Samsung is not going to release Gingerbread. Mark my words. That is not how they do business. Need Gingerbread, buy a Galaxy S II, is going to be their motto.

Or Nexus S... or Nexus one...

We got our one update for this phone. Now it's up to the developers, if we ever get anything better.

I started mumbleing day it came out .. I love the hardware samsung comes up with but the software has gotten worse .. gingerbread would save some face .. esp if they get it out quick .

Haha with CM7 getting closer and closer to our eager Captivates, does it really matter if they release it? (Vibrant just got test releases for CM)

It does matter wether they release it. A lot of the drivers are available in binary form only, as they are proprietary. Having Gingerbread compatible drivers available from Samsung can help withdeployment of CM7. IIRC, what slowed down CM 6.1 was the lack of Froyo drivers from Samsung.

I am looking into upgrading to the infuse, but I'm a bit leary at this point. What is the status of the GB ROMs? Is there a stable version at this point? Thanks and I apologize if this has been asked already.

A few if you look in the development section, and there will likely be more once GB is officially released to the infuse later this month(if you believe AT&T).

There is only.one gb rom. As we speak its stable infused v2.0.1 enjoy

Infused v2 is quite stable - it's missing HDMI and the data speeds are a little wonky (It will likely remain this way until AT&T releases GB), but it's the daily driver for a lot of people.
CM7 is less stable - however it's the daily driver for a lot of people. Most of the known issues are pretty clearly spelled out.
nopcodex90 and h8rift have ROMs in progress. nop is doing final polish-up (he was going to release a beta but decided against it after seeing the Infused v2 threads go downhill), h8rift is waiting until after AT&T GB is released.

The GS2 should be released in 2-3 weeks. If you have an upgrade due you may want to consider waiting. It will be released with GB.

Leaked this morning....it will be available 8/28....i verified with best buy...att store and att customer service today ...the att store told me they would hold one but no pre orders. Best buy told me to check back tuesday about preordering.

Really? So glad I have like 21 days until i can exchange it at best buy....hope it comes out within those dates. I read the 28th is the announcing day not the actual release. Also I get to go to best buy today to get my 50 bux back since they dropped the price....OBVIOUSLY because the gs2 is almost here.

I called AT&T customer service and they don't know anything about it. They did say they have the I-9100 and I-9103 in their system though. 9103 is the tegra version of the Galaxy S II.

The i9103 scares me..i have no interest in a tegra version.
The test model i got to play with was definitely a i-777 or something like that.
I am goung to stop by the att store tomorrow and chat with the guy i had on the phone

My samsung source gave me 9/2 as a release date and that att would have it first. it has been leaked sprint will release 9/9
I would imaginevwe see is somewhere between 8/28 and 9/4

Awesome. My friend who works for att (manager) is clueless about it. doesn't even know about the announcement date. All he said was "if its anything like the galaxy s then its going to suck. those phones were pieces of ****" ::shakes head::
calling best buy now for pre order questions....
....clueless as well. It was like I asked him to explain the theory of relativity. "What is that? a game or an iPod?"

The unit i played woth was indeed no keyboard...the samsung guy said the untis you are seeing with keyboards are NOT S2 phones...other variants.
It had capacitave buttons only...no big apple style home button. It was 4.3" ....barely noticeably smaller than the infuse.
I have been looking for an app or way to figure out which processor is in it with no luck so far.

Is your Samsung Rep is southern Calif? I actually the infuse buttons over the iphone style button. How much inboard storage? Do you know if they are releasing a 32GB version? I'm hoping the $249 version will be 32GB.

No, you would have to return to stock to receive the OTA update.

I'm almost positive the ATT GB update will require a pc. They won't push an update that big OTA. I could be wrong, but like I said i'm almost positive.

Kies mini recognizes my infuse now but says its unregistered.

we know that the infuse and sgs4g are getting 2.3.5 and the t-mobile gs2 supposedly ships with 2.3.5 but the gs2 att version ships with 2.3.4. give it atleast a couple weeks since they will likely update both (and the captivate) together. i doubt they will give us 2.3.5 before the gs2 but who knows. even if they do i dont think they'd release the infuse update till after the frenzy is over for the gs2

The crazy part is that if you go on the AT&T website right now and look at the specs for the GS2, it doesn't' even list what operating system it comes with.

The 2.3.5 leaks are pretty good but I get it. Lack of sources is a *****. Entropy fixed wifi on his kernel but no HDMI is annoying. I am on the fence with what to spend my time with. I might abandon simply honey as there are bug I have no hope of fixing and my even after disabling the battery full notification it still causes a bug where I need to reboot the phone to mount the SD after a full charge.
Its either work on that or work on ucki3/4 and I'm leaning towards ucki3 over simply honey right now.

Yeah it's a joke that official gingerbread isn't out yet. Guess we are really lucky to have the roms we do. Infused 1.6 is excellent. Will be sad when all the devs leave for gs2!!

Well I was just curious cause I know ics is next month (I'm guessing) and since we haven't got gb yet maybe they were waiting for ics.. I really hope the devs pick it back up cause I'm really enjoying this phone.

Is this usually what happens before an official samsung release?

If AT&T weren't taking so long to release official GB and the Rogers release weren't so crappy, probably more devs would have stayed around.
But it's frustrating as hell to be banging your head against the wall for an oddball device.

Yes....
Similiar to the different iOS betas that are released before the official version....you normally will see 3-6 builds of a samsung version before the final is released....I know UCKI4 was the last Infuse GB build though I heard there is a UCKI5 floating around though I have not seen it myself....

There is a ki5 but its encrypted. No one has opened that I can tell.
There are many things on my todo list. One is to put out a new simply honey and another is to package a rom based on ki4. Lets hope I find time this weekend.

By looking at the history of things, updates, we will get official GB pushed first then ICS later, but GB was not open source where as ICS is... But then again all has been pushed off due to things happening with the loss of Steve Jobs and everyone using that as a excuse to back track...
No Punn Intended!!!! Please do not take this comment negatively, just laying it out there as it comes, and from what we are seeing and reading about.

Once leaks stop coming, we know that Samsung has got a good build, and is giving it to AT&T to start pushing out as an OTA, only then will we know when it'll be released.
I can't wait for that day, I really want official GB.

AT&T doesn't do the porting - Samsung does and AT&T delays the updates.
It was barely acceptable to release a Froyo phone when the Infuse was released - a Froyo-on-release phone would be dead in the market now.

What do you think would be the motivation for AT&T to delay the updates; especially for their just-released SGS2? The only thing I can think of is needing to beef up support needs. But then again, versus the lost sales.
I had just finally convinced a buddy to go with the Android o/s and especially the Infuse or the SGS2. Then he came around citing his research that both phones are really behind the curve and that he minimally wants a GB phone now.

I've been waiting to get ROM-happy until the official GB releases, but this is killing me! I feel as trapped as when I had an iPhone! Let me out of this cage AT&T, and give me my dessert with some GB!
