Charge Factory Reset/acitivation/sim card Question??? - Verizon Droid Charge

Hi, I just joined the Charge party today... coming from fascinate and have a few questions before i dive into flashing on this phone. My concerns are all related to reactivating the phone after factory reset or flashing roms since this is my first phone with a sim card.
1) Does the sim card need to be replaced after resetting or flashing phone??? If not, does the sim card need to be reactivated or does it stay activated???
2) Should the sim card be removed before resetting or flashing phone???
3) What is the process for reactivating because I heard you cant use the *228 method???
Thanks in advance

the sim card does not need to be removed before flashing, also doesnt need to be replaced after flashing!! and you do NOT use *228 that is not for LTE phones.

Rebooting the device is the equivalent to dialing *228 for LTE phones

I've flashed plenty of things for this phone and the sim card is never involved. The only time I've ever seen the sim card involved is when resetting the phone to stock ed2, but that's no longer necessary seeing as the ee4 method is out.

Thank you for your help.
Does the stock ed2 method require a new sim card???
Asking because sometimes it is necessary to use odin and repartition a phone if having issues coming from voodoo or other issues which simply flashing rom does not correct.

No you just need to remove the sim card. I haven't seen any guides or any posts whatsoever on xda about anyone getting a new sim due to a bad flash.

I've left my SIM card in while flashing every stock build we have and have had zero problems. There's really no reason to ever remove your SIM card.
Think of the sim card like another SD card, basically, that stores your subscriber data separately from the phone. That's really all it is -- a very low-memory storage device. Your phone reads that activation data every time it starts up, which is why you never need to manually activate the phone.

[Q] Help! Invalid Sim Card? Tried everything!

Hey Guys,
I need some help with my G2x. Everything was working absolutely fine with it. I updated, modified the phone etc everything working great. One night, I'm sitting here and I pick up my phone to use it. I notice it says invalid sim card and I have no signal. I figured either T-Mobile had a problem or maybe I just needed to hard reboot. I did that, nothing. It finds the network for t-mobile, but it can not connect. No matter what I do, INVALID SIM CARD. I restore it, INVALID SIM CARD, NVFLASH restore to factory, INVALID SIM CARD. It was working completely fine and then one night it just crapped out and it's been over a month. I can't figure out what to do. I went to a t-mobile dealer today and got a new SIM card, it says the same thing! INVALID SIM INVALID SIM INVALID SIM.
I don't really know what to do at this point, I've tried everything.
I searched all over the forum, heard suggestions from call t-mobile to restore etc but nothing is working here.
My last ditch effort is to try unlocking the phone. I'm waiting for the unlock code now, but I'm really hoping that someone with more experience might know what I'm dealing with here and hopefully lend a helping hand in terms of some advice.
It'd be greatly appreciated. I'm fairly saavy when it comes to recovering bricked phones, etc. but I've never had an APN issue where the APN is good to go and the SIM works in other phones, etc. but not mine including when a t-mobile dealer actually links a brand new sim to the phone and it still isn't working, etc. No clue what's going on but I'm hoping unlocking the phone will help. Any help would be really appreciated.
Sorry to hear that happened. Did u try a different sim?

yes no sim card is currently working on it.
I just unlocked the phone, it does not fix the problem.
It continues to say invalid sim card. :-(
---------- Post added at 04:52 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:19 PM ----------
In the settings menu when I go to APN's it has the t-mobile apn and everything is correct. I go to network operators and ATT, T-MOBILE US and T-MOBILE GSM come up, but when I try to connect to any one of the three it says "unable to connect to this network at this time. Please try again later" I am mystified. I've tried everything I can think of.

Another point to make.
When I put in the sim card, even though it's NOT registering to the network and every card says INVALID SIM CARD, I received a notification telling me that I had a voicemail......... when I put my sim card into another phone and called my vm, I did indeed have a v/m.... so I don't believe the phone is shot, I believe something is just very wrong and I don't understand what it is.
You need a new similar, this happened to me, I rooted my g2x and it said invalid similar, if u show T-Mobile they will give u a free one

have you tried a full wipe then flashing a new rom?
simple method to try
Multiple times.
I've NVFlash recovered to stock.
I've flashed multiple different roms.
I'm wiped everything over and over, hard rebooted many times over.
Completely formatted the phone and recovered, etc.
I've tried a million things.
When I put the card in, T-mobile comes up for a second then goes away and says invalid sim card. I went to a t-mobile dealer, they gave me another sim card and it's the same thing. I really just don't know what to do. I feel like I've tried everything.
Do you have another T-Mobile phone, or any unlocked GSM phone, you can use to test the sim card? At least that way you can determine if the problem is with your phone or the actual sim card.
Sounds like an issue with your phone, but its always good to be sure.

