Who uses FlexT9? - HTC Sensation

I just wanted to ask people what they think of FlexT9 on their Sensations. I am currently using Swiftkey X and really like it, but I am getting a little itchy and want to try new things. Unfortunately the 15 minute refund period is annoying me somewhat as it means it's impossible to properly test the app.

Its really good, but there's 2 things that makes me use SlideIT instead. No user dictionary, and I can't change the hold down duration to get to the symbols behind the letters.

I got it when it was the Amazon free app of the day. I dig it it swyping feature over the default keyboard, and the layout works for me.
Tried using swiftkey, but it was not for me.

I use it and love it.

it has dictionary and you can change the symbol by holding the letter.
is the best keyboard yet for android I have in English and Spanish, fast swype, draw, type, and speak, it uses Dragron so is a good voice recognizer. (handy when using ur hands)
always try the last version or one before

i'm using swype...felt that FlexT9's buttons were a little small and the trace pattern was too thick lol. Could never get used to how FlexT9 kept repeating a word when i pressed the "back" button. Maybe I just didn't know how to use it properly haha

Swype is truly one of the best keyboards i've ever used.

When I first saw the Samsung commercial using the Swype keyboard, I've always wondered how the hell does that thing work. It seemed more difficult to use and wouldn't want an oily smudgy screen since you drag your fingers. Today is the first time i've used it and man, i think i can type a book with this, lol.... I started texting my friends just cuz I want to type more. Now the only problem is, sometimes my finger doesn't smoothly drag as I want it to be. I guess i'll start looking for screen protectors that are smooth to the touch. What do you guys think of Swype?
I definitely love it and I too texted people just to play around with it haha.
It's the best thing ever invented
I love swype. I use it all the time. When I show people, they think it is the coolest thing ever.
Agreed...

Noobie to Android. Just got my Captivate today. How do you enable Swype or How do you install it?
thanks in advance
On the home screen hit the soft capacitive menu key > Settings > Local and Text > Set default keyboard > Change it to Swype.
I'm posting from swype just to type more lol

Thank you! This is awesome!
I may be the odd one out, but I have to disagree. Swype was nothing but a gimmick to me. It's nice, and if you really suck at typing on a virtual keyboard, then sure, it may be helpful, but I can type much faster by hitting each letter than drawing shapes to spell my words.
Now all I need to do is get used to a keyboard on Android. Coming from an iPhone, I'm a bit spoiled, but mainly just used to that keyboard. I'm quickly getting as fast on whatever Android keyboard I choose (trying Swiftkey now).
That's not to take anything away from Swype. It's a very cool keyboard, but I find that too often my missed letters mean redoing the whole word instead of a single backspace and continuing.
To each their own but I find find Swype amazing, it definitely made transitioning from a physical keyboard easier for me. I probably could be a little faster typing in landscape with two hands but since I've started using swype I just type one handed in portrait mode. I really am enjoying writing this reply right now, but I should stop rambling and get ready for work...

I have to agree. Swype us such an amazing thing. I absolutely love it. I cab text and just about the same speed with swype than I can with a physical keyboard or a virtual one. Its great for typing portrait. Not so great landscape.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Swype is fast...
Even if it is EQUAL the speed, I find it easier. You don't really even have to look at the keyboard and you can totally botch the keys and it still works.
It is easy but you have to remember how to spell =)

Swype for XOOM??

I know there were some grumblings about Swype on the XOOM around release time and the team at Swype haven't returned any emails so I come to my community.
Is there any word on the XOOM getting Swype? Soon? Ever?
Anyone have a way of hacking it on? I've tried but keep getting the error "Screen resolution not supported".
Have you tried installing the beta?
http://beta.swype.com
Sent from my Xoom using XDA Premium App
Last i checked the beta didn't work on the xoom, that was the day i got my xoom too, so not sure if a new beta has been released since, but i also heard that swype had no intentions of making a swype version for the large tablets (keeping to the 7" of the galaxy tab) but those could have been hear say, just lending my 2 cents! I'd love to see a mini-swype that takes ups just one side of the screen and you use one thumb, that'd be sweet...
Still not working on the Xoom, but last I read on their forum they still intended to make it work for us.
Just go to themes and apps in this sub forum and you'll find thumb beta. It works pretty flawlessly for a beta
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA Premium App
I just tried loading it few minutes ago. No dice. But I downloaded Thumb Keyboard last night and it is a massive improvement overall the stock keyboard. I love that it splits for thumb use in landscape mode and that a long press allows numbers and symbols on the main board without needing to jump back and forth boards like on the stock.
I figure if they can't get to market, there's always the competition.
I use SlideIt. I like swype better, but it's not a bad option. It's not free though, but pretty cheap.
Thanks for all the good info! Looking into it now.....

