Best screen protector for Desire Z (but also cheap :P) - G2 and Desire Z Accessories

Im planning to switch out my old stock screen protector that came with the phone as there are some scratches on the screen protector. Im wondering, which screen protector is the best for my phone as in durability and clarity and cheapness (under 15$). Also anti glare is not a feature i would need but it would help as long as there is no rainbow effect on the screen

I have a Skinomi screen protector and I love it. I got mine shipped to be for about 9 bucks. Use the coupon code skinomi25 for 25% off. Pretty much covers the shipping costs and tax.
I like the Skinomi because it is durable, easy to install and I can hardly tell it is installed on the phone. It retains the natural glass feel of the screen and doesn't affect the touchscreen at all.
The one thing I can advise is to use patience when installing it. You can reapply the protector as long as it is wet. It took me about three tries but once I got it placed perfectly, it looks fantastic.

I was just talking about this earlier... I would recommend ClearTouch Anti-Glare screen protectors (they have a "Crystal" version as well) by a company called Boxwave. I use the anti-glare version. It still looks brand new and I've been using it for over 6 months now. Screen visibility and sensitivity seem totally unaffected; no rainbow effect though the anti-glare is very mildly textured. The texture quality seems unnoticeable when the screen is lit. It's reasonably priced too.

the cheapest screen protector you can get is the household saran wrap
just kidding.
check ebay. there's alot for a really good price

Do you have a Screen Protector on your Nexus One?

Hello everyone. I know this has probably been a long debated thing. But I'm wondering what everyone here thinks.
Who all uses a Screen Protector like Zagg's Invisible Shield, BSE, BodyGuardz, or Clear Protector? I always have a HORRIBLE time installing them. Just tried again and it is not easy. I feel like I'd rather just go without. The screen looks and feels much better. I know the Droid has scratch resistant Gorilla Glass, but the N1 is something different. I've seen video's of it Not scratching at all during tests.. I'm worried that over time it will get little hairline scratches.
Thoughts?
Tried a few screen protectors. Hated them. I have some hairline scratches now which bothers me, BUT, the feel of the Nexus One is still irreplaceable in my personal opinion. For what it's worth, I am factoring in the low resale value of my N1 - as it is engraved with my name - and I feel that the potential value adjustment from the hairline scratches is marginal, as I really still love the look and feel of the fully exposed phone, and the hairline scratches are only visible in direct sunlight.
I hate the feel of screen protectors. but i also hate how the n1's glass feels in humid conditions (always, im from nyc) - youre finger simply doesnt slide. so i got dcmugens matte screen protector. It reduces the screen quality slighty, though everything is just as readable. but ur finger slides awesomely. also you get better visibilty in sunlight. and obviously the protection of a screen protector. i recommend.
i have a body guard. i bought it at the mall and they installed it for me. it felt like crap the first few days i played with it but now it's like i don't even know it's there.
I also use Body Guardz screen protector (just screen) I don't notice it and the surface isn't grippy like some screen protectors (invisible shield)
I can try scratching the protector and not leave marks, and its very clear.
Well I've had invisible shield and also Clear Protector.. Clear Protector are just like Zagg's but cheaper and have less orange peel look and slide better. they are on ebay..
I'm fine with using them, but the screen is amazing without one.
Who thinks the N1 is Safe to use without one?
Ive had 2 zagg protectors on mine. seems each time they install it, it end up sucking worse and worse each time, peeling, bubbles, etc etc. I like zagg because I dropped my mytouch and peeled the protector off and it was perfect. I decided to install my own zagg screen protector not going to lie the screen is awesome without it but I'd rather protect it after all the $$$$$ spent on it.
yea the job on my ipod touch, and my G1 was perfect, but I had the same Invisible shield stand by my house try twice on my N1 and it was a terrible job each time.
I have the official HTC Nexus One screen protector that is now carried in T-Mobile stores. With tax $16
using a $1 protector on my screen, saved it from 3 bad scratches so far
when it comes to screen protectors, the best ones come from china....and the cheaper the better. the ones sold here in the US are "rubbery" and your finger tends to "hang up" when sliding on the screen.
the china ones are also a cinch to put on.

