[Q] Bootloader Question - HTC Inspire 4G

Ok. SO i recently got my Inspire, rooted, S-Off through bubby's kit and flashed LeeDroid. However, nowadays, my phone seems odd but I want to know, is it just my phone or is it an Inspire problem.
When I enter Bootloader mode, (Power and Vol Down), It will hang up for about 10 seconds then scroll some text real quick that looks the the text when flashing a new radio, where it is loading the zip. It will say no image than go into Bootloader where i can scroll around and enter recovery if i need. Is this normal? Or is there something wrong\going on?

It is perfectly normal. It will always do a search for a file to flash then go back to the boot loader.

friends, at this checking time if I have in sd card PD98IMG file it must read it right?
but my phone can not read it. its checking then again staying Hboot

Is the file that you are trying to flash a good file? Have you checked MD5 sums? Have you tried to download it again and tried the newer file? If you have tried these things already then format your sd card as fat32 and try after that. What are you trying to flash by the way? Are you stock or rooted? Also did you re save the file again on a Windows computer or have you changed the name in any way while it was on a Windows computer? Try this also, look at the file on a Windows computer and delete the ".zip" extension at the end and re save it. Then transfer it to your sd card.

[Solved] almost bricked mt4g. please verify my next step

First, let me say thanks to all who contribute. I started with a G1 when it first came out, using the JF mods and lurking these forums for hours. Without you guys, we'd all be stuck with boring stock devices!
Heres my question:
I've done a search and just want someone to verify my next planned step.
Tonight I think almost bricked my Mytouch 4g. I had root, and had CM6.1.2-RC2 installed. It was working great.
Then I wanted to get the CM7 nightlies working. I couldn't get the CM7 rom past the mytouch splash screen. So, I upgraded Rom Manager, and thought i had to upgrade ClockworkMod to 3.0 to get the CM7 nightly rom to boot. I accidentaly flashed the wrong ClockworkMod Recovery. I flashed the file that was for a G2 (vision). Rebooted without noticing my mistake, than noticed my error when I couldn't get into recovery mode.
Fortunately i installed Hboot during the rooting process. I'm planning on letting Hboot flash the file mentioned in this post to get back to stock:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10514066
What do you think?
Just don't want to get myself in deeper S...
Thanks again.
connect the usb and run adb. Boot into bootloader and flash the recovery 3.0??? that way. You'll be good to go after that

You can connect adb with the bootloader? I ran:
Code:
adb devices
and adb came back with no devices found.
How do I flash the recovery if adb has nothing to communicate with?
BTW, I'm using Hboot Engineering, and Hboot does recognize the usb connection by displaying: HBOOT USB PLUG
fastboot devices
fastboot devices
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
SOLVED
Thanks for trying to help osugsxr. I will have to read up on fastboot.
However, I did not follow your advice. I didn't get your reply in time to try fastboot. My impatient ADD personality went ahead and followed the advice in the thread that I referred to in my original post. In an effort to help others who may have gotten into a jam, heres what I did:
1. Took out my SD card and connected it to my PC via external SD card reader.
2. Because I had a ton of crap on the SD card, I formatted it FAT32 to have a clean card.
3. Downloaded the stock Glacier rom (A large 315mb file. Should have a filename like PD15IMG_Glacier_TMOUS_1.17.531.2_Radio_12.28b.60.140e_26.03.02.26_M_release_155771_signed.zip)
4. Copied the stock Glacier rom to the SD blank card.
5. Renamed the rom to PD15IMG.zip (maybe case sensitive, not sure)
6. Unmounted/Ejected the SD card from the PC reader an put it back in my phone.
7. Pulled the battery on my phone for about a minute then put it back in.
7. Hold volume down and the power button at the same time.
8. Hboot should start up, then after a few moments it will say loading PD15IMG.zip. After PD15IMG.zip loads, it will ask you "Do you want to start update?". Press VOL UP for Yes.
9. You will then see Hboot working its way down a list of about 9 items. Be patient, this takes a while. After this is done, it will say so, and tell you to press the power button to reboot.
Hopefully you have successfully flashed the stock rom, and your phone will be back to what it was like when you first bought it.
I attached pictures of the Hboot screen and flashing process for reference