I have both swiftkey and thumb keyboard. They're basically the same concept but I find it easier to type on the thumb keyboard thanks to its responsiveness and functionalities. Nevertheless, swiftkey interface is tron like which is wohoo nice. Though it still has more bugs to ve worked out than as of thumb keyboard

Phone keyboards won't fit very well on a bigger screen. I be tried smart keyboard too. The keys are squished down to the bottom of the screen and are longer.
I doubt that flext9 will work. But still 4.99 is still a bit too much for testing lol

Actually I'm using the flext9 keyboard on my Xoom to type this...
It does work Swype style, but not sure if typing is faster or swiping.
I guess it depends if you are using two hands or one to type. In portrait it seems better to swipe but not necessarily in landscape, if you have the tablet on the desk.
After 15 minutes of use I decided to keep it and still using it as my default keyboard so it can't be bad
I like the word prediction bar and the long press for punctuation... haven't tried the voice or handwriting recognition though.

keyboard for our tiny screen

I have tried a ton of keyboards and I just can't seem to find anything that is useful with our skinny little screen. I dislike the non-configurationablism of the stock keyboard.
Anyone have a preference? I'm not big on sliding keyboards. I have slideit full version, but dislike it as well. I dislike prediction and prefer double-touch enabled keyboards.
Any recommendations?
Tried:
Stock (heh)
Go Keyboard
Swiftkey X (Phone)
Thumb Keyboard
slideit
better keyboard 8
probably others I'm not remembering
Have you tried thumb keyboard? You can adjust pretty much anything including keyboard dimensions and layout.
I use it on both my xoom and sensation. Its great!

yeah I bought it and use it on my tablet. I will give it a shot right now.
Yeah.. I stopped using that one because it is not multi-touch. The creator of that app told me he will be releasing a multi-touch version later.
I type too fast for a single touch display. often one finger will not fully lift before another drops down and it causes me to miss very often.
Better keyboard is great in that respect, but is lacking the features of thumb keyboard.
Just tried go keyboard for the first time. It's pretty good but it's multitouch works differently than better keyboard 8. If you press F and then press U before F is released on BK8, it puts the U in on keydown but if you do the same with GO it puts the U in when the F lifts.
My top favorites are SwiftKey and A.I. Keyboard..they work great for me!

bought swiftkey X (phone). Not sure I will like it, but I'm going to play with it some more later to see if I can tweak it out. Looks very nice for prediction junkies though. pretty nice.
I'm going to see if I can get into prediction typing.
May I recommend GO Keyborad??
To me its just the perfect size and have the keyboard theme set to white which compliments alot of pages I visit and the pressed color to it is also nice....... Lime in color!!
Also I would suggest editing your OP with a listing so at least folks know what you have used ;-) food for thought

Yeah listing would have been a good idea. I just couldn't remember off the top of my head and didn't have my phone handy.
I tried GO. it's decent. I want better! '
I think I'm just going to be hosed because the width of the keys are too small for my fat fingers when used with this small screen in portrait.
Maybe I will just be stuck in landscape and double thumbing.
Best keyboard imo is swype. You can't get it on the market for now but you can register on beta.swype.com it works like a charme! You may need 2-3 days but then you will be definitely faster than typing.

