[Q] Empty Baseband after using LG Update Tool fixable? - T-Mobile LG G2x

When I used the LG Update Tool on my unrooted phone to get the newly released Gingerbread update, it appeared to work as expected, I even got an update was successful screen. The phone definitely has the new Gingerbread update, but something must have gone wrong because I have no connection other than wireless. The baseband field is empty on my phone.
Steps I took with no result: factory reset, new SIM from T-Mo. I tried the instructions for how to boot into recovery, but either I don't understand or that is broken on my phone, because holding the power button and volume down at the same time does nothing but start up as usual no matter how long it is held.
Even T-Mo couldn't get it connected to their network and just handed it back to me with a "call LG" comment. They would not do anything further because the update didn't come from them.
After much reading here I do not find similar posts, because mine did not get stuck at a software update screen, but rather went from start to finish in less than 10 minutes.
Is there any hope to fix this, or is my only recourse to send it off to LG?
Thanks for any suggestions.

I am having the same issue, i posted a thread before i knew what a baseband was i hope that it can be reverted. LG offered to fix it at my cost for shipping. in any case the thread i created is here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1181952 hoping someone posts something.

Just read your thread. Similar issue, but it sounded like you were rooted when you did the first LG update? I had a stock phone, never rooted, and had this happen. LG tech support felt it was due to the heavy load on their servers when everyone found out about the update and some glitch happened during my update. Just my luck. I've packed my phone off to LG for repair (hopefully not a replacement). Hope you have better luck.

you should have tried factory reset, then use kdz updater to reflash. and.....you need to use nvflash to get back to cwm recovery. you sent it back to lg? ugh

I see now I have to get educated on using Android to learn about all this flashing stuff. Yes, sadly, I have sent my phone off to LG. Hopefully I will have it back and working within a month. Meanwhile I will have a lot of time for reading. The one-click tutorials are great, but they don't really help to understand what is going on. I think I need a deeper knowledge. Thanks for taking the time to reply, it's appreciated.

you've got the same mindset i do. oneclick tools are great. but i like learning the hard way. i've used nvflash many times. it's great . but sometimes drivers on windows get corrupted. after flashing the new gb leak, my nvflash gave me issues reflashing clockwork mod recovery. so, i tried oneclick flasher,it worked. so it's always good to have as many tools available in your arsenal.

Has anyone fixed their empty baseband yet? I updated seemingly without any problem earlier today, but after booting into Gingerbread, I have a blank baseband!

has anyone tried running the kdz flasher again and see if they can reflash the kdz file, thus reflashing the baseband?

So I have a couple of stupid questions. I updated tonight with the LG updater tool. Guess what? no baseband. I tried the kdz flasher but I couldn't even get it to work. stupid question. phone on or off? I am assuming on because that's how the updater worked(or didn't LOL). i am going to NVflash and see if I can get something back. Oh wait. that was only one stupid question. ahhh... worse case scenario, can I just wait for a flashable baseband?

Maris- I to used the update on my unrooted phone but everything is working fantastic. When you did the update did the LG Updater download to your computer? Mine did and I plug in my phone every day to check its system and it says everything is up to date and running most current version.

Yes, it went through each tab on the updater just fine. I thought it stalled at 4%, but after a few minutes it moved on. In approx. 10 minutes, a success window opened so I unplugged my phone from the computer and thought it was working great. Everything looked ok, and in the settings I saw the GB version. That's when I noticed no baseband. I then noticed WiFi calling wasn't enabled, and when I tried to turn it on, it couldn't read the SIM, so I thought my SIM got damaged somehow.
The local store gave me a new SIM and we tried several resets, both on the phone and in their system, but nothing worked. LG Tech Support thinks a glitch happened because their servers were extremely busy with everyone downloading the update. Hopefully they will do the update while they have the phone for repair.

I tried it last night and am having the same issues as you.
I am hoping someone can post directions(or point me too a post) for kdz flasher. I can't get it to recognize my phone and I want to see if I am doiing it right... and when I try using the LG update tool it starts fine but then has trouble communicating with the phone.
Ugggh. I am at a loss...

Only trick I've heard of for KDZ flasher is to do it in a 32-bit environment. If you're running a 64-bit OS, try getting a virtual machine with XP 32-bit running. Other than that, I have no experience on the matter.

Worked for me on Win 7 64bit

I don't know what happened... I tried to reflash the kdz file this morning, update went through but still no baseband... then tried from the beginning seemed to not work, something about drivers, but when I booted up GB and the new baseband! I did it for the GPS lock, but so far seems same ole, same ole... All I know I went from having a cell phone that wouldn't make calls to having an operable phone again. you cant see it right now but I am dancing a jig! well hopefully by next weekend we will have an official GB...