[Guide] Stuck on White Screen/Hboot Read This

After seeing this issue quite a few times this past week I thought I make a tutorial on how to possibly fix this. If any of you see any errors or any way to improve this guide please let me know and ill include it and or adjust accordingly
Note-Make sure you have plenty of battery. You don’t want your phone dying in the middle of flashing a PD98IMG
If you are stuck in Hboot and have S-On or don't have access to an adapter go straight to Alternate method at the end
Rename to PD98IMG
Recovery: http://1drv.ms/1ke30zE
Inspire 4g pre-rooted Rom: http://db.tt/DCU3oW39 (only use if you have S-off)-
Inspire 4g stock Rom: http://1drv.ms/1ke3ohy
Telus DHD Rom: http://min.us/mTqXM8fTY
Reinstalling Recovery
For whatever reason you have wiped your custom recovery (My guess is you did a factory reset, thus erasing it). Personally I would try this first as one can go straight to a custom rom. If you don't want a custom rom feel free to go to the next section.
1) Back up anything you don’t want deleted from your sd card
2) Plug in sd card into computer through an adapter of some kind or another phone
3) Reformat the Sd Card to Fat32 – Do a full reformat not a quick
4) Once reformat is complete place the file downloaded from the first link on the sd card
5) Eject the sd card from computer and insert into phone
6) Power off phone by pulling the battery
7) Reinsert the battery
8) Boot into bootloader by pressing volume down and power button
9) It will scan for the file press volume up to accept update
10) It will ask you to reboot- you will still be stuck which is normal-
11) If everything is going to plan you now have access to recovery. So now we need to flash a rom. (Remember to delete the pd98 as it will prevent you from going into recovery)Skip down to the flashing rom section if you don’t know how to. If flashing the recovery didn't work continue to the next section
Reinstalling Recovery With No Card Reader
1) Download recovery above and place it in your fastboot directory
2) Boot into Hboot
3) Connect your phone to your PC
4) Select fastboot
5) Open up command prompt and CD to your Fastboot directory
6) Run the command fastboot erase cache
7) After the OK run fastboot oem rebootRUU
8) You'll see a new screen with HTC logo and a progress bar. here you need to run fastboot flash zip PD98IMG.zip
9) Once it completes (should say ok,finished, or complete) run fastboot reboot bootloader
10) Go into Recovery and flash a rom
Flashing a Stock Rom
Note- If you have S-Off i recommend flashing the prerooted version
1) If coming from previous section plug in sd card and delete old file then Jump to step 5
2) Back up anything you don’t want deleted from your sd card
3) Plug in sd card into computer through an adapter of some kind or another phone
4) Reformat the Sd Card to Fat32 – Do a full reformat not a quick
5) Once reformat is complete place the stock rom on the sd card
6) Eject the sd card from computer and insert into phone
7) Power off phone by pulling the battery
8) Reinsert the battery
9) Boot into bootloader by pressing volume down and power button
10) It will scan for the file press volume up to accept update
11) If everything is going to plan you now should have a fully working phone
12) At this point you are un-rooted so if you want re-root I recommend using the ace hack kit. (unless you used a pre-rooted stock rom then no need to use hack kit)
NOTE- IF EITHER FLASHING THE STOCK ROM OR RECOVERY PD98 FILES HAVE NOT WORKED REPEAT PROCEDURE WITH A DIFFERENT SD CARD
Flashing a Rom
1) So we were able to re-flash a custom recovery. Connect sd card to computer and delete the PD98img file
2) Download the rom of your choice and any super wipe zips if your rom needs it
3) Place file on sd card eject and reinsert onto phone
4) Boot in bootloader.
5) This time it will scan and not find any files. After it scans scroll down and select recovery.
6) You should now be in CWR. Do a full wipe (wipe data, cache, and dalvik cache-found in advanced I think
a. If recommended by your rom uses a super wipe zip. Simply choose install from sd card in CWR and select the super wipe zip
7) Now flash the rom by selecting install from sd card and choosing rom
Alternate-Flashing of RUU
This is for those that don’t have access to an adapter to place files with. This should work whether your S-on or S-Off
RUU’s: http://goo.im/ruu/ace
1) Download your RUU from above
2) Boot into Hboot
3) Connect your phone to your PC
4) Select fastboot
5) Run the RUU program

First, confirm that you can boot into Hboot. If you can, then try Gene Pole's method, but you need a SD Card reader in order to put the zip file in the card.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16451214&postcount=1
Otherwise you can try to boot in recovery selecting it from Hboot menu and try to flash other rom.
Hope it helps....

