[Q] MyTouch 4G Slide Root question (hboot 1.45.0013/bootloader unlocked/S-On)

Alright, so I got this phone a week ago. First off, I am loving it. Screw Apple.
Anyway, first thing I wanted to do was root it so I can debloat all of T-Mobile's poop applications they cram inside of it.
I've read places that HBOOT 1.45.0013 isn't rootable. I've read it IS rootable, but only with S-OFF on a previous HBOOT. And I've read that it is rootable, but you can't get S-OFF after root.
I've used HTC's unlock tool, which went successful because I flashed CWM through fastboot. I've tried HTC Supertool, MrRoot, and Revolutionary (which says it isn't compatible)
My question then is, which of the above statements is true? If it is rootable, I don't care about S-OFF too much. But I can't ever find a guide that tells me how to root it with this current HBOOT.

If you download the Superuser zip (just google superuser android or something), you can flash it in recovery to get root. Alternatively, download a ROM with root preloaded (DS-mod is essentially stock with root and a few other standard root things added in) and flash it.

What's the difference in flashing Superuser, and downloading it from the Market?

It won't install correctly if you do it while the system is on and live (through the market) you have to do it while the operating system is not running (through clockworkmod)
Afterwards, it's fine to update through the market, but the initial install will fail if done on a running version of Android.

..Huh, just flashed Superuser. Weird that it's that easy. All the other threads were like "omg HBOOT 1.45.0013 can't be rooted hnnnnnggg"
So, now onto ROMs, are there any ICS based ones you reccomend?

Btw I see tht your question has been answered but in Mr Root's next update will include a Rooter/Unrooter for the newest H-Boot (Without S-Off)

For a while it was so - you couldn't do anything with 1.45.0013, HTC broke the OTA so you couldn't unlock it.
In my quest for s-on to s-off (still ongoing) I found a leaked copy of the OTA as a signed HTC package so now we can actually unlock them, and people can work with them and they are now rootable.
Still stuck with s-on though, which is unfortunate - we're working on it and hopefully can crack it soon. Got some leads we're chasing down, each layer we unravel shows us another that has to be solved below it.
ICS? Dunno - i'm not interested in ICS yet, still trying to learn gingerbread through and through (i'm an android newbie) before moving up to ICS. That's on hold right now because of the s-on issue i'm working on. tbalden has been leading the charge on ICS and I would recommend looking into his works if that is your interest.

can you explain in detail how to flash it to rom?????

Using CWM to flash it, you will need the super user ZIP file. Find it somewhere (it's everywhere, no doubt) and put it on your SD card. Reboot the phone to recovery mode, and using CWM recovery, select "flash any zip from SD card" (I'd look up the exact wording, except that my phone has been running a solid 24 days without reboot and I really wanna see how long it goes). Navigate to where your super user ZIP file is, and select it. Follow prompts, et voila, root on reboot.
Assuming all works. If something didn't work, you messed up. Try again from step 1, make sure you have a zip file and not an APK file, make sure you select the correct "flash zip" option (there are two, one specifically for update.zip and another for whatever zip you choose).

ok this is my huge problem i have the same hboot with s-on
i have the full stock stupid t-mobile mt4gs AOS 2.3.4 software# 1.55.531.3 and i DONT have CWM or any of the extras in only thing i succeeded is getting the bootloader unlocked so what should i do?

Install clockworkmod then flash either superuser pr a ROM - if staying stocl with root, be a good time to do some spring cleaning on all the junk it comes with pre-installed.

Well,
What exactly did you do that returned this error (mainly because I don't remember if fastboot or adb returns that)? What tutorial/guide were you following? Were you in adb trying to "dd" the CWM recovery image or were you trying to flash an img file from within fastboot? Either way, what was the exact command you typed?
Your other thread (sorry, didn't realize I had replied to you in two different places) received an answer as well. After looking around to get the info you need for this post, I see now you've posted in quite a few threads to which I'm subscribed (guess I just never noticed the name, sorry).
So I see you have an unlocked bootloader. At this point, yes, flash CWM. Blue6ix gave an excellent post on how to do this. Is this the one you are currently trying to follow in order to install CWM?

Did this help? Only things I can think of are (1) using ”flash update.zip” instead of ”flash [any] zip file” or, less likely, (2) trying to flash an apk instead of a zip.

