I see its in the settings but I'm wondering if our device is capable or not. Right now, I'm in the middle of choosing this or the sensation and its a really tough call. I love both and I'm happy dumping my g2x.

Looks like I got my answer. I decided to go through my old cables and found some for my Zune HD. Low and behold, this was the result. Ha

Yup, we were supposed to get MHL but I guess it was dropped prior to release. Pretty sure the phone also supports wireless display.

Yes, it is referred to Screen Share on the phone. That's what I read online anyway, I haven't actually received my device yet.

I'm not entirely sure, from what I've read it makes the phone into a media server, so I would assume it would theoretically provide better clarity as it would be the television decoding the media and not the phone.

Apparently brand does matter. The splitters I've tried all output fuzzy. I can make out images of the desktop/apps in the waves of fuzz.
Strange that I cannot find a bit of information anywhere on this topic, much less which accessories to buy for tv out.

Using this type of cables is completely new to me. Would you explain four pole? All I can say for certain is that they're just an old Zune HD set of cables I had laying around. Ironically, they never worked for it and got lost after it was stolen. I don't really find them that useful though as it's clearly not anything near HDMI output quality. I still find it strange that this "feature" hasn't been even mentioned.
Sent from my myTouch_4G_Slide using XDA Premium App
Connected mine to the TV using one of these too. The strange thing is that instead of outputting the signal through the yellow colored jack it comes through the red audio one.
Picture looks decent considering it's one rca connector. It looks like either 720x480 or 640x480 to me but, I can't tell for sure. I know my PS2 outputs 512x448 for most games so I get black bars on all four sides however, with this phone I only see them on the right and left which makes me think it's 640x480 but, since it's interlaced it's hard for me to be sure which also makes me wonder if the image is down-sampled or something as it appears to look pretty smoothed. Picture isn't great but, I've seen much worse. Screen output rotates with the phone which is nice. T-mobile TV works on a few channels but not many. Most everything else works ok.
When using screen-share (DLNA) I can't get the PS3 to find the phone and, I can't get the phone to find the PS3. I'm hoping an update will fix it.
The Twonky dlna app works though its a little buggy
I was on the fence about this particular phone, but this thread just sold it.
Thanks, I was content with my Nook Color until the right phone came along, and i've been watching everything that's been coming out.
Given the performance, features, and capabilities of this phone, and now THIS...
I'll be picking it up within the next few days or so, and be on the lookout for cables to test this out with.
Posted to thank the OP and tag the thread so I can get back to it more quickly when I have something to contribute. My first entry to the smart phone ballgame, this is gonna be fun.
ETA: picked one up yesterday. I like it, i'm going to find a video cable for it today.
I'm wondering if the reason they didn't advertise this feature is because the backing software or even hardware wasn't bug free. I have a 3.5mm plug with 4 connectors but can't get video on any of the rca plugs at the tv. I can see that video is being outputted but only a black and white, extremely distorted "picture" displays (nothing like the reports of it working here).
I ordered the zune cable from amazon, may report back if that works.
I used a four pole headphone type jack cable that came with my head unit for my car. The four poles are left audio, right audio, video and ground separated by black dividers.
I was able to get it to work. It's not great video, but it works good for a car audio/video output. I am able to use it along with Google navigation as a pseudo gps unit.

Samsung have declared that galaxy S does have a TV-OUT but i still haven't seen the TV-OUT port yet also i still haven't read that it comes with a TV-OUT cable so does anybody know if it really has a TV-OUT and how it exactly work ?
Look it in the manual, the Galaxy S does have TV Out through the 3.5mm audio jack. My old Nokia N95 also had this, although never used it. The downside is that just ouputs standard definition, so no 720p
i interested to know as was planning to use that to output to the car 2din player and display the gps on there. so far i tried the demo, there is a TV out setting that lets you choose NTSC and PAL. i think the cable should be the same as the Omina 2. anyone tired it out can let us know?
thanks.

