So I purchased the Galaxy S 4g 1 month ago and while I like this phone I want to exchange it for the g2x. I just want to know if its possible, if anyone has tried exchanging their phone after the 14 days because this is my second unit and I am still having major battery issues. Ive tried everything from recalibrating the battery, putting the screen on the minimum brightmes+ screen filter, juice defender, going back to completely stock with no apps, etc and my battery life is still pretty terrible. After playing ONE hour of words with friends (bored and i just wanted to test) my phone goes from 100 to 20%. Words with friends isnt even a cpu heavy game and it took that much out of the battery? Its just unacceptable so I want to try out the g2x which from what I have read has amazing battery life for an android device. So if anyone can provide any advice on what can I do to exchange this phone I would greatly appreciate it. The earlier I change this phone the better. Sorry if this question has already been asked. Ive done a search and i didnt find anything.

Hi all,
My 6 days old Sensation (Vodafone contract UK) discharge a huge amount during Standby (200-350mA). I got the number via Battery Widget Pro 1.65. For the first few days I did deplete the battery fully before charging it to full. Today I have factory reset it to the original condition at around 4pm with 58% battery full. Now at 9pm, it is only 18%. During this time, I spent about 1 hour with the phone, the rest is standby. I set the widget to monitor with 1 minute interval and when looking at the log file, it can be seen that the phone consumed from 200-400mA during the standby time. Coming from HD2 with Android modded 3-8mA standby consumption, this is a huge huge dissapoinment!
Is this because of my battery or is this my phone? Should I ask for a replacement? What about you, did you see similar pattern?
Thanks,
Duong

Ditto!! So annoyed since I too am coming from HD2 where HyperDroid's consumption had dropped to a flat 2mA in standby. This is insane for a native android device. Not to mention the heating while playing games and most importantly, the front facing camera producing upside down image during fring video chats.. grrr!
Dunno what the cause OR solution is (besides switching over to a custom rom if and when the BL gets unlocked and people like pongster develop for this device)...
Overall, sexy device but disappointed with such major holes left unattended..
A little offtopic but was a battery related questions and did not wanna start a new thread so posting here -
Does anybody know of if there's any app which can get the battery percent to show in the top bar instead of the default indicator?
Thanks
EDIT: neva mind... found it... everybody's allwoed 1 dumb post once in a while

Any ideas on how I can do that? I tried using current widget but I guess because it's not rooted, current widget showed me a log of 0mA all throughout (yeah rite! hehe)
when I figure it out myself I'll let you know.
Current things I found that killed my battery over night: VTOK & Google Latitude
I went into Settings --> About Phone --> Battery --> Battery Use and checked, and it says display is eating most of my battery.
As far as mine, I get about 12 hours of battery life with standard usage, with the display eating most of the life, so if you're saying the screen is off, you might get different results...
over my 8h sleep battery dropped like 10%, nothing special (count in : wifi on, sync with gmail, weather) guys. new phone, fresh unoptimized kernel and radio. it'll get better. my prev phone (desire) was like sh*t at beginning in relating to its current spec rom ... and btw for checkin consuption : system panel (not lite), there is monitoring and u can see which apps running again if ya shoot them, check sync-s etc. many many thing to do, hard to tell in a single post

well it certainly sounds like a part of it is specimen issue.. here's my latest experience... last few times i have let it completely discharge and then charge back while the phone was off so i dont mess with it... once 100% charged, i switched the phone on and received a call.. a 25 minute conversation ate away 15% of my battery... LOL...
then, (now it gets better)... in 2 hrs of standby, the phone was at 60% which means it lost another 15% battery in 2 hrs of "standby".. im not sure if i can even call that state a "standby" anymore...
anyways... im wondering if its worth pinning hopes on rom development on our forum or should i just return this and go with something like nexus S which, O well, I can live with... atleast it has a 3300mA batterypack available... what's the use of kickass speeds and features if i have to use a phone like a desktop..
Hey, I have pretty bad battery drain during stand by as well I recommend trying to adjust the sync accounts, esp HTC hub and how often it updates that should improve it...I have a bunch of HTC widgets set up so im suspecting that being the reason for battery drain during stand by also adjust your email update setting accordingly. Every little bit helps!
Battery gauge stuck at 100%
Another one slightly off topic - but why start another battery thread.
It is the second day with my Sensation, and since I took the phone off the charger this morning, the battery gauge has been stuck at 100%. All other apps reading the battery status (e.g. Battery Widget) show the same number. I rebooted the phone multiple times, replaced the battery - nothing - permanent 100%. Has anyone had a similar experience? Did I get a perpetuum mobile ?
BTW the readings were fine yesterday.

Yes, the rating will go downhill pretty quick after that. Mine behaves in the same way.