and you've used those same ones. How is the durability. I've used cheaper ones that aren't invisible shield or similar brands, but they tend to get scratched much easier. Thats why I go back to the better ones.
Nope.
10 char.
Had a Hero for nearly a year without a screen protector. Carried loose in my pocket with keys etc and no scratches at all. I think we've been made paranoid after years of soft plastic resistive touchscreens.
No screen protector on the N1 for me.
None. I treat my phones like crap, and when its ready to die, Ill just get the next best thing.
I think its ridiculous how people put on screen protectors and large cases. It takes away the feeling of the phone.
I used to do the screen protector thing but when they started to peel or grab my finger, I diecided to not use them anymore. Been few months and my screen is good as the day I pulled it out of the box.
Edit: I do keep mine in the Google sleeve when its not in use.
poll please
I ordered the Tuneband to work out with and it came with a screen protector... went on super easy and its actually not too bad at all... i have no gripes with it at all
no need! this isn't an iphone... ive had this thing since launch and not a single scratch ANYWHERE... my iphone scratched the 2nd day I had it... got a new screen on it and scratched again... nexus is the most durable phone ive ever owned and I love that it doesn't need extra crap to protect it.

Which screen protectors?

Edit: Thread locked. Please see Recommend me some good screen protectors for further discussion.
I'm looking at getting some screen protectors for my Desire Z and wondered where/what people would recommend getting, are some better than others or are they all much the same?
They are all pretty much the same, however if you try to get them too cheap you may end up with a faulty batch that don't stick to your screen.
Look at any well known phone website to buy some, they are not expensive and usually come in packs of 6.
I recommend the Skinomi ones. It doesn't change the feel of the touchscreen like some others and is good with fingerprints and glare. When installed, you can't even tell you have a protector on. About $10 on Amazon.
Brando ultraclear.

10 $ no shipment untill 31 dec
The best for me, used them on all my previous phones...
Solid, doesn't change the feel of the screen, and barely noticeble when installed correctly.
Shipment from Hongkong to Belgium takes 5 working days
They are not all the same, IMO. The cheap ones will show fingerprints like crazy, and get scratched easier, so they don't last very long. This was the case with the cheapo screen protector that AT&T included with my trusty old Touch Pro 2/Tilt 2. It looked like crap after a month or two, and had to be replaced. Based on some recommendations by users on XDA, I bought some high quality ones from Boxwave (got the "Crystal" version, some mentioned the "Anti-Glare" was grainy feeling). Much more resistant to fingerprints/smudges. Have had the same one on that phone for 7-8 months and it still looks pretty good.
I liked the Boxwave protectors so much, that I ordered them for my new Desire Z. They are a little pricey at $13 each, or $28 for 3. I'm sure you can find comparable quality for somewhat less. But for me, I'd rather stick with a product I know is quality; rather than experiment with something new on something that may/may not be as good, just to save a few bucks. And the super cheap ones (the ones that cost a few dollars a piece) aren't even worth your time, in my opinion.
Zagg and Bodyguardz also seem very popular, highly praised by users here. But they are also on the expensive end.
I would go with the Skinomi screen protector..amazing quality and durable, they come with lifetime replacement warranty, just ordered mine and I got 25% off with coupon code get25 from their website..they come highly recommend by a lot of xda users

I'm using Martin Fields screen protectors for the Desire Z.
I've used them for all my other devices and I have no complaints. It even comes with a little protector for the camera lens too.
I recommend Skinomi too. The package they ship to you is very high quality, comes with a squirt bottle and a squeegee to push away the bubbles. The skin looks like the type that Zagg/BSE ships you, but the feel is so much better. It doesn't have that stickiness that Zagg products tend to have.
It's also very resilient to scratches; I've had it for 2-3 weeks and there are no scratches whatsoever on the screen, unlike the Clarivue antiglare I had for my N1.
Does anyone know if bell sells screen protectors for the desire z?

Does anyone know how important having screen protection is? I had a screen protector on my MotoMilestone forever, scratches all over it, looked like crap. pulled it off and decided not to use one, and didn't get any scratches after that. Are these screens not like a "gorilla glass" type screen?

They have self-healing technology so they won't get scratched up and ugly.
Best of all, they're free.
Mines been sticking like no other, no bubbles.
Just gotta make sure no bubbles are underneath when you lay it down.
If anyone wants, they can use this coupon (10% off) for realook screen protectors. I have them and they are incredible scratch resistant, feel great and look invisible.