I know parents find it extremely difficult to cope in any situation with their child, that's why we must ensure they too are treated as patients.
I ordered the same one from amazon for £2, free postage and packaging. Works pretty decent, sounds a bit low, and I haven't managed to get rid of the borders, but I haven't messed around with overscan on the tv, but it should fix it.

Providing one end is a 3.5mm Jack and the other is the normal Red/White/Yellow then there shouldn't be any difference.
It's just a standard Audio/Video cable... the compatibility lies with the phone not with the cable.
My one is marked Nokia but it works on the SGS.
Thats not correct, I bought some standard HAMA av cable and its not working, it just shows some crippled screen with lines with humming sound in the backgroud.
Has anyone purchased the official dock for this phone? I was wondering if it is worth $49.99 from T-mobile.
I have. It's extremely great quality. You're paying for one of the sturdiest docks ever.
It's definitely expensive, but it's definitely high end quality.

I bought one when I bought my phone about 2 weeks ago, but returned it a couple days later. Sure, it's a sturdy, but it doesn't have any dock functionality. To me, it's a glorified plug. It doesn't trigger anything on your phone that plugging in a charger doesn't.
Totally not worth the $50 to me. I ended up making my own "dock" with an old credit card, cardboard, and duct tape.

That picture was taken last week. It has more duct tape to smooth out the edges and make it "prettier" and more sturdy. I think found the "make a credit card a phone dock" on Lifehacker or something. It worked great for landscape, but putting the phone in the dock in portrait made it tip over, so the cardboard was added for stability.

The MT3GS dock had a line out port, and you could stream to it via bluetooth. I've no idea if this dock has it or not, as I can't find any documentation on it anywhere.
For 25 bucks, I'll take a shot and see what it's got. It was, after all, a 50 dollar accessory originally, so maybe it's got the BT after all.

Yeah I got it from another site for the same price, defiantly the same dock and now worth the price. 50$ was way too much to pay. It will either dock to USB or dock to charge, one or the other. It has no speakers for playback. Its basically a vanilla dock.

MHL is Connection the One S to TV over HDMI?
As I posted above, yes our phones will work with a MHL adapter and the one that I got is pretty damn cheap but it does exactly what you expect of it, don't go and waste £70+ on one when you can get a MHL adapter for about £5, which does exactly the same thing essentially. If you looked at my above post with a link to another website and through the the thread that KT linked, you will have seen my mini review of the MHL adapter that I got along with a video demonstrating it :
http://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1071937-htc-one-s/page__st__15__p__594848957#entry594848957
MHL adapter arrived yesterday, £7.28 including delivery (£4.58 just for the adapter), which isn't badly priced
Has gone up a tiny bit since I purchased it though:
http://www.expansys.com/expansys-mhl-microusb-to-hdmi-adapter-black-221378/
Couple of photos below, as you can see, we have a HDMI port (I just used my Xbox 360 HDMI cable and it worked fine) and the micro USB port (just use the USB cable that comes with the S) for charging the device at the same time as when you're streaming to the TV at 1080P it can drain the battery pretty quickly especially when watching a 1080P HD film or playing a few games. You can either plug the USB into a socket near by or into one of the TV's USB ports (if available) to charge the mobile. The adapter is very tiny and obviously very light weighted, you could easily carry it around with you in your pocket.

When connected to the TV (Panasonic TX-P42G20B) the video mode of the TV switches to "1080P, 24Hz and 16.9 aspect ratio". I haven't looked at any of the settings on my TV to see if I can increase the refresh rate yet but everything seemed very smooth either way, 1080P films played flawlessly using BS player lite and looked perfect, the games also worked great but looked very jaggy as they are stretched to 1080P, this is down to the apps.
Here is the info. for the film trailers that were played:
And lastly a quick video demonstrating this. Sorry for the quality and jerkiness of this video, it was recorded using a desire on stock 2.2, the UI and actions etc. are smoother than what it looks in the video.
Yes I know my gaming skills are atrocious particularly for Goldeneye It isn't very easy using the on screen controls!
One thing, which should be noted is that the sound is very low! (hence why you can barely hear the audio of the films and games in the video) When watching standard TV, we have the volume bar at about 3/10, where as with the mobile connected and playing content, I had to turn the volume up to about 6/10 just to be able to hear it clearly. Not sure why this is and I don't know if a different, more expensive MHL adapter would be better for sound level......
To sum up; I can't complain about the adapter at all given the price, does what you expect of it and the only downside (which might not even be due to the adapter) is that the volume is very low and has to be turned up a fair bit to compensate for this.

