I said I would flash cyanogenmod on a friends G1 because he was fed up with 1.6. I've flashed many custom ROM's on several different devices before but I've made a mess of things with this G1 and I can hardly hand back an unusable phone so I would really appreciate your help.
I rooted the phone using Androot, backed up the apps and settings using titanium backup and then the texts using a text backup app. I then downloaded Rom manager and flashed the latest clockworkmod recovery. Next I downloaded the latest official cyanogenmod rom for the dream/g1 and placed it on the phones SD card using my computer. I then re-opened rom manager and used it to select the zip file from the sd (to flash it) on prompt I checked two boxes one to wipe data and one to wipe the dalvik cache and pressed ok.
The phone rebooted into the recovery wiped the stuff, supposedly flashed the rom and rebooted. However it got stuck on the t-mobile g1 boot screen(it never showed anything else first or anything after) I left it for ages with no joy. I then tried wiping from the recovery and flashing again - same thing so i put cm5 on and tried flashing that. Same problem. Then i realised that it probably would not work because I would need to use DangerSPL as the /system partition is too small on the dream/g1. To be honest at this point I can't be bothered with to do that and this guy will be happy with anything above 1.6 to be honest so I thought I would try and flash CM4 because that's based on Eclair I believe (and so it not require I use DangerSPL or any other method to repartition the NAND). However, I tried it twice and still no luck.
At this point I'm somewhat panicking as I cannot seem to make the phone boot and it isn't even mine! Is anyone able to help?
Anyone? Please?
Look, at this stage I will forget custom roms etc. If anyone can tell me the easiest way to get this phone booting android again i would be very grateful.
Even if you could just tell me exactly how to restore it to stock 1.6 from here?
I have flashed roms on phones before - never had a problem but this is driving me crazy - please help!

Try this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803482. I hope it helps.
It's been way too long since I rooted mine to be of any real help but I shall try nonetheless.
Firstly, there is a guide in the G1 forum to unroot and get back to stock firmware: Here (but note that I've never done this).
I must stress though (admittedly from memory) that if you have flashed an SPL or radio image at all, be VERY careful about the order in which you revert back to stock (or go to get a custom ROM depending on which way you decide to go). The G1 is very picky, and flashing things (mostly SPL and radio IIRC) in the wrong order will brick the device. That said, if you follow the instructions you find to the letter you should be OK. But yeah, read twice, flash once.
There is a lot of information in the stickies in the G1 forum. It could take a while to wade through but it should all be there. Failing that, post in the Q&A or General G1 subforums and I'm sure a current user will help you out.
I apologise if I've just posted a bunch of stuff you already know/have read - like I said, I've not used the phone in a while - just trying to offer what I can.
Thanks
No worries now guys i've done it! It was quite complicated but its all sorted now. If anyone is trying this and has the same (or similar) issue then pm me and I will tell you how I sorted it.
Otherwise thanks guys and you can conciser this thread:

Hi guys, I need your help!
Yesterday I updated my phone from Froyo 2.2 to Gingerbread 2.3.5 with Kies, then I rooted it trough Odin and flashed the recovery with ClockWorkMod recovery (i followed the guide, and made everything it asked to do). I completed the task succesfully. But here comes the problems:
I turned the phone on and I wanted to use Wi-Fi connection but I couldn't! It was just saying "error" and in settings the MAC address was unavaiable. I found something on the web, like trying to dial *#*#526#*#* but it didn't work too ("Driving loading unsuccessful").
So I wanted to bring the phone back to the previous state, So i unrooted it (succesfully) but now I'm stuck with this ClockWorkMod recovery and I can't find a way to restore the original Samsung i9003 recovery because i can't find it anywhere and I don't even know if I can use another Samsung's one.
I tought that maybe reinstalling Gingerbread from zero could fix this problem, but I'm not even sure of that, neither on how to reinstall it. Damn, I'm truly an Android n00b
Thanks to everyone that will spend some time helping me!
If it can help, here some infos about my phone

Now, Do you want a guide on how to re-flash back to Gingerbread using ODIN? If so,It is here. And, I would like to tell you that on re-flashing the FW, you are going to void your warranty and you will be able to get rid of the CWM
Hope it helped you!
hi OP
I'm facing the same problem as you, right now waiting for dxkp9 download and reflash with Odin.
But if you somehow manage to solve this issue please share.
Hi!
I tried and I tried and I solved it! I flashed back the stock rom of I9003 with Gingerbread trough Odin. This removed ClockWorkMod and restored the phone as it was in the beginning. Problem solved, original recovery mode and wi-fi finally works!