Yes, that thread did help me. I used your instructions. I even have a new sd card. I have read some threads about formating it first. I did not do that. Also where can I get a good zip file? I down loaded it from some file sharing program 2share I think... Tried again ROOTED!!!! It was so easy!!! Been doing this for a week!!! Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I too have a MyTouch Slidwe 4G with the hboot 1.45.0013. All the contrary information I have found lead me to go to the professionals. I purchased the root-android.org software. It seemed to run fine - I got no errors and it said that the phone was rooted. I see the superuser app on the phone. However, when I try to run Titanium Backup, it says that the phone is not rooted. The people at root-android.org are not answering my emails (I did get my money back). Any ideas of where I should go from here?

You should never have to purchase root for any android, if it has been done once then chances are it is plastered how to all over the internet, if the phone has a thread on xda then it will be there. Being you got yourself this far I'll help you out a bit more

Read and understand is my advice, always read until you understand, then search if you have questions, then finally ask questions here if you are still stumped.
For the most part every question you can ask is already answered by one of the super helpful xda folk here, and chances are it is the right information.

how to update to 4.4.x after this... New to android

First of all, I have been reading this forum for about two weeks and just registered in order to get some help as I do not want to break my one week old nexus 5.
From my reading, the updates can be done in quite different ways and because of that I want to be sure what I should do.
I started by:
- root the mobile with cf-auto root. It did everything for me, got the superuser icon automatically
- installed clockwork mod and I have the custom recovery. By the way, I made a backup with it but where was it written? I want to copy it to my pc.
- other than that, I have installed some root only apps like rom manager, greenify, root Explorer, etc. I supported those developers with purchase. Those guys deserve it.
Anyway, i am looking for the safe way to update to 4.4.1. I read some members saying they lost root after the update, others lost something else (I am referring to the thread on nexus 5 general forum).
Can you help me? What path shall I go? Thanks a lot.

To update you'll basically have to go back to stock in a way. By that I mean you can either flash the System.img file from the Factory Image and then update using the update files for 4.4.1 by flashing it in recovery (via Sideload) and then just root again. OR you can install an updated "Stock" 4.4.1 image from the development section and root that.

Hi, your backups are in /mnt/shell/emulated/clockworkmod/backup/
Copy to your PC with 'adb pull /mnt/shell/emulated/clockworkmod/backup'

i sense i am getting somewhere but how do i do that? i am new to this and been reading a lot but the first time all seems very vague. i need a little more help from you!
lets assume i want to just apply the 4.4.1 update (maybe this is the easiest way for now). how do i do it?
also, after the update succeds, i need to root again correct? what happens to all the apps i have right now with root permissions? do they stop working until i root again and give them root privileges again? can i use the cf auto root again?
also, i am on ART, i thought of letting you know since that can cause some problems updating(??)

If you want to apply the new update it all depends on your current setup. I gave you vague options because I don't know what you've done to your phone. If you've only rooted and not changed any of the files in system then it's easy to just flash the update with the recovery. You can download the update and then start recovery (look it up). Once in recovery start ADB sideload and connect to your PC (this assumes you already have working ADB, if not.... look it up ). To sideload you just need to adb sideload filename.zip. You can probably use WugFresh's Toolkit to also sideload but I generally don't use those so dunno what they do these days. Much easier to learn and understand what it does then do it yourself.
If you have a custom recovery you might just be able to flash the update with the recovery like you normally flash any zip in recovery.

thanks for the reply. i am reading on the adb sideload right now... i already have the update zip inside the platform tools. however, in the command prompt, it says my device is unauthorized (i have both the usb debugging and unknown sources ticked). the nexus 5 is connected as MTP.
any clues?

You do it from Recovery. So just copy the file to the phone in some folder. You can't update the phone with it running. So reboot to CWM and then choose Install from ZIP then find the file on your storage and then choose update. That may or may not work as I said depending.

yes, i have been reading those topics and many others.. i managed to solve the adb device unauthorized anyway. just flashed the 4.4.1 zip file under clockwork mod recover.. android is upgrading at the moment. lets see if everything is work as it should.

No need to sideload adb bla bla..
copy the OTA zip into the phone, and just flash it in CWM (install file from internal storage).. 1 minute and done.
You'll get error status 7 at checking if you changed something in system (apart from rooting), else you shouldn't have any problem.

yes, everything is fine. 4.4.1 loaded fine without any errors. i have root checker and when i tested, it says i do not have proper root access. i also lost my clockwork mod recovery.
i am now checking into it to see what needs to be done to gain root access again and get the custom recovery as it was before the update.

