[Q] isn't the SD cause of the battery drain ? - Touch Pro, Fuze General

hello,
while android is running there is heavy read/write-traffic on the SD-card.
It's not only, that it's booted from SD - it also writes logs etc. to SD-card all the time.
so writing to a sd-card uses a lot of battery-power as we all know.
I think this might be the cause of our bad battery-lifes.
can't we install to internal storage instead? it does not need to be NAND, just moving the .img files to internal storage.
plus we should minimize writings like logs etc. - is that possible ?

The main cause of battery drain on RAPH/DIAM is panel collapse.
The panel drains a ton of power, and on RAPH/DIAM we haven't figured out how to take it out of collapse... so we can collapse it and save a ton of battery power, but we can't wake it back up... so it's left on all the time.
We can't install to internal storage, that will not work. Nice try tho...

Sorry, but what exactly do you mean by "panel collapse"? I observed that the battery charges quicker in Android ROM than in WM and the discharging process is likewise.

Panel collapse = the panel on the phone (the display...) is not being shutdown when in sleep. So it's still sucking power even when the phone is sleeping...
Charging/discharging isn't accurate in Android.

you're right. i heard of this panel problem before. surely a big battery eater!
is this only on RAPH/DIAM ?
but anyway let's talk about the SD also: i wonder why it'S not possible to put the .img to the internal storage at least. isn't it also a fat-filesystem ? why is it not possible to mount this and use this ? can you please explain ?
i think using this flash might not need as many battery as external SD cards.
thank you.

I've read,i don't remember where that wm's nand isn't fat32/16
It's something else
And system is about 100 mb,data is 256(you can resize it,but you won't be able to use a lot of apps)
So in diamond is undoable..

So that screen turn off function should be rewritten? I found an interesting thing: look at the first answer here http://stackoverflow.com/questions/5120185/android-sleep-standby-mode .

I don't know if it's a driver for the panel or what, but basically there is no code in the kernel to collapse the panel when you turn off the screen. It simply sets the brightness to 0 and turns off the backlight on the panel - so it *appears* to be off, when in fact it's still draining power.
Need a kernel dev with a RAPH and a lot of free time... .

Y'all need to peek over to the Kaiser forum for a look-see...
ANY info pertaining to porting android through Haret is there, including patches and battery info.
There has to be something wrong with the Raphael build because with a standard 1350mAh battery I get a full days use and have some left over for whatever I need. Mind you, my day starts at 4AM EST and usually ends around 10PM, giving me a full 18 hours of use, and with the newest kernel there's no lock-ups or data corruption (NAND installs the /data partition internally and the /cache partition used to be part of that).
Just a thought...

Do they have the same panel...? I don't think so.
I'm really not joking about what I said earlier. That's really the cause of probably 70% the drain... the backlight is turned off and the brightness set to 0, but the panel itself is still drawing power. Obviously there's other things that drain power, but that one is a constant suckor that you cannot avoid (lest you fix the issue in the kernel - which again, if you can please do. Patches welcome!)

I guess there is no update on this issue. Looks like my Touch Pro will forever be plagued by the panel collapse issue.

You act like you've paid some developers hundreds of thousands of dollars with official documentation and they have failed you miserably.
If it bothers you that much, the project we run at XDAndroid is completely open source - the main problem is there's no official hardware documentation on these devices - HTC doesn't release stuff like that, neither does Qualcomm.

SD is not cause of battery drain.

Battery Drain in HTC touch pro after flashing with Energy ROM

HI Friends,
Can anyone suggest what needs to be done as my HTC touch pro is unable to give atleast 1 day battery backup after flashing with Energy ROM.
Can listen to music nor brwose internet for long time.literally gives me half day batter backup. But before it used to give atleast 2 days.
Solution plZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.
Suggest a good ROM with good battery backup along with Energy kind of GUI.
What happend to you is that the rillphone version embended in the latest Energy ROM is not working proply with the radio ROM u have installed.
The solution is to install the appropiate rillphone for your radio ROM.
Search the forum for the rillphone and radio threads

