Only way I know right now is through a custom ROM. I think all of them changes it.

I think he's talking about the screen before bootanimation - Where it just says Samsung.

Trita629 is correct I am talking about the screen before boot animation

if it is I the kernel then yes but you need to compile your own kernel, not really sure where it is but I'm sure somebody could figure it out. if it is in the param.ifs then dagr8 in the captivate section had a way to do this, it doesn't look easy but maybe he'd be willing to work with someone on this. he had a Chinese i9088 rom ported to the captivate with the two splash screens replaced and the boot animation with one that matched the splash screens and the live wallpaper. the boot sequence was almost seemless. it gave the rom a definite cool factor that the others didn't have even if the theme was kinda ugly and the boot process took forever with the included kernel.
the splash might also have to do with bootloaders. on 2.3.3 on the captivates the i9000 bootloaders will give you a i9000 splash screen before the param.ifs and kernel splash screens.
the captivate had a lot on animations and splash screens. luckily this phone does not.

I was a HUGE collaborator of that with dagr8 on this one... the biggest issue though would be if you get a bad param.lfs on there, you HARD brick the device into the land of no return.... I would flash another pararam.lfs on here, but I'm not willing to risk it....

Ok. This is the deal, I have modified a param.lfs a couple weeks ago for the Infuse. It is tested and works. It uses the mobiletech batch, modified a lil. I was going to up it as a package for everyone after asking all before me I learned/read from for their permission BUT ......
...... The Samsung screen you are asking about is in the kernel. The Infuse appears to have a blank(skips) boot screen. Modifying it is successful but you will then have 3 screens... Boot,kernel,animation....
Honestly, with a blank boot I'd just leave it alone. As far as the Samsung screen... It is compiled with kernel... So a Dev would need to do it or you can grab their sources, modify and compile yourself.
IF anyone wants the package I will upload it tomorrow morning. Its just been sitting.
....now if the boot orders and pics change for GB ... I'll do that up as well.
Sent from a device powered by hamsters.

So, I'm awake ... lol
Working param.lfs boot screen replace/add. Note- THIS ADDS a Screen - it does not remove the SAMSUNG screen in the kernel.
I'm just gonna leave this here. I take absolutely no credit for this, with the exception of time spent playing with the hex editor. I take no responsibility for damage to your device, use at own risk. Though, I'm sure I or someone else here would be more than happy to help if problems were encountered.
This param.lfs is a modified version of the stock Infuse param.lfs.

***My included pic is just a quick proof, By all means use any pic you like. 2 requirements are keep size down (64kb) if you can and it must be named "logo_I997.jpg" < no quotes.
*The Instructions in the video are how it needs to be done. See the purple star above
~tl;dw
Requires Rooted device
-DL package and unrar
-Change pic in Testing ADB batch folder to one of your choosing(or not ...lol)
-Reboot into DL mode(the digger)
-Open ODIN, Infuse_Boot_Froyo_param_lfs.tar goes in PDA slot ( verify re-Partition IS NOT checked.
-Connect phone to pc, verify comm.
-Hit start to flash, on success disconnect phone from pc
-Phone reboots (may have garbled screen, normal)
-Set screen time off to 10min. (this is temporary) and USB debugging is ticked.
-connect phone to pc, run batch (Infuse_froyo_boot_screen.bat) the jpg in the folder is now pushed to your /mnt/lfs folder.
- ^ During this you may be asked for super user permissions up to 2 times(On The Phone). This is why the screen timeout change. If you miss it or are to slow you can just run the bat again.
-Reboot... success????
-Change your screen timeout back to normal setting
tl;dr >see the Cyan star above
I attached the logo pic only for a visual, it is included in the rar.
If your phone starts smokin' the crack or you have second thoughts on your sexxy screen, I am attaching the Orig param.lfs also. Flash through Odin , yada, yada, yada