I can not boot into Hboot...because when I tries flashing with RUU flasher..it gave me error and now I am stuck on hTc logo screen. I have to pull battery out to get out of that screen and when I plug in to computer of just turn on same htc screen with "triangle mark" in all four corners...I am so frustrated..Please hlep
Don't plug in phone. Pull the battery, reinsert and quickly press and hold the volume down and power button? What happened then?
Same htc screen with 4 triangles in corners.
Well don't panic.its only a phone I haven't seen an error 152, so I got look up what that means. You also mentioned that the you flashed the ruu several times? Did it ever complete or always errored out?
Edit- when you first tried the ruu were you ever able to enter hboot to begin with?

Don´t use the Flasher...use the cell straight foward....if you cant go into Hboot then try to boot in fastboot,....
plug to AC and keep pressing power...the led will turn red and green and then boot in fastboot. From there you might be able to use the hack kit to revert to stock.
If that is not working try to contact Gene Pole or Attn1 in the irc channel....he might help you better that I.

Hello all, have an HTC Inspire s-off h-b00t 0.85.0007. When the phone powers up, the bootloader is the only screen that comes up and is frozen. Cant use volume control or power button.
When you power it up is it booting straight into hboot? If so sounds like your volume button is stuck
Booting straight in to Hboot. He apparently did a factory reset, and when it rebooted it locked up. Cant get past step 12 of parsing the zip file for PD98IMG.zip on the root of the SD card (tried 2 2gbs, 1 1gb, and 1 8gb). 3 of the SD cards would only get to step 4 and freeze.
hboot 0.85.0007
s-off
Attached a couple of pictures, the first was from the rooted.zip and the second was from the non rooted.zip. I also attempted the recovery.zip (all named PD98IMG.zip)

Hard to understand how a hardware issue happens from applying a factory reset, not to say impossible... in my mind improbable, but what do I know. Thanks for the info.

the fact is that if you are rooted then a factory reset erases everything from your phone!! you get stuck if you don't flash other rom. If the volumen rocker is broken then you will boot always in hboot...don't actually know how the wipe happened but....did you have a PD98IMG.zip file in your sdcard??...that might explain it better...

Is it bricked??!!?!?...Need a Genius

Hi all, so I am helping my nephew trying to fix his sensation, but I dont know if I can...he just got it used, and it hadnt been rooted...he helped me root mine way back when....so He said he htc dev the phone all went well, unlocked, s-on and cwm touch, and flashed SU...BUT..he flashed elegancia Pegasus..but after helping him try to fix it i noticed in his phone he is hboot 1.27...so he has s-on still...he did not make a backup...(I asked, he said wasnt sure why)...lol...so now...his phone will go into cwm recovery, but nothing to recover...if he reboots it and does nothing, he is stuck at htc splash screen ....nothing happens...and can alsoget into hboot...bootloader etc etc...just no OS basically...I have tried all kinds of stuff to help him but I just dont know what to do next...can someone please help and see if we cant at least get his phone working again?..."Uncle cant afford to buy him a new phone"...and he isnt getting mine...lol....when i tried to get it in usb mode through recovery to try to get some files to the phone it says something like ums lumpfile??..something like that also...this thing is messed up....please dont give me links with more confusion...lol....I need one on one here folks....Thanks so much,,,,

