable to find it? Has the icon changed?
Thanks,

I'll have to check this out.... it's funny, I bought a phone with a front-facing camera and never bothered using it, I guess I'll try this app out and see what the quality is like.
Few questions(dumb as they may be )
1: Can I call people who are on Skype with this app? I'm assuming I would have to wait for Skype to release a version for the Charge.
2: Does this app call other people with the app or does it just do a regular call..?
thanks :]
I tested it last night with the gf, pretty neat. It wouldn't connect at 3g (my area gets spotty between 3g/4g) but connected just fine over WiFi. From my experience, using a set of headphones is essentially mandatory for AT LEAST one party, if not both. With no headphones there was a significant amount of feedback on both ends, to the point where conversation was impossible. Perhaps this is just my experience though.
Finally, audio didnt work for the longest time
Sweet! Hopefully this will work between my charge and my wife's moto droid while she's out of town

1. No from what I have seen it looks as if the other party needs Tango as well. There is a contacts list from within and it automatically had some contacts in my list that already had Tango.
2. I think i answered #2 with #1.
Also I used it with speaker on and had no feedback . It was absolutely flawless that one time I used it. I was on 4G. It sucked battery hard though.
I purchased the jawbone era yesterday to use specifically with Vlingo. I get home and spend all night trying and re-trying to click the link onTHEIR WEBSITE to download for Android, only to find the link corrupted. Or, more like broken. I called customer service and to my surprise got an answer that for the time being Vlingo has decided to stop making their service available for Android. They said that hopefully they'll get the software issues resolved soon but there's no e t a.
I can't help but think that has something to do with their announcement to be exclusively preloaded on Sprint phones beginning with the galaxy s 2.
does anyone on here have the ability to post their version of Vlingo up for download for people like me?
many thanks,

Thanks a ton y'all!!!
Parmijo11 and others,
Really, thanks so much for your time and sharing / links etc.
What a delight to get such helpful answers on a forum, so quickly! XDA Dev really is the best group of tech heads out there. Pros!!
thanks a million. I was able to download with no problem from Amazon. NOW the moment(s) of truth will be to see if it works, how many glitches my phone actually causes, and most importantly, if I can get my Bluetooth to work instead of the phone's mic. If I have to use the phone's mic (or a wired headset) then Google Search voice commands work near flawlessly for me already. Though it is nice to have the InCar feature to read, safely, incoming texts.
THANK YOU!!!!
help! Vlingo can't "hear" me
works great.... except for one "tiny" issue (probably why vlingo pulled out for my device):
No voice commands! Vlingo isn't able to detect my voice for any features whatsoever. Not through the phone mic or a wired head set. I just get a red box with an "X" in it when I'm supposed to be speaking. And the large box that would read "Done" is grayed out and not responsive to touch.
Ideas?
How do I select Vlingo in my voice input settings?
Tried Settings - Voice Input and Output Setting...
No mention of choosing Google, Vlingo, or any other option.
And yet another....
Well, it appears Vlingo had good reason to hold off on the Sensation for the time being. GLITCHY! After 3 hard resets (one by taking battery out for a minute) I got the voice commands to work perfect. They when saying "send" for a test text msg, it said "Your message is sent", and the screen went to an animated "sending" message.... and stayed there.... locked there.
I hit home, then re clicked on Vlingo icon, reopened Vlingo, pressed InCar to go back in for another test... InCar is locked. Won't even go in at all.
I guess I'll just get what use I can out of it, and maybe they'll put out a new updated version for my phone that works flawlessly.
Thanks for your help people.
Cheers,
VS
I have version 3.0.4 of vlingo which also has vlingo in car, works perfect. I know that in order for it to work good you need to have the voice dialer installed.... on the sensation anyway. What version does everybody have? If I knew how to post apk's I would post it.

