Connect wifi xoom through tethering from Galaxy S phone? - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just curious as to whats required to be able to have my xoom see my phone and connect to it. I looked for a forum for it and instructions but wasnt able to find anything.

The easiest way is to open you phone settings, go to Wireless and Network and then Mobile AP.
This will activate your phone as a Mobile Access Point and share it's connection via Wireless.
Now open up your tablets settings and search for the wireless network (usually called 'Android...'), connect to it and your all set.
I'm not a big techy but I hope it helps.

Could I connect to my Internet PC connection via USB cable and my Desire / Bravo?

Hello People, I am looking for a way or app in order to get Internet on my HTC Desire using PC Internet Connection but I don't have any Wireless AP or similar, I need by connecting my Desire by USB to PC....any ideas about this?
thanks in advance
Simply can't be done. Someone would have to design a proxy app app for PC or something to talk to windows ics like what Ms did with activesync
single finger pecked on a galaxy s
it's a shame, hope anyone do this asap...
thanks anyway

Is there a reason you want do to this? Why cant you use your 3g?
of course there is a reason for all this, simple, where I live there is not 3G, EDGE, just GPRS but it's very limited, just exist one Cell Phone Carrier, so no choice....
I'm like you. My house must have alot of steel and whatnot that seem to just kill reception and I only get gprs. I went looking for a usb > android method for months and havn't come up with anything . What helped for me is setting my phone to lock onto WCDMA in settings and using the 3G only fix (type *#301279# in phone/dial pad then select [2] then [1]. To restore select [2] then [3]) Now I atleast get 2 bars with 3G (not full utms/Hpsa) which is fine as its better then GPRS and battery wise its a lot better then HSPA/UMTS but of cause it uses more power then GPRS but since I'm at home I always have it either plugged in or I can charge quick
You don't HAVE to set it to WCDMA only. You can leave it at GSM/WCDMA if you want but I find it very annoying when the phone keeps switching bands as it lags when i'm playing games that need network so thats why I leave it locked onto WCDMA only.
O crap, I didn't relize you don't have the a Galaxy S like I do. Maybe you can find a app or code or something to get your phone to lock onto 3G/EDGE only instead of HSPA
No No, I have HTC Desire / Bravo, will be very nice if something create some app to connect USB cable using Windows.....
I have found this
I have found this, but not sure if works or not, maybe someone can explain me better.

Can i share the connection between android and my pc through USB cable?
I'd like to connect to the internet with my android using the PC internet connection. Yes, you can. It's described on koolu's forum. Check this link [1].
If you dont have access i just copy paste the instructions below.
All credit goes to koolu and Brian Code for this info:

Yes, you can use the USB to browse the web...
You need to do three things to enable the internet.
1. First make sure that network forwarding is working on the computer that the phone is connected to. 2. Add the default route to the phone:
Code: Select all
route add default gw 192.168.0.200 dev usb0
3. Add the dns for proper name resolution
Code: Select all
setprop net.dns1 192.168.0.200
You should be able to ping the computer the phone is connected to:
Code: Select all
ping 192.168.0.200
You should also be able to ping IP addresses outside of that subnet if the route has been set up properly. The route can be verified by:
Code: Select all
cat /proc/net/route
If you're using windows 7, its easy. Use a bit of software called connectify. It turns your pc into an access point. Just connect your phone through WiFi and voila!!!
It doesn't have any software same as activesyn for android mobile ?
I cant connect to internet via my HD2 but I have internet connection in my PC.

you can try this:
http://blog.mycila.com/2010/06/reverse-usb-tethering-with-android-22.html
I know this is not a solution exactly, but the HD port has something called 'Internet pass-through' which is what you want. It's sad that we used to do it easily in WinMo but have to go through hell to do it in Android.
So if you feel like putting up a new ROM, try it here:

If he could connect to his computer through WiFi then wouldn't it be easier to connect straight to the net through WiFi,
There must be a way of doing this, I used to have a Samsung omnia, when you plugged in the usb cable it would connect to the net via the computers connection and sync the emails
Good luck with this but considering there is no way to access the internal memory other than in adb there is probably no way for the pc to access it either

[Q]Android phone as a Wireless Modem

it is possible to use my Galaxy Mini as a WIFI Modem? i want to share the PC internet connection via Wi-FI to my laptop,is it a way to do that? i know that i can use my phone as a modem if i have a data plan, but i dont want that. pls help
ํYou can use Android phone to Wifi hotspot.
Setting - Wireless & Network - Portable hotspot
If I understand correctly you want to connect machines via WiFi to you phone that is plugged in to your main PC which has an internet connection?
Ahh, I know what you want, I used to do it on my iPod.
I'm pretty sure PDANet should allow this, just USB tether with WiFi on, and it shouldn't turn it off.
If it does, then there's another program that I can't remember that does the same thing.

CradlePoint with Sensation?