You actually don't have to connect the device to the media link adapter. The purpose of the adapter is to make your tv a dlna device. Kind of like the ps3. The difference is the ps3 and your phone have to be on the same network. With the media link adapter, as long as you have an HTC device capable of doing so, you can wirelessly stream your files through the device to tv. Come on, you didn't really think they would charge $130 for a device that still required you to have a cable running to the tv basically.

to be clear:
there is the MHL micro USB Port. You plug a MHL adapter to your phones USB input.
You have to plugin your powersupply into the MHL adapter. Now you have your phone mirrored to your TV.
the Media Link / HD:
The Media Link (H100) and the Media Link HD (H200) are somekind of WLAN DLNA adapters for your TV. You configure your WLAN settings by using a PC or Mac. (you can also use a instant sync to your phone by pressing the botton on the device)
Now you can make a 3 finger-flic on your device and the screen is mirrored to your TV. I dont know if you can also do this with the older version (H100) but if you are starting a movie or diashow you can switch to Homescreen on your device and use is as usual while streaming media to your TV.
The main difference between H100 and H200 is that the H100 supports 720p and the H200 is good for 1080p. Both devices need a powersupply. Because of its also a DLAN device you can stream media from your PC or Mac to your TV.
i'm searching for an alternative device to the H200 but i dont think there is none which is capable of all the features the H200 brings with.

$40 + shipping is really too much for me. So I decided to take the plunge and get one of the Deconn adapters that have been floating around on ebay. Interestingly enough, the functionality is just as good as the OEM Analogix adapters.

I purchased my unit from kangyi2011 (link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=261249574227) for $18, including shipping. The only colour available was white—which looks surprisingly good in contrast to my pitch black Nexus 4 and TV—as if it is highlighted in a dark sea of modern electronics. You can clearly see the Slimport branding on the adapter even though it is not OEM.
UPDATE: A quick ebay search showed me that the adapter is now available in black, and has an additional micro usb cable for charging, which was not included with my unit.
The build quality of the adapter is quite good, as all of the parts seem to be pieced together securely. The ports are solid and the micro usb cable plugs in easily and securely to my phone.
In addition to the HDMI port, there is a micro usb port on the other side of the adapter to allow for charging during use. This is a very important feature as I noticed that my Nexus' battery drained very quickly while mirroring, even at minimum brightness.

As I mentioned earlier, the adapter works perfectly, mirroring my Nexus 4's screen at native 1080p. It is fully compatible with Android 4.3 and its updates; i.e. screen does not force into landscape now. I have not included any pictures of the adapter during use because it has the same functionality as the Analogix adapter.
The only gripe I have about the product is that the phone connection cable (which cannot be removed) is rather short. This means that you must keep your phone close to the adapter during use. This may make it difficult to play games, as the adapter can get in the way. Mirroring media is not a problem as you do not need to be touching the phone.
PROS:
- Solid construction
- Full functionality in comparison to OEM adapters
- Cheap price
CONS:
- Relatively long shipping wait
- Connection cable is a bit short

The nexus 4 screen ain't 1080p... so I am having a tough time believing it is being output at that rez. Are you sure it's native?
How long is the cable?

