Here's the article that jwischka was talking about below from Engadget. I was thinking that Honeycomb would support both tablets and smartphones and different screen resolutions since in the video where Andy Rubin showed off the Motorola Tablet, he let it slip that Honeycomb "sort of is and sort of isn't" for phones.

Also some indication today that there will be smartphone support, albeit with a reduced featureset. Hopefully this does not mean our screen resolution will exclude us from tablet Honeycomb.

Hah i just took my nook color back today and ordered a gtab I need a 10" screen though. But i had mine running at 1.1ghz very stable adn VERY snappy.
We don't even have proper hardware acceleration for Gingerbread yet and we're talking about Honeycomb SDK ports - ugh. Come on NVidia, snap to with the drivers!
I'm going to assume nvidia must have some compatible drivers for the tegra 2 for honeycomb already or else the xoom us going to be hobbled out of the box when it comes out

We have a semi-solid gingerbread rom less than 2 months after its release. I would imagine it will be a bit quicker, given the similarities between the internal hardware between the G tab and the various new Terga processor tablets that are coming out, but who knows.
I suspect in the end it will come down to how much effort the devs want to put into making things work for the G tab. With 2 groups of people working on their own roms (Vegan and Cyanogen), I am not sure they'll drop what they're doing to work on a stock honeycomb release.
Hope I'm wrong though.
I would imagine that Roebeet with his TNT lite Roms will have a working Honeycomb as soon as VS team releases their bloatware version.
I am hoping that this is the OTA update that VS hinted at earlier this month.

For an unbias view and ease of applying apps and roms and ease of having apps work properly, which would be best to get? NookColor or a GTab
the screen difference isnt that much of a main concern really

I think that the g-tab has the better hardware (not certain tho). That would be more important i would think.

If the screen isn't an issue, the only answer is the GTab. The hardware specs are better, and nothing about it is locked - you can have a custom rom on the device in less than 5 minutes. It takes longer to download the roms from the internet than it does to put them on the device. This isn't something that's common among devices - often hardware manufacturers lock the bootloader down and make it tricky for users to install custom software - the original root procedure on the EVO required using adb and was far from straightforward, if you weren't technically inclined. By contrast, installation for the GTab involves unzipping a file onto the internal memory and rebooting (slightly more complicated than that, but not much).
I don't know the process on the Nook, but I can't imagine it's simpler than the GTab. The Nook is a proprietary book reader, and B&N is selling them so that you'll buy books and read them - not so you'll hack it into a tablet. They've probably put quite a bit more thought (and if they haven't yet, they're almost certainly about to) into locking the device down.
The main issue with the GTab is the screen. Other than that, it's honestly a very nice piece of hardware, and one that you can be happy with.
Engadget now has a video of it running on the Nookcolor with hardware acceleration. It's so smooth, but there's like no apps i guess since it was built from the SDK preview.

Not only that but if you follow the link to the source you see this...
graphics acceleration more or less working. The SGX driver seems too old for some buffer request of android 3.0, so right now the statusbar is invisible but still functional. Not sure if I can fix that or have to wait for the AOSP release.
What is not working... pretty much everything else, no accelerometer, no wlan, no sound.

I recently bought a Nook Color so I could have an inexpensive tablet. They have froyo roms available for it but it still has issues that I have been fighting constantly. One of the big ones is touchscreen accuracy issues that can get annoying so I'm taking it back and replacing with something different?
How is the dev community when it comes to the Gtab?
Am I correct in thinking since it's based on Tegra 2 that it should be easy to port Honeycomb and such since they are going to be based on the same chipset??

That is what a lot of us are hoping, but the actual situation remains to be seen.
Even without Honeycomb, the G Tab is a fantastic device. The support here is the best as well.
My opinion is go with something that is easy to flash roms on and has some future hardware specs. That's why the g-tab seems to be positioned well. It is super easy to flash and has good hardware.

tbh i got my hands on most android tablets and i'd say...none of em.
Really, android as it is now is quite good as a phone os, but the tablet version really looks like a work in progress: the ui is insanely laggy, especially with some widget on. The browser (main thing on a tablet imo) is laggy and jerky, i can't stand it. Regardless the hardware all of the tablets i tried behave like that. You can even cross your fingers and hope that ics will fix this all, but frankly i stopped trusting google a few lies ago. If you really want a tablet now you either should go for a cheap android thing, like a nook color...otherwise if i were you i'd look at webos based tablets, ipads, or even at the blackberry playbook which isn't all that bad actually.
Xoom would be a good choice, it was laggy with 3.0 but with the 3.1 it is like butter.