The cheap screen protectors scratch really easily and look like garbage in no time, for sure. But get a good quality ones are very scratch resistant. I have had the same Boxwave protector on my old Tilt2 since May of this year (just upgraded to the Desire Z), and it still looks really good, just some light scratches.
I had the same thought as you with my old Kaiser/Tilt. The cheap screen protector that came with it got all scratched up, and I decided to go bareback. It seemed just fine for a while. But as the months wore on, I noticed faint scratches slowly building up. And one hasty travel day, I accidentally (and stupidly) threw my keys in the same pocket as the phone, and got a big gouge on the screen. Of course, a lot of this will depend on how you treat your phone, use a case, etc. But it just takes a one time mistake to get a bad scratch on the screen.
I don't think the Vision/G2/Desire Z uses Gorilla Glass. In any case, I just read on these forums that Gorilla Glass is very hard to break, but not really all that hard to scratch. There are reports by Samsung Galaxy S owners which have easily scratched the Gorilla Glass on their displays. If you do a search on these forums, you will find conflicting statements about whether the Desire Z display is scratch resistant or not. Couldn't really answer your question about how hard/easy it is to scratch the screen on the Desire Z. But I don't intend to find out the hard way.
There's a big thread about screen protectors at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=800638 , which was originally on the G2 side of things.
I ended up buying screen protector from tmo and its actually great and is unnoticable

[Q] Clarivue Screen Protector

Has anyone used these Clairvue Screen Protectors for the G2? If so, how are they and did you get the ultra-clear or anti-glare?
I have the ultra-clear one and it is so clear I can't tell it's there. It's easy to apply, Looks great, and feels almost exactly like the glass underneath it. You can't even tell it's there. I highly recommend them.

I've been looking for a decent quality static cling screen protector. This one sounds pretty good. Does anyone have the Anti-Glare one? How does it look? Does it darken the screen much? Does it keep finger prints off?

I believe all anti-glare films, regardless of the brand, will do that and also decrease the clarity of the screen. It's just how they work.
I bought Clarivue ultra clear the same time i ordered my otterbox, the otterbox screen protector was really good. But the Clarivue protector is amazing, install was not hard at all. I did an amazing job installing it no bubbles or lint at all. I showed the phone to my friend and he couldn't believe that i had a screen protector on. The cut is perfect covers the whole screen. When you install it make sure you put some tape on the edges, it will be easier to align the protector. i took pics of the phone with the screen protector on, i was just trying to show that no lint is present.
These protectors are awesome. No one could tell that I even have a screen protector on! They fit extremely well and feel exactly like the glass, unlike zagg or similar which gives you a rubbery feel and creates more friction than anything else (annoying as hell if you use swype). Highly recommend!
Been using them for years, love them, thats all I buy for my devices, thats the first thing I do when I get a new device is get the Clarivue screen protector.
Just ordered the Ultra Clear screen protector.
Free world wide shipping!
just orderd one to my mobile to, its so easy to put on in the video i saw. thx for the coupon 2
i recived mine today. its pretty good but the ****ing problem that annoys me is that its not exactly cut!! it doesnt cover the whole screen... is urs perfect fit or should i contact them?
i have the clarivue anti-glare and its decent but this is probably the second anti-glare ive ever bought for a phone so i don't have much experience with them. compared to the first one i bought from tmobile its definitely an upgrade... fingerprints are visible after a while and the screen is diminished a bit but overall i do like it. the cut isn't perfect as it doesn't cover certain areas completely but i mean its like a millimeter off.

I'm pretty satisfied with the ultra clear protector, so now i'm trying these out.
Dratz, I should have checked this forum before I bought mine, haha.

I'll let you guys know if its any good.
I,was waiting for HTC Desire Z screen protectors to hit the market because I can't order anything...
after 3 months of use my screen protector started to loose (mostly because of the dust i got between the display glass and the protector when i mounted it)
i have dropped keys and a heavy metallic cigarette lighter on my phone while i had my screen protector on and i noticed when removed it today that my screen looked as it did when my phone were brand new
Mounted the new protector today (since i got 2 when i ordered it) without getting any dust particles under it and it still looks brand new
Too bad the rest of my phone starts to look quite used

Best N4 Screen Protectors for under $10

I'm looking for Screen protectors for my N4, I've tried a couple from eBay and they didn't fit my screen properly but they were from China and not name brand. So I'm willing to spend a little more on a screen protector, preferably LCD glass. However all of the reviews that I see for N4 screen protectors, I read half good/ half bad reviews.
Can people suggest decent screen protectors that fit the N4 properly without causing sensor issues, for under $10
I imagine a good list would help others in the future as well.
I bought xtremeguard...
it has more silicon touch feeling and its applied with soap water.
I am very satisfied since it is very hard to get a scratch - its very durable and reusable if you get dirt under...
it costs around 6€ but you can get discount code for 90 % on the web ...
ismooth with lifetime replacement warranty. Keep in mind that not all dry application films will cover edge to edge, due to the curve glass. ISmooth is the only screen protectors I will buy. Very pleased with them.

