You know, I don't think this is such a bad idea with all the people having troubles with bum links and RSDlite working on some machines and not others. Just some plain "stock" nandroids of all the SBF's maybe with Root and OR but that is it. Not sure if the kernals will work like that though. Might be something that Hellmonger or Mio can answer.
I was having 9 kinds of hell with Special Beta and memory leaks, so I actually went back to Kahl's V4 Epicsteelblue for now. Way more stable and I have it tweaked just right.
Anyways back on topic, if the S'pore or Koren kernals will transfer, this would solve a lot of peoples problems flashing the Wanhu original, xtSpecial Alfa/Beta and Kahl's Optimized.

All this sbf flashing doesn't make sense to me, actually. I flash the CBW or SKT 50R, and that's it (in the past I have flashed the UK one because Dexter preferred it, but not recently). Kernels are in boot.img--you don't have to flash sbf to change the kernel. The system is in system.img--you don't have to flash sbf to change the system. data and cache get destroyed on factory reset. As far as I can tell, the only thing flashing an actual sbf's does is change the partitions we can't use nandroid for and that are not already identical (basically the radio software).
If you want to get boot.img from an sbf, use sbf_flash -x and rename CG35.img to boot.img and rename CG39.img to system.img. Or make a nandroid backup after you've just rooted and installed OpenRecovery. From what I've seen the partition structures of all Milestone XT720 sbfs are identical.
Specifically, I have managed to collect 9 Milestone XT720 sbfs:
STR_U2_01.18.2_UCASHLSTABB1B4DEMA033.0R_USASHLSTBRTINT_P027_A009_HWp3_1FF.sbf
STR_U2_01.1E.0_SIGNED_UCASHLSTABB1B4DEMA039.0R_UCASHOTBRTLRTCEE_P001_A008_HWp3_1FF.sbf
STR_U2_01.1E.0_SIGNED_UCASHLSTABB1B4DEMA039.0R_USASHLSTBRTINT_P029_A014_HWp3_1FF.sbf
STR_U2_01.1E.2_SIGNED_UCASHLSTABB1B4DEMA039.0R_USASHLSTBSTARSG_P019_A019_HWp3_1FF.sbf
STR_U2_02.1E.0_SIGNED_UCASHLSTABB1B4DEMA039.0R_UCASHOTBRTLRTFR_P018_A009_HWp3_1FF.sbf
STR_U2_02.1E.0_SIGNED_USASHLSTAB14P2XAPCNRTI039.0R_USASHOTBRTLRTIT_P001_A009_HWp3_1FF.sbf
STR_U2_03.20.1_SIGNED_UCASHLSTABB1B4DEMA039.0R_USASHLSTBRTRU_P012_A013_HWp3_1FF.sbf
STR_U2_04.1E.1_SIGNED_UCASHLSTABB1B4D039.0R_NAREG_P011_A006_HWp3_1FF.sbf
STR_U2_04.1E.1_SIGNED_USASHLSTAB14P2XAPCNCBW039.0R_NACBW_P011_A006_HWp3_1FF.sbf
By extracting and comparing the CGs, you can think of them this way:
Identical in all Milestone XT720 sbf
RDL03.img ramloader
CG31.img cdt.bin (partition table)
CG33.img cdrom (autorun drivers)
CG34.img linux boot loader (lbl)
CG53.img kernel panic dump space
CG61.img devtree
Nandroidable in OpenRecovery in all Milestone XT720 sbf
CG35.img boot.img (kernel)
CG36.img cust.img (supposedly /system/etc/motorola but I can't figure out how it's used)
CG37.img data.img (Android /data)
CG39.img system.img (Android /system)
CG40.img cache.img (Android /cache)
CG42.img logo.img (boot logo)
Not identical and not nandroidable
CG45.img bpsw (baseband/gps software)
CG47.img Android Recovery (Motorola Recovery)
So, as you can see, the only things that cannot be modified via nandroid are the Android recovery (who cares?) and bpsw (if baseband ain't broken, don't fix it is my moto).
I think some of the confusion is that on the Special's front page it says to flash the Korean SBF before you apply the new ROM. Then some are saying that the Singapore SBF is the way to go. Then the links are borken or RSDlite isn't working and it is snowballing from one issue into another about SBF before they can even get into the Specials. I just flashed Wanhu's original and laid the special overtop that, in the first place and worked it over from there. My memory leaks are soley self inflicted and I haven't had time to work those out.
It is just in the other thread, it seems like every other question is about the Korean SBF this and the Singapore SBF that and less about the ROM itself and the tweakage that everyone is putting on it.
Hi guy this guy needs sinpor nandriod he not trying to start a discussion what's better.

