Hey was wondering if anyone could help me figure out how to use tv out? I can't anything about what wire is needed and where to plug it into .. grrrr
as far as I know, we only have DLNA streaming... no wired video out that I'm aware of.
so you need a dlna compliant receiver of some sort to stream video wirelessly.

Why'd they have to call it "TV out" then? Not disagreeing with you necessarily because I could see the TV format being a parameter for DLNA encoding or something - just seems dumb they couldn't name the setting more appropriately if that's the case.
I might try switching the setting to pal and streaming to the ps3 tonight to see if it screws stuff up; I guess that would answer the question.
like the Sensation, the MT4G S uses MHL technology to provide HDMI mirroring.
Ha, Thank u a lot.
May be related -
When I plugged in my old Nokia earphone/mic, the TV-OUT screen popped up, and the audio was completely garbled.

Not that I don't believe you, but I couldn't find any documentation on that. I'm hoping it does support MHL but where did you read that from?

?? that would be nice, but there isn't any info anywhere supporting this claim.
I'm 99.9999% sure (it's ridiculous how tough HTC makes this to figure out, by the way) we have DLNA and that's it. I'm not sure where the idea that we have MHL came from, so maybe someone can elaborate?

I am employed by Magenta. Unfortunately, there isn't much "documented" info about this feature. There are even Documented features that are misleading.. there will be No customizable lock screen or shortcuts.. :/
Anyways, I've had an S-OFF device for quite some time and I'll attach a pic of my laser-etched device I received in May. I've seen MHL in action with both the Sensation and the MT4G S, but wasn't able to record or document anything due to several NDAs, as these were dark devices at the time. (first week of May)
I am one to want some kind of "confirmation" other than a comment provided on XDA as well, but I assure you I wouldn't go commenting on forum just to provide false information, as I simply don't have that kind of time.
(can't post stupid pic on iPad 2) (I don't have an MHL adapter right now, but I do plan on getting another one this wknd, and I'll attach pic/vid as soon as I can, if someone doesn't beat me to it)

well hot damn.. that is great news. glad you chimed in.
I'm assuming something like this would work then? do you know if MHL is supported out of the box or if there is any additional software needed? might pick one up to play around with it myself... this would be soooo much better than DLNA for my needs.
Well, I stand corrected. Email just received verifies there is NO MHL support, only 3.5mm video out.
Damn, no one is more disappointed than I. (shows how often and frequently the mobile industry changes)
Apologies for any hype I caused. (this isn't the first time a feature has been removed between test and release keys)

It must be something like a 4-connector one:

you've done no harm, my friend.
thankfully I was awaiting your input before ordering an MHL adapter, hehe.
I was unaware of the video-out via 3.5mm, so that's cool too. it ain't HDMI, but it works in those situations when I can't utilize DLNA.

The picture is certainly fuzzier through the 3.5mm than it would be through a MHL adapter. My question is if it's hardware or software currently that's not supporting it if both phones were viewed (at the time) with it.

Well the Galaxy S line also has support for 720p video recording, but the Nexus S does not. So who knows. I was checking out the teardown from ifixit and it doesn't look like there are a lot of components on the board itself. I could be terribly wrong, but it looked very minimalistic and simple.

I think Radio is not there...
But i am wondering why all people asks things that google never advertised...
The phone doesn't record on 720p, doesn't have radio etc etc...
We all must understand that Nexus S is most of a developer phone and google sell it to show what pure gingerbread can do....
So please to search reasons to buy or not....
All people asking for facillities that don't exist....
This is the phone....
If you want a phone to shoot 720p video, to have radio, to have led notification, to have metallic body etc etc, this isn't your phone...
If you want a phone with quick and very good support for Google and community, a phone with pure Android gingerbread, a full unlocked and Open Source phone to play with, then this phone is the only choice you have...
Both the N1 and NS have the same chip (BCM4329) which has both FM TX & RX on the chip. I sure in time they will get the FM radio working.

I am wondering why people jump in with non-responsive posts. People ask questions because they don't know something and haven't found the answer by other means (assuming they looked). How does a response like yours help move the conversation forward.
The phone has a thousand features in it, and only a couple of dozen advertised. Should we assume that the 900+ features that aren't advertised don't exist and therefore are a reason not to buy the phone.
The Nexus One hardware supported FM radio reception, but Google did not put it in there; we had to wait for the hackers to add it. See this post.
It's certainly reasonable, in my opinion, to ask if the Nexus S, which many think is basically just a slightly modified Galaxy S (which supports FM radio) can do so, and if it's as simple as adding an apk from another Galaxy S device.
To the original poster, I don't know the answer, but if I were interested enough to do a little research, I'd google the ifixit teardown of the Nexus S, then see what radio chip it uses, and if that particular chip has FM radio capability. If it does, it's just a matter of time before some enterprising dev adds it in. Probably not as simple as installing an apk, there are most likely driver and/or kernel changes necessary to get it functioning.
edit: I see others have already looked that up. I've NEVER used FM radio on my N1 or SGS, but nice to know that it might be there someday, just in case.