Sounds like your baseband code got corrupted or your baseband chip went bad. Restore it and do a warranty swap if you can. No way to reflash baseband at this time on the G2X.

he might still be able to re flash the baseband via this method, especially if he still has the old one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1180331

Yes, if that works it will flash the new baseband and return his phone to GB stock. Worth a try.
hey guys... no warranty. It's fix it or I'm screwed, unfortunately.
It sounds like you guys identified the problem with the baseband corruption..
I'm going to try and do all methods suggested in the thread including unrooting and updating to gingerbread, rerooting... and also flashing the baseband...
I'll be back with some results!
Thanks for all of the suggestions, I'm obviously hoping I can resolve this!
Thanks again
I got "invalid sim" only when trying to start wifi calling and booting to CWM and wiping the cache and rebooting solved the problem.
If nothing works for you get a new sim card from t-mobile.
T-Mobile also had some funny setting in my account and after several hours with tech support and providing a sim card (phone number) of friend of mine they fixed it. As in ..my phone worked fine with my friends sim card but not with mine.

Yikes! Thats taking phone sex to a whole new level ... Did you try removing the battery and sim card, waiting a few seconds and then reinserting and rebooting?
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
Yes I have done everything possible... Before the CM7.0.1.0 rom was installed, my baseband was from March 2001, now it reads July 2011. I have tried to switch back to the prevoius Baseband, but it wont let me either.

[Q] Issue with sim card after using GTG's_Ultimate_Unbrick

I went back to original stock rom because one of my co workers wanted to buy my Infuse to give to his wife. He did not want it to be rooted or have anything on it. I followed the directions in GTG's_Ultimate_Unbrick thread and it worked perfectly. Everything was completely stock like I just opened the box except for one thing...the sim card is not recognized. It says " NO SIM CARD IN PHONE AFTER YOU INSERT THE CARD, PLEASE REBOOT. EMERGENCY CALLS CAN BE USED."
I work for ATT so I know its not because the sim card is bad (I think I tried five new ones today trying to get it to work) plus I used working sim cards from working devices but it still says the same thing.
I tried running through GTG's_Ultimate_Unbrick again but to no prevail. Has any one encountered this or can any one please point me in the right direction on how to fix this issue?
Thank you in advance!!!

Did you wipe data/factory reset after unbricking?
If not, try that.
Today around 4:00pm I just had the same problem; however, the problem didn't arise when I used GTG's Ultimate Unbrick... The problem arose when I tried sending an MMS, I sent the first one, it worked, then I had to resend the same MMS to another person, it never sent it, so I tried restarting my phone, and that's when it popped up as "Sim Card Not Found" Ugh!!.. I just tried Flashing it back to stock using Odin GTG's Ultimate Unbrick. I was hoping it was just an ICS random bug, or maybe a just a ROM specific bug. So any help at all would be awesome.
Anyone have any ideas?

Can't read sim card

Hello everyone,
I have an unlocked phone and I have been using it with a canadian carrier Mobilicity for a few months already with no problems, until this evening I rebooted my phone and it tells me to insert a sim card. I then proceeded to try and fix the problem, by pulling it out and rearanging it and then rebooting and over again with no success. I then tried another sim card and still nothing. If it is relevant, I am using a rom called Valhalla with a stock + voodoo kernel and a KJ3 modem. I have also not recently installed or flashed anything. Thank you very much to everyone in advance.
Edit: I think this is a virus of some sort because now my lockscreen is gone and also I cannot play videos and pictures I took with the camera. I will just flash a new rom and I think this will fix the problem.
Try cleaning the contact points with some rubbing alcohol and ensure they are making clean contact.

Thank you but I tried this already.
I've used a pencil eraser to clean sim cards. But if you have tried cleaning it already and now other operations like the lock screen are acting up I would wipe and flash a new ROM.

[Q] Sim won't recognized :(

Hi Guys,
I just bought an infuse last night off from craigslist. I checked the phone thoroughly before I bought it and everything is working fine. When I get back home, the phone signal keeps dropping on and off so I thought the sim card might be loose. So I took it out and reinsert the sim card. Boot back up and the phone won't recognized the sim anymore. Keep seeing please insert sim even though the sim card is in there and worked fine earlier. I reset it to factory default but no luck. I put the sim in different phone and it's working fine. I tried with different sim card from my friend's phone who has galaxy s 2. The phone detected the sim but no signal at all. I reboot, factory reset but no luck at all.
The phone has CM7 rom and when it was working, it was great. Is there any way I can fix it? I checked the phone on samsung warranty info and it's only 3 months old, so still under warranty. I don't know they will honor warranty though since I bought it off from craigslist. Is there anyway I can fix it? Please help me. Thanks a lot.
Reset to stock and see if that helps. Try using some other working sim and check if the problem persists.
I have already factory reset it. Tried with 2 different sims. One sim recognize but no signal. Should I flash back to stock rom and try?

I would flash back to stock via Odin or heimdall and see if the problem is resolved....

I just flashed back to stock with heimdall. I will test out and report back. Thanks.
edit. Doesn't work even after flashing back to stock rom. Sending it out to Samsung for warranty repair. Thanks.

[Q] I fladhed back to a stock ROM from CM11,and have no service.

I flashed a stock rom for my SGS3 from CM11, and it all seemed to be successful. That is, until I found out that my SIM card was not being recognized, thus giving me a circle with a line through it.
I tried another micro SIM card, but it did not do anything. I tried my SIM in a different phone and it worked.
What can I do to get service back?