Reading goes a long way. But maybe I'm being a bit too presumptuous.
Did you by any chance actually take the time to read this section under post #6?:
BATTERY SAVING TIPS
The first few days
• There is nothing special about this ROM to make it use more power than other ROMs except that it is tweaked for performance over battery life. After things have settled down, you should get a couple of days usage out of a charge.
• Immediately after flashing, you will probably observe very poor battery performance. This is due to the charging circuit having to reset itself.
• The battery meter will not settle down and give accurate readings for a few battery cycles. Give it a few days.
• For the first few battery charging cycles, try to charge to 100% with phone off and then allow battery to drain down quite a bit before recharging. This is so the meter will calculate drain well.
Recommendations
• Make sure you followed all of the flashing instructions to the letter. Especially the part about the hard reset.
• Backlight is set to high. You might want to change that.
• 3G is on by default. Recommendation is to turn it off when you are not surfing the internet.
• Don't drain your batery all the way down until it dies. Not good for these types of batteries.
• The GPS sucks the battery dry. If you want to keep track of yourself, consider something like GPSToday that only wakes up the GPS once in a while.
• Maybe you don't really need aGPS enabled. Disable and check GPS lock times and battery drain.
• Applications that run from the storage card consume more power so install oft-used or background-type applications to main memory.
Troubleshooting
• If your radio does not match your rilphone.dll you can get crazy bad battery drainage. Use the recommended radio or spend some time working out a good combination for your phone/carrier/location/usage.
• Check to see that some application is not still running in the background. Check, do not assume. USe the full Task Manager application.
• Check to see if the screen is still on when you expect it to be off. Soft reset can fix that issue.
• Some radios work better with some carriers and locations. Asking everyone to tell you what radio to use may not give you the best answer. Be specific about your situation.
• More stuff you should see HERE
If you have tried all the above and still can't get over a day with moderate use, you may actually have a bad battery. Try getting a new one that is made by another manufacturer.
Friends,
My phone is unlocked
Please suggest if i can change the radio to latest one like this(BlackStone_Radio_1.17.25.09).the ROM that is there 1.13.25.24 is from april 2009.

unless you bought olipro's cid unlocker, what you basically did is "unlocking" your hardspl, which is NOT what you're talking about
you basically can't flash radios of other devices in your touch pro, unless, ofcourse, you buy olipro's cid unlocker. But that doesn't really prevents the risk of bricking your phone.
Battery saving tips fine tweaked.
Use advanced config located in the tools folder of the latest energyrom...set all power management options to enabled, in the performance section file system filter should be set to 4096, system canche size to auto, file system cache enabled. Try to install programs that are used frequently to the internal memory storage rather than storage card. don't use 3g if you are not surfing. Backlight should be set to auto. After you flash any rom make sure you cycle your battery 3-5 full charge cycles before you deem it having poor battery draining.
As for radio to be safe from battery drain use same radio and rilphone.
I personally use which yields great performance and good battery
rilphone 1.14.25.35
raido 1.17.25.09
I live in chicago USA
Oh yeah...stay with energy

I have flashed My pro with Radio V.1.14.25.35 with the same rilphone. Will also try the advance config and test it for a while.
The battery problem is related to the 2.0 cookie which is still in Beta. There is a patch released which used to help a little bit, but in the last 21683 build it doesn't do much.
If you want your battery to last as before, install the ROM version without 2.0Cookie. There you will get a stable CHT v.1.8.5 and the battery will perform again as it should.

Don't waste your time fiddling with the caches. Any improvements observed are just placebos. The cache settings all have to be made in the boot.rgu of the rom prior to cooking the device. Also, cachesize (which is the tweak that advanced config tries to set) is an obsolete registry key that does nothing in WM5 and later. You can only successfully change the cache sizes post cooking and flashing with WM2003 devices.
Actually it is just the energy rom, I went from tael to energy and my battery life went to less then a day on standby. Went back to tael and the issue was gone. No it's not the radio because I always install .35 radio&ril after all new rom flashes (as well as the fact I use task29). If it was the charging circuit I'd have similar battery life with tael after I flashed it back from energy. But as it sits I can go quite sometime on standby (week?) with tael right after a flash. I can understand having less battery life but less than 24 hours on standby is certainly the rom itself. That's without 3G on since for whatever reason I can't get 3G on any phone that's not an iPhone.
Rom versions I used:
Energy.RAPHAEL.21916.Sense2.5.Cookie.2.0.GTX.Nov.03
TAEL Sept17
TAEL rom is good..along with it i would prefer any other stable rom with good gui and battery backup...