If you install my Bionic Kernel you would see not only is it very easy to do, but awesome! I kernel developer by the name of Morfic(Team Whiskey) even made scrips to do it from GImp.
If you go to his gitub profile , search via Google , you can download it.
You make your image in gimp ( 480x800 , C++ Header file and 24bit ) , save it , run it through this script , then place it in your kernel source and compile. Thats it. Easy as pie.

is that the one from reefermatness?
anyway this thread started as a question that probably doesnt belong here and ended up as informative, very cool, i hope to see fully themed roms from the bootloader splash to the param.ifs and kernel to the boot ani to the wallpapper when gingerbread come out. maybe we can make one or two splash screens blank, not sure how that works with the 2.3.3 bootloaders. i know the bootloaders have had the image changed in the vibrant section, maybe we can make that blank.

Bootloader Image
If the i997 has been updated to Gingerbread would this technique still work? I know when we updated the Cappy over to the GB bootloaders there was a different load we had to do because it used a different block for the image file on the updated bootloaders. Does the same apply here. Thanks in advance for any updates!

I am running GB 2.3.6 myself and was wondering if find a solution for this? I was reading about the Captivate model from http://www.mmacleod.ca/blog/2011/01/removing-the-att-boot-screen-from-a-samsung-captivate/
I understand the params.lfs would most likely be different.
I did find the /mnt/.lfs/logo_ATNT.jpg which for my phone has the ROGERS logo that is displayed upon booting the device (though I don't see this directory on my rooted and unlocked ROGERS Captivate Glide which has the same ROGERS logo upon booting the device).
I know it seems trivial to some but this is the only thing that ruins an otherwise nice phone (since they do not put the ROGERS logo anywhere on the case) and the same issue for the Captivate Glide (yes, I know, another forum).
Thanks.

[Q] Splash screen help??

Ok devs or whoever....
I am looking for some info and apparently i couldnt find any.. (this where u make me look like an @ss and send me a link or not)
I was able to flash a splash screen (very first screen u see when booting up) on both my G1 and M3GS but havent on my G2 or G2x.. Whats in entail to do so the the G2X... To change the first screen...(aka trinity when u flash morfics kernel)
I read somewhere that the boot.img needs to be split to do so... ??? ... Any info would be nice...... Subtle hints to the right whereabouts for this info would be nice to....
Use root explorer and go into system> media. In that file you'll see bootanimation.zip. You can change that out with another .zip of your choosing and rename it bootanimation.zip. This was how it was done with the Vibrant and I would think it would be the same with the G2X.
Ok Charlie ill check it out... thought that was just the boot animation though without splash screen. Mmk though

This is worth the $1 or whatever it is in sooooo many ways. Look at the related apps too (boot installer)... dude... you have no idea the simplicity of this and how clean each install was (I have tried probably 20+ of the boots and was able to customize by ripping one of the zip packets off the SD.... it shows the split too in the zip file.

...oohhhh... I missed that clarification. Ok so you want to change the "LG" splash just before the bootani starts... let me look, I gotta get back to you though... I came across that a while back and the instructions that the dev dropped with it didn't work but I tweaked it and got it. I gotta dig..
Yay the lg screen before bootanimation....
From what I read its un boot.img and that needs to be unpacked which would meen that every new rom flashed would have to b edited I assume

Yeah I can see it when I dig with root explorer and then throw the .rle in my drop box. I looked for that installer and was hitting blanks but I will find it today and also tweak that graphics archive. GIve me a few to diddle.
I also have a ViewSonic GTablet, which is also a Tegra 2 device. See this procedure:
http://www.slatedroid.com/topic/162...logos-replace-viewsonic-logo-g-tabletzpad-t2/
Basically you use nvflash to put a bitmap file on a specific partition.
THE ABOVE PROCEDURE WILL NOT WORK ON YOUR G2X, but it's a starting point to figure out how to do it on the G2x.
Hey IB you make any progress?