Hi everyone,
I'm sorry I'm quite new to this, and I'm afraid I've gotten myself somewhat stuck with my Nexus S. Yesterday I managed to root it, install superuser, as well as clockwork mod. Today I wanted to try a new rom and after some attempts, it seems I no longer have any working roms on my phone. After much searching with no luck, I turn to you guys for your expertise.
So I am able to see fast boot upon pressing the volume up and power buttons, and am certainly able to choose recovery and get into clockwork mod. Within clockwork mod I can mount USB storage, so I can transfer roms to the internal SD card. I've tried 3 or 4 roms, some say they install correctly, others not, and after trying to boot after any installation I simply get stuck at the google screen with the lock image at the bottom. The only things I have "deleted" is wiped the data and cache. I have no idea, but I think I may have erased the bootloader image or something else that I should not have that is required.
I have a i9020a model (non-4g model I believe), can you pleeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaassee help me!! I just want to get back to gingerbread 2.3.6, and my phone back up and running the way it was. I've become quite nervous after some searching with some saying a resistor mod is needed on the hardware!!
Your okay cause you can get into fastboot and recovery so don't worry. Maybe the rom you downloaded is not for your phone. Did you make a nandroid backup before flashing the rom? If yes then go into backup and restore from clockwork recovery to go back to stock.
Sent from my A500 using Tapatalk
If you can get to recovery, just flash the stock image FOR YOUR PHONE. Then you can go through and reroot..don't worry, you'll get the hang of it.
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk
So my phone is not "bricked" as they say?? I'm not in big trouble?
I did not make a nandroid backup What kind of image am I looking for and how do I install it on the phone? I know my phone is of the variant i9020a, but how am unsure of how much more specific I should be looking for.
Looking at the following post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1063664.
Should I try installing the Android 2.3.6/GRK39F/UCKF1 Radio/KA3 Bootloader option?
Choose the latest 9020a version of the FULL ROM, which is what you have already have eyes on.
I've tried installing the file I mentioned above, but I get a status 7 error when trying to install, and the install is aborted.
Could I get some more assistance please? Can anyone point me to a correct, full rom? Or perhaps I'm installing it incorrectly, could someone be so kind to outline the correct steps to a proper install?
Edit: I think the above mentioned file is for a GSM model, I'm sure I have the CDMA version.
Also, somewhat good news. I managed to install the oxygen rom, but for the 4g version and installed fine with no errors, but I have no service. What does this indicate, as I still want to restore back to a factory version (non-4g) of gingerbread 2.3.6.
What CWM version do you have? Is it 3.0.0.0?
Also, if you have no service, it's likely that you downloaded a ROM with an incorrect radio.
Edit:
If you have CWM 3.0.0.0, make sure to download the latest version, found in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=988686 (use 5023-cyan.img). You flash this the same way you did CWM previously, though in the terminal make sure you type out the 5023-cyan.img file name.
Next, download the stock ROM from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1063664. Simply look for your phone version, and you'll find the correct software variant.
Maybe you've fixed your phone already; if not, I hope this helps!
I wish you the best of luck. Oh, and through problems like these, you come to learn a lot more about your phone. That's what I've found, at least.
At the thread you mentioned above there is a version with a different radio, you might want to give that one a try.
You also said that you only wiped data and cache, so maybe you should do a full wipe before. Not doing that can sometimes lead to problems.

To be brief, the phone is up and running as brand new! Thank you so very much everyone. It seems the error was with CWM, as I was able to install and boot a 4g oxygen rom on my phone, I went into rom manager, and at the bottom of the list was an option to upgrade to 5.x. Installed the CWM update, wiped everything and was able to install the factory rom, no issues, and everything works just as I remember
I have most certainly learned more about my phone, and I am going to look at it as a rather stressful learning experience rather than a mistake on my part.
But a sincere thanks to everyone once again, I posted this at like 4am here and had a response within a few minutes, I was pulling my hair out haha!
Flashing to stock rom will help you out. You can get stock roms from Internet simply by searching in Google...

