SPB 3D question? - T-Mobile LG G2x

Down loaded the app and it doesn't work. Any suggestions?

pay the developers for their work or don't use it? ive had no problem running this on any version of android on my g2x, only reason it wouldn't run is because the app actually checks if you bought it on the market, and if you didn't it disables itself ~
and if you did buy the app ~ disregard the top of the post and, messaging the developer with your issue would probably get you more help

My bad, I download it free to try it Then if I like I buy it, and since theres no lite version or trial version I guess I'm f-ed

honestly its not worth the 15$ youtube how it looks, thats pretty much what youre stuck with, doesnt have any sort of advanced settings to tweak it or anything.... they just make it look flashy to rip people out of their 15$

I own the app but don't use it anymore. It's a neat novelty to show off, but not fun to use... And uses about 60 MB ram all day long.

Wow! Anyone else like Amazon Appstore better than Google's?

http://amzn.to/getappstore
Wow, amazing! It has FILTERING and SORTING options!
WOW, what a novel thought!
They did something Google could not do, even with a 3 year head start.
(Yes, I'm bitter, but I think it's justified. A search company with crappy search = )
nice one! thanks for sharing!!!
No, market is better
Look for Google's Market to start getting improved vastly especially if Amazon's really kicks off.

I hope so. In three years, Google has made literally 0 functionality improvements in searching the Market on an Android device.
the android market actually supports more than one country
/thread.
Its fine by me. Not the best and I already have most of the apps I want. I only got it for the Angry Birds Rio game. I'll probably be checking it everyday to see what the free app is though.

Well I just found one issue that I have with it. The header for the damn thing is too freaking large. Over half my screen is stuck with that header. Not much scrollable space for me. And that's on my HD2's large screen. I feel for those with less than 4" screens.

Not me. It is clumsy. Go to a catagory, like Utilities. Note half the screen is useless and you can see maybe 3 things at once.
Signing up and getting 1-click (required) turned on was painful.
Worst of all, after faking up some data and downloading Angry Birds Rio, and freezing their auto-starting app store in Titanium Pro, ABR wouldn't run!
Bogus in extremis.
So they have a few extra sorting or filtering options. Big deal. Google's beats Amazon's black & blue.
I downloaded the amazon app store just to get angry birds rio, then uninstalled the app store, and surprise surprise angry birds pops up a message telling me I need to reinstall the app store and log in. That's bogus right there. Both uninstalled. I'll wait until it shows up in the android market. I'm not keeping that piece of crap around just to play angry birds.
I think its a good market alt for non google phones/tablets.

I like android market than the amazon. amazon is asking a lot by just downlading the free app.

No. I still think Market is better
It has some cool options, but lacks others. Such as uninstalling an app from it. Sure I can do it in adw and whatnot, but thats extra steps that I don't wanna have to take. Plus it counts every download as a "purchase", so I get an email every time I install an app, regardless of whether its paid or free. Theres no notification for the progress of your downloads. It also doesn't automatically open the install dialog if you're not in the app. So I think its got a lot of work before it even comes near the performance of the android market.
amazon is crap. ;D
App loves to run in the background ..... crappy.
No I dont... Not available in Serbia...

Thanks for the review. Very useful for those of us debating whether to try it or not. Personally i don't see the need for having more than one Market. Exclusivity deals will lead to fragmentation and i would rather see everything in one place.

[Q] Zinio on 3.1 update

I saw somebody mention that Zinio is included in the 3.1 update. Is this correct?
I had previously installed it with directions here, but it's a little funky. First, it gave me about eleven sample magazine issues. The size of the magazines on the library screen seems to be a little off and the app is otherwise quirky.
Everyone experiencing this, or was it because I had the other version installed? Any way to fix this?
Thanks!
As of today, Zinio is up on the market. Should be able to grab it on 3.0.
Yes, Zinio was part of the 3.1 update.

Cool, I'll just remove it and reinstall just to make sure everything is okay.
It keeps freezing on me when I try to open a Magazine for more info. Cant delete it as well since it came with 3.1. Going to try to install it from the app store as it keeps telling me to update it.
I kind of wish all of these free applications weren't pushed out to us. Especially since you can find most of these apps on the Market if you want them anyway. I have no use for Zinio and don't feel like rooting just to remove it. Though, compared to my DX, I definitely can't complain about bloatware. And, to be honest, most of the "bloat" added by ASUS has proved to be quite useful
Updated the version from market and it's works!
Free magazines.............hmmm....not bad!
Keep it up Asus...I love your bloat wares
First....free newspapers and now free magazines....hahaha....iPad 2 Killer!
Can anybody confirm that the preinstalled version includes the free magazine subscription offer detailed in Zinio's press release?
http://www.prnewswire.com/news-rele...roid-market-for-tablet-devices-122859609.html
If not, might be worth trying to install the app first, then let it upgrade when Asus' update hits for the US market...
The free newspapers thing is a total waste of time for me -- seven free issues is next to nothing. A free two year subscription to one of 25 magazine (or is it all 25? The press release isn't clear) seems quite worthwhile though.

