Rom/kernel - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What rom are you using I'm just tryna figure out wats the best for my ns4g, also wats the best kernel for speed and battery life?

I'm using MIUI 1.7.22 w/Matr1x v5.0 bfs and performance and batt life has been good. Koushdecks 1.2.1 is also good as well, Mikeys roms are pretty sweet too. But everyone has different taste on these kind of things. So try to use one that fits you best. I usually just switch from rom to rom once in awhile.

I'm using oxygen 2.1.6 just come from cm7.1

MIUI 1.7.22 with Matrix and my own build based off Koush's with Netarchy

the latest cm7 kang with an unreleased(yet) Trinity11 UV kernel.

Miui seems laggy or maybe I had the wrong kernel?

I'm using Matr1x 5.0 cfs kernel with stock ROM. I haven't OC'd but the native settings seems to be giving me a good balance between speed, stability and battery life.

I personally use CM7 w/ matrix kernel. Very stable, great battery life... no complaints here. I was also on the stock de-odexed w/ netarchy's kernel and that was great as well, I just like the added features on CM7 personally
Yeah I think I might just stick with cm and try that kernel thanks

I prefer Netarchy's kernel. Use that with Proton Voltage Control to UV to save battery life.

Kernals. which and why.

So which kernal do you prefer, and why do you prefer that kernal?
Which do you prefer?

Well I like matrix KERNEL cuz it has been really smooth for me. I also like bugles Pete's KERNEL cuz it also makes my phone run really smooth. But it all depends on the phone also. It could run good for me but u could have issues. I say just test them all out and see what feels better for u.

I use Yennob-Base "Base1 -1.2 Overclock | Tiny Undervolt" by dfbonney, which can be found here.
im using miui with morfics teuv88 kernel. miui runs really smooth and it saves lots of battery. also try the other trinity kernels and the matrix kernel.
so now its your turn, flash and use them and decide whats the best kernel for you and your rom.

I've been on matr1x and I just upgraded to the latest version 6.5 and I've had no issues. Maybe over the weekend I will try a new one and report back.

I've used most of them my phone doesn't seem to like to work with Matr1x Trinity UV and EUV work flawlessly. and Buggless Petes one is the most stable for me i don't tend to use the extra functionality that comes with Kernels ..

There is no "best" rom, but vhgomez's 1.2 for the NS4G is a very good one.
I use Peter Alfonso's 1/2/2011 nightly. Everything works, except for google wallet. I reaally like it, and it's very stable. I haven't had any reboots or force closes

this rom is great! Thanks
Check out ASOP+ with SPeedy 3 kernal, im getting UNREAL battery life, 2-3 days. its crazy!
Nexusbeam for me

I´m using AOSP+ with ICUP Speedy-3 Kernel too. Really stable, fast and best battery life.
The rom is updated nearly daily with good tweaks and lot of stuff to customize.
My 2 Cents...
Big Xie's build is golden, the difference between a ROM from an established, accomplished Developer & those from inexperienced builders are quite evident in this build. Everything works right out the box, clean build from source with Xie's overlay = performance & reliability that can't be attained from a patched together, hacked, drag N drop ROM.