[Q] S-OFF... what now?

Hey all
First time poster long time lurker
I finally took the plunge and rooted my phone (using Revolutionary)
Sadly, I'm stuck!
nb. On the boot screen (volume+Power), it says S-OFF
What do I do now, if I want to install a ROM (or revert back to my old build)?
Thanks in advance

Christ, that wasn't a long winded post....!
Next step is to install a custom recovery and root your STOCK ROM.
Although if you choose to download and install CWM as part of the revolutionary process you may already have the custom recovery installed. In which case simply download a custom ROM (which all come pre-rooted) to your SD and then flash it, although ensure that you read all the installation instructions first.
If you didn't install CWM as part of the S-OFF process then look at my signature where there are a couple of links
1) adb & fastboot
download this and extract contents onto PC
2) Flash CWM & su via fastboot
follow instructions in this thread to flash both the custom recovery (ensure that you get the version for your device SAGA)
Then I'd suggest you enter CWM and take whats known as a Nandroid backup of your device.
Then you should be able to download any custom ROM you like.
Any questions then ask, you should never do any steps that you are unsure or uncomfortable with as you can do damage to your device!
Cheers for the reply, ben_pyett!
I'll make a start now
I know it's not that complicated a prcoess, but I kinda jumped in assuming it'd take 5 minutes, I guess
I've flashed the Cyanogen 7.1.0 RC by NeoLogix onto both mine and my wife's handsets... and I have to say it's VERY impressive!
Initially it doubled the battery life, and with some clever settings tweaks (which I'm more than happy to post here, menu by menu, if you end up using the same ROM) I've more than quadrupled the effective battery runtime.

Here's the way I find best.... switch your phone OFF, but leave it plugged in via USB.
From your command prompt, type "adb reboot recovery"
The phone will then boot to recovery

Sounds like you've made huge progress...
I'm assuming that you've also push'd the SU file while in fastboot? if not do that as well.
At this point you should decide which custom ROM you wish to install and download that and all its add-ons and place them on you SD card so that you are able to use them once you're in RECOVERY. You should probably take the time while the ROM downloads to read the install instructions that come with the ROM, that often involve running additional WIPE scripts etc....but each ROM is different.
Anyway back to the question you asked, how to enter CWM (clock work mod) which is your custom recovery.
You should normally boot your phone and then go into Settings->Power->fast boot and ensure that its un-ticked.
Easy Way
Install ROM Manager from the market and then choose the Reboot into Recovery Option (second one down from top) and voila!
Manual Way
Power Off your phone.
Turn on your phone by pressing Power button + Volume Down button together.
You should now see the white HBOOT screen, using the volume up & down buttons to flick through options and Power button as enter you should be able to find the RECOVERY option. go into that.
Don't worry once you have a custom ROM things will be easier as most customs have an Advanced power Menu which has reboot into recovery as an option.

What do I choose in the menu to install a ROM?

Does the ROM have to be at the root of the SD?
Can the ROM be named anything you wish, or does it have to be named "update.zip"?
Still a little confused!

This is the option that you need install ZIP from sdcard
The ROM can be called anything you want, I never bother renaming the ROM files that the cooks call them, so that I can easily identify which is which and it can be position in any location on the SD not just the root directory. Although try to avoid directories with spaces in for now.
Update.zip is something else so don't use that option.
Once you've done this I'd also download and install the CUSTOM recovery EXT4 as its much easier to use....you can do that by simply installing the following APK which you'll find in this post and that will install the new recovery for you.
best of luck...back in two hours.....got to go and watch MANCHESTER UNITED NOW!