Think it is more of a clarification issue, rather than which is better. He can't post on the development forum yet and Libertymonger was helping him over there on and about flashing the new ROMs.
Mediaon,The Gentleman who brought us this ROM specifically said to start with Singapore sbf or tv out would not work. To me it's what the man says is what goes! lol. I don't know how Korean got thrown in the mix but I did what the man said, rsdlite the Singapore sbf and most everything is pretty awesome and stable. So if I follow the man's directions and it turns out pretty freakin awesome for me, I'm not gonna try and change what aint broken that's for sure! I've heard great luck with and bad without. That's enough to convince me that's my story and I'm stickin to it! lmao.
I guess I need to figure out how to make a nandroid image of it. I don't know any other way to help him with this. Well I guess if he can flash a nandroid then he can flash a nandroid. So maybe you need to go with the MIUI or Eclair Strikes Back or the EpicSteelBlueXt. I don't know What to advise.
The only reason why I want sg 2.1 stock rom is the warranty issue. I have discovered that there are issues regarding window7 and rsd lite... I am planning to download linux bootable cd and try to boot my computer in linux Os. Maybe it will help. Thanks guys.

Yeah a nandroid wouldn't help much then since you have to be rooted to flash a nandroid right? I wonder if you can run rsdlite in xp mode?

Root isn't technically required. You just have to have openrecovery installed. You usually have to have root to install OpenRecovery, but you can flash a nandroid that doesn't have root. nandroid automatically installs OpenRecovery--so if you flash a system.img extracted from a sbf (which won't have root or OpenRecovery) you end up with a system that has OR but no root.

Yes before Rsdlite in my windows7 computer can easily detect my phone... but now there is a problem... I tried everything like installing and reinstalling rsdlite and moto drivers, still rsd lite cannot detect the phone.

From what I've heard Motorola really doesn't care if the phone has been modded or rooted with their warranties. I have read in a forum or 2 about it From my experience they would never even know or check. But i guess it's not worth the risk. But Cincinnati bell gives us a 2 year warranty and they usually take care of it.

Yea Motorola doesn't care what's been done to your phone rooted with a custom rom or anything. They just restore it 2.1 before they ship it back. And 2 year warrenty from Cincinnati bell? Hmm did u pay extra for that? They always send me to Motorola.

No don't pay extra, if you sign a 2 year contract you get a 2 year warranty. I didn't know that either until I just recently got a replacement from them. I guess if they go thru Motorola I would think they couldn't ship your phone as fast. Oh and my old balackberry I gave to my mom needs replaced and I called cbw and they said my warranty ran out a month ago which would be 2 years. So that sucked cause I assumed I only had a year and it had been ran out or i would have cashed in on it somehow lol. It cost me $10 to get my XT replaced. I should have asked to go thru moto though cause you get to use your cbw warranty twice for the $10 fee then after that it costs $35.

Just wanted to tell everyone that TBH released the rooted gingerbread leak on their app a while ago, here's the steps to install it:
1. Sbf to be completely stock, you must have all the stock apps and be on the 2.4.330, so if you sbf to the .29 firmware, update it to the .330 firmware
2. Root your phone and install bootstrap, don't boot into recovery yet!
3. Install the TBH app (if you don't have it, donate to team black hat to get it) and download the 2 files for gingerbread, there's a part 1 and part 2, don't rename them.
4. Boot into clockwork recovery using bootstrap
5. In bootstrap, flash part one of the update, then immediately after without restarting, flash part 2.
6. Restart, you should get the red M logo and boot into gingerbread, if you bootloop boot into recovery by holding the x button on your keyboard when you turn it on and then hold the vol up+down buttons to unlock the menu, once in the menu do a factory reset.
Rooted GB is pretty fast and stable, haven't encountered any bugs yet, battery life is pretty solid (a bit better than froyo), I'm in the process of freezing apps, its difficult now that they added a lot more bloatware that, I have to figure out which of the new apk's to freeze without breaking anything, just a heads up.
Hope you all enjoy your leaked gingerbread!

