CIFS module for STOCK Honeycomb 3.2 rooted Xoom? - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone know how to get CIFS working with rooted stock 3.2 honeycomb without installing different roms/kernels?
I'm guessing I just need a cifs.ko module that was compiled for 3.2, but have not come across a working version for stock 3.2.

Have you tried pulling the one from the tiamat 2.0 kernel and pushing it? Also, if your rooted, why not just flash the tiamat kernel?

I ended up installing tiamat katana 2.0 which has the supported module included. I might go back and see if cifs.ko could be pushed on stock. I was getting errors from an older version which I tried first.

Tiamat help

Hi, a little confused on how 2 install tiamat on my uk xoom 3g.
Basically I followed this guide and rooted my xoom, i flashed using the boot the op listed. - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1049901
Ok, now I am looking at tiamat 1.4.1 and it mentions tiamat boot files and tiamat kernels.
My question is this, can I just install tiamat 1.4.1 kernel using CWM on an SDcard, will it work with the boot file i flashed on the site listed above or do I need to flash a tiamat boot file and will this be compatable with the UK 3G XOOM
So confusing.
Anyone please help. Thank you

Use this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=978013
Download the kernel of your choice and one of the two boot images for Verizon 3G. Reports in the thread say it works just fine for Euro 3G as well.
Put both the new kernel and the boot image on your external SD card. Flash the new boot image and then the new kernel in CWM, then reboot. That is all there is to it.
many thanks thats helped quite a bit, one more thing though, it says boot image is for android 3.1 only, the uk xooms have 3.0.1.
I am looking here http://bigrushmods.com/tiamat.html
to download kernel 1.4.2
and then i just download the 3g boot image below it?
Thank!!!

Ah...yes you would need to upgrade to 3.1 first. Either use one of the methods found in the forum (such as http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1089695) or wait until the Euro upgrade reaches the UK.
Ok, so there is not way I can get taimat on 3.0.1? I have read and people have done this. Just need to find how.
So if I flash just the kernel without the tiamat boot file will that work? Its rooted and unlocked.
:S
sorry for all the questions, just this is so confusing for a new user.
Cheers mate much appreciated

No the kernel is for 3.1. You will need to upgrade to 3.1 first, one way or another.

For instance:
http://www.xoomforums.com/forum/motorola-xoom-development/3068-kernel-tiamat-1-4-1-3-0-1-only.html
That version will work on 3.0.1.
So can I flash that version of kernel without the taimat boot file?
Or is there a version of boot file that works on the 3.0.1.
Thanks for helping clearing this up for me.

On the Xoom forum search for tiamat 1.3.1 and follow the instructions for flashing it. That will give you SD support and overclocking with android 3.0.1.
Then if you wish to, flash tiamat 1.4.1 according to instructions on zoom forum.
No new boot image is needed for either, it appears.

Right, i tried flashing the 1.3.1 taimat as suggested and it locked up at dual core screen again.
So i took a stab in the dark and went straight to install the 1.4.1 from micro sd and its working fine, wifi, 3g and its overclocked.
thanks for your help
Sorry to jump into this thread at such a late stage. I have a similar issue in that when I flash the boot.img for the Tiamat 1.3.1 rom, I get stuck at the boot screen (dual core etc).
How did you manage to install 1.4.1 from the micro sd if you are running a kernel that does have sd support yet? What steps did you take?
Thanks

Will try and help here from what i remember.
First follow these instructions to get it working again >
Download his boot and flash - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1049901
I then downloaded and flashed clockworkmod.
I then put an sd card in my pc, put the tiamat 1.4.1 file on it, booted into clockworkmod recovery mode and then simply selected the sd card installed the tiamat from there.
Thats the basics of it and to my suprise it worked.
Hope this helps a little, just research clockworkmod and how to install etc.
I found the easiest way was to go to the AU 3.1 first, then root and clockworkmod it, then go to tiamat 1.1 then finally 2.0, then the 2.0.1 update for maps. went very smoothly.
Lordao
I took a guess yesterday and went for it. I ended up using the boot.img from the Tiamat 1.4.0 package. My xoom was happy with this and didn't get stuck at the bootloader screen. Then I installed the rest of the 1.3.1 Rom, then upgraded to 1.4.1. So I am all good on 1.41.
However I'm thinking about applying the 3.1 upgrade and then trying a newer tiamat kernel.
EDIT - I did end up using clockwork recovery. That thing is awesome.

[Q] Tiamat 3.1 > 3.2

I have the Tiamat kernel with 3.1 on my US WiFi Xoom.
What is involved in getting the 3.2 update? Do i need to wait for the next version of Tiamat that supports 3.2, or can i upgrade normally and keep Tiamat/root?
Xoom is my first android device, so im not sure on how it all works.
in order to upgrade from 3.1 to 3.2 your gonna have to return to a stock kernel, and rom. Afaik, tiamats kernel does not work with 3.2 yet. But rest assured there will be new kernels for 3.2 soon
Thanks eliteone.
Does that mean if my Xoom says there is an update i should ignore it? Or will it not even detect the update?