You need to flash the recovery again via fastboot (youll lose it every time, unless you flash the flashable recovery ZIP just after flashing the OTA and before rebooting the phone).You'll have this problem every OTA unless you flash the zipped version everytime.
I'd recommend the easy way to root, get the SuperSU binaries and flash them through the custom recovery and you're done..

i see. things are starting to make sense for me.
before reading you post, i tried to get the clockwork mod recovery through the Rom Manager App. it failed. i am now looking for those files you mentioned.
EDIT: i am at the clockworkmod recovery website... is the file i want an IMG?

You'd only be looking for the supersu binaries, since you already have the recovery IMG from te previous time, right? (the one that you need for fastboot).
EDIT: Yes, IMG files are for fastboot, ZIP files for recovery.

but how do i install it? when i go into recovery it only gives me 4 options:
reboot system now
apply update from adb
wipe cache/factory reset
wipe cache partition
i am lost

That's the stock recovery, you can't do nothing from there.
You need to flash the recovery via fastboot (didn't you do that the first time to get your custom recovery..?)

from where can i get the flashable clokwork mod recovery zip file?
i am going to apply the 4.4.2 update now and will be doing it this way:
from the recovery apply the 4.4.2 zip. after this apply the supersu zip. i want to install the custom recovery zip too so when the phone restarts everything will be configured. is this possible?

well, it seems i haven't lost my custom recovery. was it because i installed the supersu before rebooting?

[Q] Trouble installing KitKat 9.18.94

My Razr maxx hd (xt926) had been rooted and bootloader unlocked sitting on version 9.16.9 for a while. With KitKat available I downloaded the 9.18.49 rom file and reset the phone flashing it with the Blur_Version.9.30.1.XT926.Verizon.en.US rom and getting everything back to stock. At this point it shows build 9.8.1Q I loaded the KK rom on the SD card and tried to flash from stock recovery.
During verification it aborts, with an error
expects build fingerprint of xt926_verizon/vanquish:4.1.2/9.8.1q-94/56:user release-keys
this device has xt926_verizon/vanquish:4.1.2/9.8.1q-94-1/57:user/r
Any thoughts on how to deal with this?

I was reading that it rewrites your recovery. Go back into your recovery (should be a new version) and try to I stall again.

Yeah you need to install 2 times.

Definitely, the reboot during the install back into recovery is what confused a lot of us who were part of the soak test and tried to apply it manually ourselves.
When you first go into recovery and install the OTA, it will reboot. At that point, it will boot back to the recovery screen. There, you must press volume up + power. That is different from the old vol up+ vol down.

One other question: My bootloader is unlocked, I'm trying to find the directions to root again under kitkat by manually sideloading. Anyone have a link?

All you need to do is flash CWM and then find a sideloadable SU package to sideload under CWM. That's it.

Thanks. Just a couple more questions before I do this to make sure I don't send my phone back into oblivion and have to start all over again. Is the CWM recovery specific to any particular version of Android, current one available for XT926 on clockworkmod.com download page is 6.0.4.4. Similarly, does SU need to be specific to this phone/KitKat rom?
I've rooted numerous phones before, always using a script like Razr Hd utility. This is my first attempt at manual root so I appreciate your patience

I have the same problem, but I'm getting the error message that expects your device. What was the image that you used? I have the vanquish:4.1.2/9.8

Then you cannot use CWM and there is no safe strap for KK.
Also, root is now lost, but SamuriHL is working on a theory that might work. Unfortunately, it requires locked phones that have NOT taken the soak or OTA yet and we have to wait for the official KK FXZ image file before he can continue. If the phone has had the OTA or soak applied to it, then it can't be part of the test.

I've been helping so many people that when I read "no root", I interpreted it as "locked bootloader".

I'm S - offed through sunshine (gotta love them guys) and had temp root with stock recovery, I assumed the lollipop update would fail but late last night it updated and I lost root. Any idea how to root again?

The issue is I don't have access to my personal computer for the weekend. Any other way to flash twrp? Flashify says I need root so it won't do it. Twrp manager I'm leery of because I heard the partition it puts it in is wrong thereby bricking the phone.

Unfortunately I don't believe Jcase has Sunshine working for lollipop yet... But that doesn't mean all is lost, just means you have to go a different means and you need to know how to use adb commands. Follow this address below and you will have a custom recovery and then you can install whatever custom rom or a pre-rooted LP OTA if that's all you want.