I installed the non rooted version of this and it's been working perfectly since last night. No issues at all so far and the battery life seems better but it's still too soon to tell.
All in all, I'd say this is a great release and appears to be better than Froyo even with a ROM. I'm just currently waiting for a way to root it that doesn't involve me having to flash it again and starting from scratch.
You may wait a long time. ..
Any method that can root this without using TBH's files will require a new exploit for GB.
Dumb question, since I'm currently running a DINC2. What's the bootstrap? I've still got my old D2G, and want to put it to use now that this is leaked, but need to learn some of the terminology over here.
Thanks!

not gonna happen, currently the only way to get a rooted version on the other moto droids (except the OG droid) are to install a rooted version, theres no way to root from within gingerbread.
Hmm... I didn't know that last part there... I guess I should install the TBH version now then before I do any more customization on it. That way It doesn't hurt so much to SBF again.

so basically no need for the TBH root app?
I've seen that posted on some other sites as well since this morning. Apparently it's the same files from the TBH app. I believe you only needed the app initially to download them and nothing else so now you can flash them on your own.
the rooted version on the tbh app was released first, if you know tbh you know that when they have a leak, they like to release it on the app first, then maybe a day or so later release it to the public, when i made this post it was only available on the app.
I've been asking on My Droid World, but I haven't gotten any replies yet. I need the /system/etc/security/cacerts.bks from the new release, because I altered my cacerts.bks to add CAcert's root and now the checksum doesn't match, and therefore this won't install. Can someone send me their cacerts.bks?
There you go.
But this is from stock 2.4.330 version which I presume is what you actually need for the verification to complete.

I goofed up. :cyclops:
I was on a nice custom 2.3.6 ROM, and now I'm just on needles.
I was ...um, let's just say,.. barely conscious. So, anyhow I'm not 100% positive what I did -- but this is my best guess.
I am fairly sure I was fiddling with system settings (just looking around, no changes), and probably because of the apps I had installed, things became unstable.
What's strange now, is that I don't recall pausing on CWM recovery, which is VERY odd indeed, because I WAS really happy to have installed JW Daddy's CWM on every boot installed, and I've still got several full CWM backups that should work fine.
This much is 100% certain, after several failed attempts to stabilize (even long enough to uninstall the most recent apps), I decided to just restore a CWM backup. But I had forgotten that I had the CWM on every boot mod installed (because it wasn't working anymore, for some reason), and still didn't remember, even after I failed to find the Bootstrap app (which I had uninstalled, just after installing the CWM on every boot mod).
I must have just figured it was probably some ROM or backup of a ROM that I had put on that was clean I guess. Of course, on the next cycle up, it stayed up just long enough, so that I finally got the BootStrap installed again, but before I could hit the button to reboot into CWM, the phone crashed back down into a loop again, and this time, never came back up at all, not even for a second. Factory reset, & clearing Dalvik cache didn't help either.
The problem is that I didn't have a chance to reboot into CWM Recovery after installing the bootstrap and now that it won't boot at all, I'm just stuck looping without an easy way to get into CWM recovery. I am able to get into the useless stock recovery and/or fastboot, but I'm not sure what to do, now that I've got (I think) 2 additional goof-ball mods potentially in there --- one for the old faithful A2 Bootstrap, that is used to reboot into CWM recovery, and of course, the CWM on every boot mod, which was for whatever reason, broken by some other cause (possibly the apps I was fiddling with?) even before I 'worsened' things up.
I'd rather not go all the way back to stock 2.3.5 via RSD but I may have to? What say thee?

