Moved to general as not android development
that page has been there for some time, it is now gone
I couldn't find any other info on it - But being that the post was just made this morning, I'm still excited...
saw this too, but the page it linked to (which is pulled now btw) was actually a direct copy/paste of the 2.2 update for the Vibrant when I saw it last night. The cached version here still has all the tmobile references.
Maybe try to go back to stock and give kies a try.

How did you get Kies to recognize your phone? I haven't been able to do that since the update to JH7.

I have to put it in debugging mode to get Kies Mini to see it. I have no idea what impact that may have on actually upgrading though. I'm stock Eclair BTW.

Towards the bottom in they have mobitv renamed to t-mobile tv.
Maybe they realized the error and pulled it.

LOL. Samsung's/AT&T's never ending ineptitude provides quite a bit of comic relief. I mean...really, how hard is it to push an update? I remember getting OTA updates on my G1 without issue. Has nothing been learned since then?

I don't know how I missed that? Thanks though.
It had this sentence at the bottom too:
* What are risks for performing the upgrade?
o This upgrade has been thoroughly tested by Samsung and AT&T to be compatible with Captivate devices running previous versions of the released software. Customers who are running unsupported operating systems (e.g. those that are rooted or have not been received from T-Mobile and Samsung) should move forward at their own risk.

LOL, FIND ALL "T-Mobile" REPLACE WITH "AT&T" it's that easy.... or one would think....
I checked Kies Mini and nothing. Blah!
Ehh ...
The probability of Samsung/AT&T releasing something better than what you can find here at XDA is extremely low. The devs here at XDA are probably more familiar with the phone than Samsung or AT&T anyway, as they have actually been working with it these past few months.
I'm actually a bit surprised that there isn't an XDA branded phone by now.

Just a friendly little anecdote for you. Do with it what you will...
I worked tech support in a call center for a large mobile provider and was terminated for posting on forums after they managed to link me to some posts I had made. They did this by monitoring network traffic in the building, which lead them to my computer since I was posting them while at work. I was fired for the content of the posts, although they were all completely harmless, such as your post. They felt I was divulging proprietary information.
For a long time I kicked myself for posting on the forums with my work computer, but really I should have been kicking myself for posting at all, from any device. In the end, just ask yourself if the risk is worth the reward.
Now, the bright side of this, 6 months later I landed a great job as a network admin for a great company.
Oh and about that company I used to work for, their name started with a T and ended with a Mobile.

I think you're missing the bigger point here. As I said in the post, the conclusion I made in the end was that it really wasn't worth it to post at all, regardless of where I was posting. They could just as easily linked me to the posts using other methods, such as overhearing something, or someone tattling. Or maybe I became facebook friends with someone on the forums, and they reported me. There are plenty of ways.
Nevertheless, I did say to do what you will with the story. But seriously, consider the whole risk vs. reward part of it. What are you really getting out of posting small bits of 'insider' information? Probably not much. And believe me, I didn't think I was divulging anything proprietary, but it didn't matter what I thought. My posts were almost identical to yours. I wish someone had said this to me back then (even though I landed a better job in the end).
Anyhow, good luck to you. You probably won't get burned like I did, but as they say... **** happens.
Can someone explain why a rooted phone will not work with the OTA? Is having CWM also an issue? What do I need to do to prepare my phone before the update arrives?
I also do not understand why TMo would not publish the update on their site like they do with all the windows phones.

Absolutely right. I later learned that I wasn't the first to be terminated for posting, and I'm sure I won't be the last.
In my last comment I mentioned that I wish someone had given me this bit of 'advice' long ago, but come to think of it, someone pretty much did. I distinctly remember someone replying to me one day and saying that they know other employees had gotten in trouble for posting. I brushed it off just like this guy/gal.

You need to revert back to stock for the update. This is because the update is designed to build on the stock OS, not whatever you have on your phone. As far as rooting it and leaving it stock, not sure what the root does to block the ota.

I can't be positive, but perhaps its not so much rooted as flashed with another ROM. I've heard of rooted phones being updated. I've not heard of cooked ROMs being updated.
But, I know nothing for sure.
I don't know if this means anything other than what it says. But I have tried to connect to get software update and it keeps giving me the old can't connect at this time message. Could it be that the servers on their end are overwhelmed with others trying to do the update if it is indeed out?
And another question...I am not a T-Mo suscriber. I use Simple Mobile. Would the update get pushed to my G2x or would I have to manually install it? Thanks
Thanks guys. I am running rooted stock and stayed that way on purpose so I could get the update. I also stayed stock because my phone runs like a champ. Never had a reboot and everything works as intended.
You are probably better off waiting a few days to let our developers get a hold of it anyway.

When there are 'Official' releases to multiple carriers, then each carrier would get a push, based on their own agreements with LG. If the phone is a regionally sold phone, also called unbranded, a push is made to them also. Most commonly, you see the unbranded phones get the update first, since the carrier testing does not have to be done.
But, in reality..it is all a crap shoot....so you're still waiting, no matter what.
Anyone have any solid information on this though? There are just too many threads of "I just heard the GB update..." with no solid ROM information or even a picture.

