when I go to "Check for software updates" it warns me with "connection failed caused by authentication error" Am I the only one getting this message when trying to update my g2x with gb 2.3.3(ota)? no custom rom, not rooted just pure factory froyo
I've got the same issue. I was rooted so I could freeze the crapware, but unfroze everything and then unrooted. My phone happens to be a replacement/refurbished phone, what about you?

this is my third one, and awkwardly all of them had the same error issue. I've talked to t-mobile reps in the past (and given that most dont know what their talking about) one of them told me that its due to no ota available yet. but when there is an ota,LIKE NOW, it still doesnt work! hmm any ideas?!

has anyone else found that there phone is no longer rooted after the AT&T JH7 update??? I noticed that the USB tether is no longer on the phone and went to use Barnacle Wifi Legacy and it told me that it only worked on a rooted phone. I checked BusyBox and indeed, the phone is no longer rooted. It looks like I have to start over. Has anyone seen any problems with re-rooting, lag fix or anything else after the update??

Samsung kies did the update for me when i plugged the phone into the computer. After it updated, it also broke my root and added all the att crapware again. I re rooted with no problems, and removed the bloatware. Phone is working great. I havnt really noticed any difference.

How did you do the update? I did it fine and root wasn't removed.

Has anyone updated with the Voodoo lagfix in place? I can always reflash the stock JF6 and then look for the update, but i am lazy.....
I updated through kies as well. Lost my root. used one click to root again and have had no issues.
I can't re-root! I want to re-root and install Unleash the Beast... I've downloaded it, renamed to update.zip... Put it in the internal SD, went into recovery and hit re-install packages and it no longer recognizes the update. I'm going nuts here trying to re-root... comes up... E:can't open /sdcard/update.zip (no such file or directory) Installation aborted ............... Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr... Help here..
That's odd. I did the OTA update by going into the system menu and selecting check for updates (I never installed the Kies software). I got the failed update message but the version showed it was JH7 after the restart, I'm still rooted and the bloatware did not reappear.
Also I never changed from the stock rom, I just rooted to get rid of the bloat and be able to sideload. I suspect those that did flash a new rom may have replaced the bloatware when they re-flashed to stock?
Hope this is helpful info for someone.

Hello all. I rooted my S3 on Verizon a few months back, but the method I used did not work so I ended up unrooting it and factory resetting it. After that, I noticed that when I went into my setting to check software updates, it freezes for about 4-5 secs and I receive a pop up that says "Unfortunately, SDM has stopped" and since then I cannot figure out how to fix it so I can get the updates. I am now currently rooted and on 4.1.2. Any and all help would be much appreciated, thanks!!

Anyone? I could really use the help here.
Do you have sdm froze in titanium back up? If so, UN freeze it.
If not. You may have factory reset and/or refresh your rom.

That's a negative, ghost rider. Titanium says it wasn't frozen, but I froze it and unfroze it anyways and still didn't fix it. Also did a factory reset when I first noticed the problem and today I re-installed the stock rom. Talked to verizon and all they could tell me is that I more than likely need a new phone since it's still under warranty. I mean if I can still get the update using Kies, that's fine. If not... then I might take it in.
Is it possible to uninstall the SDM.apk and reinstall it? If so, do you think that would fix the issue?
I don't know.

I used SHIELD RAM to reflash back to stock (was previously rooted on KitKat) which went fine but I can't convince the Shield to get any updates, it just says "Your system is up to date".
I tried doing a factory reset from Recovery Mode but still nothing. I wondered if something had gone wrong so I ran RAM again and did another full restore but am still having the same problem. Help?
I did reset erase all data in options and that appeared to fix the problem for me. What happened was the OTA update wouldn't download

Thanks eikast, I've just tried that too but the problem remains. If I go to Settings -> About Shield -> System Updates -> Check Now it simply says "Your system is up to date" even though it's running 4.3 (build no JSS15J.01.00.14422.0068)

What country are you in? If youre not in the united states it could be why. If you cant get it theres a couple methods to do it manually.

I'm in the UK. I managed to get some help from Josh at Nvidia and he reset the OTA flag their end and the update popped up instantly. It seems Nvidia add devices which have had the update (or think have had it) to a 'group' which can then prevent those devices seeing it again.

