[Looking for APP] disable HSPDA on screen off - Android Apps and Games

Hi,
I'm looking for an app that automatically switch HSPDA on/off (and keeping 3G on) according to screen state (on/off).
I've look on market with no luck for the moment.

Any app to force EDGE when screen off?

Are there any apps out there which force edge when screen off, turning off the 3G or HSPA (mytouch 4g) radios to conserve energy?
I know there are quite a few apps out there like batteryfu, juice defender, etc which can completely turn off mobile data when the screen turns off, but i use a lot of IM programs so that's not really a solution for me.
i think 2g/3g toggle should work. does as you ask.

Thanks. Yes i tried super power, but thing is every time i come out of sleep i lose ALL radio (including cell) and it takes maybe 10 seconds to re-establish connection. Not sure if this is expected behaviour, but i know i toggle between EDGE and HSPA pretty seamlessly normally when i'm in and out of service areas...
yes there is an app do like this , "sleepybattary" i think this was its name , search for it on the market

[Q] Shorten wifi sleep timeout after screen off (Solved)

In the wifi sleep policy, it is possible to set wifi to sleep after screen off. However wifi does not sleep immediately but 15 minutes after screen off. I would like wifi to sleep earlier, say 5 minutes after screen off.
I searched around and found an app capable of doing this. But it is for samsung phones and doesn't work for defy. Does anyone know if and how it can be set manually?
Juicedefender. That is the exact app to use.
I tried Juice Defender. There are options to disable wifi based on connection existence, preset time, data flow etc, but there is no option to set the how long after screen off wifi would sleep.
Here you go, this should do what you want: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=774507
Good luck
Hmm I actually set my wifi to never turn off automatically. For instance yesterday I made a phonecall with Skype. My mobile connection is too slow for that so I switched the wifi on. During the phonecall I had the screen turned off but of course the wifi needed to stay on.
I have a widgetsoid widget on my homescreen to enable/disable the wifi. Don't like it when things go automatic and it's just as easy when you need wifi only once in a while.

Thanks! Unfortunately moto doesn't have the settings.db file. I tried putting the mentioned key "wifi_idle_ms" in several other files but no effect.
Edit:
Stupid me. I find the location of settings.db and it works perfectly now
For information, the location of defy's settings.db is:
/data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db

Indeed!
Thanks guys; I can now listen to TuneIn radio as long as I want (or my battery allows me to).
If you intend to save battery, maybe you should consider leave "wireless policy" to "never sleep".
It might sound senseless but there are a lot of people reporting substantial battery savings with this, including me, i noticed at least +20 hours in battery life only with this little thing. Charts drawn with Battery Monitor showed the same consumption, Wireless OFF. vs Wireless policy to never sleep. And the most expensive was policy of sleep when screen turned off.

That's probably the case for 3g. But I'm using 2g and find 2g uses less battery than wifi in standby mode (with some background data sync).

Thanks, naenee, for the link. In case anyone is interested, I just made a simplified adaptation of RyanZA's guide, specifically for the DEFY: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=22639770

[Q] App to turn off WiFi when Screen Off

Hi,
Simple question:
I need to poweroff WiFi (not wifi idle that is android standard) when Screen goes off and (of course) poweron WiFi When Screen On.
I've found a lot of app that turn on/off wifi in different way, but none do what i need.
Someone can help?
Tia

Juice Defender is the ABSOLUTE BEST in this regard. You can customise to enable wifi or mobile network to screen on/off or you can customise to connect wifi when you open a certain app that needs data. You can imagine how much battery you'll save. Try it,you wont regret it.

setting profiles does that with very simple config
just set action » rule to screen off » wireless off
and you can even reverse it to screen on » wireless on

Thanks remorema, i'm trying now, i'll post the result.
Thanks to all XDA!
Bye
Idk
Ok, for me setting profile is the best, work as i need!
Thank to all for very very fast help!
This is the XDA Power!
Idk
Can't you just go into the advanced wifi settings and set the screen off behaviour there? (press menu in the wifi-screen to get there)
Wifi seems to be turned off on my Nook Color after setting this (cm7). At least it reconnects after waking it.

[Q] Juice Defender Ultimate

So using this app, I want to be able to listen to live radio but when my screen turns off JD turns off all data connections (expect if I'm on wifi)
What settings do I need to set JD at to keep it from doing that?
Thanks.
Theres a simple setting that is "turn off data when screen is off" or something to that effect. Don't use that setting, and it won't cut off your data.
Be aware that this is one of the main features that Juice Defender uses to save battery, but as you've found out, you get no background data. This means no streaming, but also no push updates from any services.
Keep in mind as well that if you're using your phone frequently, but not for a long time (aka frequent e-mail or text replies, etc.), so you're turning the screen on/off often, JD might actually drain more battery than simply leaving the phone stock. It takes a long time and subsequently a lot of battery power to be turning the data services on and off dozens of times a day. Sometimes moreso than simply letting it stay on. 3G data doesn't really drain a lot of battery unless its actively transmitting.

I'm using the advanced settings in JDU. If you go to the Triggers tab you can try 2 things. Right now I have traffic set to enabled. If live radio is playing and using data then it should continue to do so until the data stream stops. You can play with the settings if you think it needs more or less time or data, obviously.
Previously I used the Apps trigger and told it to give Pandora, Amazon music, etc., full rights to use data. That might be another option for whatever program you are using.
Just go to the Trigger tab (note: You might have to choose Advanced as profile to see the Trigger tab). Then, in the "apps" section, choose activate (or enable, I'm not sure what is called in the english version) if not already chosen. Then tap below on "Configure apps". In that list you look for your Radio app and set it at "Enable/screen off". Then the data connection for your radio app should be enabled even if the screen goes off.
I use it for cut 3g and battery life, do his job, nice app
I would recommend using Tasker instead. You can configure it so that data stays on if the radio is on, but turns off when the radio is off.

What's the advantage of using Tasker instead of Juice Defender?

This seems to work but what I didn't know was that the app has to be in full screen mode. Can not just run it from the widget on my home screen...

App-Idea for network settings to save battery

Hi,
is it possible to create an app, which automaticly sets network to "2G" and "Wifi off" when the phone is in deep sleep, and sets it to "3G" or "Wifi" when the phone is awake ?
Maybe it starts "3G" or "WiFi" after X seconds after the phone awakes.
"2G/3G" isn't configurable via app, but is it configurable via app in a rooted phone?
When I set my phone to "2G only" the battery is keeping up 3 times longer.

I think juice defender can do that

I can't find where I can configure that the phone automaticly switches to "2g" if the Display is off.
And in juice defender all buttons for that (an nearly all other) are deactivated
Thanks for answers