Here is Voice Dialer.
If you have Vlingo 3.04 could you attach that. Obviously as long as its a free version
You do this by choosing "Reply" after this post then switching to "advanced" in the resulting "Reply to Thread" box and then "Manage Attachments" and upload the file as a zip
Here in the UK we don`t have access to Amazon App Store
Yes, the version I have is free.... I'm on the mobile site and tried attaching the aol but had trouble.... Maybe you could pm me with your email addy and I can send it to you that way and you could post it here? Otherwise I will try it when I get home tonight and go on my laptop.

You're very welcome Dave! Thanks for posting the apk, I was having a hard time doing it from the mobile site. Hope this helps y'all!
Dirtyhamster / Dave, THANKS. Works flawlessly!!
didn't understand how to install a DPK... duh, figured it out. DL it on the phone, clicked, installed. Works completely perfectly!
What's interesting is that the version available as of today on Amazon is not even similar in many ways to this one. The layout is different, and the Amazon one crashed my phone completely. Uninstalled it.
Put yours on and in under a minute I was flawlessly voice controlling my phone 100% hands free. You guys are the best! I wish I could buy you a drink for real!
I needed this to work! I was distraught after investing in the Sensation and planning on being able to use Vlingo in the car for hands free.
Last test is to try it with the bluetooth headset. I JUST returned the Jawbone ERA thinking it was a hopeless cause. Thinking about saving a bunch of money and just getting the Blueant Q2 instead though. They both use Vlingo, so should work well.
Opinions?
Yaaaay Vicstarman! So happy it works for you!
I'm not familiar with the blueant q2 but I have the blueant s3 and I love it! It's the speaker system that clips on to the visor of the car....
I just wanted to mention this- To wake up vlingo in car you say out loud "hey, vlingo" and then it'll speak "what to you want to do"? ( in settings you can add your name and it'll say "what do you want to do vicstarman" ) She is very particular about the way you say "hey vlingo".... Took me a few tries to wake her up..... Maybe it's just my "Bahston" accent that she doesn't like

IMO I prefer Jawbone because of the noise assasin tech. BUT I also use my blueant S4 whenever I am in my truck. It's always on and that battery lasts about 2 weeks before I need to charge. Otherwise I use the era and have no problems with static or range as some are having.
I got my Jawbone Era for 80bux open box new. I know the q2 is almost half that but I do not like the earloop. Earloops don't work well with my glasses.
But I heard some like the blueant just as much as the jawbone. I also prefer the jawbone because of the good mytalk programs that can be installed.
nice one guys glad everything is working OK. Thanks go to Andrea for offering to share her version of the software.
Its working well for me too and doing everything I need

I am trying to find out if the new OS on this has better voice dial support than the older versions of Android.
Currently I am using a WP7 phone and I am stuck with this phone because of the way the voice dial feature works with a Bluetooth headset.
With WP7 I can do everything from the headset and it reads back the number or contact name before it dials. It can also reply to txt via voice all without me touching the phone.
Is that a possible with this phone/OS?
How about with the ICS update for this phone?
Thanks for any input on this.
I can tell you that you will probably not be happy with android voice commands coming from wp7. It's gotten a little better with ics but still nowhere near as polished and user friendly as wp7. That's the one thing I miss from my Focus. I could be driving down the freeway and carry on a complete conversation via text message without ever reading anything or fiddling with my phone. The new s-voice leak from Samsung is nice, but still no comparison. If this is a deal breaker for you I'd stick with wp7 for now.

Thanks for the reply, it is really disappointing that Android still has not gotten it's BT headset voice dial support up to the level of being truely useful. I hope it is not a matter of patents on technology that is preventing it from doing so and one day (soon I hope) it will.
Thanks again.
So I have that urge to buy something new and I've stumbled across the sony SW2 in my looking around and I was wondering if this would be worth it to buy? Those of you who have had one for a while, do you think I should get one?
I think it all depends on its use per the individual, it is very handy for me when I'm at work and in a meeting I can see who's calling and read messages etc and also when I'm on my motorbike also saves me having to pull out my phone to see whoa calling messages etc. I would say though if you have a Samsung phone then probably have a look at the gear

If you can get it for less than $150, that's a decent price... However, there's LG's and Moto's watches coming out this summer if you can wait a few months - but those are rumored to be around $250.