This has happened to me quite a few times... simply use it a few days, it will eventually tell you to update. Other than that, I've never gotten it to manually see the update.
Clearing the data for Google services worked for me.

Hello,
So I finally got the notification to download OTA Lollipop today, which I did. Problem is, when I went to install it, the phone restarted, an ERROR screen popped up. I restarted the phone, the update wasn't installed and now when I "Check for Updates" it says I'm up to date.
How can I install the update without side-loading it?

I had the exact same issue but it sounds like a good thing it didn't update from all the issues everyone keeps posting all over the net. Is your device rooted? OTA only works on completely stock devices I read somwhere.
I too ran into this problem. But before i returned my phone to stock i converted it to kali linux. At first i thought it was an encryption issue, so i restored my phone. I still received the error message.
To install kali linux i had to unlock the boot loader, then flash the software. I returned to stock by wiping, flashing stock, then locking the boot loader.
With Xposed not supporting 5.0 I am thinking of stating 4.4.4
I want to stay at 4.4.4. Can't get rid of the Update nag -- and I've tried everything.

I found my problem. My gps.conf file was edited by Faster GPS. I forgot to revert before the OTA and thus my error occurred. I hope this helps.
I'm still getting the same issue after supposed install:
I've had the OTA notification for a while but it won't install. It downloads and then when it does the reboot I see it trying to update then I get the 'Red Triangle'. It reboots again back to 4.4.4
Phone was rooted but still using the stock ROM so I did a factory restore, I'm still getting the same issue.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance

I have just noticed my G3 is taking the ota without asking for my approval. How can I stop it from doing it again? Thanks in advance.
Secret Menu
I went to the dialer keypad and typed in 3845#*850#, the 850 is my model number. Change it to your model # and secret menu will appear. Tap on WLAN settings and it will show OTA updates and pick disable. That's it. Worked for me.
Did that but the phone will still try to install. The reason I know is because my phone will be boot looping in twrp. At first I thought I did something crazy until this morning I saw a message saying phone will install update and will reboot in 10 seconds. Good thing is that I have the boot loop fix zip file in my sdcard.
I kept having this happen to me as well, even after disabling the option in the secret menu. I ended up installing the 855 minus 5 ROM.
I actually had that happen as well. My whole system was gone and stuck in twrp. I downloaded the copy of the 10f stock file and the zip fix file. Thought everything was good, then the update popped up again in the notifation bar, so I made a backup in twrp and tried disabling notifications. The next morning it started to auto install and it failed. Stuck in twrp again, ran my backup then disabled notifications again. Haven't seen the update again in the notifications. Hopefully it won't come back.
Using TiBu, I disabled/froze com.leg.lgfota.permission and Software Update and I have not had any issues.

So I tried Titanium Backup. Couldn't figure out how to do it. I also noticed I couldn't send or receive MMS pics. Did some searching and on Google Play, there is an app called Disable Service. Download the app, open it, click on system at the top, scroll down to Google Play Services and click on it. Scroll down to SystemUpdateService and uncheck the box. I also went down to software update and unchecked all 3 of those boxes. Restart your phone and you're done. I also re enabled the setting in the secret menu. Now my pics come through again and the update disappeared when I restarted the phone.
Can the OTA be undone?

This may be a dumb question but I had something similar happen and I'm desperately looking for a way to reverse things. My D850 was rooted, still stock but tweaked to PERFECTION, and I was under the false impression that the OTA checked for root and wouldn't proceed, so when I got the notification that the update was available I dismissed it and didn't think about it. Next morning I woke up to find the OTA happened without any action from me and of course I lost root. The phone is now really sluggish with numerous nuisances and I hate it. AT&T really f'd up my perfect G3. I chose not to factory reset or clear the cache as some have suggested to improve performance. I guess I was hoping that with everything still installed there might be some hope to regain root.
I'm reading about people going back back and flashing zip files but I don't get how it's being done. I did not have a custom recovery installed but I did have a backup with Titanium, although I obviously can't get into that now without root. The really odd thing is that Softcard still thinks it's rooted and won't run. Anybody have any ideas?
Thanks,
...Joe K.

I'm afraid you wont be able to go back to rooted kitkat without having to clean install as there is no root for Lollipop yet.

I have NOT received a single nag or download for OTA. I have had these frozen for over two months without seeing any issues in the phone's operations. In fact I waited 10 days after the 10f was released before installing and had no issues.