I used halo, got them off amazon. They are dry, and don't cover the curved portion of the glass, but the cutouts are perfect and cause no sensor issues, about $6 shipped for 3, IIRC. They seem to be as durable as the boxwaves and clairvues that I used on past devices that were more expensive.
I use mpero screen protector, got it on eBay for 5 bucks.

I ordered a LCD glass (oleophobic and lyphobic) from a seller in China on eBay for $7.99. It didn't fit properly so it didn't seal so I had to keep trying to apply it and the adhesive went to crap right away. Had to ship back to China for replacement. Good way for a seller to get negative feedback.

Guys,
Just use eBay for these kind of products.
With time things change, and eBay constantly updates itself with those new products as sellers are the ones who sell those products.
So just use eBay to search for those kind of accessories and you would be fine.
I tried bestskins. Touch works perfectly, sensation is ok (not perfect, not as neat as glass sensation but ok), lasted nearly a year. Less than 10 bucks
try bestskinsever on google.

I would second this... Halo screen protectors are really good for the price. Some users report issues with them lifting on the edges where it curves but I have not seen this. Very clear, good touch response, and don't interfere with any sensors.

I just picked up a couple Nillkin/Redpepper tempered glass screen protectors off eBay for $6.50ea. Nice packaging (despite the spelling errors on the box), and sturdy, unlike the one I ordered from China and came shattered. Comes with rubbing alcohol pad and microfiber cloth. Took a long, hot shower, then left the water going and applied the screen protector without a speck of dust under it (humidity keeps lint/dust from circulating in the air). The protector is exactly the width of the LCD, which leaves plenty of room for cases that overlap the screen edges. There's adhesive across the whole glass, so dust won't get underneath, unlike the XGear Fantom 4. No issues with touch sensitivity.
I like the durability of XtremeGuard, but not so much the rubbery feel, nor the fact that putting any case on will push the edges up and cause peeling. The dry application ones feel better, but are less durable against scratching. This is the first time I've used a tempered glass protector, and I don't think I can ever go back to other types. Naked glass just feels so much better.
I'm satisfied with the N4 display, after quite a few phones which were Gorilla Glass but not so good. The last good screen was the Samsung Wave 3's OLED with Gorilla Glass 1, it was impossible to scratch. N4 continues the legacy, i've been using it without a screen protector for 6 months and there are no scratches.
And after applying exponential brightness mapping mode, the screen became a fusion of IPS & OLED, blacks are pitch black now
You won't need any screenprotector on this device I had my Nexus 4 for over a year now, not a single scratch on the display so far.
And yet I lifting lot of Europe pallett, pusing it to my body (and near my pocket.)
Tech Armor make fantastic protector for the sceen.
I personally suggest a matte foil, great thing, seriously. I use one from the 3mk company, if u can get one of those in your country - just buy it and u will be happy with it.

panel backlight mode which allows for a more controllable display brightness. some kernels have it and you need Synapse or Hellscore Manager app to turn it on
it allows you to set minimum brightness to very low, and improves black levels close to amoled. You must turn off auto brigtness because its made for LINEAR, not Exponential brightness mapping mode
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FfdsXqpnCEs
Left LEDs are Exponential - Right LEDs are Linear
Left is not as bright, but gives better contrast (better blacks)
If you have an OLED screen this is not benefitial for you and i think it only works for IPS