Thanks for the helps, guys!
ps. if wanted to install another ROM, do I need to uninstall the previous one (wipe it again?), or can I just copy another ROM over and install like I did before?
Zofu i suggest you flash virtuus unity! its a great sense 3 rom. i love it! it has brought my desire s to life!!
You shouldn't be swayed by any of our opinions with regards which ROM to choose, I'd suggest that you install all of them one after each and decide for yourself which one suits you most
Although first question is sense or no sense.
The reason why there are so many roms is because we all have such differing tastes
Enjoy
PS
There is no UN install task, but each ROM will have its own install instructions in the first post of the thread which will have it's own wipe recommendations

I just got my Desire S as a gift not 3 days ago and it is my first android phone.
As soon as I realized that there is something wrong with it's rapid battery depletion - I started reading up on it and presently I have red led/green led tried to calibrate battery(i think it helped some), turned off all syncing to manual, changed themes to black and no animations, turned off bluetooth etc...Basically I have stopped everything "smart" on this smart phone following dozens of advice pages on this and other forums...Which then brings me right back to battery consumption of my DISPLAY - still, even after reducing brightness to under 40% it is using around 80% of all battery per charge.
I have rooted the phone today and really need your advice on:
what ROM
kernel
radio
OS
, or anything else in terms of apps and widgets to install in order to try and at least double my battery life so I can be safe without charging for at least 12 hours of i.e.( if I'm in a train to be able to watch a movie, listen to music 3 hrs, surf 1.5 hrs, do 3 or 4 15 minute calls , text and read books for couple of hours and still have battery left in standby) - or is it just a pipe dream of mine lol...
P.S. maybe avoid flashing ROM if there is another way to reduce Display consumption(80%)
Thx much, btw, is Cyanogen is the way to go???
To add to ben_pyett's suggestion... I wouldn't exactly just "install each one, one after another" as there is actually a finite number of times the ROM can be flashed before you start to damage the internal memory (sure, it's a high number, but why cause more wear than you have to, right?)
I'd suggest you read up on the ROMs before you decide to try them out! Take a look at what features they have, what people have to say about them (particularly looking for bugs and potential problems).
Hell, if you're lucky, you may even find an introductory video to some ROMs on YouTube, which will give you a little more insight into what to expect.
As Ben said, the first question is "To Sense, or not to Sense?"
As a matter of personal opinion, I've chosen "not to Sense" in favor of better battery runtime and the "cleaner" GUI.

I spent days trying to tweak the stock Desire S ROM (and again after the update I applied ~ a week ago) with quite literally no success!
Even with the most riggorous (performance and feature restricting) power management setup, I still couldn't get the thing to pass the 18 hour mark (which I only achieved with the help of Tasker, used to toggle Airplane Mode during my sleeping hours etc.)
Having switched to the CM7 ROM linked previously, and using nothing but a combination of changing its default settings, and SetCPU (to scale the CPU clock for superior power saving with literally NO performance hit), it'll now run for almost 48 hours between charges (more than sufficient, wouldn't you agree?)
I'll post a separate thread in here with a complete battery optimization guide for the aforementioned ROM.
Just to clarify, after more than 4 hours running on the battery (at least half of which with the display on and the phone in use) it has gone from full to just 90%, which in itself averages to about 40 hours of runtime.
Coupled with my SetCPU scaling, this adds ~8 more hours!
This means that, with moderately heavy use (though I haven't yet had time to test absolute runtime with HD 720p video playback just yet) you can expect a screen & WiFi ON time of 24 hours, with a standby time (again, with WiFi on) of a further 24 hours!

Battery Use:
Mobile Standby: 74% (that's the GSM radio)
Wi-Fi: 12%

EDIT: The GSM registers heavily on "Mobile Standby" because I cannot get any cell reception where I live (AT ALL), so the GSM is idling, constantly looking for a carrier. If you're in a GSM (or better) environment, you can expect the "Mobile Standby" value to be substancially lower, most likely with other feautres such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or GPS leading the consumption values (dependant on what you've got enabled)

We are new to Android at some point, this is my first Android device.......but I've had many HTC Sense Windows mobile devices beforehand and most of the same things tend to apply.
I'd suggest as a first port of call you read this thread which is a GUIDE, and sticky for a reason kindly written by wnp_79, I learnt loads from reading this alone.
Don't expect to learn everything in a days....it takes weeks or months.....
just enjoy....and remember that we're all different have differing expectations and uses for the same devices so what suits one of us doesn't always suit the other.
ps
you shouldn't really go off topic like this.....if you need specific help say so and create a new thread or read the sticky threads which contain GUIDES and links to many useful resources. Don't expect to become an expert over night and attempt to learn as much as possible by simply reading before you risk damaging your device!