Motorola just got through updating some xooms to honeycomb 3.2. If
you can get one of those, the flash card slot now works, making it
much more useful.
xoom with 3.1 is the winner (anyway, far behind the ipad )
Curious as to why you say "Not the Galaxy Tab?"
Samsung Galaxt Tab perhaps or Asus transformer... but there are only few tablet specific apps so I don't find androids tablet useful (for me).
As people said before, Android on tables feel kinda like it did for phones before 2.1
Laggy and slow.
Hardware vise however, I would go for the Asus Transformer.
Feels really nice and not plastic or slippery.
Personally I am gonna wait until Android gets smoother on tablets since I reckon there will be new and better tablets by then.
How happy are you with you TF? I want a 10" tablet and I'm considering the Tf. I'm also considering the Tf prime. The tf1 price will probably come down once the Christmas season is over so now I'm trying to decide on the tf1 or the tf prime.
What I want it to do is be an entertainment device. I'm not using it for spreadsheet or anything like that. I want it to surf the web, watch movies, play games, and in general have fun and kill time with.
What are your thoughts? Are you happy with your purchase?
I have a rooted nook color now and its ok but a little slow sometimes. Anyone have both and can tell me if the Tf is much better?
I have played with a Tf at bestbuy and it seemed laggy at times is this common or was it's memory overloaded with crap from everyone opening different apps all the time?
I love it, with and without the dock. Still I use it only in landscape mode the other mode (what is the name of it?) is slow and laggy indeed... but why would you use that if it is designed for landscape....
I haven't tried any costum rom YET but the video's I saw are fast and very smooth! Check some video's of it, it's called "revolver" rom. Also I think android ICS (4.0) will be much better with dual cores, it's still in "beta" the dual core support...
I originally got it to do one or two things but I've found I have used it a lot more and for a lot more things than I had originally planned. I did get the dock with it, but to be honest it's not something I have really used much yet. Overall I love it and haven't regretted buying it. The wife has stole it on more than one occasion as well. The only lag I've noticed is using in Portrait mode or when using Live wallpaper, but it's not particularly bad, and something that an overclock may fix.
I love it. The only gripe is the fingerprints on the screen but then they all suffer from that. I would not even think about moving to the Prime - this does everything I need and at a reasonable speed and with good battery life. I started out with the Stock ROM but have been on the Revolution ROM for ages. I did not buy the dock (and would not have used it). I use it for ebooks, magazines, mobile email, mobile document editing and a bit of multimedia. To be honest, though, most of my music is on itunes (which i listen to on my iphone - the size is much more convenient) and I tend to watch films on the television!
PS - @Cmdrx3 - with overclocking, there is no lag at all and little effect on battery life.
The overal experience is not always smooth as butter but it's nothing like you can experience when you try an démo model in a store. I don't know what people are doing with those devices but that's not at all how my transformer works.
Now, I'm perfectly happy with my transformer (with dock) there is no major flaw that would make my regret my buy.
But, it's a first version of a product, It was en experimentation from Asus, a brillant one, but still, the transformer have flaws. there is some build hiccup, the screen is good but not perfect, the typing suffer from lagging on some website and it's difficult to watch high definition movie without reencoding first, the microphone is ****ty and cams pretty bad too.
So, my advice, If you can afford it, take the Prime with keyboard dock (the dock is awesome, it's not just a keyboard it's a all in one accesorie, case / screen protection / stand up dock / keyboard / extra battery / additionnal port (I also heard there 's an additionnal speaker in the prime dock for an even better sound, but i'm not sure).
It's looking to be a much much much better device than the original transformer and you won't feel like you bought an already outdated device.
If you can't afford it, i'm pretty sure the first Transformer is still a really good deal, especially if you can find it really cheap. And with the addition of ice Cream sandwich it should get a second youth.
I am very happy with my ASUS Transformer. Support is also good. I am not happy with Android OS. Looks more like smartphone OS on steroids on a big screen, rather than fully functional tablet OS. Browser crashes and it's not smooth. Most apps do not resize properly.
It's a good device for casual browsing and palying some games, but when it comes to doing some work it's not very comfortable. The dock also it's not very usefull. I am having problems writing on my native language (there is no stock keyboard layout). Most of the apps are not optimised to work with keyboard.
I hope ICS makes tablets fully functional. Still my TF looks like a fancy toy.
I can't agree with above comment. I do think honey comb is great and i do work with the tablet and dock in the school and it does a decent job. Of course it could do better especially as i take pics as notes on the blackboard, so higher res camera would help. All in all i am very satisfied with the tab.

