I upgraded to Nodo a couple of weeks ago using the chevronwp7 method. I am trying to upgrade to Mango but can't get the unlock tool and sideloader to work anymore. Do I now have to downgrade from Nodo and start the process all over again? Any help would be appreciated.
PLEASE use the forum search...
A) Chevron unlocker doesn't work on NoDo. It's possible to pass the unlock through from pre-NoDo though. Otherwise, you can get a real dev account, or wait for the official almost-free unlock.
B) Why would you use the upgrade hack (often referred to as "Walshing" your phone, after the member of the Chevron team who developed it)? NoDo has been available in all markets for a few months now, and even the Rev 1.4 Focus is getting the official upgrade. That said, there's a tool available to fix the damage that Walshing your phone does.
C) It's possible to upgrade to Mango without dev unlock, though it's a little easier with it. Read the forum.
D) It's possible to unlock the phone in Mango if you had it unlocked in NoDo. However, unless you are *very* careful to follow teps (posted on this forum) correctly, most of the useful homebrew apps won't work anymore.
Again, please search the forum. You'd have saved everybody, yourself included, some time.

Dear developers,
I downloaded the latest windows phone 7 update, but it seems to relock my handset again ... I just needed the copy paste feature, so can I keep that and unlock my handset again?
Thank you soo much for your assistance.
Try doing a search before you post your question, as it has been answered one too many times.
You can't dev unlock your device once you have the NoDo update. You must unlock your device and apply the registry edit to keep it unlocked before you apply the update.
thanks for your kind support, but u didnt have to draw my attention to the searching part!
Tell us which handset you have...since LG handsets can be unlocked even after the update.
i have a lg optimus 7, so can i still do all the chevron thingy after the update?

Can you create one if you're not from USA nor have a USA credit card?
Are you kidding me.
ignore what people say about your sol, you just have to restore your device to the previous update using the zune software. i did it for my Samsung focus and got my device dev unlocked again. just make sure to do that registry hack to make your phone from relocking when you update it too NODO again.
I currently have a dev unlocked, unbranded, NODO updated, Samsung Focus!!!

here are instructions on how to unlock your phone after NoDo. I did this after upgrading my pristine LG Quantum to NoDo and then realized that I forgot to unlock first. You install the MFG app first by calling a number. Then you change your registry with MFG according to the post. Here are instructions on how to install the MFG app. Note that this works without Chevron. In fact, Chevron will not work after that (and would not even work after that before NoDo).
good luck
Alright. Here's the story.
I have a Windows 7 64bit computer
+ lg Quantum.
I recently upgraded to the official nodo upgrade
I tried to jailbreak (unlock) my phone and followed all the steps looking at various guides but i could never get pass the
"Uh oh" cannot commmunicate with your phone blah blah make sure that zune is up and ur phone is connected.
And no, im not resetting my phone
Is there a way to unlock after the nodo upgrade?
and if not is there a way to downgrade your wp7?
if you have nodo, than you can not unlock the device.
must make it before..
jap thats right...

Neither of the two posters above me is correct.
To get an official unlock, you have to buy a Marketplace developer account from Microsoft. These aren't available in all parts of the world yet, but where they are, they are considered the "official" option for side-loading apps. This is available on all phones and all versions.
To un-officially unlock your device, use the built-in registry editor in the LG manufacturer/diagnostics app. http://wmpoweruser.com/debranding-tutorial-for-lg-phones-to-hurry-nodo-along-needs-to-dev-unlock/ has the instructions to do so. Developer-unlock is just a registry key; a little searching on this forum will revela which one (I forget offhand).
To roll back your device to pre-NoDO (which will allow ChevronWP7 to work), connect it the Zune software, and then go to Settings -> Device -> Update. There should be an option to restore to the backup which was made when installing NoDo. Note that this is not reversible; you'll lose everything you did since the upgrade. Also note that while restoring this backup will downgrade the phone, simply factory-restting it will not.
The only reason why I want to unlock my device is so that i can install homebrew applications. Sorry i am not bright in technical areas, what does DEBRANDING your phone do?
and will Chevron work after i downgraded my phone?
Unlocking on LG phones works via MFG even after NoDo
yep, Gooddaytodie is correct - almost . Use the MFG registry editor as described step by step in this guide. This still works AFTER NoDo update. I did not unlock or hack my phone before I received the NoDo update.
You do not need to roll back! You don't have to debrand your phone either. Debranding is a change from ATT-US to 000-88 or something other than your current provider and is required if you want to obtain NoDo "unofficially". This can be done in the registry as well. But there is no need for you to do this.
You also don't need the chevron unlocker (in fact it won't work after the registry hack - but you don't need it because it's unlocked already).
Follow the steps in the link and you will have an unlocked phone. I hope you did not unnecessarily roll back yet .
good luck. If you have questions about steps in that guide, send me a PM and I will be glad to help.
Hey, just something quick. I'm running teh Mango beta but i keep hearing about the pros of unlocking your phone. So I wanted to unlock. I recieved this phone without the NoDo update, since it downloaded that when I first used zune.
So can I just click return to factory settings on the phone and then use chevron? then go through all the effort of updating back to mango.
thanks
no u cant..