I'm the developer of Thumb Keyboard. I stumbled upon this thread because I have a Sensation myself (love it btw).
Thumb Keyboard 4.x is already multi-touch.
If there are any suggestions to improve the keyboard let me know. I already built in an option to resize the font, because the high resolution of the qHD display will reduce the size of the font (which is great in the case of some other apps btw). Any other suggestions/requests for the sensation display are very welcome.
Btw an update will be released this weekend or begin next week with, amongst others, a split keyboard with cursor keys. Works great on the Sensation. But that's my very biased opinion. Also it will be packed with a ton of downloadable high Res themes.
try smart keyboard...its amazing and full of options to costumize...im using this keyboard since my first android phone
You can always give 8pen a go. Who knows? Maybe you'll be the one that fully masters it. I'm also waiting on the beta of Touchpal Curve Input to be released. You can find a few videos of it on YouTube.

+1 for smart keyboard, has arrow keys configurable to be on the main screen, key size customization and a bunch more. I regret it does not have copy paste commands, afaik.

Ultra Keyboard if you haven't already tried it.
FlexT9? I think is double touch. It's basically a combo of swype and dictation. Also you can actually write your letters out a la Sony Clie days lol. Pretty much a jack of all trades but does not do one particularly well, but gets the job done. The Dragon software is pretty spot on for me.

Agreed! i am so used to speeding through my texts now that i pretty much only use the gingerbread kb mainly because of the multi touch but i have grown very fond of thumb keyboard
swype all the way !

A. I. Keyboard

I have used swype, swiftkey, t9, better keyboard, even that ridiculous rotary keyboard.
I am a keyboard geek (among other flavors of geek).
I gotta say, A.I. Type keyboard (https://market.android.com/details?id=com.aitype.android) is simply amazing.
It seems smarter than swiftkey and is completely customizable. (Background images, colors, layout, even keyboard type (iphone, windows 7, gingerbread among others).

I have to admit to being a keyboard whore. I have since early 2009 bought almost every keyboard out. I have better keyboard, perfect keyboard, smart keyboard, swiftkey long before it became the X version. I had been using Swiftkey until a few days ago when I tried the latest version of Go Keyboard. The predictions aren't as psychic as swiftkey, but the keying on Go Keyboard is much more accurate for me so I have to depend on correction and prediction a lot less. And, the correction is VERY accurate. As far as the keyboard in the OP, it looks like another gingerbread recompile. What makes it stand out from the crowd?

I love that it has themes and different sounds for space, tap, accept. However it doesn't do autotext which I cant function without now nor does it correct conjunctions and the comma is a pain. Promising tho
Loving it so far ..def promising ...

So far it seems decent. Predictions are good (for both what's currently being typed, as well as guessing the next word) and I like the how the long-press for period brings up the sub-menu of common punctuation keys.
In spite of it not being perfect, AI is certainly a beautiful piece of work.
I have been using it from ages......!!
The best undoubtedly among all

keyboard alternative to stock sense 4.0?

just updated my sensation to sense 4.0. am not really a big fan of the new keyboard with the directional arrows below. i don't really see an option to remove the arrows or an arrow-less version and i make too many mistakes with the default ICS keyboard. can anyone recommend me a good keyboard to use?
thanks!
Smart Keyboard Pro. Hands down the best keyboard I've ever used. That, or the Swype beta.
Also interested in this.
I got a little fed up with swype typos. seemed like it didn't take grammar into account.
I'm a very fast, but sloppy typist.
Ultimate death of me: V or B instead of the spacebar, rendering typo correction useless and throwing it off.
Having some fun with swiftkey x though. I'll take a look at smart kb pro.

Swiftkey X - Been my keyboard of choice since my Desire days.
it quickly learns keyboard and language usage and prompts the next most likely word. Saves ages when typing "Just got to the station see you soon XXX" type stuff. All I type is Just and the rest is prompted for me (with a few options and variations)

Best damn thing I've ever typed with. Really helps out.
My issue with Swiftkey X was that I'm just too sloppy.
Thumb Keyboard helps that from what I gather. Bigger keys = less typos = more accurate predictions.
How the hell have I not been using this before. Wtf.
Swiftkey is nice unless you have to type in different languages ! (In my case it's Spanish, Catalan and English :S). If your case is like mine go after SmartKeyboard, has a button to switch between dictionaries easily and you can personalize the space bar to make it way bigger (my main problem was clicking , or . instead of space ALL the time U_U)
Luck there

Same here - on pretty much every keyboard for some reason I'd always hit CVBN instead of space. Split Portrait Compact mode on Thumb Keyboard has pretty much solved that issue.