guys, my first tab was a scroll 7inch tab, then a hannspad, now to this, so iv went from cheap tab to decent tab to expensive tab, so my enjoyment has went from not too good to not bad, to effing amazing, i luckily havnt had any bad experiences with this tab, compared to so many tabs, it is in a league of its own .

10/10 now it is rooted. It's like it is on steroids using the revolver rom. 8/10 for the stock rom as i had 2 probs, laggy keyboard on the web browser and web browser closing unexpectedly. Both solved now.
I'm 10/10 with my TF101 and will stay that way as long as their is a line of successor products (Android based NOT Windows 8). That way when it really is upgrade time, I can retire my TF101 and get the current latest and greatest. Other wise I'll have to switch back to a netbook or go pure tablet, once my TF101 is to old.

You could wait for the Prime.
I'm a TF Owner for 6 months now. I was one of the biggest haters of tablets but count me as converted. I love my TF and can't see myself using any other tablet.

Multi tasking is great but our does depend on the number of apps running in the background. But you can easily switch between running apps.
I love this tablet, I an do glad that I opted for the TF instead of the galaxy tab. I use it for hours everyday... Everything from watching hd movies, streaming media, writing invoices and proposals for my business (via quickbooks mobile app) view all my school books with course smart, web surf etc... I barely use my pc our laptop anymore, and when I do need to 50% of the time I remotely operate them with my TF via splash top HD.
Worth every penny I paid. I will get the prime in a few months, but I'll wait til development is established.

I don't want to sound overly negative but this phone...cons
Very little ROM support
Stock is MySense 3.0 which is watered down Sense 3.0 and sucks
The dual cores don't seem to fire like they should...my MT4G was faster and only one core..
Keyboard is flat and hard to type....
Pros....
Hmmm Camera is cool....
some love the tv out....
and it should get 4.0
Love it. I amazing build quality, amazing camera, amazing keyboard. Sense launcher sucks and stock it sucks but with a rom its awesome.

Only two devs actually working on this device (Undeadk9 and Kornyone)
No stable CyanogenMod builds yet
Stock ROM is almost pure bloatware
Well I think this phone is pretty snappy myself.
Undeadk9 has created a very stable Rom with an aosp feel and minimum sense just for the dialer and camera, which is perfect for me atleast.
Undeadk9 also is the first to get gpu ui rendering on any rom, so the phone is finally using the most out of its great hardware specs. I think the dual cores are perfect already, but once we get ics, I think the phone will fully utilize both cores

Pretty good phone. Easy to root. New version of Bulletproof coming out soon.
I had been using a G1 from the start and took some doing for me to switch. Tried 2 different g2s that didn't work.
I really like the G1 keyboard but am getting used to the 4g slide's.
Only draw back is I work in a roaming area during the week and have trouble getting and making calls. Network problems with T-mobiles "roaming" partner network.

Not quite true - the pre-1.0 version of Bulletproof had hardware rendering set as the default behavior, which I removed for the 1.0 release, and that was a while ago.

I love this device, it's fantastic. Beefy hardware and a nice, smaller package, the capabilities of the device we are opening up is fantastic.
love the keyboard, aftermarket anker battery makes the package, and some nice cases out for it now.
Hardware rendering is a bit buggy, and i'm pretty sure it's a kernel issue that can be addressed - i've been studying this problem since about the middle of august and will start to address the issue in another week or so.
It works fine on the phone itself, but once you start using the TV-out function of the phone it gets weird at times.
If nto using hardware decoding, though, playing video games and watching movies on a TV is a fantastic feature without having to carry around the bulky MHL adapter some phones need, and the screen stays active which means you can use it as a controller for whatever you are playing on the TV.
Love the phone, you probably will too if you pick one up.