If you need a device to remote control your smartphone, then yes you should get it. If you are happy just taking your phone out of your pocket and using it, then you dont need the Sony Smartwatch 2. It is not an indepedent device. It can do almost nothing by itself, it is 99% dependent on your phone.
The best way to describe it is that it is a second screen to your smartphone. To be able to use it you must have your smartphone on you, at all times. It not autonomous working at all.
Hi all,
can this Sony SW2 keep the time by itself if I go running to the park and leave my phone at home? Just keep the time.
I know it would be more useful to take the phone in my pocket and probably try to have an Endomondo's Sports Tracker widget on the smartwatch.. does anyone knows about a good sports tracking app like Endomondo's ?
Thanks.
Sure, why not. It's only money.
I have had mine for 8 months and love it. I had not worn a watch in perhaps 20 years. (I'm a reformed pocket watch user.) If you like to know who is emailing and testing when it happens, covertly, it is great. There are other things it is great at too, but those are the #1 use. I like the color screen v.s. monochrome screens, but battery life suffers. Price is reasonable, relatively speaking, but if you are an Android user and have a little more $$, I'd wait until summer to see what the new Google based watches bring. They appear to be a step up. The only thing I'd wish for is voice transcription to reply to email or text and I believe that's coming in the Google OS watches.

Yes it can. And your SW2 comes with Runtastic, which is pretty okay for me.
Sw1 can keep time only till it has battery or has not been switched off. If you switch it off or battery finishes, you need to connect it again with your phone to get time.

Not on your Nexus it doesnt..... it doesnt have an answer call button, though theres a fix if you are rooted.
Also it has no speaker or mic so youd need a bt headset. Which can already be used to answer calls.

LOL It's a fair question, I joined this forum when I have a Qtek 2200 (made by HTC and also known under the brands XDA, O2), and after a Qtek 2020i, and used this forum just to get some informations. When this devices become obsolete I bought a Samsung Galaxy S5830 but I didn't like the Froyo GUI so I change to iOS devices that aren't supported here. But since a few months ago I become tired of it, always the same and without big changes, and planned to switch again to android that had a big improvement since froyo and its know more appealing to use.
One of the thing that I found out immediately was the different ROM's available to install, and I have been playing with them in my devices.
So it's natural that now I had reasons to post, to clear my doughts.
I don't use to write just to make number, I hope that you'll be clear.

I see in the call extension app description that "answer call" is for Xperia Only. I have a rooted HTC One M8, but I did not move the app to the system partition (I doubled checked just to be sure); however, I can answer calls with my Sony Smartwatch 2. Not sure if it is because I am rooted or not, but I wanted to pass along my experience with my phone and the call extension app in question.
Rob
I've found that the lack of a 'Call Accept' button is not a major deal breaker for the Call Extension program. Wired or BT headsets have the action button, so the SW2 is still good. PLUS, with the recent upgrades to the core program, it's perfect to setup for a 'idling watch-face' that contains the pertinent information that I need.
Remember, the watch will allow you to tuck the phone back into the pocket or holster and leave it there. I myself enjoy starting an album as I leave the house to catch my bus for work, then just use the SmartMote Extension to change the song or tweak the volume on the sly.
Oh, and with the phone settings extension I found, I can cut the phone's Wi-Fi when I leave a well, so it doesn't draw extra power looking for a connection - without going fully into the watch apps, because it's latext update puts a shortcut directly into the watch-face itself!
Yeah, I'd recommend getting this watch, if you need a new watch. Once you have it, you find reasons to have it.... (Not the least, because it reduces the need to turn on the phone every five minutes to check it.)
