Is it necessary to wipe battery stats when flashing a new kernel? If I don't, will the phone 'learn' and figure it out after a few cycles?

do you have to recalibrate your battery when you install a new rom? i'm not sure if that battery bin file gets overwritten or wiped on a clean install.
It is always good to wipe the battery stats after flashing a rom when the phone is 100% completely charged (ie. 0Ma going to battery). To do this you can use cmw under advanced, or root explorer data/system/ battery stats and delete the battery stat file.
If it makes you feel better have at it.....won't allow any more electrons to be crammed into your battery though.
Does it matter if I've already flashed the rom, lets say a few days ago?
Should I just charge up to a 100%, and then wipe stats in CWM?

Hi, i installed the new leeked gingerbread rom and for some reason the whole rom seems to be really slow/lag/freezes up and also seems to drain the battery life, is there a fix maybe for the battery drain?
Honestly, I've had better battery life with the rooted GB ROM than I did with Froyo. Did you SBF before you installed the GB ROM? The approach I took was
SBF
Factory reset
Re-root stock ROM
Bootstrap to CW recovery
Install GB ROM
One more factory reset.
Reboot after initial setup to resolve assorted issues

battery drain
You should consider following the steps from what the person before said. I have had GB since the day it was available and now am De-odexed and I have to say the battery life on this thing is great. Maybe you didn't clear everything by resetting data and cache before you flashed new GB version
Like others I have found that this GB leak is very fast and has great battery life. I was on Liberty v1.5 prior to the update.
One thing I found is that a factory reset from recovery is not as effective as a factory reset from the privacy menu under settings.
Here is how I got all the bugs out.
1. SBF to stock and factory reset from privacy menu under settings.
2. Root and Bootstrap, then reboot into recovery.
3. Factory reset from recovery, clear cache for good measure.
4. Install GB.
5. Factory reset from recovery.
6. Reboot
7. Skip account sign-in and perform final factory reset from privacy menu under settings.
By doing the final factory reset I got rid of all the little bugs like missing notification LED's and syncing issuse. I also noticed that some of the default settings were changed such as haptic feedback for the keyboard being enabled after flashing but disabled (as it should be) after factory reset.
ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh ic. yea i shoulda done a SBF, the only thing i did was clear cache,
THANK YOU!
for the sbf should i do 2.3.20?

Yes that is the correct SBF.
Battery life on D2 GB was better than liberty 1.5, however there was a known issue on 1.5 that caused some instability and massive battery draining. In comparison to the stock froyo builds with blur, the GB build is a massive improvement, however I'm still not seeing the same battery life I was seeing on Fission or UDRC2, no matter what tweaks I've performed on GB. Now running Liberty 2.0 after I goofed up my GB installation (playing with a theme broke some framework stuffage, restoring a recovery broke everything, no idea why) and my battery life is about double what I got on GB.
The blur framework and system files put a much heavier load on the system than what a stock system does, hence the reduced battery life. Tweaks to voltage, governor, and clock settings help, however it's not enough yet. Also, since all hardware is slightly different (due to production tolerances), please keep in mind that YMMV.
Another thing I found in GB is the stock battery mode settings. It works similar to the way Juice Defender works, and nearly doubles my battery life with the custom one I created. I realize older versions of Android had a similar battery mode setting, but it never seemed to do much before, at least for me.

Guys marosige has created a new battery calibration app that can be used to recalibrate the battery after flashing a rom. Here is the link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1024867
How is this useful? If I'm flashing a ROM I'm in recovery... where there is a handy little button that says "clear battery stats"... which is exactly what this app does.
Does wiping battery stats improve battery life?

you should be wiping batstats via recovery prior to flashing new roms!... comeon!.. and just charge your phone to 100%... use root explorer...data/system/batstat.....delete!..
don't need a prog, but i salute the idea!
i tried it and it works good...its suppose 2 save ppl from goin into recovery...just charge to 100% and push a button...simple
I got a atrix 2 a while ago with an extended battery. Later on he decided he wanted to get the standard battery. the battery never turned on and just got a battary with a question mark. so i went back to the extended battery and now this one is having the same problem. I need help asap.
BTW i already charged the battery by itself......

Let's start with some basic Q&A, shall we? What firmware version in the Atrix 2 running? Do you have CWM or another custom recovery installed? Have you tried a factory reset from stock recovery if no custom recovery has been installed? Have you tried wiping the battery stats with the custom recovery (if installed)? Was the extended battery working properly before switching to the 'standard battery', and was the 'standard battery' an OEM Motorola brand battery. or a knock-off?

Are you full wiping between flashes? If so and you're still getting problems you can try to flash a stock image via Odin and if the problem persists it may be a hardware problem.
