I believe that it has something to do with DRM/Licensing of certain media content, or perhaps it provides user data to Google. Either way, after Freezing it with Titanium, Youtube ceased to function. Both the Standalone App and content from Browsers would no longer play.
It can be re-enabled but it seems to require a restart. Once the process has resumed, searching on youtube, and loading videos is snappy. While it is disabled, the youtube app takes forever to populate the page with videos, trys forever to load videos and then the status bar will move along but no sound or video will play.
I have that disabled and YouTube is still working as usual. Eventually, we'll find out what it is.

That's weird, If I freeze it, it kills youtube. Can anyone else replicate either of our results? Perhaps youtube won't work because I have frozen something else in addition to SWM-C, hmmm.
I'm quite sure it was determined to be related to HTC's OTA system.
I am using a stock rooted US Moto G, and I have had podcasts (through both Pocket Casts and DoubleTwist) and MLB At Bat audio streaming stopping randomly.
Has anybody else had this issue? Any solutions?

I have the exact same problem. Podcasts stop playing suddenly.
This usually happens when using chrome, particularly when scrolling.
A few observations:
- The app doesn't crash - launching it again and pressing play starts the podcast at the exact same spot meaning the app safely shutdown.
- Closing all apps and tabs to free up memory usually helps but is no guarantee it won't stop again within a few minutes.
- Happens with several podcast apps I tried - all of which use about 60mb of RAM when playing
- Happens with downloaded and streamed podcasts. But stopping is more likely with streaming versions (I guess the stream is buffered to RAM meaning it's more likely to be killed)
- Every time the podcast stops I have been using a web browser (I've tried Chrome, Chrome beta, Firefox, Opera and UC browser)
My theory is that android is killing the process to free up some RAM but I'm not sure what can be done to prevent this.
A few things I have looked into are 'nice' and 'minfree'. I tried increasing the priority of my podcast app with nice but that didn't seem to help at all.
Changing the minfree settings did seem to have some affect, but it was still getting killed off eventually.
I don't know much about android to look into it any further ( this is my first android device), perhaps someone with more experience can advise.
I guess this is just one of the limitations of the MotoG and 1gb of RAM
same here had it with the beyondpod ,sound cloud apps

I think I figured out a solution to this problem, you need to be rooted though.
Install the 'app settings' xposed module, select your music/podcast app then enable the 'resident' option.
This makes sure the app remains in memory and stops android from killing the process.
Seems to be working for me for the past day now

I have a problem with facebook app for android since I recently updated it to the latest version which is version 6.0.0.28.28
My problem was whenever I play a video a video, the video will be played by facebook built in video player. Supposedly before update, I was able to choose a 3rd party video player to play it. I always choose MX Player to play facebook videos because there's a lot of options to choose like H/W or S/W and video scaling.
Is there a work around to disable facebook built in video player.? I have tried to clear defaults but still doesn't work.
If anyone here has a copy of the facebook apk version 4.0.0.26.3 I would like to ask a copy of it. I think this is not a violation for warez because facebook is free to download in play store. I just needed that specific version because that works perfectly on my phone.
Is there a way or an app that can automatically backup an app in android before updating.? Hope you'll share your ideas here.
Thanks for taking time to read this.
Use facebook 8.0.0.0.23 dev version. It is not only the latest version but also supports the feature you said.
Use ES File Explorer to back up apps manually before upgrading.
I have uploaded app called System Optimizer apk that can backup apps before updating but it comes with its own market.
Good Luck!

Use klyph pro it is best, or simply use facebook in firefox browser(download from playstore) I ue only in firefox browser and it has some extra features than facebook apps
I'm not even sure if this is the right section to ask in, I've never really left my specific device forums before but here goes!
So I just upgraded from a Sammy S3 to a Nexus 6 and I had a paid app called PVStar+ Pro on my S3. It lefts you play Youtube video's while having the screen off unlike that POS Google Youtube app!
So I setup my new Nexus 6 and I just realized it's not here on this phone. So I checked my apps on the market, nope. So I copied my APK off my S3 over and but it doesn't seem to work right. I can't search videos. For example, I've searched Tiesto, Hardwell, the Wonderland Music Festival etc and it comes back with zero results. Plus I don't think it's fully PRO.
I tried checking out the home page of the dev but it's all in Japanese so I shot them an email and so far no reply.
One of my favorite apps! Just wondering if anyone knows WHAT happened to it? Even Google searching brings up nothing.
I have the same problem. My PVstar+ didnt show any search results what so ever, so I thought thay I might need uninstall/install it, but after I uninstalled it I noticed that it was missing from google store. After a while I found the .apk file on another site but the problem with the search results remain.
Too bad, this was my favourite player.

I think it was pulled due to the youtube music go-live, which is basically the same service, only paid..
The normal version still works btw guys!

