This one's gonna suck.. You can't. You will have to flash back your stock rom, because that containts the appropriate keyboard layout in /system/usr/.
Unless you are S-OFF and have my cwm port installed, in that case please try
update.zip

hi mikevhl, i see a german kl in your package,
will this give me back qwertz layout?
i got that device with already wrong software, so i'm on my was searching qwertz for chacha..
(s-off & recovery is working)

I have no idea, I don't own the phone. If it doesn't work, try renaming
Code:
/system/usr/keychars/
chacha-keypad-ger.kcm.bin -> chacha-keypad.kcm.bin
Code:
/system/usr/keychars/
chacha-keypad-ger.kl -> chacha-keypad.kl
now signed the update.zip, forgot to do that before
update.zip

That doesn't work for me, Z and Y are still switched.
And the button next to enter, (normaly "?" and with fn ":") doens't work at all.
How can i correct and reactivate them?
Edit:
I flashed back to stock ROM, but Z and Y are still switched, but all keys work again. the special-chars are still on the wrong place, and the umlauts(ä, ö, ü) are nowhere.
Does anyone have an idea, how i can get the standard-qwertz-layout back?

I have the same problem.

Need American HTC Status QWERTY layout, please
Hi! I have HTC Status (U.S. version) with stock ROM, with S-OFF and root. I have a similar problem with the keyboard after I rooted the phone (using instructions on this forum).
I have the following issues:
* alt+Y used to show @, now shows euro
* alt+P used to show ~, now shows @
* alt+. used to insert ".com", now goes to camera app
* alt+N used to show :, now shows "
* alt+B used to show ", now shows '
* alt+V used to show ', now shows lb symbol
Other similar discrepancies...
I think I have the UK English keyboard layout now, which is still QWERTY but the alt+ functions are off. I need QWERTY with American English keyboard layout that comes stock with HTC Status in the U.S. I have searched the forums but the only link I found to an English layout did not work (I copied the chacha-keypad.kl and chacha-keypad.kcm.bin provided in the post I found to /system/usr/keylayout and /system/usr/keychars, respectively, but I still have the UK English layout).
Can someone please provide the keypad and key layout files for me to change it back to American English keyboard? And also the file(s) needed to change the alt+. command back to ".com" instead of going to the camera app?
Thanks so much!

Adding language in HTC keyboard?

Hello to everyone.
Please forgive me if you think that I'm not posting in the correct forum, but I think that posting in the general Sapphire forum would be more irrelevant.
I'm using Cyanogen's 4.0.4 ROM and I'm totally satisfied with it. I think he (with the help of many others) has done a great job, keep up the good work guys!
My only problem (and believe me it's a big problem for me) is that the HTC keyboard supports only the english language. I have tried many ROMs and some of them had other language support, but unfortunatelly I had others problems and had to drop them. So here I am with Cyanogen's ROM which I would be totally satisfied with, if I could use the HTC keyboard with my native language (Greek for my case).
I have tried everything, uninstalling and reinstalling HTC_IME.apk, HTC_IME.odex and libt9.so from JACxHERO's ROM that works with my language, with no success at all.
I assume that a lot of people like the HTC keyboard like me and would like to use it with their native language. So, if there is a solution and anyone knows it, I would really appreciate it to know.
Thank you in advance and again, keep up the good work!!!
I'm interested on the same issue. That's the only reason I keep using Hero ROMs.
I'm interested to...
Is there a way to add spanish language and T9 languages to the magics??? Like spanish for example?
This is the exact same reason why I'm still looking for an OS for my G2. Tons of kudos to whoever can tell us some about this.
+1 for me.
instead of installing other languages i wanna remove the damned chinese language in my htc magic..please help!!
you can try the following
I'm no expert guys but here is the command that activates Russian language in HTC.ime. It worked fine for me and English stays as a second language for the keyboard.
cd to the Tools folder within SDK and run the following command:
Code:
adb shell "echo ru > /data/property/persist.sys.language"
[code]
Then reboot the device.
Obviously you need to replace "ru" in above code by your respective language short name. Like "gr" would stand for Greek language I would imagine.
rubbish: thanks for your suggestion... but it doesn't work for me as far as HTC Keyboard (HTC_IME.apk) is concerned. I have French Canadian set on my device (i.e. fr set in persist.sys.language and CA set in persist.sys.country) and still, only English appears in the HTC Keyboard configuration panel.
I took a look at this page on the Android localisation topic, but find nothing really helpful to solve the problem with HTC Keyboard: http://groups.google.com/group/android-developers/web/localizing-android-apps-draft?version=10
As far as I know, HTC_IME.apk was intended to be used on Hero only, not on Magic. Having used Hero ROM for a couple of weeks' I can confirm that you can select any available languages for use with the HTC keyboard. So is there anything else missing (apart from libt9.so) from the Hero system stack in order to have the complete languages list on Magic?
edit
.........
so no news =( ???
All right, let's try the following method although it's going to be trial and error, you'll see why. It will only work for HTC-based firmware I think (Hero ROMs should be OK). I'm on the different firmware at the moment (SPFrance) and it worked fine adding Russian as 2nd language to the HTC keyboard. The method described in my previous post was really for the system locale (although it was adding 2nd keyboard input as well just fine).
You'll need to pull a system file called "com.htc.android.htcime_preferences.xml" from the device. To do that enter the following command from within tools folder of your SDK folder:
Code:
adb pull /data/data/com.htc.android.htcime/shared_prefs/com.htc.android.htcime_preferences.xml com.htc.android.htcime_preferences.xml
[code]
This is one command, just copy and paste it. You should get the above mentioned file copied to your Tools folder. Then you need to edit it with Notepad. Now comes trial and error method. To add Russian you need to do the following:
Change: <string name="keyboard_language">0</string>
for: <string name="keyboard_language">6</string>
So it's a simple change of 1 figure (0 -> 6). The thing is I don't know (and couldn't find info) what figures are relevant for other languages. But there's no risk in trying, you can always push the original .xml file back to device. Try from 1 to 9 (missing 6 obviously unless you want Russian) and see how it turns out.
To push file back to device:
[code]
adb push com.htc.android.htcime_preferences.xml /data/data/com.htc.android.htcime/shared_prefs/com.htc.android.htcime_preferences.xml
[code]
This is again a single command. Reboot the device afterwards.
Good luck!