HOWEVER, it will let me uninstall the new one (the good version) but not the old version.
Any way to remove this without flashing my device? It's not a big deal, just an icon under apps but I'd like to get rid of it.

And suddenly the lightbulb came on. Of course you're right, the way it was phrased just threw me off. It's one issue of each magazine listed. (Well, they've actually listed 25 magazines as included, and per your own experience there are only 23 available, but near enough the same thing.)
...which to me is a complete waste of time, and makes me again wish Asus would stop jamming this bloat down our throats. Like the newspapers, it is one more thing I'll never use, and one more icon obscuring the apps I actually do want to use. (Not to mention wasting space and resources on my tablet.)
Thus far the only thing I've found worthwhile among Asus' preinstalled apps is Splashtop Remote Desktop, and that can currently be bought standalone for just 99 cents.
I really wish Asus would give us a version without all the bloatware installed, and just let us buy our own apps. Saving a few cents on the one app I do use isn't worth it to me to have all the other junk I'll never touch on there too...
Probably because Zinio pays them per install or account created from one of their devices...
(I'm guessing.)

Yup, that's usually the case with this kind of bloat -- the manufacturer gets paid to put it all on there, in the hopes that it'll lead to you paying the software company to use the product that's stuck on your machine.
I doubt they're getting paid much to stick all the junk on, though, and I'd happily pay $10-15 to have it all taken back off.

Actually had Zinio on my iPad and enjoyed it. Wife had cheap o magazine and I had car and driver magazine quite cheap.
As for splashtop our version can be set to the ASIs resolution of 1280x800 whereas the market version only goes to 1024x768. So I don't consider any of it bloatware but rather good apps I would have purchased anyway.

Keep getting error with preinstalled bloatware "zinio reader". I went to the market and DLd "zinio" which seems to be the same exact thing as zinio reader except a much larger app. The mags are free which is pretty cool but once they aren't free I'll be deleting that ish' stop the bloatware!!!

SMS from PC

Does anyone know of a good app that would allow me to send/receive texts on my PC (via wifi/USB) from my phone? I've found two thus far, DesktopSMS and DroidMessenger, but both seem to severely limit features unless you buy them. So I guess my real question is does anyone know of an app that does this... FO FREE?
Support the devs...desktop sms is done by koush (rom manager, clockwork recovery) he deserves it!
So just buy desktop sms!

The thing is I'm a broke college student, and I hate spending money on stuff like this unless the developer truly deserves it. Sounds like this one does, however, going to buy now. Thanks for the heads up.
Check out MyPhoneExplorer in market.

^ Will do. I've already purchased a license for the app that Jimmy mentioned, but it's only a year license, which I'm not too happy about. For those looking to help support the creator of Clockworkmod, the app is called DeskSMS, and not DesktopSMS (which exists).
It's $5/year, which is probably not a lot for most of you, and I know I'll be called cheap here but I have extremely limited finances. Very good app, by the way, but I don't understand the necessity for re-purchasing it.
$5 a year is a very reasonable price for a non-battery-draining app that can send you email/gtalk messages or you can even access the web interface to. I've also used easysms which was a battery hog and only worked locally, but DeskSMS by far deserves the $5 a year (for server costs etc). You probably lose more money in change a year than that.

I fully agree will u, I am not much of a supporter of fly by night devs and apps, but the ones who deserve it I will alwaya buy if its something I will use. Koush always puts out quality stuff and aside from from chains's superuser app I think he is second as far as installs on ALMOST EVERY rooted android device.

If I had a job, then yes, $5/year wouldn't be much to worry about. However, I literally have to watch every dollar I spend. Also, I always keep my change and get it cashed in bills after I've collected a certain amount, so I see your point but it doesn't apply to me.
While using the app, I seem to be losing connection from the web interface even while the app is opened on my phone. My phone is connected to the wifi, but I still seem to lose the connection. Would you have any idea why?
install droidexplorer on your pc. connect phone to pc and go to tools/plugins/screencast.
you will have your android screen on your desktop with full functionality(everything but video)
and dosnt drain batt actually charges while usb'd to pc
you can also use your pc keyboard for all the functions including typing text.
right clicking the window on your pc rotates screen. fullscreen is better quality.lags a bit but its free

Bloat freezer apk

It *WAS* a paid app (and since it is no longer for sale and the developer has been suspended, it does not qualify as a paid app since you cannot buy it). However, 1 it is no longer available on the Market. 2 I spoke with Google on the phone today about it, and they said it was pulled because the developer has been suspended. This all came about because I just upgraded my epic4g yesterday to the Touch and wanted to re-install it, however it was no longer in the market. Google explained to me what happened, so I did the next best thing, I made an APK from another phone that still had it installed, and transferred it to my Galaxy 2.
Tells me that there is an update in the market, wont let me update so it wont let me use it :/ Really annoyed since I've actually bought this app, I have emailed the dev and he has said that they will be re-releasing with a new icon and description
We have to buy that again and then send an email with our new invoice and our old invoice and we'll be refunded

Yes exactly, some people with an older version of market can still see it, but it won't allow them to update it. Google pulled it. For all others it is not even visible. That is why I posted the APK for the file. It is the most up to date version of the app. An email to the dev wil quickly get you an auto-responded email stating that "he doesn't know why google keeps pulling it, and will release a new one, and that you will have to re-purchase." From who I talked to today at Google, I wouldn't count on that happening so much... but again not relevant since this APK IS the most recent version of the app, and most probably the last time it will ever be seen.
Cott, I reflashed my phone today and spent and hour trying to find this app. Your .apk won't run as it says there's and update. Is there anyway around this?

