1. Get a phone, tweak it once, and use it (like 90% of us do). Flashing newer modems on a perfectly working phone is your issue, not the phone's.
2. Keep your personal decisions to yourself instead of creating a useless thread here that is more likely to attract flaming.

My 2 Cents
Not really sure if the desire to constantly flash & tweak my phones is actually classified as a compulsive illness or not, but to me that's half the fun. I don't think I have any phone more than a day before it's rooted/jailbroken or otherwise cid-unlocked/no longer stock.

basically what the title says, whats the longest you've been away from your infuse?
for me...i haven't used my infuse in one week, school took it away last Wednesday, my parents picked it up last Friday only to have them decide to keep it because i had a bad grade in Spanish class...im hoping to get it back this Friday but who knows
so for me a week, how about you guys whats the longest you've been away?
BTW it is torture!!!!

Um about 8 hours or so lol and the first thing I do is check xda before I even get out of bed like my morning newspaper.

Lol... when I used to get my phone taken away in school I would quickly take out my sim card if I was getting caught so I could just switch phones when I got caught and be like "IDC haha I'll pick it up whenever" and use a different phone. Same with when my parents took my phone. Buuuuut back on topic the longest I've been without a phone is probably when I lived in Michigan and didn't get service pretty much anywhere. xP

Two weeks plus. I hate it, but its a brick that can not be helped. Im getting the jtag service on it soon to save it. Then itll be alive woolhoooo. I hate using my ipod......

So, my teen daughter is getting a phone for x-mas.

It just arrived through ups.
Its the LG G2X, and I'm extremely jealous looking at all the cool features it has, not to mention it's dual core.
I just took it out of the box, and looked at it.
Didn't turn it on or anything, because, well, its her Christmas present...
So i am pleading to you guys to give me some good reasons why I shouldn't stick my phone in that box, and pretend that's the new phone she got, while I sneakly keep the g2x as if it has been my phone all along.

Octane 3.0 themed version. Gotta wait until its available and you've tried it before jumping ship Other than that, umm I moved to a G2X myself. But I still have the SGS4G. Umm reasons to stay with it..... battery lasts noticeably longer, screens brighter, speakers alot louder! Other than that I love my G2X

Yeah, the g2x does look pretty badass.
Oh well, guess I'll just have to be satisfied with modding and hacking it for her, lol.
Best of all is, it was free, just by adding it to my family plan.

Nah, I think there's still some life to come onto this phone yet.
I have been around since the kb5 enhanced days, and i know we go through slow periods here, but there is always something new on the horizon.

Well, she got lucky they are giving them away for free.
I mean it would be kind of stupid getting a lesser quality phone for the same price ($0), just so my phone would be better.

My dad gave me a g1 when he had a blackberry pearl that was old and my mom had a verizon pay phone. Yes, he payed contract price for it. So ya, you should be as kind as that. Also, my dad also gave me the SGS4g, but my whole family has an SGS4g

Plus, she's been a good kid.
She just got her from Brazil this year, and has made tremendous progress in learning English, and getting good grades in school.
And ill be happy with modding the phone to her taste.
Just likei do to my wife.
In a way, this is still a present for me, because the most enjoyment i get of a phone is modding it.

Haha I think they guy was a crack head looking for his daily fix, had no money so he sacrificed his phone haha...yeah development for the infuse is kind of dead to be honest....its not largely supported.
Come down to AZ man ...a lot of phones for good price.... or find the local crack head with a good phone and offer him money lol

Even skyrocket Dev is not great...i know its better then infuse but...nothing in comparison to OG SG2 or even ATT note

I might consider the Note but just the size seems huge!! I've never actually held it so until I do play with it I'll make my choice

Nothing a new modem can't fix...
Plus Skyrocket is getting ICS soon so the source will be out and different ICS roms will be out as well ..... and Cyanogen will be working all all devices for CM9 (except the infuse sadly)

They said it and even gave out specs on the phones which was mainly 256ram and 1ghz processor was all that was needed

Worst fear was realized today! My beloved cappy took a fall right into the toilet, clean water thankfully! I had to switch to my hd2 for the time being. My cappy is resting comfortably in a bag of rice. I got the battery out so fast that it didn't get wet nor did anything behind the back cover. It may survive, only time will tell. But now I truly feel for you jayrokk

I had a similar incident with another phone ....not my old cappy lol.....
I was pissing and holding my phone with my shoulder and head....and for some reason i lifted my head and the phone just slid down lmao
But that was the tragedy for that haha

We have a great variety of phones at our house.
A blackberry touch
A Samsung infuse
An iPhone 4
And an HTC inspire.
All 4 were chosen for different reasons. The best answer is to allow your child to choose. I don't like iPhone...but my daughter loves hers because its easy to use ...

Kids love the iPhone its the phone of choice for them. Since everyone has it it makes it easier for them to use because they all show each other what to do on it. All three of my kids have it. :thumbup:

I'd say buy them the iphone as long as you were planning on spending that much on a phone for them.

Show her the gs2. She may want the iphone, but if shes kinda like me and sees what the gs2 can do, then get her that 99 dollar phone that literally beats the living crap out of iphone.

Well if its your step son i can see you want to please him...but any parent would want the same...true on if you get him what other kids have they can make it a social event with their phones... for me I made my boys wait till they where junior and senior in high-school before I got them a smartphone.. had to show a level of responsible ...while many of their classmates had sp in middle school.. but hey it was my $$, but they learned if they want, they will work for it...iPhone is a good phone for kids.....

I'm like you don't like Mac, and I also don't like the fact that everyone gets it because everyone else has it thing but really this is all on you, iPhones are expensive, though easy to use and simple, and great for kids just if you do get him one make sure to get a high quality screen protector for it, due to they crack easily and are really expensive to fix, so maybe a good case as well as a good screen protector (I personally love the zagg screen protectors)

I have 2 girls 4yo and 8yo.. They both have Ipods with cases. And a viewsonic Gtab.. Both my wife and I work during the day and sometimes need to get a hold of the oldest. So I bought her a used Motorola Triumph on Virgin Mobile its 35 a month unlimited. There is a few kids at her school with phones, the school has had to change its policy. I also use it to keep track of her (or find the Phone when she looses it). I don't care if parents don't agree with my parenting. But this works for us. Do with your kids what works for you.

Me and my wife let our kids ages 3-10 all play with one of our old iPhones. They love it! But I would have to agree as far as the responsibility issue, hence right now I'm waiting on a new screen to come in to repair the iPhone lol. And it is easy for them all to play with even my youngest.

If.you are planning on spending X amount of money on a phone, let him make the choice.. guide him in the direction as a parent would but give him some responsibility over doing some leg work to compare on his own.. picks a lemon, will teach him to dig deeper and not go based random choices...