[Q] Custom Boot Animations?

Hi everyone. I just recently bought an infuse after leaving tmobile and going with at&t and was wondering if anyone has/ knows how to put custom boot animations on the infuse? I had one on from Dysgenic on my MyTouch slide and it tried it on the infuse but it doesnt work. Any ideas?
How exactly did you try it? Did you throw bootanimation.zip into /system/media ?
it uses a proprietary .qmg file, nobody has successfully made a custom one. support for bootanimation.zip needs to be written into the kernel. we really need a kernel dev.
sounds and shutdown animations on the other hand should be simple
i killed off those files, to atleast get rid of the att logo thing. instead of defaulting to the android default animation, like any other phone would, its just black. dont really care though. although i imagine when we get proper roms going, we will have it switched back to bootanimation.zip.
I have a custom boot animation working using the Captivate work-around (replace playlogo and playlogos1 with bootanimation). It only shows up for the last two seconds before going to the lockscreen, but it works. We won't be seeing proper support until a kernel developer gets working on it.

do you write a script into those files that reads the boot animation or just name the boot animations playlogo and playlogos1? i think eugene373 and the early lagfix's used those to run user scripts untill kernels were developed that supported init.d scripts

So on the Infuse you were able to successfully able to get rid of the boot animation? I don't wanna see my world, delivered, hehe.
@dani897: I just copied bootanimation twice and renamed them playlogo and playlogos1 (backups made, of course). Personally, a black screen with a second or two of Honeycomb boot animation at the end is better than the AT&T animation. I haven't done a lot of research on the topic of QMG/zip boot animations though.
i know there are kernel mods to do it properly, was wondering if there was a dirty hack job way to do it. i never knew that worked at all just renaming the files like that.
anybody have the stock boot animations for something like the galaxy s2?

Modify .lfs folder?

Just wondering if anyone has figured out how to change the names of the images or add images to /mnt/.lfs so you can have a custom start up screen. I have the SGS4G and I highly dislike the tmobile splash screen that comes up. I am not talking about the boot screen as I know how to change that. I have tried renaming and adding a different pic with the same name as the one that is used, but nothing ever changes. I have tried with droid explorer, I tried with an update.zip and pushing with CW in recovery mode, I have tried pushing with terminal emulator, I have tried pushing with adb, and I have even tried just copy and paste with Super Manager. Any suggestions?
Look up a bootanimation tutorial. You can only use this on Froyo since there's no kernel supporting it for GB yet.
Are you referring to the pink screen or the splash before?? I know that the mobiletechvideo guy figured out how to change for a few galaxy phone's first boot screen.

I know how to change the pink crap (which was the first thing I got rid of as soon as I got my phone, then the bloatware). I need to know how to change the first splash screen that comes up... Who is this mobiletechvideo guy? Do you have a link to his work/page?
Its josh at mobiletechvideos.com... He's got links for vibrant and sgs II..
with the vibrant, you have to flash/Odin a param that erased the tmobile/att file then manually push new .jpg file in.
I've tried his i9000 & sgs2 files... Rainbows and reboots...
I've asked if/when/how for us... No response yet though guess he's busy unbricking sgs 2s and such..

[Q&A] jt1134's ICS ROM - First preview release - UNOFFICIAL

Some have mentioned (rightfully so) in the thread in the General section now titled "ICS here: (more to come)" that it is getting quite full of various bug reports and doesn't really belong there. Since I know that jt1134 is building it and doesn't post much on xda (usually uses RootzWiki) I figured I would quickly start a Q&A thread for us to post in so we can leave the other one clean for his work.
This is not an official support thread and its quite possible that jt1134 won't come by here at all. This is simply for everyone to help each other and keep the main thread clean.
A few things that I seem to have gathered while reviewing the other thread:
The link to the post where jt1134 posted the first preview is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24665001&postcount=272
If you flash the recovery from Froyo bootloaders you will get what people refer to as the "rainbow" recovery, this is very colorful and hardly readable. From GingerBread bootloaders it should appear normal
Camera is known to not be working as of the time of this post
Many apps (including Facebook) launch correctly if you shut off GPS alltogether (this seems to be the solution if you find an app that just shuts the phone off upon launching)
External SD card should show up in the /mnt/emmc/ folder (might just be /emmc/)
If you can't get usb mounted to your pc check out this thread for a tool: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1389375 (thanks for finding it Axiomkid)

