[Q] Ad-Hoc - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Greetings to all. I have ROM prime 1.6. At me such problem. There is no return through wi-fi. Speed of return - 0. An access point - Ad-Hoc, created through Connectify me. What can it be? Forgive for my English

I'm not sure if ad hoc is possible on the Transformer. I've tried rooting mine and changing the wpa supplicant file with one that was supposed to work. No luck.
If anyone else has a way to get the Transformer to connect via ad hoc, I'm all ears.

I have my Asus transformer connecting to my iPhone which uses an adhoc type of connection
All ive done was add the wpa_supplicant to my Asus's System/bin and replaced the WPA that was there... oh by the way backup the old one before u replace it...

yout will need root access, root explorer and the modified Wpa_supplicant file

I used the search feature of this forum and found this for you -
adhoc thread 1
adhoc thread 2
adhoc thread 3
Mine works fine with my Hero running an adhoc spot.

Interesting... can I just confirm something?
So in order for my TF101 to detect and use Ad Hoc connections, i must do the following.
1. Root my TF 101
2. Replace the wpa_supplicant file
3. Have my Nokia 5800 run JoikuSpot
4. Done!
Sorry, i'm really new to this.

Hi, i have already done this but still doesnt work. thanks
For anybody else who might come along and not be able to get the .apk from the Market, you can download it here:
hxxp://szym.net/barnacle/barnacle.apk
I had to install with ASTRO to get it to work.

Go to DHCP (under the Advanced heading) and set DNS 1 to 8.8.8.8. Then restart barnacle and reconnect your laptop. Then manually set the DNS for the connection on your computer to the same address. That worked for me.

I did that, once I press ok I got invalid IP
Using Rogers (service provider, dataplan 1GB) Canada
I rooted my x10 following the instructions from Bin4ry from step 1 to 3 and step 4 and 5 I used the link that jerpelea posted, it seems everything went smoothly but something is wrong with my mobile networks, I can only use browser, everything is fine for browsing but per example if I use flixter I can't get any connection, facebook or any applications that needs to use network, and I turned on the wifi and using my home router all applications are fine, and I don't know what's going on, and I rooted again same issue, can anyone tell me is there something I'm missing too?
and for barnacle same issue as OP, my ipod touch is connected but no internet connection at all and I followed what to put in LAN already, does anyone encounter this issue too?
any help is appreciated, thank you

I add athwlan0, and it said it was not a correct LAN, so I removed and that error went away. Now I am getting "Failed to set AP_SCAN". Does anyone know how to get rid of this error?
try taking wifi off, leave 3g on n insert the athwlan0 in lan area.. should work fine?!

Yes, I believe so. I used Unrevoked, and now when I start Barnacle it no longer tells me I need su privileges. Is there another way to check?

[DEV] ICS ad-hoc mod

Dears,
I found many methods to patch android to connect to ad-hoc networks,
method 1:
Manually configure the wpa_supplican in this way
http://www.olsr.org/?q=olsr_on_android
but this method is for Galaxy S and cant apply it on Galaxy Nexus or ICS devices.
method 2:
to patch wpa_supplican
removes the [IBSS] flag from scan results,
masquerades and demasquerades ad-hoc ssid with (*) prefix
sets mode 1 (ad-hoc) if the ssid is for IBSS
permits the supplicant to select an IBSS when associating to a given ssid
and i don't know any of these as im not a developer but i need this function BADly.
+1 to this thread, i also need the adhoc features. hope the great devs here will give us hope
I also need this feature

Indeed I am in a hotel with cable only Internet and I would like to share my laptop connection with an adhoc wifi network but my galaxy nexus doesn't see the network.
I am instead connected with my asus transformer which sees the adhoc network, so some android device works
Actually, the method1 you mentioned works perfectly.
I just tested it with a UbuntuAdhoc network on a ICS 4.0.3 ROM.
Just one remark,
it will fail when you run:
su -c "/system/bin/wpa_cli -p /data/misc/wifi/"
You have to modify as:
su -c "/system/bin/wpa_cli -u"
Hy all, so this is reported working on ICS ???
I tried by myself on my Prime but I'm not good enough to do it ( yeah I know I'm a leecher...)
IF A DEV COULD please make a patch would be great ;-)
Best regards
Can somebody confirm whether or not this will work on an Asus Transformer Prime thats been updated to ICS?
So wait.. you started a whole thread about ad hoc under ICS BUT (1) just posted info already found elsewhere and (2) posted the first "fix" but yet it cannot work under ICS despite this thread having an ICS title and (3) mention wpa_supplicant files and nothing about how to edit them or the fact ICS has 2 wpa_supplicant files.
fail.