Yeah, it sounds like a goof up to me.
You're probably going to have to FXZ the 2.3.5 and then upgrade to the 2.3.6 and use the FXZ fix to get your phone back to where it was. The problem that probably occurred was that you had both the bootstrap and the cwm on boot at the same time. You shouldn't use both of them, only 1 or the other.
If you read the posts, it tells you to un-allow the bootstrap app after installing the cwm on every boot. In fact, the roms that come with the cwm on boot on them don't even have the bootstrap app.

Oh well. I was hoping to at least only FXZ to 2.3.6 and maybe skip a step, since I was already there. ugh.
Thanks DusThis (hitting the Thanks Button now ;-)
Is there a single criteria that defines when we can FXZ back to 2.3.6 versus 2.3.5?
Yeah I would FXZ back to 2.3.5 and do the OTA, then restore your CWM backup using the bootstrap.
There is not currently a way to FXZ back to 2.3.6. Our 2.3.5 was something a very nice XDA member went and got off of a moto server for us. Since this phone ships with 2.3.5, and not 2.3.6 I am sure we will not see a 2.3.6 FXZ unless we make our own which is totally possible, but more work that it may be worth.

<-- ahh, this makes sense now. There is more to an FXZ than just what comes OTA (I had forgotten that ;-)
Once you FXZ back to 2.3.5 you can just simply reroot, install A2 bootstrap and then perform a backup. I have done this several times and have never had any ill effects. Just make sure your backup is GOOD
To get rid of your errors now you must have to restore FXZ then update to 2.3.6 and restore CWM backup after that
To restore FXZ follow:

Yes, but getting the boot image will be a challenge, I think. Let me know if you run into an issue and I might be able to point you in the right direction.
The rest are east but, you HAVE to cat the device for each image, you can't dd it.
I would use the SAME xml file, just update the md5 sums.
The rest of the changes you already know.
I'm no expert at that kind of stuff by any means, but wouldn't it be easier to do if you FXZ your phone to 2.3.5 and then download the OTA. Don't install it right away and pull the update.zip and use that to make the 2.3.6 FXZ??

Nope, an ota is just basically linux patch files that are then applied to the apks and kernel and os files on your phone, it is not a whole new firmware that writes over the one on your phone.
Linux/UNIX patch:

Oh ok. That makes sense. I'm pretty much self teaching myself on this kind of stuff and I know that for instance the cheesecake stuff can be looked at and checked so I didn't know if an OTA update could be done the same way. Thanks for the link Jim.

the cheesecake stuff and otas are the same thing. you can tell some stuff by looking inside the zips. for example they often contain a build.prop, which lets us see if it is ics, or what has changed.
Okay, so here's a long story short. I flashed AT&T ICS leak #2 when I first got my replacement due to a brick. I ran SCV7 for a week or so and decided to try out CM10. I restored my backup of stock/rooted backup. Uninstalled highjacks, packages and app (bootmenu) itself. I then installed our OG A2 bootstrap, installed fine, installed CM10, played around with it for awhile. Realized I didnt reinstall the OG A2 Bootstrap so went ahead and did that. (without booting into recovery yet) I then later in the day decided to REBOOT my phone to only find me stuck on the CM10 boot animation. I battery pulled, plugged in to see if any recovery would show, none, just the battery charge percentage. I then battery pulled again, got into stock recovery, tried a data and cache wipe to no effect. My problem is, there is NO FXZ for the AT&T leak #2, I have no recovery besides stock and the only thing I can do is take my 32GB SD card out and add/delete files/everything. I saddly did not make a copy of the system.img but was wondering if anyone else possibly did? This would be greatly appreciated as I am stuck with a soft brick until then or a new FXZ to work with AT&T leak #2. Any suggestions or help is very much appreciated. Thanks all for reading and I'm praying for a miracle in my phone right about now lol!