Because the nexus one was said to not have radio, but after long we now have fully working f m radio on the nexus one. So why not do the same with the nexus s?
Yes. the Nexus S indeed has FM capabilities, courtesy, the BCM4329 chip inside
And do you think that with some code it will be possible to Nexus S video recording 720p as Nexus One ?

Yes, and no. There's allegedly a bandwidth bottleneck in the hardware on the NS that the GS doesn't have; so while 720p is possible, it will be at fewer frames per second if/when we get it.
for as cool as it can be to have the FM radio like the SGS... i still ponder what is the point of it?
i know i know, just for the sake of having it, and the very rare occassion you will actually use, when you use your wired headphones....
but i've owned the SGS for 4+ month, i've only used it ONCE in the entire time, and it was only to check if it was working or not, and the people complaining the FM radio sounded like MONO (which was actually a code bug, and not hardware deficiency)
in this age of MP3 and AC3 and POT CAST, Streaming Radio stations (3G/WiFi) play backs... a good old authentic FM radio (which will not work if you are not using a wired headphone) has fallen into a "novelty" category, instead of a "cool feature" category as it was in the past.
if they could make the FM radio work without the wired headphones, and be able to Stream the FM audio via bluetooth, then that will really be Enjoyable

LOL, I just disagreed with you on something else in another thread, but on this topic, we're on the same page. I've also only used my FM radio on the SGS once, and just to see if it worked.
Now, if it offered HD radio service and some of the offset digital channels, it might get more use out of me. Seriously, I'd be more likely to use a built-in radio if it were AM for news and talk radio. For music, too many better options available to us on the data-connected phone.
Still, if the hardware's there, nice to be able to use it if you wanted.

It would be nice to transmit your music to the FM - for the car stereo.

The creator says it works on all mobile phones and looking at the g2 it looks like it would work fine. Has anyone tried it?
I've seen the vaneworks, and the onemoreface, now there's this one. Nice find. I haven't tried any of these, but they all will have the same issue (in varying degrees) with the g2. It is best explained on the compatability page of the vaneworks product. The g2 camera is a little far from the edges of the phone, so you may not get a full image.
Also, supposedly, the light is low when using smaller mirrors.
Hopefully someone will try these products and post back.

i can verify that the vainworks stand works for g2. camera is only a bit off. in camera mode...you see a little of your phone...but i can verify in video chat via tango...it just fit. i mean...i see like a 10th of an inch of my phone. cant even notice. landscape is a bit of a hassle though as the camera is more towards the middle rather than top heavy. its ok though. my girls hd2 can only do lanscape cuz her phone is right in center with regards to either edge of the phone.
also, is there a catch to this iseeu? catch.. such as camera position like the vainworks stand has? will it work with all cameras no matter what location it is on phone? it must be adjustable.
From the videos I've seen its very adjustable
@havikx:
Can you post self portrait pics taken on G2/vainworks in portrait and landscape? (see vain works compatability page for examples http://vainworks.com/compatibility-chart/). (maybe post on the vain works thread)
On the adaptability factor for all of these products, if the mirrors are "over the top" of the phone (instead of "around the side") then you will be upside down. Not sure which apps have the setting to flip the image...

i will if i can get around to it. actual performance is based on video call. i know the camera app shows a little more of the phone depending on resolution settings.

it looks good but yeah i doubt you can get the full image of the camera as it is lower down
With such tiny little mirrors doesn't really seem like it could capture the full image, and what a pain to use, I imagine you would have to detach it to carry it around or use the keyboard?
But also seems like someone confirmed it doesn't work. Novel Idea
Hey everyone
just switched from HTCs sprint evo to Verizon droid charge. Was wondering, what happened to gif animations? My evo did this flawlessly. I can't see how my phone can render movies, games, hack other computers, change the channel on the tv, etc. But can't animate a gif in the browser?
If anyone can tell me a tweak or a Rom that does this, im all ears.
Also, could someone manage to get a still of the boot animation to use as wallpaper?
Thanks in advance! .
Have you tried a different browser?
I'm using opera mobile and I can view gifs just fine.
Dolphin works fine.

different browser is your best bet for online .gifs, I use quickpic in place of the stock gallery and it has no trouble playing saved ones... as for the boot animation as a live wallpaper it hasn't been done yet, doesn't mean it can't be its just that its hard to take samsung's special .qmg file and make it into anything usable
Thanks for the replies. Firefox is working fine. Was hoping to get gif animations, user agent options, and flash all in the same browser. I guess i was spoiled with my EVO.

