Hey everyone,
For those who have a refurbished G2x or simply are getting the authentication error when checking for update on 2.2, follow this guide: http://support.t-mobile.com/thread/2576?tstart=0
It updated my baseband and I was able to flash a rooted GB rom.
Any questions, let me know.
PS.: Do it on your own risk.

Did you try install the new rom again? Sometimes this problems happen because a not good instalation.
OTA update won't work when your android device rooted, you need to full unroot first to get OTA update
