[Q] Keyboard auto-switcher - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi. Does anyone know if there's a way of getting the TF to automatically switch to the Asus keyboard setting when you dock it, then back to your preferred screen keyboard when undocked?
I use the Hackers keyboard layout onscreen, which I then have to manually change to Asus when I dock it. Not a big deal, but a bit of a bind (especially because the return key doesn't work if I don't change when I dock!)

[Q] Automatic Keyboard Selection?

Is is possible to configure the TF101 automatically change the keyboard upon connecting/disconnecting the dock?
I want to use the physical keyboard when the tablet is docked. When it isn't docked, I want to use Swype, because the Asus onscreen keyboard just isn't anywhere near as good as Swype.
Another problem I have is, for some strange reason, when using the Asus onscreen keyboard, long pressing the text box doesn't bring up the switch keyboard option. I experienced this today using Evernote, and have seen it in other programs.
Is there a shortcut on the Asus onscreen keyboard to change keyboards (not to another Asus keyboard, but to another installed keyboard)?
If not, is there an widget I can put on the desktop that will toggle between two different keyboards?
I'm afraid that automatic switching of keyboard is not possible. As far as I know the permission which is necessary to change keyboard from other process is not possible to get without platform manufacturer signature (Asus in case of stock Transformer)
For the keyboard switch yo can use a small keybard icon in the notification area.
There is an app to switch keyboards based on orientation. I remember it coming from someone on the N1 subforums. Try looking for it and contacting the dev and see if he's willing to adapt it for the TF.
It does require root though.

[Q] Slide it in combination with the dock

Hi,
I'm a big fan of SlideIT so i installed it on my tab as well.
Now, i'm a belgian user so my keyboard is Azerty. In slideit i can pick an Azerty layout; so far so good.
However, when i plug the tab into the dock (which is also azerty btw), the tab complains that the keyboard should be set to the standard layout to assure consistency with the hardware of the keyboard (but i want to keep using slideit)
unortunately, the end result is that the keyboard now reverts to qwerty mode ... (which is very strange if you think about since both the software (slideit) and hardware (dock) are azerty...
i've solved this partially by editing the keyboard layout file and remapping buttons but only for the most important keys and can't be bothered doing it for all of them...
anyone know of a more elegant solution?
tia

[Q] Keyboard UK

I've done a search, and although the bug with the backspace key on the keyboard dock not working correctly after a JB update I can't find any other posts about the problem I am experiencing.
I have a UK spec 64Gb TF700 bought from Amazon UK that includes the keyboard dock.
I don't like the Asus on screen keyboard and to avoid the annoying backspace bug I prefer to use the Android keyboard. However if I use anything other than the Asus keyboard as default, the '@' key moves to the number '2' key and the number '3' key becomes '#' instead of '£'.
The system and keyboard languages are all set to UK English. I did have Swype installed but have done a complete factory reset to try to cure this annoying problem so now only have the Asus and Android default keyboards showing in Language & Input settings.
The tf700 is stock running JB and not rooted, anyone please put me out of my misery to cure this....?

[Q] turn off/stop virtual keboard when using dock?

Is there a way to stop the virtual keyboard from popping up on screen when it is in the keyboard dock, also is there a way to stop the text I am writing into the stock browser from dissapearing under the full screen keyboard when typing?
Thanks
I couldn't find a way, but I got round it by clicking the v on the bottom menu (Next to home) which closes the onscreen keyboard down. Its a bit of a faff tbh. But at least you can get to type on fullscreen. To see what you're typing, just use the arrow keys/the text tag and scroll down.
Has anyone found a solution to this problem? It is so annoying. Everytime i touch the screen to edit, the virtual keyboard pops up. I use the up/down keyboard Key, below the Enter Key on the virtual keyboard to minimize the virtual keyboard. I have cheked the settings and there is no option to disable the virtual keyboard. Any suggestions anyone?
I don't have a dock but use a bluetooth keyboard from time to time. To avoid the same problem I have installed null keyboard from Google Play store which works well for me.
Works brilliantly thanks just what i was after. I've got the note docked and the keyboard hasn't appeared on screen once while typing this. Only thing i had to do was set it to the default keyboard first in the settings under input.

Samsung Keyboard Dock & Softkey Keyboard

Having owned a Asus Transformer I'm used to how well the hardware keyboard works and particularly how it always disables the softkey keyboard whenever I was using the hardware keyboard.
I've been frustrated with the Samsung Dock in that it never disables the softkey keyboard. Seems any keyboard will force the Note back to the Samsung Keyboard if you have something else selected. I've used Tasker to detect my bluetooth keyboard, delay a few seconds, and then switch to "null keyboard" and then back again to my preferred softkey keyboard when I turn off my bluetooth keyboard.
One problem is that Tasker doesn't have anything that works with detecting the Samsung Keyboard dock. I wish the tablet would just automatically disable the softkey keyboard when I have the OEM keyboard dock attached. Afterall, why would I want both? Besides the annoying use of screen real estate there is some bug where occasionally a popup appears saying "US English" and then I lose whatever keystroke I was typing when that comes up.
Anyone else using the keyboard dock seeing issues like this? Does anyone know of a way to disable the softkey keyboard when I've attached the samsung keyboard dock?
I use External keyboard helper. It should let you switch to a null keyboard when an external keyboard is connected. You still have to choose it as input method by clicking on the pop-up sincd apparently Android does not allow automatic switching for security reasons.
Also, sometimes it wouldn't make the switch back after disconnecting, so I set up a Tasker profile that offers you the choice of input options every time bluetooth keyboard is connected. Now it's just one click to switch it in or off.

Click to collapse
You actually can have Android switch input methods if you have root and are using Tasker. You have to use Secure Settings plugin to do this but it works great. Problem is I just can't get tasker to notice this keyboard (works great with my BT keyboard) and besides the point, I was hoping Samsung would have better integration with their own hardware.
