[Q] Is a native shortcut file makeable? - General Questions and Answers

Hi all,
I would like to know if i can create a folder shortcut in another folder. But not for the desktop at all(for that, no problems- lol). Like an .ink in windows; just create a small file which indicates a path access.
I explain : i have some music apps (musical creation)which requires data in their own folder (ex: /sdcard/electrum/samples or /sdcard/spc/samples or /sdcard/gstomper/samples... etc.) I have some data which i want to use with all these apps so i have to create a shortcut to my main data folder in all these locations.
Right now i'm stuck and the only way to work is to copy data as many times as the number of my music apps and it just overloads my SD.
Before posting, i searched a lot on the web, but unsuccessfully.
Thanx in advance.

Nobody knows?
I'm stuck with this issue...

[Q] SQLite DB Edit

Hi Folks,
is there a way to create a full dumpfile of the sqlite DB. Does anyone know where I can find the DB on the phone?
It's not the DB, but a lot of independent DB files. They are in the data directories of the apps that create and use them. So you can just copy the files.
If you install sqlite on your PC you can edit them with normal sql commands, but it would be a lot more comfortable to use something like sqlitebrowser: http://sqlitebrowser.sourceforge.net/ or sqliteman: http://sqliteman.sourceforge.net/
thanks for your information. The main problem is that I lost all the tracks which I recorded with "My Tracks" and I can't find them anymore. Do you know where I will find the data of this app?
I think they are in /data/data/com.google.android.maps.mytracks/databases/
To read them you will need root and some file explorer app.

Finding Specific Applications and Data

I am attempting to browse through stored data from installed applications on WP7. The apps seem to be saved as unique keys and not as names. Anyone know a way to find specific apps or link the apps to those keys so I know where I am looking.
look at the WMAppManifest.xml file in each directory.

[Q] Renaming Files and Folders

Hi all,
Loving my Optimus 3D but can't seem to work out how to rename files and folders. I know once you have taken a photo it gives you the option to Rename, but I was wondering how I could go back and rename photos and video files, and folders from before (without connecting to my computer). Anyone know?
Also can you create folders within the phone for content? And can you organize content in the Applications section, e.g. sorting Downloads in order or placing them in different categories.
Any help would be much appreciated
Cheers

To rename files and folders and create folders on your phone you'd have to have an explorer app that allows you to browse your filesystem. I'm not aware of any browser apps that don't require root (ie. Astro or Root Explorer) but then again, I've never had the need for one and always had my phones rooted.
You might wanna be carefull when renaming folders and files though.
I don't think the standard launcher allows changing the contents of the applications drawer.
Thanks for the response, appreciate it. At the risk of sounding like a total noob, what do you mean when you say having your phone rooted? I'm total new to smart phones and always just had an old simple mobile.
Also, is the Optimus 3D like the iPhone in that you need to hack it to install apps downloaded from your PC for free or can you install any apps via PC
get "estrongs file explorer". it's free and does many many many more amazing things than just letting you rename files without root requirement.

Rooting a phone basically gets you super access, kind of like having an administrator account on Windows. It comes in handy for example when you want to use custom roms, get complete file access, use screenshot tools etc.
And an Android phone is in no way an iPhone when it comes to installing apps. There's an option that when turned on allows the installation of apps you didn't get from the Market (it's in the Application section of your options menu). Presuming you only use free programs you downloaded you can just put the .apk file on your internal or external sd card and install it, either by using a file browser (such as the mentioned Estrong) to find the apk or using a separate app installer which you can download from the Market.
Awesome, thanks for the reply really appreciate it, and I actually understand it now.
So if I downloaded and installed an app or game from the internet for free, that usually had to be bought on the Android market or from Gameloft for example, could you get in trouble or banned/blocked in any way?
Sorry if this is a noob/inappropriate question
Cheers
no. google actiually lets you do what you want with your device.
Awesome, good to know. I'm really wanting the Gangstar games from gameloft but they aren't available to purchase via Gameloft yet. I can download the pirated versions and install them, but would Gameloft cause any problems when I did so or would I always have to play in airplane mode?
Most pirated software works just like the original version, just check if there's any installation instructions. The biggest disadvantage in my opinion is not being able to update pirated software through the Market.
You can use Polaris Office included in the phone as file explorer for all the naming, copying etc.. The name is a bit misleading
Nice, I didn't know that Polaris was a glorified file browser. Works great for viewing, editing and removing files and folders.
So, to the topicstarter, this is all you need to do the things you want. You can edit your filesystem and browse to your downloaded apps to install them (for example create a map called DownloadedApps, connect your phone to your pc, copy any downloaded apps to the map you created, disconnect, use Polaris to browse to the DownloadedApps map and click on any app you want to install).
If you want to rename a file or folder just long press on it and you'll be presented with all the options you need.
Yeah, I just had a play around with it, looks and works really good. Thanks for all the help folks much appreciated.
PS - If anyone could provide instructions and a link on how to install the Gangstar games (hereby showing me how to install ripped games at the same time) I would very much appreciate it. Been having no luck getting it to work

Trying to mess with Sygic to root or not to root

OK I started this thought in a thread regarding someones question with gps apps on android. I eventually got into trying to figure out how to get Sygic maps onto the SD card and not the internal storage.
In the Aura folder (since it's Sygic Aura) there are 3 folders (Android, Maps, and Res) Android I'm assuming contains app files, Maps containing well... maps, and res containing all the graphics for the app (voices, sounds etc) there are also 2 other files in the main Aura folder "base-is-ok.txt" which is a completely empty text file, and database.xml.
This database.xml is where I have been messing with the settings for where the app looks for it's files.
It's normal string is "Arua/Android/ or "Arua/Maps/
I tried setting this to either extStorage/SdCard/Aura and I also tried /mnt/sdcard2/Aura
Neither of these worked.
I was hoping a dev (since I am very new to the Android OS) would point me in the direction of the location of the sdcard as seen by android and whether or not I need to root my Tab plus to achieve what I am currently thinking about.
I did just find a settings file that points to locations such as MapPath=/.../Maps so I might continue messing with that.
same question
Hello,
I try to do the same thing without result, anybody can help ?
There must be something because when I put files on sd card everything work, when there is no file I got the sygic downloader and when I mess with the xml file, sygic open up then close
Thanks

[Q] Looking for an App

I want to use my Galaxy S3 to store all the data that I need for each production job that is running at the moment.
I have a directory that contains a sub-directory (named with the item number) for each possible job, containing the required information.
My problem is that there are hundreds of possible jobs and browsing the list of directories with a file manager takes ages.
What I am looking for is a layout of 20 icons or widgets that will alow me to open the directory for each job, and also allow me to easily
change that directory at the start of each day.
I have hunted for a way to do this and have had no luck so does anyone have any ideas how it can be done?