its still hard to do as it can't be screenshot (unless you mean taking a pic of the phone screen with another phone/camera which may work but won't be too high quality I think) and can't be made into any kind of usable .gif or video due to the retarded proprietary .qmg animation file... I bet a dev or someone with more android knowledge may be able to do something with it but no luck so far, even the mighty google has failed in turning up anything usable lol

i researched further: .qmg files are proprietary to samsung and cannot be opened, edited, or played unless you work for samsung and have access to the source used to make the .qmg... this means our only options are to screenshot it to get either a picture or a video, but as I said it will not be too high quality
edit: no luck trying to get a picture with a camera, it just looks like crap... I can only think of two options, maybe finding a high quality video of it online and using that to make something or possibly connecting it to an HDTV and maybe getting a screen cap that way

Np.. Hope something works, I'd love that as a live wallpaper or hell even a pic for a background. It's been worked on and many people want it, so hopefully someone can do something
I was thinking too that since obviously the phone can run/play those kind of files, I wondered if there was a way to get it to play it while the phone's on to maybe get it that way
edit: also kinda sorta found it here in the VZ commercial for it:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sc3aLMTwB0c&feature=related
if anyone's good with video editing maybe you can grab it from there, about 23 seconds in
Will any of these work for you?

This is the one that's in the Droid Charges boot animation. The only one besides the nexus I've seen people to do anything with.

The one linked below worked pretty well as a wallpaper. The eye takes up most of the screen, but looks pretty good.

How about this?
Hey guys. Tmo has this phone online for free, but the web only offer ends today. I'd like to buy it, but just need to know about the camera quality to replace our recently lost camera. My wife will only let me get it if I assure her we won't have to buy a separate camera. This would be our first android phones, though I have an Acer iconia a500 tablet.
How is the picture quality? Is it slow to snap like some of the honeycomb tablets? Does it have a flash?
How is the video capture quality?
Can someone post a sample picture and video clip here?
As I said, the free web offer ends today, so if the camera quality is good, I want to order them tonight.
Thanks,
EB
PS. Is music playing quality good too? My wife will be using it to replace her mp3 player that just died.

What phone? Did you read the specs? Most any phone with a 5mp+ camera should take really nice photos.

Sorry. The t-mobile g2x. Isn't this the correct forum for that phone?
The cnet review said the picture quality didn't meet their standards. Guess I'm looking for confirmation.

An 8mp camera should give you great pictures, and it records 1080p video. You can always use 3rd party camera apps too. Sounds like a good deal if they are free, imo.

Th G2x camera is pretty disappointing. There are a number of threads around here discussing the issue. I don't think you should choose this phone if the camera is a real priority.
Music playing is excellent, better than most.
Thanks for the info.. I was just about to order them online, but like the saying goes.. they screw you in the drive-thru.
I was thinking the Free web-offer (exp today) with the 49.99/line for 2 lines plan was an awsome deal. However, it seems you can't get that plan online, only in the stores, and you can't get the free web offer in the store..
If want to get a new phone, the way I've found is to go and look in a store. Use one, play with it, move on to the next. Try them all if needed. Then if you can find a better deal for the one you want online, you know exactly which one to order.

You do realize you are in a T-Mo LG G2x specific forum, right?
Do I have to be using one in order to post here?

No, of course not. I was just trying to help.
Carry on.
LOVE my g2x camera, it's amazing. (with the back cover off, lol)
But a few modifications to the battery cover fixed that 3:-}
For what its worth consumer reports actually rated the G2X as having the best smartphone camera.
http://pressroom.consumerreports.or...-match-stand-alone-devices-in-many-respe.html
Mine takes fantastic photos. Haven't done much with videos but the still shots are awesome considering they were taken WITH A PHONE!!! Lol
Here are a couple I've taken with mine. The 2 cloud photos were taken with my G2X and then edited on the phone with Picsay Pro.

Nice shots!
I wonder if Consumer Reports still feels the same way after the GB update.
I'm not trying to bash the phone here, I honestly think the G2x camera is flawed. On mine every still photo is kind of blurry or soft focused, and with an overall hazy tint. Video at both 1080 and 720 suffers from obvious block pixelization, the more motion in the scene the worse the image appears. I have tried cleaning the glass on both sides of my cover and observed very little difference in still images.
If I'm not mistaken there was at least one thread here where this was discussed. Also, the consensus from those who have both seems to be that the Sensation has many flaws, but it's camera provides superior images to the G2x's.
ETA:It looks like I have grease or something on the lens in this video, but I didn't. I must confess I don't remeber if I was using the GB OTA camera or the 1.5 LG cam from this forum. I can say I haven't seen any better video out of my phone since I got it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qNyepSKmyuI

You're holding it wrong
I've been telling people this for years - remove that glass on the battery cover! Its like a dirt magnet. Never understood why you would put glass over a camera lens... I'm using an exented battery without the camera lens glass cover. The pictures are night and day.
Trying to delete this post - XDA Prem App has gone loco.