Yes, you should get it. I got Russian predictive and there's no reason for Spanish to work differently.
To all. If you succeeded with above method please post what number worked for your language. For now we know that 6 adds Russian and 5 - Portuguese.

To get English environment with (in my case) Czech prediction keyboard on 32A with CyanogenMod 4.0.4, I just set the phone locale to Czech (important step, doesn't work without it) using standard phone locale settings - which switches both the environment and predictive language to Czech (note that the keyboard preferences still only show English as the only visible language choice, but it's not actually selected - the list just doesn't show the other choices) then I change the /data/property/persist.sys.country file to contain CZ (that should really be capitalized) and reboot phone. Works like charm (tested on multiple wipes). You can of course do the exact opposite, too - have the keyboard language set to English and UI language to your preffered language.
Basically - the persist.sys.country file controls your regional locale (including keyboard prediction) - in uppercase characters - and the persist.sys.language file contains your UI messages locale - in lowercase characters.
Tryied it out with no succes... Everytime I change the number I got english again =(...
My phone is 100% english xD...
There should be another way to put it in spanish I think right????

ok i found it:

when i do that... nothing happens, and when I turn swype On, it tells me that this package that i installed is configured for another device and will operate with limited functionality?? what it it about
my swype runs on a custom rom in French (040c) & 24001, I used the packages from the 2.10 rom

did you really installed the version I mentioned above? because for me it works
Hi all,
as i see this topic is pretty old.
I just want to describe how i made my Swype German.
It's basing on Swype-LordYuz-3.9.10.10.5032.CAB.
Rename the following files in Swype install folder:
SwypeEnglishUS.htm -> SwypeEnglishUS.htm_
SwypeEnglishUS.zdb.le -> SwypeEnglishUS.zdb.le_
or something else..
then:
SwypeGerman.htm -> SwypeEnglishUS.htm
SwypeGerman.zdb.le -> SwypeEnglishUS.zdb.le
Do a Softreset and check if it works.
Even though the settings show EN as language - mine is German and Umlauts work as well
PS.Italian or Spanish people should try it too, the relating files are located in the install folder.
Good luck and Greetz, Brush2
Can it works with greek language?
Hi noolis,
i am afraid it only works with the:
Swype.*Language name*.zdb.le files.
Since there is no
Swype.Greece.zdb.le
in the install folder there is no chance.
Sorry,
Greetz, Brush2
OK but what if one wants to have two or three different languages available. I write a lot in French but need sometimes to send some emails in English ... pressing and holding 'q' does not open any windows with available languages, which is strange as files are available within the installed swype package ...

...okay, thought i just take the time for installing it..and it worked!
ive installed it, without deinstalling my old working swype with german dictionary. the old location of swype was Windows/swype.
installed duttys version on the storage card. after rebooting, ive got the new swype version with vibration and fixed problems, like holding keys and getting alternative inputs.
I tried it, works but has same problem as early version of the previous version. I recommend to not install it, it changes your "model name" file under the windows directory to t-mobile leo and could interfere with certain apps or functions that are specific to your carrier. I think this may cause problems with password sign-in too (may result in a hard reset?). Just wait for a reworked version, like for v3.9. Be cautious if u do.