[FIX] LG-p999dwp upgrade to GB-V21E

Ok I have the LG-P999dwp version, and was in unable to do the update through the lg updater. Was told that i have latest version. I am also running win7 ultimate and the KDZ program would always crash, so i found a work around.
I downloaded the LG kdz program and the V21_00.Kdz file You can get them from here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179750 here are pics to help you do this on a windows 7 ultimate and should work for any version of win 7.
The pictures show you what to do.
1: open the KDZ program ( follow the instructions in the read me )
then keep the cdma and DIAG alone and choose the browse and click on the V21E_00.KDZ file.
Sorry if this has been posted but i searched and could not find anything on how to do this. I was working out a few ways to do this on win 7 without installing win xp
2:Click on read phone information at the bottom of the program.
3:Click on Upgrade Start
4:Change country to different country and change Language to english
5:click ok and this opens up the LG updater and will push the update of GB to your phone on windows 7 machine and for phone with LG-P999dwp model # (aka refurb)
thank you soo much!
Works!!! Just follow the steps exactly. My wife has a p999dwp and I have a p999dw. Ive been trying to get Gingerbread on hers for two days now (the official way). I can now find one complaint about the update, I love it. I haven't used Bluetooth yet though. Thanks so much.
Thanks... Worked perfectly....
Just in case anyone wants to know .... I put my phone back to stock and unrooted before I did the update process.... Everything went smooth, update process took about 10 minutes.. Thanks again Bullseye....
I can't get into S/W Update mode now to flash ClockworkMod ???
EDIT: Never mind...had to try it a bunch of times (volume down and plugging in) before it worked
see my only problem is everytime i try to install the lg updater tool it stops quarter of the way and doesnt move, i have a windows 7
how did u guys get the update tool to install, i run it as administrator and it starts but then stalls quarter of the way? and it told me i had to install the tool , but then i just tryed launching the update and it started the process, of course i didnt try with the phone plugged in, what do u guys think
It doesn't even want to read my phone info....it gives me Get Chiptype Error. Tried with Debug mode too-still nothing. It keeps freezing on me....I am running Win7 Ultimate 64bit.
Anyone else having the same issues. I have all the drivers installed.

yes sir , for sure so sincest your talking about the lg update tool ur telling me i have to install it with the phone actually plugged in?
doesnt really matter, i had it unplugged till the window like the screenshot came up, try reinstalling the 3.x.x drivers from LG theres a thread somewhere and then plug your device in a different usb porn and wait for it all to install
It doesn't work for me guys. Tried reading the phone info as advised-it can't complete the operation. I get the stupid error and nothing happens. Don't know how to go around that error. Tried running the R&D tool in compatabilty mode and still got the same error.

Try rebooting your PC and reinstalling it... Only thing I did was downloaded the LG updater the other day and reinstalled it ... after it installed I connected my phone and it installed some drivers...

[GUIDE] Recovering from brick/bootloop

So there have been a spate of people bricking their O3Ds lately... this is the last ditch method to recover your phone if you can't boot into Android, or CWM. No guarantees, but should work so long as your phone is still detected.
Download SmartFlash, then the corresponding packages for your phone:
---P920---
Baseband: http://d-h.st/xci
Baseband Mirror: http://goo.gl/yDnjP
Rom: http://d-h.st/WTE
Rom Mirror: http://goo.gl/UfG85
---P925---
Baseband: http://d-h.st/EBF
Baseband Mirror: http://goo.gl/mdLBn
Rom: http://d-h.st/gTO
Rom Mirror: http://goo.gl/auYkj
Extract smartflash.zip, install both driver packages. Then, run Windows Enabler, in the notifications bar, click it and make sure it is set to 'on'.
If you downloaded the rom from my dev-host link, unzip the .bin file.
Now remove your phone's battery and sim card, press volume up and connect your phone to the computer. Hold volume up until it is detected by the computer. It should take no longer than 20 seconds.
Now run B_SmartFlashTool_Extern.exe, go to rom copy d/l, select LGP920_CP.fls or LGP925_CP.fls for CP bin and LGP920_AP.bin or LGP925_AP.bin for AP bin, depending on your phone model. Make sure under communications setup that your phone is connected (verify the com port in device manager) and then click start. If all goes well, you'll have a working phone on v21E (P920) or v20P (P925) stock

Thanks for the links! However your P925 V20P baseband link is down. Can we get a mirror?
There was this one already, I used this method countless times. It's basically the same thing, but uses LG flashing software and kdz files, which are easier to find, download and flash. You can also use the marwin one with windows enabler and the hosts file tweak (that's what I use on a win7 x64 machine). I can't get why it hasn't been stickied or something...