You probably won't see the update notification since you're on Tiamat.
If you do see it you should ignore it.

Thanks to both of you. Will just wait till the Tiamat kernel supports 3.2.
The current Clockwork update-able 3.2 ffor WiFi will install over a 3.1 with the Tiamet Kernel and will replace the kernel with the stock one. So basically you end up with a stock system that is rooted. I wasn't running their custom ROM, just the custom kernel and the V05 update went flawless.

I had the same setup, and my xoom looped on the boot animation after i flashed. I had to do a factory reset/wipe data from CWM to get my xoom to boot properly. So now I'm reinstalling all my apps and settings.
I tried to flash the tiamat 2.0 yesterday, but my com then just froze at the dual corenscreen. I reflashed the old 1.4.5 tiamat and its back to normal now.
How exactly do I upgrade to 3.2 from 3.1 with tiamat 1.4.5? Its all way too confusing.

Use this method.

Copy to your external sd card and rename it update.zip, boot into CWM recovery, wipe user data/factory reset, wipe cache, flash update.zip and reboot. It should work. You could also flash the new Tiamat Katana kernel 2.0 which is only for Honeycomb 3.2 after that.
Good luck!

I am on Tiamat, and just got the 3.2 update notification on my wi-fi only Xoom! I was very surprised since I am on Tiamat, plus removed a ton of "bloatware". I am just ignoring the notification every time it pops up. I suspect if I do go w/ it though, that it will fail... ? Anyone get that far to find out?? lol
I have a dumb question....do you HAVE to use an external microsdhc card to flash updates? You can't use the internal 32GB '/sdcard' ???
I am using CWM 4.0.0.4 and it seems to read the updates and install, but when i reboot nothing has happened....
Also, the ROM install appears to finish in about 5 seconds, way too short for something that is 100MB...

No (I need to create a macro, or cut and paste, I've said this so many times) you really need an external microsd card and you need to install the Tiamat CWM Recovery R4c 3.2.0.0. That's the one that works with the external micro sdcard and works with the Tiamat kernels and roms. The 4.x.x.x. version does not see your micro sdcard and won't flash anything to your Xoom.

[Q] Stuck on SAMSUNG screen

I flashed the debloated 2.3.4 EP1W leak yesterday and all was going good. Today I flashed imoseyon's (voodoo) kernel at h ttp://rootzwiki.com/showthread.php?3953-KERNEL-GB-imoseyon-kernel-(stock-repacked-v2.4.0voodoo-10-2-11) because it supports voodoo (I was on RFS before this). I did a nandroid backup right before I flashed through CWM. After rebooting, I am stuck on the SAMSUNG screen. I am thinking that this might be the system converting to EXT4, but I did not hear any female voice.
If the issue does not fix itself in 30 minutes, I will reboot. How should I get out of this problem?
I'm not sure, but you might be able to Odin something like Humblecomb 4.0, which will give you root, Vooodoo kernel (Imoseyon Kernel 2.06, I believe), Recovery, and EXT4 (conversion on reboot from Odin). From there you may be able to CWM to the EP1W debloated.
Gummycharged and Humble Gingerbread ROMs are both great ROMs and should work perfectly with that kernel you want.
The time that I bootlooped was easily amended by reverting to one of the stock ROMs via Odin.
I just flashed imoseyon's non-voodoo kernel (which I luckily downloaded to my SD on accident) and it booted up. Does anyone know of any other voodoo kernels for EP1W?

Link? There is none on the web page
OK I flashed imosayon's 2.3.4 instead of the latest 2.4.0 (it was the only other download link available) and it booted with voodoo on. Holy crap this is fast getting like 2200s on quadrant.

[Q] Sch-i535 [ml1] Unable to get custom kernel flashed properly

Hey peeps, I'm running slapnuts v1.4 rom on a d2vzw gs3 vrucml1 baseband. The rom is supposed to be running with Lean Kernel v4.0 but for some reason I am stuck with the stock kernel. I have also tried flashing Lean Kernel by itself but with no success, actually whenever I flash it I just end up losing wifi and having to flash the ml1 modules back. I could use some help here, thanks!
Another thing that I could use some clarification on, Safestrap directs users to install the kernel modules after flashing a rom (otherwise we would be without working wifi). The problem I'm seeing here though is whenever a kernel is flashed, wifi is no longer working, in other words, the module is gone and has to be re-flashed which I am assuming (only because I've been unable to get a kernel up and running) would remove the kernel all over again and visa versa.
Am I just doing something wrong or does it seem that something is broken here?

You cannot flash a custom kernel on TouchWiz 4.3+. You must use the stock kernel. That's the way that Safestrap works on the S3 given the limitations created by Samsung.