I tried to follow this tutorial to use a CradlePoint CTR350 router with the Sensation
http://www.cradlepoint.com/about/blog/an-android-powered-cradlepoint-router
I do not see the "Mobile Broadband Connect" USB connection mode. I did see a USB Tether option, which asked me Mac of PC and I figured the router would be more like a PC and I chose PC. The phone would not share its internet connection with the router.
Has anyone been able to use a Sensation with a CradlePoint router, and if so, which router and what settings did you do on the phone?
Thanks
Any comments?
Thanks in advance.
I really would like to be able to connect the Sensation to a Cradlepoint router so it can be a backup Internet source if my wireline Internet service is down. Any ideas on getting Sensation to work with CradlePoint?

I had a quick look at the web site you gave. If I understand it, it's a USB -> WIFI router. Such that the Cradlepoint WIFI routes via USB and 3G (phone) to the Internet.
Assuming that's the case I can't see anything in particular why it shouldn't work.
Can you use USB tethering to connect a single PC to the Internet via USB/3G ? (If this works and my assumptions are correct the phone is working fine).
Do you need to configure the Cradlepoint device in any way ?
In the absence of this, the phone can act as a WiFI hotspot, does this not give you enough connectivity to the Internet?

I actually have Mac and I often use the wifi tethering. I only tried USB tethering with the Cradlepoint. The first time the phone asked me Mac or PC and I chose PC, thinking Cradlepoint would be similar to PC. I don't know how to get it to ask PC or Mac for USB tethering again. I would like to be able to connect an Ethernet cable to Cradlepoint to get to the Internet. That would be for the scenario my home Internet is down, then I would want to connect my main router WAN to the Ethernet of the cradlepoint and get Internet through the cell phone.
Anyone have any success in using a cradlepoint?

[Q] WiFi tethering bridge to existing access point

Hi there,
At my girlfriend's house there's an existing WiFi access point for their home network and they also have a bunch of computers wired in with ethernet cable. Mobile reception in the house is terrible but I've found one spot by a window where I can sustain a pretty decent dc-hsdpa link. I'm able to tether my laptop to my phone, the phone creates a new WiFi network ap and my laptop connects to that. That works fine.
The thing is, what I'd really like to do, is to have access to the dc-hsdpa connection from some of the wired computers on her home network. To do that I want to have my phone bridge the house network - via their existing WiFi ap - to the mobile internet connection. I'd like the phone to provide a gateway on the house network that could be manually used from the other computers. (I want to avoid using DHCP or anything as it will disrupt the network for other users.)
I know this is technically possible but I'm struggling to find an application that allows for this functionality. I've spent a good amount of time searching around the internet but to no avail. Does anyone know where I can look or of a suitable application? (My phone is a Samsung Galaxy S4 i9505 flashed to run a rooted variant of the play edition KitKat rom.) I'm happy to pay money.
Cheers, Dave.

"Auto switch to mobile data" option

Hi All
Was wondering if someone can help me out. I have a WiFi compatible dash camera and to get footage from it without removing the microsd card i need to connect to it via WiFi. But because the connection doesn't have a internet connection it doesnt stay connected.
I have come from a OnePlus phone to the 4a (my first ever google phone) and i cant seem to find this option anymore. Was just so handy to be able to connect to the camera via WiFi while still having mobile data.
Was this a OnePlus only option? Or was it removed or moved in A11? Anyone able to point me into the correct direction?
Thanks in advance
If I understand correctly, I think you are wanting to put the phone in hotspot mode. That would allow the camera to connect as if your phone is a wireless router using your phone's data connection. You'll need to swipe down twice from the top to show quick options. If you don't see one called Hotspot, swipe to the side to reveal additional quick options. I know this works on unlocked Pixel 4a phones.
Hope this helps.

Nah not quite right. The dash camera has its own WiFi hotspot which you can connect too to view the footage and saved videos etc. But because there is no internet connection the pixel wont stay connected, the only way i can connect to it is to put my phone into airplane mode and connect to the camera.
I'm just trying to find out if its possible to stay connected to the dash camera via WiFi and still remain connected to my mobile data at the same time.
I remember an option in the one OnePlus phones where you can allow the phone to determine which connection is better, WiFi or Mobile Network, and it will connect to that. For example if i would connect to my home network and moved just on the boarder of it it would flick over to 4G so that i would still have some sort of internet connection while still connected to the WiFi so that when i would get back in range it would just flick over.
So what im trying to do is the same thing. Because the dash cam doenst have a internet connection i want to be able to connect to the dash cam with no internet connection but still use my mobile data as my internet source.
This is what it looks like in the OnePlus phone https://forums-images.oneplus.net/attachments/1180/1180298-d92e7795edbf40894ba4164fe89fc486.jpg which is obviously not present in the Pixel under Settings > WiFi > WiFi preferences.
Thanks
I don't see it here. I used to have that setting as well on my LG G7.