Wtf?! I hope it will be back... if they pulled it due to the reason mentioned above that is such a crApple-like tactic. I hope it isn't true. And if it is true I hope it will still be available somewhere else. Does the developer have his own page?

I tried searching for ASBIT but didnt find anything.
We can still use it though, so just make backup and dont lose it

It was pulled for just that reason and no it won't be back. Google may have gone as far as removing it from devices.
Howw exactly can google remove it from devices? I saw other youtube background players are still there... anyway good job of it's true... no one will buy their service and probably use itunes instead. Really smart.

Its not that hard, They even did it awhile ago when an app was found to have a virus built in.
http://gizmodo.com/5572510/google-remotely-removes-apps-from-android-phones-for-security-reasons
This was awhile ago but just a proof of it does happen. I am not saying they will just that they could.
No chance on the Itunes bit. Most wont even come close to wanting that POS software on their system.
So... does anyone have the apk for pvstar? It would be nice to attach it to this thread..
And since I like my own ideas...

Is it just on my device or the PVSTAR+ youtube search doesn't come up with any search results anymore? (when searching for a youtube video inside the app I mean)
Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. Try using the "Video search" button in the main screen. Be warned that Google can break search on Youtube remotely on any app – they routinely do it for old Youtube .apk's so you can't use them anymore.
I believe nothing new happenned in this case? I loved PVSTAR, so maybe there's some info from devs? Any homepage I can visit?
Thanks, and sorry for digging that up
I like PVStar+ cause its the only Youtube streamer I could find that 1) doesn't require me to log in to Youtube and 2) will keep playing in the background even when you X out and go to the desktop. The only problem is once you go to the desktop you can't go BACK to the app without making the video you're streaming start over from the beginning.
But yeah I haven't been able to find another Youtube streamer like this, so I'm sticking with this for now. Already saved the APK if I switch device (rooted with Titanium Backup).
Hi, I have noticed that pvstar+ is in the Amazon appstore and it is updated to 2.6.2 version, while my installed version is 2.5.11, probably the last that was available on the play store.
How can I install the new version from Amazon without lose all the cached music?
Fun on the appstore
Hi, I came to have the same problem as you guys, not finding the pvstar app anywhere on the playstore. But looking at other similar apps, the recent updates had the users mad because they couldn't listen to music in the background as well.
This is not one singular occurrence and I'd love to write one angry email, but I don't know where to send one...
This is a low blow.
Pvstar+ pro version, difference from free version?
updated below with answer to own question
The Pvstar+ which is free on Amazon app store in version 2.6.2, how does that differ from the donation "pro" version that was available from play (last version 2.5.9)? Did the regular non-pro version from play display ads? I don't remember it doing so, but I bought the pro very shortly after finding out about the app. The Amazon version does not display ads from what I've seen, and both amazon's 2.6.2 and 2.5.9 pro from play can still do background streaming.
Was pro just a support the developer thing with identical functioning as the free version? Cached copies of their respective play store pages don't seem to be available so no help there.
There was this issue with many videos not being played at all by pvstar+ before, possibly all videos that were only available in. FLV format from Youtube.
Pvstar+ is perhaps only a frontend in app format for the streaming site at http://sp.pvstar.dooga.org since the app needs to connect to pvstar.dooga.com to be able to play anything not in your devices local cache.
The developer does not seem to answer emails. Someone who is fluent in Japanese could give it a try to see if there are any answers to be had from the official source.

Figured this has been discussed many times, but could not find the details?
Was wondering if there was a way to get a youtube app installed on Webos that will play videos without ads? I know it may need to be rooted, so if thats needed thats ok. It seems like there is a way root now with 3.5 or lower.
I know with Android this is easy with or without root. So would like to do the same with LG SmartTV running WebOS.
you can probably add the urls for the ads to the hosts file which should stop them from loading

Can I do that not rooted?
URL blocking hasn't worked for well over a year with YouTube. PiHole and the like are ineffective.
You need a modified app that doesn't play ads, like you get for Android. I don't think one exists for LG WebOS.
Run youtube without ads on LG-TV
Have the Youtube app installed on the LG-TV (Useing this app direcly will always show adds on all youtube videos), if you have an android phone -Then google "YouTube Vanced" -its a modded adfree Android YouTube client, works on none rooted android phones. Run the app on your phone search for the Video then use icon to cast screen to the TV. Youtube app on TV will show the video without ads.
I guess you can do the same if you have iPhone and an youtube adfree app.

any update on this subject? unfortunately casting from Vanced is not a solution anymore, TV keeps showing ads which can be skipped after 5s of viewing. What is interesting - Vanced even displays a notification that TV is going to show the ad in a few secs
I just went to https://rootmy.tv from my LG TV web browser and it installed the homebrew channel, from that I was able to install the adfree youtube mod and disable my TV checking for new updates which might lose my root. It also includes SponsorBlock in the mod so it will skip annoying subscription reminders & in-video promotions.
Can you revert back if needed?
