To make changes and rebuild, you'll need the kernel sources from Samsung:

Can someone explain android version versus kernel version? I see there is an updated AT&T stock rooted 2.3.6 flashable zip I can download from the forum. It isn't clear if it's the Kernel or the version of Android. What would be the difference with the 2.3.6 from my stock 2.3.5?
My Rogers i727R says it's Android version 2.3.5 and kernel version 2.6.35.11. From what I understand, the AT&T was also 2.3.5 and kernel version 2.6.35.11. So if I understand this update correctly, it updates the entire OK, therefore it is a ROM, not a kernel, correct?
If this is correct, why did not update the kernel to 2.3.6, or is there no such thing?
Yes its a rom. Android gingerbread version 2.3.6 that is the android version the kernel version of this rom is still 2.6.35.11 im not sure what differences there are on this rom it was an ota update we got a few days ago. And the kernel and android version are not the same. I dont believe the kernel version number , and android version are ever the same
The kernel number is the Linux kernel version that the Android build is based off of, and barring some highly unusual set of circumstances, won't happen to overlap.
Hi,
I am very new here so not sure if there is a thread already on this (can't find it) .
First my version of my phone:
Model : GT-I9300
Android versie : 4.3
baseband versie: I9300BOUGNB1
kernel versie : 3.0.31 2429075
build JSS15J.I9300XXUGNA5
AP: I9300XXUGNA5
CP : I9300BOUGNB1
my question is:
I want to build the Samsung's 4.3.1. stock myself from scratch:
This 4.3.1. sources I9300XXUGNA5 seem to be available on Samsung's opensource web site but I can't download it for some odd reason
Question
=======
Can somebody tell me the steps involved in building the Kernel and ROM from scratch? Do I need an Eclipse etc etc.
I do have a lot of experience as a prof. Java developer but Android is quite new to me.
Appriciate your help!
Regards
André
This is very primary and stupid question but I still need your helping hand.
I am trying on collecting volatile memory form Samsung Galaxy Duos - GT-I8262 running Android version 4.1.2 build version: JZO54K.I8262XXAMG2.
In this link I found kernel source codes for the device, but I am not clear on what to use. There are several source code zip files. For example: GT-I8262_SEA what does stands for?
I think version is build version, none of the match with mine. So using incompatible build version to make loadable kernal module of LiME: Will if destroy my device.
Please help