Okay, cool. Before this phone came out I wanted it so bad, but for some reason I just forgot about it haha.
And oh, no CM? My I have it installed on my Cliq2 and I love it. The more custom roms the better haha
Edit: nevermind, just looked at the development section and saw there was a CM rom.

I like it, Im getting used to the keyboard, but it works. The Bulletproof rom is nice and snappy, feels good in my hands.. its a nice improvement over the 3g slide I used to have.
It has a lot of nice features that will be amazing once rom devs (like Blue6IX) tweek the kernel further
And its one of the few dual core phones with a slide out keyboard.
kornyone got himself added to the CM team by porting the majority of it to this device.
He released a rough alpha version of CM7 for the device, which was freakin' awesome! - just with the release of ICS by Google the entire CM crew is working around the clock to get ICS ported back to older devices, so the CM7 project for this device got shelved for a bit.
Because kornyone was interested in this device enough to go ahead and start getting CM7 ported to it, i'd like to think that puts this phone in a good position to get whatever ICS goodness they are working on.
I'm a bug fan of their work, I run CM7 on my Nook Color and love it - it's amazing what they've done.
For this device, personally, i'm preferring to work with Sense, which I know doesn't appeal to everyone. Once ICS hits the phone I think it'll be important to maintain a Sense option for people who would prefer to keep some of the proprietary technologies they've paid for (like TV-out).
I dunno, I bought a second one of these phones for development purposes, so if that says anything about how much I like it
i like the phone a lot as well, and i just can't get myself to flash CyanogenMod on it, haha(i have a G2 for that ). i personally feel HTC did a good job on this Mysense... even on stock, everything seems to work, and it looks great. granted i haven't used tv-out yet, and it sounds like the playback isn't stellar.... yet. the phone also doesn't seem as blazing fast as one might expect, but it is fast enough. i look forward to trying the next release of Bulletproof because it sounds like Blue61x has slimmed it down, while maintaining stability and all the Sense goodies.

Agreed. I own this since a few days. Its fast as hell...I'm using it with cm7, its working pretty well with it, except the cm7 has 720p video recording only. I'm okay with that. Otherwise its one of the best phones with keyboard. The screen resolution tho is a bit lagging behind the current best ones, but at least this phone fits well in the pocket.

I'm thinking about getting this phone when I get my discount next month. I've had a chance to handle it a couple times, really like the feel of the slider, and the camera is just great(especially when compared to other HTC phones before it)!
It also looks like there's a couple great devs working on it. I'm following Blue's threads and I'm very impressed, plus korny seems to be making great progress with ICS.

Personally this phone kicks ass. I have both a Sensation, and HD2 along side this baby. The sound quailty is amazing. I kick back, and relax to some biggie all the time. The screen is WVGA, not as clear as a qHD but is still good. The keyboard is much better than the Q2. I need a hardware keyboard since I text the Wife constantly, and its never let me down. The Duel Core shows off its power along side the 220 gpu. Speaker is load, performance is gooood. I use this over my sensation all the time.
But there's not many ROMs for it Xo there's more ROMs by the banished one on rootzwiki. Bulletproof is a good mysense rom, but there's a lot of neet roms. Where getting a true sense 3.0 rom soon. This phone is a must buy.

The stock Sense version is true Sense 3.0, not sure what you mean by this?
Maybe you are thinking Sense 3.5?
The phone is a beast on the spec sheet, but the stock rom is a bloated mess. If you're willing to root it, and freeze some of the bloat, stock isn't bad.
The keyboard is not as good as the MT3GS's, but I'm sure that was a tradeoff for the better specifications.
Basically, if you want a high end phone with a keyboard, there really just aren't many alternatives. I'm hoping we get some sort of ICS ROM (either cyanogen or HTC), as that'd extend the phone's life at least another year.

Thanks a lot for the info - I just ordered the phone. I'm really impressed with Android on the HD2, but I really miss a hw kbd and having a great camera (and the extra ROM and RAM don't hurt either!)
To Blue61x, maybe he means a regular Sense ROM not the T-Mo modified "My-Sense" (for example w/o shortcuts on lock screen)?
I just got this phone today! I am loving it. So far. The hw keys a little hard to work with, that's about it though. Otherwise.this thing is a beast!! I love it. Came from a SGS4, big difference. That phone was so slow!!.o waving bye bye to it now. Had.a mytouch 4 h before and mt3h slide before that..o also had a cliq .and a.blackberry 9700. ........