Thanks for the pointer.. I will surely try that and see if it makes a difference..
That being said, call me crazy but it just occurs to me that HTC should be putting in some minimal efforts to check off basic quirks like battery consumption and QC. I mean all of us are spending a buttload of money on these devices year over year and then we rely on our devs here to give us basic functionality. Back in the days the reason people joined forums was to tweak devices.. Now it almost feels like we might as well expect only the hardware for the price we pay... disappointed!
Anywho...
I fully charged the phone before I went to bed last night. Eight hours later, the battery is at 10%. Is there something wrong with the battery?
Try using the Spare Parts app to see what's really using the battery in detail.
I just got a new battery for my phone from t-mobile and want to make sure to charge and break it in right from the start. I currently own a G2X and am a rookie when it comes to knowing about kernels, roms and etc (i have been studying little by little). I have a somewhat good understanding and have tried a couple things to get my battery life right. When I first got my G2X, I played with it right out of the box for about 5 minutes and the battery was at 30% from about 35%, then I only let it charge to about 80% and had to leave. I have ONLY had one good day of battery usage and that was after my first day of using setCPU & being rooted. It is currently rooted using the unlockr tutorial, "setCPU" from the market and have only one profile for "screen off" 216min-456max. I have read at least 70% of the battery threads about my phone already. I turn off gps, wi-fi and have screen brightness set to auto. Also I have deleted qik video, t-mobile account & all the other major bloatware that comes with the phone but still get bad battery life. If you guys want, I can post a picture of my juice plotter battery stats. Please help me out i'm looking to bring in my new battery the right way or fix my old one and have the new one as a spare.
hmmm.... did i not specify clear enough or what?
This has been covered in countless threads. You're battery life is not "unusual" Use the search Feature. Under the G2X general section there is a HUGE post on the second or third page about improving the G2X battery life.

hi all,
i know the battery life of the sensation isn't that great but I make 5 hours with about 1 hour of spotify (music streaming) some browsing and email checks. Also installed couple of apps but that's it.
(3g on when wifi not availible)
This just does not seem normal to me? Would like to hear your opinions.
running on:
stock battary
android revolution HD, feux kernel.
Wow, just 5 hours and your phone dies? That is AWFUL. Something is going on there, have you tried another rom?
maybe your rom is not very compatible with your radio? I am on InsertCoin (always latest) and I changed the energy mode from "maximum performance" to the middle option (don't know the name right now) and reactivated auto-sync and I can use the phone for 1.5 days on normal use. (so on gameplaying or benchmarking all the time) =)
Call HTC and have them to send you a new battery. You get one free replacement.just let them know that you're only 5 hours of life out of it.
Thanks for the replies all,
@KAwAtA,
i've only had stock and my current both ware equally ****ty.
@brandi,
I did flashed the radio that was mentioned with the android revolution ROM, do you have any suggestions?
@dunbar28205
Mabey your right, I'm starting to believe this isn't normal I did already purchase a mugen power 1950mah battery though. Will keep this updated with my findings on that one.
Is your governer on "performance"? Or is your second core somehow forced on?
battery works great for me im at 12 hours of run time and im around 50% left. check your rom and basic settings that kill battery. I also have an anker battery so that helps but really i think its the kernel and rom thats making all the difference

Maybe it helps... Sadly, one would think you get a functional device bought from the store, but all this technology is still a bit new and shiny, so it takes a lot of tinkering to get the most out of your device... It's what I've been doing with my phone for the last month, and it's a work in progress, but so far I've made some improvements
No solution works for everyone, as everyone uses their phone differently in a different environment... So all I can say is read my thread, keep reading XDA and the best of luck on your quest
P.S. That new battery will also help... I bought 2x Chichitec 1930mAh Evo 3D batteries and stuck them in my Sensation, although they are really just 1730mAh (false advertising, meh...or I just got a bad set of batteries?) I've seen a slight improvement over the stock battery
Damn man that sucks. I was having the same issue except I was average 10 hours with pandora usage, and moderate emails/txt/mms etc ....
I flashed the latest ARHD 3.6.7 XE. I followed the proper batter calebration thread on this forum (don't have the link) and after a full charge the next day, I average roughly 19 to 23 hours on a full charge. I'm still at a very moderate usage with pandora/streaming/mms/txt/blah blah blah you know the deal. I am extremely impressed. I'm on stock battery btw. I'm probably going to hook up that aweseom 1900mha battery from anker. I should be pulling over 24 hours no problem after that.
What I do also is when I initially set up ARHD I turn off fastboot in the power menu, I turn off "quiet ring on pick up", "pocket mode", and "flip for speaker" in the sound menu, and I ESPECIALLY turn off the automatic boot up of the task manager as task managers are useless from android 2.2+ and can cause conflicts that drain more battery. You can turn off boot up of task manager in the applications menu. That's pretty much it I don't know what else to say other than I'm doing awesome on stock battery atm.
Try a different kernel. I'm using bricked 1.5. First charge got me 14 hours so far at 31 percent. After the first charge run it to 5 percent and charge full. Rinse and repeat a total of three times and also don't forget to go into recovery and wipe battery stats.