Yes I know of that one, however it requires you to download so many pieces of software and block LG in the hosts file. This also works on all windows based systems and does not require just XP. Furthermore, if you're phone is bricked, Marwin wont work if your phone is bricked as your phone needs to be turned on and within Android. This is the simpler method to recover your phone without too much fuss.

Actually it does, just last night I used Marwin to flash the phone while it was in emergency mode, download mode (as I knew it when I had the LG gt540) or whatever it's called (volume up, plugged in, detected as a modem). It's not the first time either.
As for which option is simpler, I guess I have to try smartflash, because I don't know why i had this idea that it's a complicated and unstable piece of software

In any case, try flashing CWM and see if its able to wipe the partition for you.

Just flashed the bin with LGFlashTool and this time everything works as expected, so it seems that smartflash is not doing a great job. Maybe it's not catching some errors? LGFlashTool wouldn't flash the files if they were stored on the network, but smartflash never complained.
Getril still says RIL/baseband don't match, but this time the baseband shows as LGP920AT-00-V21e

Problem after Unroot

I tried to root my phone (tmobile g2x) to Eaglesblood ICS rom...the rooting went well but couple of functions didnt work after the root (like home button and no Google play/android market, call didnt work either).
So i decided to go back to my original Stock room 2.3.3 gingerbread..since i forgot to back up...i download the stock rom from Modaco. Then I installed gingerbread 2.3.3.
Now everything works well BUT whenever I try to call...I hear this loud irritating static sound and I dont hear anything else....Please can anyone help me out...this is frustrating!
what baseband are you on?
what modaco rom cause he usually builds for Euro phones (p990)

You'll want to flash V21E_00.kdz to your phone. This is the old 2.3.3 gingerbread with the July 15 2011 baseband. Thanks to overground for this!
For some reason the KDZ program crashes after i click "upgrade start". Does it work only on windows XP? because i m using windows 7
BTW, my brother has the exact tmobile g2x, if I backup his phone and use that backup to restore my phone, will that upgrade my baseband and everything?

If you nandroid your brother's phone and restore to your phone you will not get his baseband. The thread does say that Windows XP is necessary, perhaps Windows XP Mode in Windows 7 would work but I've never done any of this so I can make no guarantees.
This thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1610597 has a procedure with which a few people running Windows 7 x64 have had success. Read this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25118883&postcount=4 and you might be successful. Like I said, I've never done this. I'm just giving the information. I can make no guarantees.

Thanks! Any chance you have a copy of the 5d firmware, too?

Thanks. I just reflashed 10d (my mistake when I said 5d) with LGUP and uppercut. I guess you can't boot to TWRP without having flashed it first or something so I'm as good as I can be for now. Hope your issue clears up.
I realized I used a wrong command to flash boot instead of recovery.
Fortunately, I saved the 10d full ROM and I just flash it with LGUP and use correct command and install Magisk again. However, I had to wipe the machine due to mistake, but I have a backup a month ago so data loss isn't that bad.
10d seems to be a bit faster.
Full ROM + dll + instruction how to copy.

Thank you Soo much. I just got my 3 plus and in less than 24 hrs managed to f it off completely. My girl was talking to me and I was only paying half attention to what I was doing and wiped everything. No OS of course and I had just gotten it flashed with twrp. Needless to say I feel like an idiot because I hadn't gotten a good backup. I have the .lbf from my PC but I couldn't get bridge to recognize my phone. Lg up would but I need .kdZ

DLL says it's invalid. Anyone been able to use it successfully?
Edit: Nvm. I just had to reinstall UP (messing with DLLs from flashing other models screwed it up, I'm guessing). Worked great after
alright I have flashed the kdz file from multiple souces including this one, nothing changes on my end says completed but nothing changes, except an error message everytime I open up any app says App Updates has stopped it's getting annoying, my camera is not as good anymore either its more of a blur than anything, what do I have to do to restore this phone back to original settings and original software where I start completely over, this kdz did not do that it kept my apps, it kept everything and then gave me that error
LGUP I could only do upgrade not refurbish it just does not take it as a refurbish something with the file structure I think but that's the only option it would let me do

plug in your phone, unzip this and you will see 2 lgup icons (red). right click on the developer("D" on it) icon and choose run as administrator. notice i skipped uppercut. if you do it this way it is not needed. you have many more choices. it is even possible to put the os of one model running the same hardware into another effectively changing the model. there is no device check. If lgup refuses to do something, close it and boot it up again. Sometimes it helps.