No ...its not that simple...
Sinse your phone has nodo and its not unlocked you cant use chevron to unlock.
You must first flash a pre-nodo rom (7004 or 7008) unlock with chevron and then update all the way up to mango
Roms for trophy can be found here
Title says it all. I have my pre-nodo back up but I don't have the original launch version of the OS. At first I didn't care that nodo re-locked it. My HTC surround is not even my main device anymore. Still, I figured it be cool to unlock it again before going Mango. If I am unable to do the chevron unlock from pre-nodo is their currently any other way to unlock the device w/o a student account or paying the $99 developer fee?
prenodo is the only other way... restore ur prenodo back then unlock it...
I rolled back to 7390 and am having trouble unlocking. Can it be unlocked from here? I'm getting:
please make sure it is connected using usb
please start zune application
Edit: just searched and read that I can. Is it possible to flash 7004 without a backup? This is for an HTC surround
yes if there is a rom available u can flash it...

I have a Samsung Focus that I am trying to update. I am trying to follow this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1101344
However, I don't understand this part:
Code:
4. Run Application Deployment, click on browse
--- for hTC phones, click on TouchXplorer.xap
--- for Omnia 7, click on WP7RootTools 0.5 alpha.xap
-- and click on open
Does my phone need to be unlocked to follow this? Should I do it with Chevron?

if you are not unlocked and upgrade to Mango you will have a hard time unlocking it within Mango (and won't be able to sideload). Unlock in pre-NoDo and then carry the unlock over to NoDo and Mango following the guide. yes, people have successfully carried their Chevron unlock over to NoDo and then Mango. You need to make sure that it cannot relock when you connect to Zune. The tools listed allow you to make the reg changes to do that.
i thought I was reading somewhere that it's not possible to unlock past 7004 or something like that, which was before NoDo? (using Chevron)

you are correct. I corrected my post. So you need to start with
A. NoDo Update Guide: How To Pass ChevronWP7 from OS 7004 to OS February 2011 update and 7392 NoDo
So let me try to understand that, if my phone is unlocked now and when I update to mango it might might not unlock anymore, regardless if I got a SIM code from htc? I am new into this so I'm trying to get into it lol.......
I have a question regarding the official Mango update for my HTC Trophy. I unlocked 7004 via Chevron, did some hacks for preventing it from being relocked (via this thread) and updated to 7392 (NoDo). Everything is OK, device is still unlocked.
What should I do for preventing my device being relocked during the ongoing official Mango update?
Is there already some solution, or will it be after the official Mango release will appear in Zune?

I think we are talking about two different kinds of unlocking. I am referring to unlocking the phone for sideloading homebrew apps. If you upgrade to Mango you might not be able to sideload homebew apps that allow you to customize your phone until the gurus come up with a solution for Mango. Then there is SIM unlock to be able to use a device with a different SIM. I think that is what you are referring to. That will not change for you if you upgrade to Mango.

If you follow Ansar's tutorial you will see that there are preventions you can take to stay unlocked. You basically finished part A of his tutorial and can continue to part B with prerequisites for Mango upgrade.
B. MangoB2 Update Guide: How To Pass ChevronWP7 from OS 7392 [NoDo] to OS 7403 and 7712
In your case 7712 will be 7720.68 once it is released.
When you have all prerequisits finished from Ansar's post you stop there and are ready for official Mango once it comes out.
Reports from people who were NoDo unlocked and proceeded to Mango are mixed. Some kept the unlock some didn't. If it doesn't stay unlocked you have to have the files ready on the device to be able to unlock it without going back to NoDo. This is what Ansar's post explains. For the HTC you will put a CustClear.provxml file in place that you can deploy to unlock it.
This post also explains how to keep it unlocked. You follow the guide to the point at which it does the actual Mango upgrade. That is where you stop and wait for the official one.
But even if your device is locked in Mango you can go back to a NoDo restore point you created before you went to Mango. All explained in the guides/tutorials above.

You think some of those who followed the Ansars guide or those who just upgraded from unlocked NoDo to Mango without any other hacks before update?
The second link is some other guide than Ansars, if I am right, I can choose which one to use?
Thanks for help!

Yip. That's d mfg menu, and I love it..

Today I have succesfuly registered my ISIC student card with validity until december this year into the Microsoft Developer Account.
Now I have Chevron unlocked NoDo WP7 (HTC Trophy) with some modifications to prevent it from relocking during sync etc. I would like to unlock it via official Developer Account I now have.
1) If am not wrong - I should HR my phone, it will go to NoDo locked and then I can use application "Windows Phone Developer Registration" which will unlock my device and it will stay unlocked also after Mango update?
2) Is it possible by developer unlocked device to modify registry entries? I need to add one entry, so I will have Mango in my native language after update.
3) After one year, will it automatically lock my device and I will need to perform new ISIC validation, which will be in that day already expired?
4) If it will expire, will it hard reset or block my phone or will it stay in way it is, but it will not only be possible to side load xap's?
Thanks for answers!