Hi,
I apologize in advance for any "noobish" questions, but I'm new to rooting... and if a solution to my issue is out there, please point me in the right direction - I've seen many people having different approaches to this type of issue, therefore I would like some help getting on the right track
I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 I747M which I have successfully rooted ( I think! ) and installed a custom recovery, but I am still encountering issues flashing custom ROMs...
To get in details to what I did ( chronological order )
- I followed all steps given in this site - http://galaxys3root.com/galaxy-s3-root/how-to-root-galaxy-s3/
( looked simple enough in comparison to other processes I've found )
All went has planned until I had to install a custom ROM - CM10 wouldn't install at all and LiquidSmooth would install, but multiple apps wouldn't work properly.
Lucky me, I had done a backup of my current ROM before flashing a custom ROM, therefore I was able of going back to the Rogers ROM.
I assumed the issue would be due to the CWM version not being compatible with CM10 ( and maybe that ws the case with Liquid ) so I ended up installing GooManager and changing my Recovery Mod to TWRP. The issue of not being able of flashing custom ROMs persisted.
So I ended up following what Mr. Robinson posted on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426
-With Odin I flashed my phone with root66_RWC_I747MVLDLK4.tar.md5
-after reboot GooManager was still installed ( obvious ) so I attempted multiple times to flash custom ROMs without success.
I have removed my external SD card, rebooted and removed battery, etc.
I have been getting in most cases "Status 7" as a error message when trying to flash custom ROMs.
I have SU installed, I have done the "fix permissions",...
What am I doing wrong and/or what am I missing in this process to be able of flashing custom ROMs?
Help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in Advance!!
I've also noticed that I have multiple "0" folders in the SD card. For my understanding this is due to trying to install a 4.2 with an old CWM version...
Is it possible that this is what initiated the whole issue?...
So, after searching for a bit I resolved all my issues.. I'm going to post what I did and my current setup in hopes to help other people who have been having trouble getting their Canadian galaxy S3 rolling with a custom ROM. This should apply to any i747m devices, but I have the Rogers one...
For my understanding the beginning of my issues was flashing an old version of CWM. Try to always flash the latest version of CWM or TWRP. I'm currently using the TWRP 4.3.3 WITHOUT ANY ISSUES.
I then flashed AOKP on JB 4.2.1. My phone has been working perfectly since then (besides for some minor known bugs) - make sure to do all the wipes advised on any ROM instructions and you should be fine. You will also need to change the Internet provider settings to reflect your speed and provider.

Something else. Consider changing your custom recovery from d2can to d2att. The number of ROMs out there for d2att is way higher that d2can ROMs.
Good luck!

Hangouts not sending MMS.
Hi XDA community! I have installed the official build of 5.0 and have rooted, debloated, and de-knoxed. But, I cannot for the life of me get hangouts to send MMS. I prefer hangouts to the regular MMS app as the picture quality in it is terrible and I like having my SMS and Hangout sessions merged. I have tried messing with APNs but cannot get Hangouts to send a single MMS.
Please help!
Thanks.

Flashing Debloat tool/Knox counter reset
I just flashed the stock rom and had a couple of questions. I noticed I lost root and my custom recovery which I expected, but still want to flash the debloat tool and knox counter reset. When you boot into the standard android recovery, do choose the update from external storage option to flash? Does the standard recovery automatically unzip files? Sorry for the noob questions as I was used to custom recovery and didnt want to mess things up. Thanks in advance.
Can I flash this over Rwilcos 1.6TD 4.4
I just want to verify I can safely flash this over my current 4.4 Rwilco's Mostly Stock Rom. Will Odin flash a new bootloader or do I need to do this before I go installing lollipop? Thanks in advanced for any help.

The tar will overwrite and erase everything, including root, and will update everything including bootloader and modem.

You will need to root with CFAR which is linked to in the second post of the official 5.0 thread. Then ODIN flash a custom recovery. I used philz. You will be able to flash those files only through a custom recovery from my experience. Your results may vary. Good luck.

I am unsure about version 5.2 but I installed 5.5 on mine and it works great.
Cross post from original thread since there are no responses and this is now the dedicated Q&A for this ROM.
Why is it with the stock ROM(rooted/hotspot via galaxy tools), Wifi calling has such a terrible lag? When running MOAR 2.2, Wifi calling was perfect no lag.
Any ideas or tweaks that don't involve flashing MOAR or another custom ROM since I am content with stock?

I cant say but we'll have to see how this release plays out since its only been available for several days.
I haven't heard any comments about that issue yet but like I said, its still very new. You could always try flashing the stock deodexed build I posted in Sprint android development to see if it makes any difference too. Its already pre-rooted with hotspot enabled too btw.

BootLoop from Deox
Anyone have a bootloop issue after flashing the Deox version?
All went well with rooting, original restore, etc... however, I tried flashing the Deox link file and when it boots up, it just goes to a screen with numbers, and android under it, with circles spinning like a clock above it all....
Or am I just being impatient and it is taking long to load?

Deodexed lollipop will always take at least 15-20 minutes on the first boot or when flashing a framework mod.

I have pandora 5.5 on Lollipop and it works fine as well.
Somebody please help! I am racking my brain on why i cannot load the OA6 full restore onto my sprint G900P. I had no problem restoring the leaked NKD Lollipop and have been running on it for some time. When i load the new software Odin 3.09 loads all the files and when its done the stock recovery does dot boot it stays at the samsung splash screen and freezes when it says " opening recovery" and never loads or continues.
The second thing that is strange is is it will not allow me to revert back to the stock NE5 firmware either. I am basically stuck on the NKD firmware. Some instruction would help, thank you.
