How can I make my phone think it's on a specific WiFi network? - General Questions and Answers

I want to be able to use the verizon fios mobile remote while I'm not at home. To use it, you have to be on the same wifi network as the tv. I want to mess with the tv while I'm not at home. Would there be any way to make my phone think I'm in the wifi network at home while I'm actually on mobile data?

You could probably setup a VPN to connect your phone to the home network from anywhere you have internet access

Afaik if your router can run ddwrt you can setup openvpn on it. You would also need to install openvpn on your phone though which requires root

Yeah my phone is rooted, but how hard would it be to install openVPN on the router?

I had the same problem in my house with my ATT U-verse wifi router when a couple friends came over with their iphone and laptops.
I think the U-Verse router has a maximum connexions.
Are you able to connect somewhere else? Have you checked the password for the encrypted WiFi connexion?
Using wifi for this reply. Definitely working.

tethering market apps on ATT ?

I have a tethering app i sideloaded and have been using for a while nicely. Out of curiosity though i look again through the market to see what tethering apps are out and about. now EVERY one of them says not compatible with my "att" nexus s.
Does anyone know if they are TRULY not compatible or is it more a disclaimer they are putting on the app since att doesnt allow tethering?
I am on stock rooted 2.3.4

If your rooted, market enabler and spoof a provider that does allow tethering.
Remove sim and connect via wifi. Then it will show up in market

[AOKP] WiFi tethering?

Okay guys, it seems like no matter what i do, I can't get the WiFi tethering to work. I tried all the apps from the play store, and the built in tethering in the settings. It would make the hotspot, but when I connect to it, it can't connect to the internet for some reason. Any ideas? I'm running AOKP.
Thanks

Have you tried the new apn route?
What browser are you trying to use?
Sent from my HTC One S using xda premium
Google chrome.
What's this new APN?

Just create a new apn, cl it whatever you want, and where it says apn put epc.tmobile.com
Try firefox instead if you can, tethering seems to work better on firefox

still doesn't work.
It can make the hotspot, its just that when i connect to it using my pc there's no internet access.
What rom/kernel are you running? What error does it give you? Just the no connection one?

Same here . It creates the hotspot and comnectsbbut does not provide any signal . Only non sense roms is when this happens

Sent from my ADR6300 using xda app-developers app
yes you can, did u try? should work
usb tethering works with pdanet i believe it was but i gave not found a wifi tether solution.
Sent from my ADR6300 using xda app-developers app
wifi tether works with built in settings at least on xt 925 stock, make sure u either JUST try without security or just use number as security. I know it works both rooted and unrooted.
does that cause you to get the mobile broadband connect fee?
Sent from my ADR6300 using xda app-developers app
no there s no fee , you are just sharing your own internet that you pay already for, depending where you are an dyour carrier, there may be a limit to how much you can use , maybe 4-5GB but that depends...:good:

Try to use static IP (advanced options when you want to join the WiFi network)
Really hate to ask, but you entered the right password? It's not weak, so it's not avoiding the connection.

I zee two networks with the same ssid. Do they both have the same key? Otherwise it will indeed be picky.