Froyo bootloaders will give an uninterpretable rainbow. Pull the battery then it will become remotely readable in the most extreme senses of the word.

I had thought about that as well.
Reasoning it through, I don't think it will be an issue but haven't tried it yet.
It would be useful though, to have the Boot.bin, params.lfs, sbl.bin and the kernel zimage as a 1 straight shot.
That will give gb bl's and the recovery image kernel.
You feel like testing?

Under developer settings, would using the options "allow GPU rendering" use more batter than if it wasn't in use? Speed seems to improve slightly but enough to be noticeable, is there a really big downside to this setting? Ohh and is there any way we could get some type of security lock built into the rom to have the option to password protect apps? Kinda like MIUI has it? Thanks in advance

Hmmm never had any MMS problems myself at all. You might try downloading the latest build posted in the dev section. It should hopefully fix your problem. And correct, bluetooth isn't working and won't until the kernel issues get fixed. But mainly everything works perfect.

Never used GPU rendering so I honestly can't say for sure. And as for the security lock....never looked into it so I don't really know what adding it would entail.

I have seen it suggested to set mms proxy to 66.209.11.32 in apn settings for some of the other ice roms.
I got the MMS working. Under apn setting "ATT LTE" where it says "PTA" I changed it to say "phone". Works perfect now.

When flashing this coming from GB (2.3.5) i got blue recovery with half the screen filled with "rainbows". I know this is a boot loader problem, and i followed the instructions with double flashing and also every time i boot it up, right after the Samsung logo i get the whole screen filled with "rainbows". Is there anyway to flash the proper ones?

You would need to flash the GB Bootloaders.. You can either use Odin or Heimdell.. I personally used Odin, so thats what i am going to suggest.. HERE IS THE LINK - The part you need is towards the bottom of the page when you go to that link. Here is the part you will need to follow
1.) I have rainbow distortion in recovery or in the boot animation. How can I get Gingerbread bootloaders to fix this?:
You can download THIS .rar file, extract using 7zip, and flash the tar.md5 package in Odin (use the pda slot). Flashing Gingerbread bootloaders will correct rainbow distortion in recovery and in the boot animation. Only flash these if you are having issues with rainbow distortion, and only if you have had success flashing other, less dangerous items in Odin. If something happens to cause a flash of these bootloaders to fail, then you run the risk of bricking your phone. See THIS post and THIS post for more of an explanation of why bootloaders weren't included in the rooted UCLB3 Odin packages.

So just to be clear, you wouldn't highly recommend flashing the proper one's? If you so happen to attempt to flash them and for whatever reason brick the device would you end up with a soft or hard brick, and would it be repairable?
This seems to be an ICS problem, or at least ICS ports for our phones; I have tried two other ICS ROMs, and none of them are playing .wma files, but as far as I have seen are playing .mp3 files just fine. Every time I open try to open up a .wma file it says, "This file could not be played," or "Invalid file extension." Any ideas?

I'm having the same issue of not being able to boot into recovery, either through the power menu or through the 3-button method. I flashed the ROM successfully and can boot into it but i have not flashed GAPPS yet. Is there a way to fix this or do I need to ODIN back to stock and try reflashing everything?
Stuck in Recovery
Ok I flashed Beta r3-beta2 and is stuck in recovery....didn't see any instructions so what or where are the directions to flash from gb? and what can I do to get it to boot?