Thanks for posting the consumer reports link. More proof that LG ripped us all off, whether or not we all realize it.
CS is praising the feature set of the G2x camera as much or more than anything else. Those features disappeared with the "update"

Yea I have to agree with you here. The camera app in Froyo was very nice and very useful at the same time. Too bad they didn't support it with their gingerbread release. Granted the camera app in 2.3.3 is more in line with their marketing the phone as vanilla android, but it does feel like they removed a feature, or at least downgraded it.
I did not realize we need kernel source for this to work!! My apologies. but when kernel SOURCE does drop this will work! So consider this a future plan and if kernel source never drops?! I'll be selling my phone and have a cheap 64 gig usb flash drive for my ps3/comp! loL So I'm good here!
I wasn't happy when reading that the one x has only 16 gb in storage(technically around 11!)I have over gigs backup in titanium alone! so I looked all around and found a solution that is gonna work for me and it will only cost around 40 bucks USD for all parts needed and will give me an extra 64 gigs to have on me all the time!
First your gonna need one of these or something simillar. My plan is too always have this storage either in my truck or pocket ready to go when I need it!
http://www.ebay.com/itm/64GB-TOSHIB...53?pt=US_USB_Flash_Drives&hash=item1c2906d66d
There are alot smaller and lighter drives out there but I wanted cheap and packs alot of storage so this was a good fit for me!
Now in order to access this drive on the fly your gonna need something like this as well or they also have just the fitting without the cord you just gotta look around a little. I prefer having a little bit of cord personally but up to you!
http://www.ebay.com/itm/221018356464?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
and this will pretty much solve my issue of not having enough storage. Both pieces are small and like I said the cord and drive are so small you can keep it in your pockets and the best part is you won't need pc access nor working wifi to be able to get to your files/unicorn porn!
I hope you guys can make this work for you as I'm quite satisfied with this solution and will work with alot of phones not just the one x its just a matter of if you dont mind carrying 2 things in your pocket/vehicle/desk drawer/ass etc all the time!
Intresting!
I can't see using 16gb of storage on a phone honestly.... it's a phone LOL. It's definitely not a replacement for my tablet.

Like I said especially if you play games? those games sometimes add an extra gig of data after all is said and done.A couple big games and your space is done. I don't personally own a tab just a pc and phone. Don't really see the need for a tab as of right now and can't afford one either!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't we still waiting on the kernal source for the AT&T HOX to enable USB OTG? It might be working by now for the international version but all I've read so far is that OTG isn't (yet) enabled for the AT&T HOX.

Well I just briefly checked google and that may indeed be the case. Oh well it should drop soon and when it does this will definetly work but I will change the title to state "once kernel drops solution" for now if this is the case. I'm brand new to the one x so not sure. Thanks for the info guys!
Damn this is awesome! I can't wait for kernel source even more now, the future looks bright. I can have every game I want installed to that, my whole music folder for long car trips and movies for flights! This is working already for the international hox? I don't want to get ahead of myself, I just want to make sure this will become a reality for our phones.

Well you don't have 16gb you have 9.9 after partitioning. I don't put any music or movies on my phone,I stream those and I've filled this internal card without blinking. A couple of nandroid backups, a rom zip or two, titanium backup backup and pics and vids from a 8mp camera will fill er up fast. This is the worst fail about this phone. C'mon a 32 should've been no question when you don't have add on capabilities.
when I do need to access my huge music library or my movies, and under certain circumstances, I use my seagate 500 gb wireless drive I got for my iPad. http://www.seagate.com/external-hard-drives/portable-hard-drives/wireless/goflex-satellite/. That's if I don't have 4g or wifi available for streaming from my pc.
The jury is still out. We don't yet know if the usb port provides power. I hope it does.

Would powered USB hubs provide a workaround if it doesn't? I did a quick search on the international HOX dev forums for anything USB OTG-related, and found an experimental kernel that required you to connect a powered USB hub in a particular way such that the hub power brick was plugged in near the end of the process. I have no idea how it relates to the AT&T version, but shouldn't the int'l HOX give us some indication of what we can expect from the USB port?

LOL wow I feel like an absolute [email protected] now! Time to change the title again or maybe just delete this thread entirely Nah it still may be useful I'll leave it for now but if a mod thinks this is premature or a go nowhere situation??? then by all means feel free to delete it!
It's definitely an interesting solution nonetheless.

Only thing I could think of besides cloud solutions but now theres alot of factors such as if that port is even gonna have enough juice to power peripheral devices/flash drives. I would think it would?? but who the hell knows companys are always out to screw the buyer more and more every day! Plus like I also said even if it doesn't end up working?? you definetly can use that flash drive on other devices and for 50 cents a gig you cant beat that!