You need to flash the boot.img of the ROM that is why the device will not boot into the OS. You can either use fastboot commands or flash 4 EXT Recovery and use the Smart Flash in it. Download this PG58IMG.zip and place it on the root of your SD card, you can put his SD card in your Sensation and download the file to the SD card. Jusgt make sure you move it to the root of the SD card. Then put the SD card in his Sensation and power the device on holding the volume down button down. When Hboot comes up it will detect the file and ask you if you want to flash it, press the volume up button and let it flash. Then take the SD card out of the device and press the power button to reboot the device. Next put the SD card with the ROM in the device and select recovery. When 4 EXT Recovery boots up select tools and then enable Smart Flash and then go back to the main menu and select install from sdcard thenn select choose zip fromsdcard and then select the ROM. Press yes and let the ROM flash and then reboot the device. It will flash the boot.img when it reboots and then reboot again and you should have a working device again.
I dont have a rom on the phone...that I know of...where can i get the stock one at?...really confused here, also i did the above file Pg58img and it said cid incorrect..update fail...where can i get the 4ext recovery?..ty so much!!!!!
I did some searching and found that the 4ext is an apk...cant use that as I have no useable phone....
I fixed it, had to push the correct firmware to phone, and installed ext4 recovery, and it worked fine...thanks for the help

[Q] 4ext recovery error causes reboot?

I just wanted to install the clockmod recovery in order to flash a new rom. (My phone wont download anything I thought the version is too old)
Since my phone was rooted, I just went straight to download the 4 ext recovery and installed it as the video showed on Youtube.
everything was OK until the very last step, which is restarting the phone and get into to boot loader? I forgot to uncheck the fast boot, so repeated to run 4ext and restart the phone many times. after unckecked the the fastboot first time, I successfully got into the boot loader but it didn't allow me to make the recovery there is only one option, (hit the power to something I cant remember) so nothing changed this time. Then I repeated it once more, this time it turns out two option, to update or not, then I hit the update, finally it shows me to hit power to reboot.. everything in my phone is gone now except the rom manager and super user apps.
But everything in sd card is still there, just the phone couldnt recognized the card now....
What can I do now???
you could try taking loading your sd card to a computer, copy everything off and reformat and try. You try to load another ROM. What happens if you start the phone without a SD Card in the phone?

You meant to reformat my sdcard then flash the new rom? But I still need to install the 4ext recovery before flashing the new rom, right?
Yes you could do that, you guy try using Clock work mod. Works the same way, minus the touch feature. The only reason i say reformat your sd card is because you said it was not being recognized by the phone.
What happens if you power up your phone with no sd card installed?

Nothing happened when I uninstalled the sdcard, but when I reinstalled it and powered up, it did show preparing the sd card on top...
But all the old apps and contacts are still missing, did I just wipe them all??? Is there anyway to recover them??
If I did wipe everything, how come it doesn't change anything when I open the "removable disk" in my computer
if you are using a Google account. then you just have to resync your account and you will get your contacts back. The apps are gone and will have to be redownloaded unless you made a backup. Like coping the sd card contents to your computer and then putting them back on your card. If you redownload the apps, your data should still be there to use.

Sry being a noob, isn't 4ext a CWM software? I just follow a guy who made a tutorial to install codefireX Builds rom on youtube, he said before flash the rom, I need to root my phone which I already did, and install clockwork recovery mod, which 4ext is good for it.

1. CWM and 4ext are both recoveries. Though 4ext was based on CWM at some point, they are separate recoveries.
2. What, exactly, step by step, did this video have you do?
3. For future reference, I don't advise using videos. They can be outdated and/or just plain inaccurate, and fewer people view them, so problems aren't pointed out as quickly.

I just downloaded the 4ext free version and installed it, after that, it told me to enter the hboot (press volume down and power button), which caused my problem.

Hmm.. best bet would be adb fastboot.
Download the 4ext recovery image (not sure where to get the .IMG file but google and you'll find it =})
Then rename it recovery.IMG and put it where your adb.exe is (C:\Windows\System32 if you used Advance Ace Hack Kit)
Then type adb adb flash recovery recovery.IMG and it should flash 4ext
Then put a Rom on the SD Card and flash it using 4EXT =)
TheCorner approves..
That Thanks button ain't gonna push itself!

this is the video I was watching http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uuFTPMr0v_A
He said I need to root and install recovery before flash the rom, so I was just trying to install the recovery.

