I just nvflashed cwm and flashed a already rooted rom. Just remember to backup your stock rom. Its not a must, but its good to have if u ever want to go back to stock with ease.

Thanks, i flashed CWM but ended up using MIUI ROM instead of the OTA GB 2.3.3, it's awesome
Is there a list of rooted ROMs? Specifically, is CM7 a rooted ROM? Don't kill me, this is my first attempt at rooting and flashing ROMs.

Yes, check the sticky at the top of the G2x Android Development thread. I currently use:
-CM7 (of course) - Flash RC1 if you are looking for stability
You may want to try:
-Gingerbread OTA 2.3.3 Rooted flashable zip v1.0.0 icon fixes
It's what you already have, but just rooted.
A super-one click style root would be great. I hate the built in apps and don't want to downgrade to 2.2 and root and install the rooted version of 2.3.3.

You don't really downgrade. In fact, you should do it this way to ensure you get the radio update.

Is it not possible to code a custom ROM so as to then flash it the same way an official ROM is flashed?

What do you mean "the official way"? RUU? PD98IMG.zip?

Hi. Thanks for the reply. What I mean is how an official ROM is flashed when an upgrade is issued. A notice is given that there is an upgrade and you download and install the upgrade. Can a custom ROM not be installed this way? Rather than having to go through the process of rooting the phone and then flashing one of the available custom ROMs. I would think it would be possible to issue a rooted ROM as an upgrade flash.
Wow. U must be truly a noob. The only way u can flash a custom rom is that u have to be rooted and have s off achieved first. And once u achieve that, you are talking about an over the air update. Which that only can happen from an unrooted totally stock phone. The only thing that comes close to that is an update from rom manager, in which u have to be rooted first before rom manager will work properly, which will download and install a custom rom of your choosing.
In other words, you have to be rooted and s off in order for u to do anything outside of stock

I think the OP was asking if its in anyway possible to flash a custom rom via RUU not OTA. In the same way that ROMS for Samsung devices can be cooked to flash via ODIN as opposed to CWM...

Is this the same KJ6 as leak used in Development section? So WiFi stays not on par as on KD1?
I hope not. At least they are releasing something official. Maybe in 89 days we can get source.

I guess before running official update with kies you have to disable/uninstall lagfix at minimum... This will convert file system back to rfs.
I went ahead and let mini kies do its thing.... yes, I odined the kj1 kernel right on top for the voodoo and it works.
sorry for the dumb question, but after upgrading to gb will super one click work to root, and can we just use odin to flash one of the existing custom gb roms without needing to root. im assuming this had the correct gb bootloaders we need. thanks for the help.

Official kies will take care about bootloader... regarding super one click - newest version has claims to be able to root Samsung gb.
or you can apply pre-rooted kernel as champ1919 did.

there wont be a 2.3.7 update. Only 1 device received 2.3.7 officially and that was the NS4G and that was to fix a WiMax issue.

After following suggestion in GPS thread it works pretty good. I did not tested that much yet, but so far I can tell that it locks on 7+ satellites quicker than is KD1.
So i recently got an galaxy s2 skyrocket and performed my first android root using the skyrocket easy root zergrush app.
I am running stock 2.3.5 and am on ATT . The only things i have done is install the COM, froze the tether, and un installed a few bloatware items
My question is...
How would i restore this to stock? Un root and all?
Also how would i install 2.3.6?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
2.3.6 got pulled, so you'd have to install a custom rom.

If you rooted using DoomLord's method, then use this.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18879974&postcount=146
For 2.3.6 I would flash Silver's zip for the rom. You will need CWM.

Fellow noob
So I'm fairly new to android as well, I would highly suggest taking a look this thread goes over rooting, kernals roms and going back to unroot...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1427268
Then a couple of the apps that have really helped me out are Titanium Back up and Rom Manager. Makes flashing roms very easy, between easily flashing CWM and rebooting into CWM with just a click. Then TB with it's auto backup's and being able to quickly restore when you've flashed that new rom. (I paid for both of these apps, so I'm not sure what features the free versions have)
I flashed to Silvers rom to get to 2.3.6 and it's working great, was very easy to do!
Anyways, hope this helps!
-Keith
Firstly, I would like to apologize if this information is elsewhere but I just wanted to get confirmation for this all in one place.
1) If I upgrade to the leaked ICS ROM will I retain root privileges.
2) If I do not retain root privileges can I re root my phone (I had this issue with the HTC aria upgrade to froyo because of the locked bootloader)
3) Is this ROM stable (or at least relatively so)
1) yes
2) doesn't apply becuz of 1
3) yes, i recommend superlite 5.1 or team perfection.
Correction: if you upgrade through Odin, you lose everything on your internal sdcard AND ROOT.

If you use the Odin leak (not very stable) use super one click or Odin cwm then flash superuser to get root.
Or do the easy way and flash one of the custom rooms that all are already rooted for you and have fixes.

correction correction. As long as he flashes one of the roms i suggested, I highly recommend superlite, he won't lose either. Plus the oneclick is unstable and buggy

So the leaked official one is not very stable correct? If I were to flash one of the custom ones would it have touchwiz and all the other official stuff

u want all the touchwiz stuff? Use superlite by mhx or stock revamped by team perfection. Im not a fan of touchwiz, and if: aren't either any other ics rom will do, in which case i recommend ics - the real thing by seanscreamz.
This entire thread could of been avoided, by just reading the Odin ics and root thread in the rom section. Close this thread

Hi!
I stumbled across this post and was wondering which option I should download if I want to flash to a FP8 Stock ROM from my Tweaked 3.2 (FP5) ROM.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=40766145
Is this possible? Or will I have to return to stock FP5 first?
I am using a Droid Charge on FP5 running Tweaked 3.2. I have Clockwork Mod, Superuser, Titanium Backup, and ROM Manager installed. If possible, I would like to be able to flash it using my ROM Manager.
I want to do this to prep for the impending Tweaked on FP8 (and to shut up those OTA update notifications).
http://www.elementalxdesigns.com/ec...lipse-Droid-Charge-FP8-progress-build-4-15-13
Thanks!
You should return to stock ep4 and work your way up through software updates. I think there are 3 in total now. We don't have a stock Odin for fp1 or later.
