Builtin Task killer - Samsung Infuse 4G

Infuse has a simple built-in task killer that only shows running/active apps. I want to install that on a different phone. Is there any app (or something similar) available in market? I don't want ATK.

Application Statup Manager

I need an app that will disable the startup of certain applications. (Not disable apps from starting during startup) Because when I open my task manager theres a bunch of apps that I almost never use or use like one a week and I don't want them hogging the ram. Most of the ones ive tried either doesn't include all the apps or only blocks apps the startup after boot. I just need an app, I already know how android works with its RAM.
Thanks.

The truth about task killers

As a general rule, task killers are ok to use as long as you understand the following things:
1. Never set your task killer program for auto kill and if you absolutely must auto kill something, never auto kill core processes, mail, messaging, DRM services, location services, or any other vital service for communication.
2. Make sure your task killer program is "meant" to run on your device. Make sure you look to make sure it's compatible with donut, eclair, or froyo... If you use Advance task killer (most popular one), there is a separate Advance task killer froyo version.
3. Task killers are meant to mass kill unwanted tasks from running so you don't have to manually go through and kill each one... they are not meant to optimize your phone... do not attempt to optimize your phone with a task killer
4. Task killers are not meant for the average android user. If you don't know what ADB, fastboot, acore process, build.prop, apk sdk, kernal flashing, bootloader, customer recovery or any other extremely simple acronyms or development activities (this is a beginner list) then that means you should not have a task killer on your android device.

[Q] Must have APPS?

What are some must have apps for our phone after being rooted and making phone quicker? Plz give details of what app will do if you post any and thanks.
I would love to see some replies to this as well! I think most people use advanced task killer to speed up their phones but hey we will learn maybe.
Speeding up Apps
I am convinced that task killers do not work as you might expect. The way that Android works with memory is that for most apps there is little use to killing an inactive task. Most apps don't leach memory in the phase where they are unused, and are deleted from memory after being unused the longest. If there is a sudden need for additional memory, the built in garbage collector in Android kills old processes, otherwise the app sits dormant in memory. If you want to start up that app again, the memory is just reactivated. Task killers just kill apps that are sitting dormant for no real reason--they don't gain you speed for certain. They MIGHT help if an app doesn't play properly with memory, but generally you won't notice an advantage to doing this, in fact things might slow down(you'll have to relaunch that app to use it again rather than reactivate it). The only "speed up" apps I use are:
Quick Settings--To quickly access commonly used dettings rather than digging through the list.
SetCPU--WHich allows you to overclock or underclock your CPU. In reality, I used this more to underclock than overclock(preferring battery to speed).
and Swiftkey X--Which speeds up your data input through its wicked cool prediction of what I want to type next. Other than that you have a Tegra II dual core beast. Its already fast. Find a good EXT4 based system(ext4 is the system's internal drive format...ext3 is the standard buil, but ext4 is faster(somewhat). Also use a good ROM and enjoy. How fast do you need it to be? I don't experience much lag at all with my phone.
setcpu for speed and improving battery life.
Autokiller memory optimizer (optimum is a good setting to start at), autorun manager, sd booster & juice plotter.
Those are good tools for performance, battery life and understanding how much time you have left. Depending on your preference, juice defender also. I love it, adds hours of life to my phone, but some people don't like it, all depends on your preference I guess.
I agree with gpmartinson also on task killers, their are tools to manage your phone without using such a raw and possible hurtful or annoying app.
Don't forget, their are many threads identical to this one also.
Eh, if your interested, here's a list of my apps: http://www.appbrain.com/user/bmann_420
I'm just posting this cause I like to see other peoples lists also (at least somewhat android educated users' lists) lol =)

Watchdog Task Manager works. If you set it up right, all it does is monitor, never autokills. If an app starts using excessive cpu cycles it alerts you. It is very useful in finding apps that kill your battery.