About Ad-Hoc Networks (JoikuSpot)

Hi everyone!
Yes, I am a noob...
Infos:
I already know that every Android device needs a new "wpa_supplicant" file for connecting to Ad-Hoc Networks e.g. created by my Nokia's JoikuSpot or sth. else...
If there's another option, tell me
Also I've heard about this application:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.jrummy.root.browserfree
that supposedly can be installed on an unrooted device!
The question:
For me it doesn't make sense, that you can install an app which has access to all files without rooting the tablet at first.
Can I replace the wpa_supplicant without rooting and be happy with tethering 3G from my phone to the tablet?
AdHoc Networks are my only cause for rooting but it seems to be quite difficult, maybe no one did it already with the slate ... I can't find instructions to do it anyway...
Please HELP

Ad-hoc wpa_supplicant

Has anybody looked for, or found a working wpa_supplicant that allows the tab to tether off another device?
D
.
I've been hoping for that. If only someone would make one...
FWIW - I tried a lot of things to get tethered to my Droid X. I finally settled on WiFi Tether for Root Users which puts the X in the infrastructure mode.
You probably already know this: http://www.xda-developers.com/android/android-ad-hoc-wireless-network-support/
What's the advantage of ad hoc over infrastructure?
Samsung Tab 2 10.1 w/ 4.0 ICS - cannot access adhoc networks
I just got my Tab 2 10.1 with 4.0 ICS. I rooted it and then tried putting the wpa_supplicant file mentioned in these forums in the system bin directory with permissions of 755 while in airplane mode. When I reboot, and try to turn on wi-fi, it just hangs with "Turning Wi-Fi on..". When I put the original wpa_supplicant file back and reboot, everything works again.
I notice that the patched wpa_supplicant file is only 295,964 bytes long whereas the original wpa_supplicant file is 569,140 bytes long so it would appear at least that in ICS there has been a lot of code added?
Is there a wpa_supplicant file that allows adhoc mode that works on the new Samsung Tab 2 10.1 with 4.0 ICS?

I ran into the exact same issue

i've been using that app from my ns4g. works like a charm.
I have exact the same problem.
Hope for a solution (a working wpa_supplicant file)
Has anyone run across a solution to get Ad-hoc working on the Galaxy Tab 2's? I've tried numerous wpa_supplicants, numerous ROMs, searches, etc. with no luck...
Thanks.
Same here. Feel desperate.
I googled for 3 days with no luck. Try serverl wpa_supplicants resulted in a halted "turn on wifi"...
I know there is a solution in os 2.3.6(coz I tried it before on a old tab P1000)...
is it possible to downgrade a Tab 2 (P3110) from os 4.0.3(stock) to 2.3.6??
The reason I need this:
I got an iphone 3GS which can ONLY setup an ad-hoc network for my tab to connect to.
(while an iphone 4 can share in infrastructure mode)
Need help
Hi there,
Would someone PLEASE upload their original wpa_supplicant and send it to me, has i obnoxiously failed to backup my original one before attempting to use a 3rd party wpa_supplicant?
My wifi still isn´t working AT ALL.
I´m using a 7 inch galaxy tab 2 with android 4.0.4
THANKS!!!!
I suffered the same problem...just dont bother to load wpa files etc.....
flash stock firmware....thats it !!!
theres not much to do when files are corrupt....

[Q] ad-hoc issue

hi, recently i bought the new transformer TF700 and i want to connect to internet through ad-hoc but when i find and connect to ad-hoc SSID in wireless page of TF700 the process stay on obtaining ip... and nothing to do ..., i know if i want connect to ad-hoc have to make root system and then change the file .... but i try to find the way that wont need to root system.any Buddy know any solution to do it ???
thanks
Do yourself a favor and just root the device. It's completely reversible and does not void your warranty.
Otherwise, you will forever be looking for "workarounds" to do things that are easily done when rooted...
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using Tapatalk 2
thanks for your advice, but if i want root the device that has ICS how can i do it?would you inform me, and then the right file that can resolve my ad-hoc problem which is useful for TF700.
thanks alot
a very quick look through the forms produced

I tried rooting TF700, but still cannot connect to ad hoc with windows 7.
I tried all the possible ways. Or am i missing some important step?
Perhaps the adhoc connection is set up incorrectly. I have an adhoc connection set up with joikuspot on a symbian device and I did not have to modify anything or even root my tf700