Tempered glass vs. plastic screen protector

I have been a long time user of the $10 3 pack of plastic film protectors you can get on amazon, they work fine however after a few months they get scratched, hold tons of fingerprints and need to be replaced. What I'm wondering is would a tempered glass screen protector necessarily have any better fingerprint resistance or scratch resistance vs the plastic or is the only real advantage the fact the the tempered glass will shatter if dropped and not your phones screen. I'm considering the zagg glass only because of the free replacement. I previously used their invisible shield on a nexus 7 and was not impressed at all but am willing to give them another try only because of the free replacement.
I've tried many plastic screen protectors and I used to have the same issue after a while they would track tons of fingerprints and wear down. I tried out the iLoome 8H Hardness Premium Screen Protector with Oleophobic Coating for the LG G2 and LG G3 and it's amazing. I feel like it helps against the fingerprints and scratches.
I was previously a hater of screen protectors (because of the plastic ones) until I realized how anal I could be over micro scratches on my actual screen. Once I noticed one, I bought a glass screen protector for the first time. Was the Caribu on Amazon. I failed to apply it correctly because it was a first time thing but I still loved the feel, thought it was great & left it on for a couple weeks. I ordered the Bepak tempered glass on eBay which ships from China. Lined it up perfect first try and the adhesive slowly migrated across my screen leaving no bubbles. It's smoother and resist fingerprints better than the naked glass. No scratches yet.
In short, tempered glass screen protectors are the only reason I can even say I like screen protectors.

I always used the lesser destructible protectors from zagg skins or clearcoat etc. With this device I decided I try out the zagg tempered glass and I don't think I would ever go back to any other screen protector. They give you added protection and are super clear! Definitely worth the extra investment
No matter what, I can never stay away from android for long.
Stay away from the Bodyguardz tempered glass screen protector. It has sensitivity issues. Hopefully AT&T takes mine back when the new one I ordered from Spigen gets here.
I have the XtremeGuard Spartan Tempered Glass screen protector. It feels like glass, it seems to be just as sensitive, and it's not cloudy like some matte screen protectors are. There are only 2 things wrong with it: the top-right corner refuses to adhere, and it normally costs $50. I got it during a 90% off sale so it cost me $5 (totally worth it), but there's no way I would ever spend more than $10 on this thing. $5 was about right.

Thankfully the sensitivity issue has gotten better with use. But it still messes up from time to time. I did get it 50% off, as well as my otter box case, so I guess I can't complain too much.
Side note: I'm not sure if I'm the only one that does this but I get the otter box defender and I actually pop out their "screen protector" and use a glass screen protector with it. Looks nice and feels protected

You are not the only one. I popped mine out too. Did the same on my S3.
I has the screen sensitivity issue when I first put the zagg on. I haven't noticed it lately however. Could be that I've just completely forgotten about it or it genuinely could have gotten better.
No matter what, I can never stay away from android for long.
Wanted to chime in that I am also having issues with the Bodyguardz tempered screen protector. Traded a s5 for the g3 (So happy I did) and I've noticed things will get selected when I'm trying to scroll. Then other times I have to select something multiple times to get it to work. Driving me nuts.
Zagg Tempered Glass
Figured I'd add my 2 cents I've had my Zagg glass on about a month and it has been absolutely flawless.. and like the video shows.. that sumbitch will not scratch. Its got those hard plastic covers beat by a mile. I'd swear by it.. Once you put on a Zagg glass protector.. you'll kick yourself for ever having messed with others.
Sensitivity : 10
Clarity : 10
Ease of application : 10
and its lifetime gauranteed ... will be on every phone I ever use from the g3 on out :good:
I bought ZeroLemon Tempered Glass and love it. Simple to install and feels great. Never going back plastic screen covers. For 8.99 plus .69 cents for S/H cant beat it.
Wanted to update, I went to best buy and bought the zagg glass one and it's great. Way better then the bodyguardz. No finicky screen issues and not as thick so cases fit just fine. I have to agree with dlbcell.
Zagg Glass +1
Just thought I would chime in and say the Zagg Glass is amazing and I would rec it to anyone. Just as a plus, show this at any bestbuy and you can get it for 22 bucks. Now that is worth it 100%. Would have gladly paid 40 bucks for it if I hadent found this.

I had the same issue with Bodyguards. At intermittent times parts of the touchscreen failed to respond to touch. Going to make a complaint and see if I can get my money back or at least a credit on my bill. I have since put on a Zagg Glass and have not noticed the issue...and it actually feels better for swyping.
I swear by Realook protectors. Sure, they're plastic, but they are the best fitting and best feeling I have found. Crystal clear and no orange peel or rubbery drag. I tried the Ziess glass cover on my g2 and could never get over the combination of the extra thickness at the edges and that cases either lifted it or eventually just plan broke it.
You have fingers, you will put prints on anything.
I'll never buy another plastic screen protector. Glass is the way to go..
Its like Cassette tapes vs CD's there's no contest...
I get mine of Amazon and pay between 5 and 10 dollars ..
