I am about to buy a chacha. However now the custom Tom fun seems to take off, I'm afraid to get a chacha that doesn't have S-Off and therefore makes me miss all the fun. Is the a place that is known for selling S-Off units? Or should I not be conserned about this at all as it might also be possible to turn a s-on unit into a S-Off unit?

You need to have luck to get your device delivered in an S-OFF state. You can however turn it from S-ON into S-OFF, by buying the XTC Clip from here It costs about 50 dollars, so it's not quite free.
I think I could be willing to spend the 50 dollars on that xtc. The only thing that would make me hesitate is that HTC might just unlock that bootloader as it with the sensation. Or would you think that that would be unlikely?

Seen that there are no custom roms yet, I wouldn't buy it yet. Two parties might release a free unlock: AlphaRevX and HTC. Though I doubt HTC will unlock the chacha, it is one generation behind the Sensation.
I'm going to get an xtc clip tomorrow,
I would say people could post me their chacha and I'll s-off for a small fee. But not sure I would post my phone to some random bloke on the web (i could be anyone!)
Then again the payg version is only ￡22 on eBay anyway.
I'm getting the full one as some people at work want theirs done.
The thing I want is to be able to use the uot theme kitchen like I had on my legend...for that I'll need clockwork mod.

Quite expensive, i bought xtc clip about 30 GBP and can unlock and S-off many device
i just S-oFF my HTC desire with XTC clip and youtube instructions
Anyone can s off chacha in Thailand, Krabi or Bangkok?

XTC clip cannot root, XTC clip makes your phone S-OFF, you can after that downgrade the phone and root it!

the purpose of xtc clip is not to root phones, it's to make them s-off

Hello raskal, please tell me what should i do to make fastboot flash command working.
I unlocked my desire by XTC, security is off CID is Supercid, but fastboot flash is not working. i cant flash recovery.
Itried to do this by putting PB99IMG.zip on sd, and flash over recovery, and fastboot flash recovery ....... and both of the doesn`t work.
I can also confirm it works, i have had mine done and very chuffed!

Xtc it's the only way currently, people Are working on a software method....
Some people offer a mail order xtc service, where you send your phoner to them, they s-off it and then post your phone back, should be about quarter th the pricE of buyinG xtc online
you'll need to find an unlocking shop that does this in your country

Only 1 type of clip - Although a payg clip is in testing elsewhere on forum.
It will certainly give you s-off.
noone can accuratly say whether it will work on future models.

As ben_pyett already said it's the only way right now - unfortunately as I see it they (HTC) do the same with all the new ones coming out...
If I'll have time - something I'm always lack of - I'll make up a proper rooting guide with pictures.
In the meantime if somebody needs S-OFF just send me a PM.

hi i have htc desire bravo. and the phone only show htc logo and 4 exclamation mark. i try to enter in recoverey mode but cant and the phone only show htc logo and 4 exclamation mark.. i try with so many room but its stuck on updating signature in ruu section. and the phone is s-on. i tryed downloding 02 original rom but the image version dosent match with my phone operator.

Currently the Desire S can only be unlocked by the XTC Clip, however i dont know if the software is public yet (dont have one). Since the release of the Incredible S alot of people have tried breaking the code, but at the moment of writing no-one has gotten trough.
Downgrading is not usefull, since there are no older builds which have the wpthis exploit in it. If you got a signed rom that has an Eng Hboot in it, it will be possible but currently its not possible....
does any dev have Desire S?
None does as far as i know, and there are few with a Incredible S so testing is also hard to do...
But i can assure you if the IS is s-offed, the DS wouldn't be that hard to port to

If you live in London then read this thread and visit one of the xtc clip owners that are in London (there one in West and East) that offer the service for a reasonably low cost.

But my question is how to check my phone is s-off? Volume down + power doesn't helping. Only fast booting.

Apparently, he can't update it to unlock the phone. We not, we don't know.

I can borrow one, but I would need to pay for it sadly.
With the phone S-OFF, would it be worth flash to the ENG H-BOOT? Or not really worth it? Any benefits to having an ENG H-BOOT?

do flash eng hboot becuase if you do mess up the phone it is easir to fix and flash

Can you confirm that it is working? All the posts I've seen over at Phone Tools still show users struggling to get it to work and Raskal saying he will look into the problem. I haven't seen anyone confirming that it works.
so do we all need xtc clip to unlock the phone or could we use dumbed systemfiles from phones which are unlocked and flash them to get it unlocked ??

In order to flash the ENG HBOOT we have here, the devs need to find a way to bypass or remove the eMMC protection.
This is from AT&T's HTC Status (formerly known as the Cha Cha). I hope that I dumped the system correctly. I'm not really sure what you all can do with it, but have at it.

S-on, s-off can't be achieved using firmware updates. Also, s-off users will lose a part of their s-off. So they'd better wait updates out until my cwm recovery becomes stable and I can pre-root system updates for them.

A system dump would not help us, a hboot dump would however, let me search how to dump the hboot and report back with you again.

The 130 eur ones are 10 XTC Clips, probably for people who want to sell the clips themselves.
So you'll be good to go with the 25 euro one
the less expensive is the pay as you go : it comes with one credit and for other devices you have to buy credits

As I've heard the eng s-off for some phones gives more options. Can you please tell us more about this ENG S-off and how can be done? Also, why do you think that its not so cool

my girlfriend has one and i s-offed it with my xtc clip, which works 100%. really good for all those people who have no idea about adb, shell and so on
if there would be an easier way than buying a device, more people would care about the chacha and there would be more custom roms...and yes the htc needs a custom rom, because without A2SD the device criples itself with the build 100mb for software...

Currently there is no other way of getting S-OFF (ENG S-OFF=S-OFF, so disregard all the other posts) except XTC Clip.
I'll update my guide when alpharev/HTC will unlock it.

Why would you want to go from S-OFF to S-ON? Unless you're returning for warranty purposes?
The idea for going to s-off is to get your root rights just fine. I'm a system administrator and i want to use my phone at full capacity.
