I by mistake renamed the "boot" folder in system folder to "boot.spice" in my spice mi-310. The next second universal androot stopped working, and hence now the phone isnt switching on(it only displays the brand name and doesnt even go upto the boot screen). How can i access the system files in any other way ,say pc so that i can rename it back? Or please tell me to rename that folder back? please help.

Hi,
maybe its possible to boot into recovery mode and restore your phone back.
I think following will help you to boot into recovery mode :
Swith off the device.
Then hold trackpad+vol down and power on but dont release the keys
I think the folders are switched to original after recover, hope so.
Regards
NetJay
i tried everything.....factory reset in recovery resets only the settings and not the renamed file....any mathod or pc software to access the system files and renaming it back??? please..help required

It sounds like you may be in stock recovery. We have to use a bootstrapped recovery called openrecovery. After you have installed openrecovery you get to it by holding the volume up key during a normal boot.

For some reason your sdcard is not being mounted. I would check it out on a PC in a card reader.

so wht shld i do??? is der a problem with my sd card????
Reading your post, I think there is a step that was missed. Did you extract the openrecovery.zip? The extracted contents are what is in this folder sdcard/openrecovery.
Do you have this set up on your SD card?
Sdcard/openrecovery.zip
sdcard/openrecovery
sdcard/nandroid/openrecovery/<your ROM you want to restore>
**No spaces between**
Go to this thread and download and unzip this recovery (http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1242259) This is what we are all using now b/c of the customization that MZ put into it. Follow the directions.
Yes yes yes yes!!! U were right i missed tht step i got it working Thank u thank u

Here is one more problem. I have installed this rom now after installation of this ROM i m getting an Error PLMN failed.
Check you APNs but IIRC the PLMN error didn't really matter. I saw it on Hellmonger's ROM. Might want to ask Linertymonger, I think he had a fix for that.
I just installed jelly bean on my Samsun GS3 SCH-R530U, and now whenever I Odin CWM, it will boot only one time when I boot to it, after that I get a fallen over robot icon from samsung, and their old boot menu. This means I have to flash it every time I want to backup or restore a nandroid backup. Is there some way I can get past this? Do I need a newer CWM? Has Samsung found a way to disable CWM?
try this
as a nexus s owner got this issue in past, seems to be caused cause from GB on in /system/etc there is a install-recovery.sh wich overwrite all the recovery you have installed every time your phone boot up, just solved checking for this file and deleted or renamed (as you want) so in booting the CWM won't be deleted and overwrited by the original one (wich is called install-recovery.sh)
To be clear using root explorer os similar point to this file in /system/etc, then delete or rename, if it tells you can't do cause is read only file system switch from R/W to R/O
Not entirely sure but I think flashing recovery.IMG file on Mobile Odin solved the issue for me.

Worthy path to pursue

This sounds like a good path to pursue, but I can't find any "install-recovery.sh" anywhere in the system. Could it be named something else, but have the same function?
Accidentally found a workaround -PROBLEM SOLVED 4 me
I found that after using clockworkmod recover, if I remove battery, re-insert battery and then boot phone in normal way, instead of using CWM menu to reboot, it doesn't get over-written. I put in my Title that my problem was solved. Some forums have some other way to indicate this, but I couldn't figure out how on this forum.

Pc companion, and Sony update service.
Though flashtool + ftf should do the job.
Flashtool doesn't need unlock bootloader, unless youre flashing custom kernel (boot.img)

Then use the normal restore to restore everything to your phone. Sometimes just restoring /system under advanced doesn't work.
This will be easier than flashtool, which will completely wipe your phone.

Just use cwm to restore a back up to your phone. Use the bog standard restore, not the advanced one. If you use flashtool to flash an ftf, it is almost the same as factory resetting your phone and you will have to start from scratch. The only issue you might have with cwm is if the back up you are trying to restore was made with a kernel from a different version of Android or was made with a different version of CWM. In this case, just flash the correct kernel using fastboot and then restore.
If you have a flashable zip of the ROM you were MODding you can either reflash the whole ROM (just wipe cache and dalvik cache). Or if you are feeling adventurous, you can also pull out the framework files you need from the zip and then push it onto your device. Use 7zip (or equivalent) to copy the file you need (framework-res.apk for example) from the zip to someplace on your PC. Since it sounds like your recovery is working, you will probably need to boot into recovery and mount /system, then use something like android commander or adb to push that file onto your device. Make sure it ends up in the right place (probably /system/framework) and then set the permissions to rw-r--r-- and reboot. Android Commander makes this super easy. You can do this on the whole /framework folder but you need to set the permissions to the folder to rwxr-xr-x and then the permissions to every file inside the folder to rw-r--r--.

Sorry, but I was under the impression that you had a working version of CWM. AFAIK there is no way to convert your nandroid back ups to something you can write with fastboot or flashmode. If your backups end with .tar then you should be able to use something like 7zip, winrar, iceows, etc to pull out the files that you need from the back up. I would open the archive with your archive viewer and then copy what you need to your computer. Then use adb to push the files into /system/framework or where ever they need to go. If you already have flashtool, you can use the adb that lives in ../flashtool/x10flasher_lib. Look around for the shell commands to mount /system, set permissions, etc that you will need.