Hey, and sort of welcome back...
But I hate to be the bearer of bad, bad news... you have a softbrick, and there is NOTHING you can do.
Next time, read everything in an OP... LOL, look who I am telling this to....
The CM10 installs come with their own CWM built in, and flashing bootstrap is what bootlooped you, so after you get another warranty replacement (yes, you HAVE to do this), I would install leak #1 ONLY, then flash cm10 with bootstrap, then do not reinstall any boot hijacks or CWM "like" recovery (bootmenu), because all you have to do it hit the vol down button right as you see the blue led flash during the M dual core logo.
Or enter the CM10 recovery menu and so on and so forth.
This is how I got out of a cm10 boot-loop.
I just restored from bootmenu backup via adb.

I will get with alteredlikeness and see if we can possibly think of something together on this one. The first thought would be to try an mearet/searet fxz for 2.3.6 since they can fxz back with out any mods to thier 2.3.6 or 2.3.5 fxz from thier ICS leaks, but I am thinking that will still brick you, but interested to see anyhow.
So I will see if alteredlikeness and I can think of some other way to try. He or I will PM you either way.

You know, I was seeing in recovery how youbcan flash an update through sd AND system which has a lost and found folder and recovery folder. Dont know if this is of any info but either way because I wouldnt know how to put anything in system since I cant seem to get adb to recognize or moto-fastboot...I'm in a very confused state of mind and almost came to the point of hard brick but I refuse. I'll leave it up to ya devs. Thanks againg everyone.

Yes you can use rsd lite to return to 100% stock and then try the ota..i recommend upgrading to leak 1 since you cant go back to gb if you update to ics ota

Just use the 2.3.6 FXZ through RSD lite. If you want good webtop then stay at 2.3.6, because webtop 3.0 is more like tablet mode and not ubuntu anymore.
Here is a link to get the 2.3.6 fxz:
http://sbf.droid-developers.org/edison/InlineFlashing_edison_5.5.175.25_cfc_p3_APBP.xml.zip
All of the FXZ files are here:
http://sbf.droid-developers.org/edison/list.php
If you really want to try ICS, then I would go for leak one from 2.3.6 just do not root or install anything while in 2.3.6.
Here are the instructions for that. Again though ICS does not have ubuntu for webtop, it is just android in tablet mode:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1779968
If you like the ubuntu webtop and want to stay on 2.3.6, my hack works really well for unlocking the full potential of ubuntu webtop, that is here:

What do you mean you replaced the boot image? please give me a link to the thread you go that from... that is quite disturbing.
What I need you to do is to flash the 2.3.6 fxz file with RSD lite, and watch each step and make sure you get a PASS at the end, if not you might be failing in one of the steps, I think there are like 18 steps or something in the AT&T FXZ. I really need to know which step it is failing on, it should be something like step 3/18 or something like that... I really need to know that or if it goes all the way to the end and say PASS.
If you can grab a screen shot of the error or PASS that might also help as well.

Yeah not the best idea. That ONLY should apply to NON-ATT phones, all you just did was put the 2.3.5 boot image on the 2.3.6 bad flash, you are still not whole. You may not be able to get this all right, after doing that, not easily at least... those instructions were out WAY before we had an official 2.3.6 FXZ, which is what you should be using.
I still need to know where RSD is failing, that is crucial to know what is happening.
From here on, if you want my help, DO NOT do anything unless I ask you to please!!! I am one the devs on this phone and our resident expert here. I am very meticulous, but I will get you back but you need to take this one step at a time, and do only what I ask and report back.

Yeah unfortunately you are screwed, sorry to say. The white LED means it is dead, no bringing it back. That is why I was trying to figure where things were going wrong, rather than having you risk further issues.
You might be able to find an atrix2 with a broken screen cheap on ebay and just put the good motherboard from that in your phone, and get yourself back up and running, I have seen them for 50-100 USD on ebay. There are instructions on how to replace the screen in the general section.

Hello, I am sorry if I am hijacking this thread but that is not my intention. I have a similar situation here that I need help with. I just bought a used Atrix 2 yesterday and I am unable to use that.
It is running the following:
Android Version: 2.3.5
System Version: 55.11.11.MB865.ATT.en.US
Build Number: 5.5.1-175_EDFFW1-11
It was in factory reset after mode so i followed the instruction to register with google and my gmail added. But when go to contacts, it keep rotating to open AT&T address book and never comes out of it. So I cannot use my google contacts and has to dial the numbers every time (sucks). Secondly, I called AT&T about the address book problem and was told that is not their problem and asked me to update the Android. I tried updating endlessly but the phone always says 'The software is upto date and no update is necessary!" really?
I called at&t again w/o much success. Then I called Motorola and was told that the phone is running a strange unofficial (really, again?) android version that they cannot help either.
I did confirm the phone is not rooted.
Now, I have a beautiful looking phone that i cannot use. I am not familiar with rooting and all sorta things and can you please help me so i can use this phone?
Thanks a ton.