Are you S-OFF, do you have recovery installed? CWM or 4ext are just the same to flash a rom as long you have a recovery installed. To flash a partition you need to be whether S-OFF or have the bootloader unlocked....what situation is yours?
Let me tell you something that I share with MissB up there...that video sucks..there are lots of GOOD tutorials on how to flash a rom, but of course you need to read first...if not just ask the guy who did the video. Flashing and hacking is not for the lazy ones.

[Q] Need help with flashing recovery image PLEASE!

Hi everyone,
Forgive me if this is a noob question but I've been searching all night and I cannot find a solution.
Background - A friends sister recently passed away and she asked me if I could somehow get the data off of her phone. The phone is a Boost Mobile LG855 (Marquee). It is not rooted, is not in debug mode and is keylocked. We don't have the unlock code so based on what I've read, my only hope is to get CWM somehow flashed on the phone and use it to back up the phone data to the SD card.
Because I cannot get the phone into debug mode and there doesn't seem to be a download mode on this phone, any of the USB-based flashing techniques will not work. I am able to connect the phone as a storage device and access the SD card from my computer but I can't get the computer to recognize it as an ADB device. So that rules out the fastboot, adb or odin-like methods. I believe my only hope is to use the stock recovery to flash CWM from the SD Card (update.zip method).
I downloaded the CWM image for this phone (recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.8-marquee.img) but I can only flash a file called "update.zip" from the stock recovery options. I read somewhere that I should be able to rename the image file to "recovery.img" and put it in an uncompressed "update.zip" file which I did. I copied it to the SD card and tried the flash it only to get the dreaded "E: signature verification failed" "installation aborted." message.
Here are my questions:
Is what I am trying to do even possible?
Can I flash a .img image by sticking it in an update.zip file?
Do I need to create a /dev/recovery/ structure inside the zip file?
If so, how do I fix the zip file so it doesn't fail the signature verification?
Is there a better way to do what I am trying to do?
There are all kinds of tutorials on how to use CWM to flash things from the SD card but surprisingly few that describe how to do what I am trying.
Any help or suggestions would be most appreciated. Thank you so much in advance.

None of this is necessary..
You can not flash a zip made by us from stock Recovery.
Your final hope is fastboot mode.
Before that, Install Minimal ADB and Fastboot in PC (Google it)
Switch off the mobile.
Hold any button combination like Power + Volume Up (or whatever, it's specific to phone) which will take you to a boot menu.
Connect phone to PC.
Select fastboot option in that menu from phone.
Now open Minimal ADB and Fastboot desktop icon and type the following:
Code:
fastboot boot recovery location_of_recovery\recovery.img
This will boot the CWM recovery.
Do whatever you want there
Thanks for your suggestion. I did start to go down that road and installed fastboot/adb. I gave up when the only key combination I could find for this stupid phone was power+volume down to boot into recovery. I will search more on whether there is a boot menu available on Boost Mobiles crappy stock ROM. Will update on what I find.
Thx again for the suggestion.

Inside the recovery, check if you have an option like 'bootloader' or 'fastboot' or 'debug'
If there's something like that, that's the fastboot mode.
Some phones don't have fastboot mode, so the phone might be one of those if there's nothing like that
Anyway, what data do you want to recover from the phone??
Believe it or not, I'm reading that these LG phones require a special cable from shady overseas websites to access the boot loader and flash capabilities.
Awesome...

Ya there's nothing like that unfortunately.
Mainly contacts and text messages. There's suspicions that her bf may have had something to do with her death and the police won't bother to do forensics on the phone so she asked if I could help.
I've been doing more research on this and have established that there is no way to get the LG855 (Marquee) into bootloader mode and no way to unlock the bootloader without getting past the keylock, I'm back to square one.
So my question remains, is there a way to convert a CWM recovery image (.img) file into a properly signed update.zip file that I can use the stock recovery to flash onto the phone from the SD card?
Thanks.

I found this - which may help me sign the zip file.

Still not sure if the .img file will flash properly without making changes to it. Any thoughts?

You can never flash a zip file created by us from stock recovery.
You can do it from custom recovery.
However hard you try, you can never do it from stock recovery. It's waste of time

Appreciated. I'm not one to give up though. I think I'll try this and let you know if it works. Thanks for all of your advice.