You might be able to try to install the Goo Manager app from the play store to do the recovery install for you. Just not sure if that works without having root. TMWN says it just needs s-off so you may be good. Wouldn't need a computer either for that method. Just make sure you get your download of whatever rom saved on your phone before you wipe your current rom.

Download this and move it to your ext-sd card (not in any folder) using htc file manager. Rename it to 0P6BIMG.zip

Then reboot to bootloader and allow it to flash. This will give you back the latest TWRP. Boot back up and delete that zip off your sd card. IF you don't delete or rename it you won't be able to get to recovery via bootloader (it will keep trying to load that zip).
Then download this (doesn't matter to where-just remember where).

REboot to TWRP manually and flash it. Bam... done.....

It's not flashing - hopefully the rename is OP6 and not zeroP6. When I go to recovery then bootloader nothing happens and if I apply from SD card from recovery it says "no package selected and access denied", I'm sure I'm doing something wrong but I don't know what.

Did you flash this in bootloader?

I power phone off, hold volume down and hit power. Usually at this point I have recovery, bootloader, etc, now I have no options just shows the zip running and a question to update or not.... Either option goes to not updating.

Ok - apparently sometimes I'm a little slow..... All worked incredibly well once user error was taken out of the equation. Thanks Mr. Dottat, you're truly an asset to this forum!!

When it came to update or not to update, I assumed I had to use the volume rocker then hit the power button to invoke the action. I was trying to go volume down to get to update when in reality volume down was the action needed to deny the update!! ?

1. Im rooted on stock 6.0 and unlocked boot loader. Will the OTA work without messing up anything ? Ill have to root again im sure, just want some info before i pull the trigger.

I don't think the update will even proceed being that you're on a rooted ROM. I have that notification too, and i just don't know how to turn it off.

I to am rooted,unlockboot and stock rom. I don't feel like taking a chance. So I used titanium backup to freeze the software update and in the drop down notification if you press it, it's a notification from Google play services if you block it in apps it will disappear from your drop down. I also deleted the update zip in the cache folder.I used es file explorer ,device/cache/update

Okay, I'm assuming you are on H90120e (system version). There is a root exploit for the H90120j update. You just do the following:
Make a backup of your apps and settings
Flash your phone to the new update (H90120j)?
Take a look at either one of these threads to root your device again:

Why can't you flash the phone that is already rooted and has TWRP?
All you are doing is opening the LGUP tool and flashing the new H90120j .kdz file using the "refurbish" option then flashing the H90120j .tot file that has TWRP using the "update" option which will flash the phone regardless of what is running on your phone. The guides on the first link explain that. I believe your concern is keeping all of your settings and apps. Look up Titanium backup, it works for me.

There's a guide in general that tells how to do all this. In fact jun19inf WROTE it.
In a nutshell, do a twrp backup.
Upgrade to 20j by flashing the stock 20j kbz.
Enable usb debugging and oem unlock
flash tot that has twrp in it.
Now you can go into twrp and 1) root via supersu 2) restore ONLY data from your twrp backup taken previously to get your apps etc back. Alternatively Titanium Backup will also do just fine.

If all is you have is root, you should be able to unroot in the SuperSU settings, and then let the update install. But if you have TWRP, then I can't see any way to do the update without using a PC to flash your phone back to stock ROM and recovery. Although you may check the dev. section to see if Eliminator has a flashable ROM to bring you up to date.

Hi all. I just got my factory warranty back and I attempted to root it. Everything went as it should, until just after the install finished. Instead of rebooting normally, it now will only reboot into TWRP. Once there, when I try to flash a custom ROM (in this case, Bliss, but I don't think it matters, I get an error message that says the zip file is corrupt. Then, while still in recovery, when I tried to wipe everything except the sd card, it says mkfs.fat process ended with error. I then powered down and attempted the factory reset. I scrolled down on both screens and it did not say anything about any errors, so I assumed it took. However, it reboots right back into TWRP recovery. It also boots right to TWRP recovery when I try to boot normally. Of course, adb does not recognize the phone in any mode that I can get into (fastboot/recovery/download), so, I can't use LG Bridge to reflash the original firmware. Does anybody have any ideas for a fix? I know that this replacement phone had 6.0 on it. I thought I did everything to a t? TIA...

Did you select refurbish or upgrade?
I believe you need to select upgrade when flashing or you get stuck in TWRP

Thanks so much for your reply, I was about to flash it to downgrade my V10 from V20L to V20J i even downloaded the files for it Phew....
Okay, I have searched most of the rootings are V20J i have not found a method for rooting and twrp for V20L software update.