You can use RSD lite to flash back to stock (ICS or JB) Read more here.
There's a few TWRP backups floating around... Not sure if anyone has uploaded any CWM backups...

RSD Lite won't allow me to flash anything but 4.1.2, it gives the error:
=
Code:
Flashed flashing process. 1/23 flash partition "gpt_main0.bin"-> Phone returned FAIL.
Long story short I am attempting to move carriers on a phone I bought off of ebay. To do that I need to "find" something.
Originally, I was rooted, unlocked and had CWM with an external backup.
I got stuck trying to RSD Lite back down to 4.0.4 and to RSD Lite back to stock 4.1.2. I'm thinking that I will get root again, install TWRP, create backup, TWRP back to ICS, get the thing I am looking for, TWRP back to 4.1.2, RSD Lite back to 4.1.2, reroot, install CWM and use an older CWM backup on my SD card to get back to the start. After that I plan to use an NV writer/reader and QPST to finish this.

You get that flash gpt error when trying to flash the JB FXZ image? Were you using the right one?
Either way, depending on where you are the legality of what you want to do is questionable and not welcome on XDA... Just FYI.

Yes, the stock FXZ 4.0.4 file in RSD Lite 6.1.5, gaah I hate that I can't post/edit for 5 minutes.
Hey, chrisngod posted the MSL reader in this very Photon Q forum. I'm not the first nor am I the last to move carriers. The only difference is I actually paid for the phone and I don't intend to sell it to anyone else. In terms of moral ground I don't think anyone here at xda should complain.

I see you're just going to attack my comment about you doing potentially illegal things.
nvram, qpst, etc... are questionably legal stuff, let's not argue about it.
You should be able to use the RSD Lite application to flash JB. If you are downgrading to ICS, there's some additional lines which you have to remove from the XML file.
Make sure you are using a new version of RSD (6.0+)

Theoretically wouldn't using TWRP to downgrade to ICS not require anything other than root?
Part of the problem is I cant post or edit for five minutes between each reply. That makes this discussion difficult.
I think in general my original question refers to something that is perfectly legal. It could easily be said that modifying the user experience of any computer product at all is illegal take for instance anything Apple. Up until 2012 it was commonly stated that even unlocking a phone could be illegal. Axiomatically anyone may legally program their legally owned phone. This is an entire forum dedicated to hacking/creating useability out of legally purchased merchandise. Consider the first thread in the general forum which is physically adding a sim card slot to the phone to able to change carriers at will. I think it's a tad bit silly to approach things thinking the user intends to something illegal or with malice.

My point is, don't discuss it. Drop it.
Use RSD to restore to stock JB. Enjoy.
Edit - you can restore any backups you find, and down/upgrade at will. If you find the backup for ICS, I think there is one for TWRP floating around.

Are you trying to get JB or ICS with RSD?
JB should work no problems. Downgrading to ICS, there's an additional set of lines to remove from the XML file. I'll try to dig them up and have Skrilax post it in his thread.
Good luck with TWRP.

gpt_main0 can't be downgraded. Remove its line from the 4.0.4 FXZ XML file so RSD Lite does not try to flash it. Then you should be able to flash the 4.0.4 FXZ over 4.1.2 on phone just fine.

It's already quite some time ago when I needed to do it (from JB to ICS via RSD Lite), so I don't remember the exact edits, but it worked fine for me in the end.
The simple general rule is - when there is an error, remove the related line from the XML file and try it again .

This worked. Thank you for your help. I guess this was a little more simple than I thought it would be. It also had an odd side effect of completely changing the programming and the MSL for anyone else remotely interested.