I cannot say why that is happening. I have not had that problem, I installed it today on my Sprint Epic 4G (2.3), my new Galaxy II Touch that I got yesterday, and my Samsung Galaxy tab 10.1, including a friends T-MO mytouch. I am not running any custom ROM's on any of my devices, I simply have them rooted so that I can get rid of bloatware, freeze the stupid crap, and not pay $29.99 a month for wireless tether.... I am not a dev......perhaps a dev with the time can look into the problem you are having and figure out a work-around? Any devs out there?

Yes Titanium Pro is a must have app for rooted users, no question about it. However for the purpose of freezing apps, I find and many others have found as well that Bloat Freezer does it much better, and is able to freeze apps that Titanium can't. (Titanium will "freeze" certain apps, but then upon reboot, they are no longer frozen. (again that is with certain apps, and seems to be more or less of a problem based on what phone you are using and what ROM. Bloat Freezer does work better for the purpose off app freezing. Period. An added bonus of Bloat Freezer is that it color codes apps of what it thinks are completely safe to freeze, which ones you DO NOT want to freeze, and ones that it does not recommend freezing, which is very valuable for alot of "new to rooting" people we have floating around XDA, and therefore has the potential to prevent alot of un-needed posts and fights and other BS that goes on on XDA, therefore is benificial to our community. I have played with antek app manager as another person pointed out. I do find it to be a usefull app and has its purposes for sure. It's a must have as far as I am concerned, although lately I have been leaning more on "Gemini app manager". You should check that one out as well. Again though, for freezing bloat, nothing is as effective or safe, or "newb friendly" as Bloat Freezer. Oh, and to the other person pointing out that it is (was) only $1, good point, titanium pro is currently going for $6.96.

When I said Titanium was a must have regardless for root users, I should of said that I meant the PRO version of course. Thats why I posted this APK, because I know I loved it and I knew there must have been thousands of others that did as well, and since it is no longer available I figured this is one way I can contribute back to the XDA community.
I had purchased this app and wasn't able to re-download it when I upgraded from my DX to my Bionic.
I just installed the APK you posted and whenever I launch the app, it tells me there's a new version and the choices are Update or Exit. If I choose update it takes me to the market where it can't find the app. If I choose Exit, it just exits out of the app so it can't be used.
Hitting the back button on the phone dismisses the pop-up, but it still doesn't list any of the apps, and then selecting Refresh just bring the pop-up back.
Looks like I'm screwed.

Its cool. Lol. I wouldn't update because of the limit and felt the same way about the app being free then 7 bucks.I don't mind supporting the devs for their hard work and have many bought paid apps that I have purchased. But this just didn't seem right. But as of yesterday the old version quit working had a pop-up saying it wasn't supported and wouldn't connect. darn, im wondering if theres a way around it or another app. Because like you i dont mind supporting dev's and i have also bought many apps, but this isn't right its been free for this long this is someone who is just getting greedy and trying to force people into paying them money. The app had over 1million downloads, If that many people use it and he now forces them to pay 7 thats 7 million dollars. I dont blame him i wouldn't mind having 7 million but still i'm not putting in on him being greedy.
Lol you guys are spoiled. The developer has a right to ask for money for his app... People have been using something he has done on his free time for free for a long time... Who knows what is going on in his life but maybe it's reached a point where the money is needed. For what it offers, it is easily worth 7 dollars one time. The only reason i have not bought it yet is because people are reporting it doesnt work on 4.1 anyway, so we'll see.

I can't argue with everything you've said even to the being spoiled lol. I have also read where it won't support the latest update too. So maybe when it works on that his fee will sound more reasonable. Looking forward to jellybean on my RAZR Max HD

Well i'll straight up say i'm far from spoiled, I've spent money on apps that i didn't have to just to support the devs. But when you go from "i'm doing this for the people and its free i just made it to help out" to "i'm charging 7 dollars when i've changed nothing" that just a bit greedy to me, I work hard for my money and i'm not about to just throw it at someone because they got greedy. I've done my homework downloaded a widget called hotspot toggle and i tether threw my phone's built in hotspot for free. Easy to use, turns on faster, and i haven't seen any issues with it yet. So i guess good try to the foxfi guy. Hope you guys find the hotspot toggle widget useful