I don't know about you guys, but there's so many threads on EVERYTHING, it's pretty damn hard to find some information on here
Oh well, now I'm just rambling... Enjoy
5 hours is really awful. Got 2 days with moderate use with the energy ROM. I would try to calibrate and maybe buy a anker 1900 mAh
What version of ARHD are you running on? 3.6.5 and 4.1.6 had battery issues..
Buy another battery, or ask for replacement. I had 5-8 hour battery life with my original stock battery on stock ROM, bought Anker battery on amazon, I get 40-50 hours now.

Thanks a ton! I checked it out but isn't it correct that when you flash a rom the battery is auto calibrated? Battery monitor widget Pro says my voltage is:
min 3386 max 4209. Does that give reason to calibrate the battery?
thanks again everyone for all the help
I used to suffer from this issue too. After doing some research I found out that the kernel is the problem.
Try Bricker 1.5 as Galaxa12 suggested and you should notice a massive improvement in terms of battery life.
Also do some digging in Daemon Controller (tip as others suggested: Governor).
Ofc battery calibration is important, but you won't archive better battery lifetime after calibration.
LET'S MAKE A BETTER BATTERY LIFE FUTURE FOR ALL
I thought I would start this thread for our phone. I have the AT&T HOX, but any carrier that uses the msm8960(Snapdragon S4 Dual Core
chip) should participate. Sorry Tegra 3, different chips different, battery concerns.
Basicly, I just wanted a place where everyone could
report there battery life, things there doing to get it(if good or bad), and fixes or ideas to increase battery life. This way everyone can
benefit from others knowlage and experiance.
I personally just got my HOX as a replacement for my broken SGSII, and as it is a
refurbished device, I am having a few concerns. One being that my battery life is horrible. Its been on average draining between 20
-30%/hr. So, at the advice of another member I got the better battery stats app and checked it out and found that HTCDm was the
process preventing my phone from going into deep sleep(better battery Stats has pretty good documentation as to how to use it, if you
choose to use this app just read the documentation. It is short but precise). Upon further investigation I found that that process was the
one that checks for firmware updates and throws the message about "there's an important update for your phone". I didn't want it
yet(because of the no root issue on 2.20 and I haven't unlocked yet because I want to make sure that everything is okay with this phone
before I void the warranty). I'm not sure what else HTCDm does besides the firmware update check, but I froze it anyway with TiB and it
drastically increased my battery life as my phone now properly goes into deep sleep. But all is not perfect yet, as my phone still
drains at about 20 – 30% per hour when the screen is on:crying:. I'm not sure if it is a battery issue and I am about to call AT&T right now
about it (it really sucks that they can't send me a new battery because it is not removable). But that is just me. If anyone has any
suggestions for me, I would love to hear them.
:fingers-crossed:SO EVERYONE PLEASE POST: :highfive:

ANYTHING ELSE YOU CAN THINK OF OR WISH TO LIST
P.S. You can Post more than 1 vote in the poll, 1 for normal use and 1 for heavy us. This should give us a good idea of the average battery life across all sorts of roms, kernels, setups, ect.
"TiB"?
Root and don't use a sense rom. Sense is okay, but it drains battery a lot (has been improved with 4.1 but still...). Also get rid of or freeze apps you don't use and/or don't need.
Oh and TiB stands for Titanium Backup I'm assuming.
I'm on 2.20 which I got new, and I disabled as much bloatware as I could. I can go a day from 100% in the morning to ~8:00 with 50% left. I use my phone for browsing XDA, texting, and playing a game or two. I consider it okay battery life, and I'm on stock! Trying flashing a different rom and see how the battery life goes.
We should do a poll with screen time instead.
Mine is 2-3Hr screen time (auto brightness) with heavy usage.
Total time on charge varies from 4 hours to 24 hours.
Already a thread exists for battery stats http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1612612

Hey rye-rye! Stopped reading after the second paragraph because I realized this is redundant B.S. but thanks for the incentive. We already have a battery stats thread.
OOPS!
Sorry that, Isert and could not find one nor did it find one I was creating this thread. I was actually just coming back, because I just got the chance, to update the OP post with a much more detailed breakdown of what I was expecting from the thread and also I was going to delete out all of the stuff about my replacement and yada yada yada because I managed to get all of that fixed and Done and not only that I was also going to post in detail my success story of how I went from 3 to 4 hours battery life to on average 9 hours with moderate use. And as of yesterday I set my all-time record with 6 hours and 5 min. to go from 100% down to 6% battery left. What's that you say? That's not very good for your all-time record! And you would be correct but I haven't told you yet that I was actually on the phone with the screen on using it to make phone calls surf the Internet on Wi-Fi and LTE as well as running various apps downloading new apps and checking them out. So in total the on-screen time was around 5 hours and 45 min. with about 15 min. of sleep. so is the official battery. The one that I just saw on the 1st page that says "battery stats XL", I believe? If so I'll just make my post in that one.