[Q] Task Manager

So with the OTA ICS update, I noticed that the stock task manager that was on gingerbread has been removed. Does anyone know why that is, and is it recommended to use any of the market task managers? The reason I ask is sometimes I forget to close things like maps or navigation, and I usually set it up to kill the task once my screen locks to save battery.
A common misconception is that apps run in the background forever; this is not true. If an app is using too much memory (which links to battery life) it’ll be killed by your phone. That’s why if you play a game, check a message, and come back the game is still running. It’s memory usage isn’t that high. However if you put your phone down, walk away for an hour, and the game is still trying to run in the background, there’s a good chance it will be closed before you come back. Separate task managers have to constantly be running in the background which can actually use more battery than it saves. Yes, task managers can use more battery than claim to save.
Long press the home button. Swipe left or right to close out an application. Or, if you're really concerned about this, under Settings -> Developer options, there is a setting under the APPS category called Don't keep activities. It says that selecting it will "destroy every activity as soon as the user leaves it." Also, you can limit your background processes there as well.

Just wanted to add, while the task manager has disappeared explicitly as an app, as Apex rightly pointed out ICS is more dynamic in it's task & app management since being a upgraded iteration of the Android OS. Also whilst the further useful tips what Apex has advised, bear in mind the swipe to end action will never show background processes & tasks, rather it shows only running main non system apps. Also since practically everyone makes use of a file manager like Astro you also have a task manager (which is an inbuilt function of the program) which you can make use of. Similarly Avast too has an inbuilt task manager. Also many apps have internal setting to disable feature of autostart while rebooting which you may want to look at. I kind of feel also a lot of apps have got work to do in terms of coming to speed with seamless ICS cohabitation until which point of time they misbehave at times.
A thing which I miss is, earlier when we used to hit the home button it would revert to the third home page out of the five and if pressed once again all the five home pages would float simultaneously but I believe this functionality has been discontinued now.

[APP][2.3+][MATERIAL]Material Taskiller

Task Manager or Material Taskiller
Task Killer is also known as Material Taskiller which is #1 task kill (manage) app. It is a tool to kill applications running.
-Ignore List
-Auto kill
It is an Advanced Task Killer and also called as task cleaner or process killer
Auto Task killer is often used to kill app and clean memory. We do suggest people use AutoKiller Memory manually kill apps instead of auto killing app.
1. How to use it (for new users to quick start)?
Auto Task killer is pretty simple. Open this tool and take a look at the running applications list? Uncheck some apps you don't want to kill (such as Advanced Task Killer and some system apps) Tap the button 'Kill selected apps', it will kill all applications checked.
2. How to use it (for new users to do more)?
If you don't want to kill any app, you can tap it on the running applications list. Then it's checking box will turn to gray.
3. Why there are app running that I haven't used or even opened?
Some app will start up once you turn on your phone or be invoked by some events.
4. What is ignore list/ignore?
Ignore list is for you to ignore some app you don't want to kill. If you long press on the app listed on the main screen of AutoKiller Memory, the menu will pop up, then you can select 'Ignore', the application would be moved to ignore list. When you tap 'Kill selected apps', it won't be killed any more.
5. Why I lost my network connection after I tap 'kill selected apps'?
This is because some apps related with network connection are killed, such as 'voicemail'. You can ignore it instead of killing it.
6. Why my Home reloaded?
This is because some apps related with Home are killed. Such as 'HTC Sense', 'Mail'(if it is integrated with Home). You can ignore it instead of killing it.
7. Why I cannot receive notification of Email?
This is because you killed 'Email'. Instead of killing it, you need to ignore it.
8. What is Auto Kill?
If you used to kill apps automatically
App killer is only a tool to kill apps and task. It won't help your battery directly. But if you kill any app which consumes battery a lot, you might think app killer is helping your battery.
Task Killer Pro is paid version which doesn't contain ads.https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=us.tools.taskiller