Copy that folder to program files
soft reset your device..
sywpe will be ready to use..
You can delete the folder from program files once soft reset.
Also this can be done either on storage card or internal device..
both folders must be in same memory location

The error looks like that there is a line with in the update-script, which suppose to update the .ttf file, but in the update.zip itself, it doesnt exist.
the package and the update script dosent have nothig with the font folder\file.

in your case to solve sensor buttons problem use this file in attachment
1.extract and copy to sdcard
2.enter Terminal Emulator already installed on phone
3 write these lines
Code:
#su
#cp /mnt/sdcard/isdm_KeypadLayout.kl /custpack/usr/keylayout/isdm_KeypadLayout.kl
#reboot
do not use Root Explorer to copy !
this is the hard-way to solve problem
if you like the easy-way flash keys.SFA.zip by CWM recovery

Keyboard is not showing up. Did you forgot something?
I changed input language to Romanian and now it's working.
--------------------------------------------------------
So, I successfully installed your ROM. I also installed Apps2SD provided in archive, by following your instructions. All went good

yes this is true but not a problem will happen every time you flash again
due to apk optimization I made but after system will construct Dalvik-cache will never happen !
but not necessary to change language just try to activate keyboard by example try to write a sms if keyboard has no response press back out of sms app and enter to try again...
regarding a2sd I used to move Dalvik-cache to get more space to apks
by example compared to stock Cosmote ROM you got 150-105= 45 MB free
if you want to experiment with a2sd use this help
but carefully !
how to flash CWM recovery
-install SDK for Android
-copy recovery.img to location where you stored sdk tools something like this android-sdk\platform-tools
-enter fastboot mode (phone is connected to PC )
to enter fastboot mode press VolDOWN+Menu at phone startup for 10s phone display is blank
-enter this from line commander (bash/cmd.exe)
fastboot devices -to start service or test connection to PC
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img -to flash required CWM recovery to phone
to enter CWM recovery press VolUP+Menu for 10s at phone start
This is how I installed CWM

I made this regarding post #1 for people who are newbies in Android to help install this custom ROM
also I think fastboot is the strongest tool for Android because will help to solve a lot of problems!
in Windows Mobile this is a tricky task to recover from an unsuccessful flash !
google translator
hello, I installed this rom that you did install without problems, the phone works fast, touch screen sometimes does not work pressing 3-4 times and did not respond after a while I try works.
why it takes so long to load before having it loaded faster, with no load and no keyboard out how to log into your account
do not take this as a criticism to note that the problems I notice you are done great.
mate pls make black status bar....

read post #6
if this post isn't helpful for you try to install another keyboard from Market by ex search for hacker's keyboard
but for me post no 6 is the most appropriate answer to that question
by example for me keyboard works pretty well
I'm expecting feedback message !

ok
I will change status bar to black color in next version
regarding lock screen already have plans...but not very easy to do that
try to import framework from x10mini custom roms...
think that for qvga custom roms, for x10mini had gone most furder...
PS: must edit look of "phone app" it's terible...
PS: i have bug on lock screen
slide on "phone" opens emergency call
I fixed a keyboard got rоm in the original phone which foot to Cyrillic and now with the installation and install it.
problem with touch screen remains in most cases not responding to touch, sometimes works sometimes not.

this is not a bug just about settings... I CAN NOT make a custom rom for every person asking for ...you have to use Prop Editor app included but be careful ! If you want to customize install some themes ... there are a lot of themes for ADW.Launcher and this is very very customizable... in fact it's the same launcher as Cyanogenmod also you have Go Launcher on Market at one click install ...
to import framework from Xperia good thinking if you have 1 year time at your own discretion...
or if someone is paid to do that
...
this is my custom ROM ..so made to use by me and posted here if someone is interested.. if not ...you are free to use any other ROM !
also
to see features included in this ROM ... read post no 1 before install you see nothing about 'beautiful interface' just performance/stability/ MORE free space/ and....
a lot of features... BUT YOU HAVE TO LEARN how to use these things...
In your case I suggest to revert back to your stock ROM if you don't like this one
Best Regards,

problem with touchscreen anyway mine works well
revert back to stock rom to see differences but I suppose is not a problem anyway I really don't have this problem. I'm expecting feedback from other persons to see what is this about ?
regarding keyboard not showing up ... as some people say... it is as done in the next version I put a new keyboard in fact as I see all Android phones on market have 2 keyboards installed -mine just one !
maybe default Android keyboard needs help from third party to wake up from sleeping
to check this ...install another keyboard from Market by example look for haker's keyboard
but I think this also could be about deodexing/ zipalinging features on this ROM
If is so then during the second launch every app should start well - so is about keyboard
Best Regards ,
u understud me wrong, i'm very thankfull...
u done great job, but i'm every day in contact with some serious gadgets ...
so when I SEE THIS LOCK SCREEN AND PHONE APP AND STATUS BAR.... I get mad...