Yeah, my TV registers the output res as 1920x1080. How? Slimport magic.
The cable is about 5 inches

Thank you very much!
WOW, I was looking for this! It's hard to say if these chinese products have really good quality, especially when we're talking about a new technology.
I think I'll get one, since shipping costs to Brazil make the OEM one even more expensive!
I just want to ask you if you noticed some problem with it's frame rate, cause some hdmi and vga chinese cables, sometimes, even having the expected resolution, show problems with that. Have you tried some games just to see how does it go?
Thank you very very much, just for writing this complete review you helped me a lot! Cheeeers from BR!
Score, that's worth $18 any day. Thanks!

No problem, glad you like it!
No frame rate issues most of the time, but there are some microstutters (barely noticeable) during 1080p playback of certain movie files (wmv, mkv). This is to be expected though.

I found that sometimes I have to plug in twice (so plug, unplug, and replug) on my nexus 4 in order for my tv to detect the signal. I don't get any problems after that though.

How does it work for you?
Down to 11.90$ on deal extreme
As I search for an alternate point to actually solder to this is the best I've got so far.
In order to completed this you must have a moderate amount of soldering experience and a damn steady hand.
EASY: First solder to the easy spot which is 3-4volts when unit is off.
Use a strand of copper from a speaker wire since the gauge is thin enough you should be able to attach it rather easily

HARD: Next what you want to do is hold the Kindle on an angle where you can access the power button and touch the other end of the copper wire to the following point. If the unit doesn't automatically turn on you may have to manually power it on carefully while touching the point.
HARDER: Solder to the point and run a switch in line for a fastboot/unbrick mod. Maybe later...
Great tut, however it seems there is much more work than to just make a fastboot cable.

I didn't want to drop 9 bucks on eBay and after like 5 USB cable disassemblies I just said screw it and whooped out the iPod Pryer and multimeter

I have another demo unit. I'll check it out for you. But I'm pretty sure the RX TX pads shown in the picture below are what your looking for.. As for VCC you can use the 3-4v wire shown in picture 1 and ground obviously the black wire where the battery connects a few wires over from the red one.
Also I'm going to do a tutorial on how to flip a demo unit into a full blown unit/cm10 soon since that was what I was doing/did to this unit. I'll be using your files and another users files do you have any objections?

Its not fun until you break it open to see how it works and make it better hardware wise. I can easily doing an inductive charging mod to this. Actually going to very soon since I'm selling my Sero 7 and keeping this smaller tablet.

There used to be a person here who had the signature "if it ain't broke, fix it"
Seems fitting for the two mods

I'm a hardcore hardware modder. I love tearing stuff apart. If you look in my sig the inductive charger thats in the Sero 7 after it sells on ebay its coming out and going in the Kindle HD
why not just make a option in the roms?
It's easy enough to do from terminal, this is more of the oh crap I bricked it instance, I do agree, this mod is harsh, butttttt if you were wanting to crack it open anyway.....

This is mainly for modifying the demo units sold on eBay for 1/2 the cost of normal KFires. I got a demo unit off ebay for 80 shipped and flipped it for $150 fully modded with android. I then picked up another demo unit for 70 shipped and am using it for my wife. Never spent a dime on a fastboot cable which is needed for a demo flip.

err, why wouldn't you just unplug the battery?
30 awg kynar wirerap wire and copious application of kapton tape barriers is the way to bridge traces, imo.
I wonder if there's a place on the Vcc rail on the output side to pull power from. it'd be better because the current way is skipping the power filtering/protection circuits for the battery and dumping straight pack potential into sensitive chip leads.
also, i'm guessing TX/RX is the uart?
Has this been tested on a bricked model? or was it only used on demo units?
Would like to know, since I bricked my KFHD7 and am currently waiting on a Fastboot cable that wont be here till, the 27th.
Just want to make sure before I crack mine open, will report if it hasn't already been reported to work on a bricked unit

If you have the means to do this mod and have a spare cable. I'd go with modding a cable and recommend heat-shrink over tape(improper taping is poor strain relief). He did this mod because you can't exchange a demo unit and problems making a cable.