So, I was wondering....where does one go to get 'solid' information? We're here in a community forum, using fake names. More than half of us can't vote, work in a burger king or in college. We all have a tendency to read and search and google/bing about the G2x.
I for 1 couldn't tell solid information from rumor. I will say this though...if the information you have, comes from Twitter, Android Police, TMONEWS, or anything with a 'Forum' in front of it....its a rumor. If your great news starts with, " I just talked to a TMobile CS...." its a rumor. If you just talked to your friend, who works in a store or is a TMobile CS agent, its a rumor.
You'll either get an OTA on your phone, and recieve the update which you can prove with a screen shot. Or you'll plug into the LG support tool and update, which you can validate again, with screenshots...
All else is rumors. Please post all rumors in the HTC Sensation forum...where they are living the dream.
I'd thought I'd share this nice information with everyone....
I currently have the LGP999DWP and like others I had to use the alternate route to get the LG Updater to do the update.
I tried following a guide here for Windows 7 and right in the middle of the update it failed and left me in a limbo state (not me but my phone) of S/W Upgrade.
I tried again with XP in VMWare only to have both the KDZ and LG Update Tool crashed during the update.
So I got tired of trying and decided to just send it off to TMobile and get a new refurb, WRONG CHOICE!!!!
Once tech support heard I did the update BAM! voided warranty. So as of now they will no longer swap my unit again because I installed software not approved by TMobile.
When I explained that LG sent me the update and why was I being punished for LG's doing, they told me "That's LG, we're TMobile so from this point on any trouble with your phone consult LG not us."
So be aware anyone (I'm guessing LGP999DW as well) updating and having trouble DO NOT let Tmobile know.
And it's things like this that is making me move to Sprint again.
I'm beginning to think I should just go back to paper cups and string.
Here is a video that may help!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JmvCpR45LKA
This was discussed a while back that there are people having issues with the update and not to do it if you that version hardware.
Also T-Mobile nor LG sent this update out either. The great people here on xda found a way to try and get software earlier then designated as well. LG didn't say here go install this on your phone. Was taken on your own actions and is your fault.
You at this point would need to let LG try and repair the device and send it back despite the cost if any.
This is sadly the side effect that can come from using leaked unofficial software. Has been posted many times.

LG sent it via THEIR tool all I did was do a manual update via their tools & software, no rooting involved.
Granted it was my fault for doing it, but how many people used the LG tool to update only to get where I was? From what I saw online many people were/are in my boat so it's not just isolated to rooting/hacking/circumventing/or anything else of that nature. LG f'ed up and the customer gets the shaft because of it.
On a side note I did manage to fix it via another thread here, but the point of this thread was not asking for help but to let those who had reservations on doing to be aware that TMobile will void your warranty if they find out you updated in any capacity outside of their official OTA.

its jsut they cleared the phones and put on the os again and added that nice little P to the end to show it was refurbished
which sucks since people only returned the phone because it was defective and now they are stuck with a model marked as refurbished which like a used car decreases resale value.
and it appears all they did was take returned phones place this new os on and sent them out again.
LG and T-Mobile in all their wisdom have yet unleased another G2X model number upon the world. It is being supported by the LG Update program for rom updates also. Some people reported that TMO was giving this model away at a Chicago trade event and on a Twitter contest. Is the illusive white model? Or is is just the same same we have now with another label slapped on its insides? It would be interesting to know what the actual differences are between the model numbers. I will begin.
LG-P999DW - Original released version that most people have.
LG-P999DWP - One of the units reportedly a refurbished unit. But how does it differ from the LG-P999DWDU?
LG-P999DWDU - Another reportedly refrubished unit. Again, how does it differ, if at all, from the LG-P999DWP refurb units.
LG-P999WA - The new mysterious designation supposedly given out as freebies. Is there any hardware differences between previous models. Why oh why another hardware designation for the same device? Any of you with one of these bad boys/girls (gender neutral device for the PC crowd) let us know if you have discovered any differences between what you have and what we have.
Any other model deisgnators out there for the same hardware we have all come to love, loathe, adore, hate, etc.
Thanks TMO and LG. You gave us something else to talk and ruminate about while we are waiting for you to step up and give us 2.3.6 and then ICS (we love Ice Cream).
Thanks for this. I was wondering which was which the other day buy didn't feel like reading through other threads

The battery cover tells you nothing. They are all labeled P999, even P990s. The only way to tell is to connect your device to the LG Updater. It will connect to the device and tell you which model number you have. You are okay as long as you don't press the "start update" button.

So anyway, how can I find out which model I have under the updater tool? I plug it in and it detects it, but doesn't tell me which model I have anywhere. Should I be looking somewhere specific?

Nevermind, I guess you need to be running stock or OTA firmware for the updater tool to tell you what model you have. I tried with Cyanogenmod flashed and it told me there was an update but it wouldn't say what I have

I think the problem is no one has it, and can't seem to get a copy of it.
Well I tried twice today to get someone to slip up and let me get the file. They are very helpful until asking for that firmware, then they don't know anything. Seems like they want to act like it doesn't even exist.
Where do I find the firmware version? Build number reads vralf2.
We don't have it, but we are looking for it.
It almost looks like it is probably a first beta build that was out before the phone was released for testers.
Chances are if that is the case, you probably don't want it as everything about it probably sucks. Only way you would get it, too, would probably be if someone still had that firmware and/or when they did, did a dump of all the partitions.
Could be wrong, but that is my vote.