Can you tell me if your bootloader is unlocked, what ROM and kernel you were using, exactly which file in /framework you were messing with, and what happened to your CWM recovery, for example, it would be good to know if you can still boot into recovery and exactly what error you get when trying to restore your nandroid back up. Also, is the back up for the same ROM or a different ROM?
Ok in telling U full history
I was copying framework res mobile fell from my hand it didn't suceed (I have brocken cover) becaus battery came out when I rebooted my phone the boot animation plays for some time and phone hangs at bootanimation I restored using cwm and it it successfully restored boot image when it comes to system it says failed restoring /system after that when I restart my phone it sticks at Sony logo and I can't get into cwm also
So is the story
Bootloader not unlocked and everything was of stock nothing custom I was installing different lockscreen by replacing system res

The novadroid it won't work with your phone, you will brick it, because i already did that.
I cant find the original rom too but I created a custom rom for this model phone, maybe works with yours too, http://www.putlocker.com/file/77AA68DDE353127C
I got a backup from mine before I briked, but the system.img part it was corrupted, so i extracted from other rom with same hardware but just the system.img, I edited the hardware part and its works, i deleted some apks that it wasnt necesaries, and changed the lanuncher for holo launcher because the launcher of the other rom it was very bad
IMPORTANT!!
before you do anything, go to system folder, copy all the folders and the build.prop file to SDCARD, except "bin" and "etc folders, because it dont let you copy some files from "etc" and "bin" folders, but the others folders it will let you, if you do that I will be able to create a rom factory because i have all the factory files except some files from the system folder because mine was corrupted. Please upload that folders in a zip file and I will create a factory rom.
Hello,
I am stuck with one of these samsung i9500 sc6820 phones...
I was stupid enough to click on delete app using titanium backup and I am stuck now on reboot... I know I should have clicked on freeze however I made a mistake...
Now phone is in reboot loop and it shows
Unknown volume for path system; app/xxxxxxx (name of application I deleted)
and in the second line:
reboot into recovery...
How can I recover this phone... I can not connect it to anything in order to flash it since it just keeps rebooting... I found couple of pac and image files but I do not know hot to proceed... phone just turns off and there is not enough time to connect via adb or any other app....
I spent so many days until I rooted this phone and with one click I messed it up...
I have apk file I deleted but how to transfer it to the phone?
this phone does not have fastboot or recovery... and even the menu with some factory testing with vol - and power button is not accessible now...
Any suggestions how to proceed? Maybe some flash from sd card if possible... ?
update:
i found the way to flash pac files however i do not have appropriate one to use...
this is as far as i know sc6820 sc8110 phone with 256mb rom and 256mb ram...
on the sticker is says i9500 samsung and it was loaded with 4.2.2 android...
if anyone has any links or pac files for me to try please let me know since I already tried with 4-5 images and always end up with white screen...
Also if I find the same phone how can I make an image to copy it to this phone?
What is the easiest way to do it?

After trying and trying and failing, I have finally figured out a way to port a rom to the Cube T7.
This has proven the only method (in my experience) to work. All the standard methods have failed
each time.
WARNING!!!!! THIS COULD BRICK OR DAMAGE YOUR PHONE
YOU ARE TRYING THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK. I WILL NOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE
FOR WHAT HAPPENS TO YOUR DEVICE!!!!
Things you need.
latest Spftool
and the Rom package
NOTE:You need to know that you can't just flash the package I put together. You will
need to use the TWRP recovery that comes in the package to transfer file from your external sd to
the system folder and so forth. Also the proper permission to set.
Step 1: Flashing the images.
I've already pulled the correct img from each folder and put it together for you.
The only thing that you will need to do is extract the folder and use the spf tool to
install the firmware.
Note** In order to keep the 3.97 app storage, I've had to make sure to use the
Spf tool to do a full format except for the bootloader.
Step 2: Repairing the Rom
In the rar package, I included all the files need to fix the rom so
it will work smoothly on your phone. The files can be located in
the "system" folder which will need to be copied to your external sdcard
At this point you will already have flash the images and turn on the phone.
You will notice that the after you turn it on, you will get a warning that says "Cpu overheating"
or at least to that affect. This is not true by the way, this is from the fact the tp settings are off
from the original rom. Either way the warning will force boot your phone which again is fine.
Once this happens you will need to go to recovery.
Once in recovery make sure that you go ahead and mount your
system partition.
With this done you will be able to go to /system/etc/.tp
This folder contains the files that control the thermal manager for
the rom. You want to delete this folder. YES DETELE IT!!!
Once deleted, go to the system folder that you should have copied to your
external Sdcard. You need to copy /system/etc/tp to the exact location that you
just deleted the original.
Once you've done this you will need to set the permissions for the folder and the
files contained. The folder needs to be set to 0755 and the files inside need to be set to 0644.
Once done its best to go ahead and use the recovery to flash UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip to root your device before
restarting. Once restarted you will need to use root explorer or es explorer root function to
copy all the files to there correct locations and set their permissions. Each file is in its corresponding
folder as it should be in the system partition. All you will need to do is copy and past from the folder on the external and
paste to the same folder in the system partition. For those that may not know, all files will be set to 0644/rw--r--r-- and folders that you copy over will be 0755/rwxr-xr-x (if your using root explorer, just un check the group and others on the "Write" permissions.
Whats not working?
I can't figure out how to get the camera to working.
I've used standard tuts to try and copy the right files or libs
but not luck as of yet. If anyone figures out a way please share!!!
Also, if you have the fold case, the screen does not come on when you
open the fold. Also when double tapping the screen, this does not take it out of sleep
mode. From what I've seen those are the only things that dont work. If you see something
else, please report it to this thread.
Also in the package you will find the Carliv 3.3 recovery version for our phone.
Thanks to kushyree from needrom.com for building it for us.
He also has been assisting me in trying to port other roms to our phone. We owe him a lot of thanks.
Let me know if you guys need any help with this. I will do the best I can to try and help out. Enjoy.