HOW to check your battery life ( HTC HELP CENTRE )

Today i contacted HTC Center to ask them about the battery drain issue and overheating happes after updating to ICS they didn't give me a quit good answer for all they questions but,, they give a way to check battery life ..
NOTE: if ur device dzn't pass this send it back to repair
1ST A range of 10-20 hours of battery life is normal based on individual usage patterns, you may try dialing *#*#4636#*#* to check the battery information including health and status.
To optimize the performance of the battery follow the below:
1. turn off Wireless connections (Wi-Fi, Mobile Network, Bluetooth) when not in use
2. Stop services and apps running in the background by going to menu> settings> applications> Running services> tap the service you want to close> tap stop/Close.
3. Adjust the display settings to where it uses less battery and meets your needs
Here are also some tips for you to conserve battery life if you are experiencing this issue.
? Try rebooting your phone every few hours. Rebooting your phone clears the phone internal memory and shuts down programs that may be running in the background and using battery.
? Try turning off the data connection when not in use. Data connections in the background and syncing can cause the phone to use more battery even when sleeping.
? You can set your display to brightness to auto. Allowing the phone to adjust the brightness allows for optimal viewing while conserving as much battery as possible.
IMPORTANT
You may also try the battery test, by following the instructions below:
1. Restart your device
2. Turn on Airplane Mode
3. Connect your device to the charger, and charge it fully
4. Set Screen Brightness to Max.
5. Set Screen Time out to never.
6. Dial *#*#3424#*#*, choose battery run down test, and follow the instructions.
NOTE: If the device loses more than 40% of battery in an hour, then send your device to the repair center for repair.
pplzzzz post somthing to keep the thread alive.
IF you like it HIT

Sorry to burst your bubble but these step will actually reduce the battery , if your phone drains a lot and heats up you have a faulty device that's it.
If you reboot often phone consumes a lot more by loading everything AGAIN it wont save your battery at all.
Autobrightness doesn't always work , its better if you manually set it to 35%- 40%.
Turning off wireless and data will conserve battery that's like smartphone 101 , who doesn't know that?
Android and particularly ICS automatically terminates unnecessary background processes, there is no point in killing them. In fact if you do that often it will consume more battery to start them again if they are needed. Just remember to swipe away apps after you're done, ICS will take care of the rest.
As for the battery tip , after you initiate the test phone will ask you to turn airplane mode on, it will also keep the max brightness level and wont turn off the screen so there is no need to perform the steps you've posted.
posting to keep it alive lol
i didn't either convinced with there answers as i told they wasn't direct ....
this is just a test nothing else...
and about overheating and reboots it's only happen to allot of people after ICS update
i do normally after flashing any rom set the brightness to 35% ..
lol
i did the 1 hour test and my battery level get down to 74%
the battery heat was between 32.3 to 43.7 C

While I agree with you on most of the other points, this one needs a bit of explanation. Although, the memory management in ICS is far better and is a bit like what Windows Vista and 7 do, at times you do need to kill some messy programs which play with system privileges and hog battery, like the famous facebook application.
GB and ICS use in-memory program caching like Vista and Windows 7, i.e. they keep frequently running programs in RAM and use as much memory as possible (or in sane limits in case of 7) for this task. It is freed automatically if a program requires more RAM. Thats why even when a large part of memory appears to be consumed most of the times on ICS/GB and Vista/7, large program still run perfectly well. The OS is just consuming the RAM that is lying around when no program is using it. GB and ICS even introduced a "Cached Applications" view in their "Running Apps" screen to take a look at these cached apps.
This makes the killing of background processes optimized for the OS as processes which are not used for long time can be marked inactive first and then cached. These cached processes can then be removed in cases memory is required by some program.
But there are some nasty apps like the Facebook app which not only keeps processes in background, but also keeps them active and mark the services spawned from the main executable as system services hence they are not killed at all. Facebook's background upload system, the so called "push notifications" service, all these take CPU and other resources all the time and dramatically reduce the battery life. Hence killing these manually is still required.
This is my personal experience or perception or whatever.

What you're saying is true but its still not accurate. As you mentioned facebook is marking its processes as system service which means it gonna try to start again automatically. As I said before there is no point in killing, also facebook made some improvements in this area. I remember that old version was using about 40mb of ram when it was idling but now it uses about 8-9mb. As for the push notifications I've disabled them so I cant comment on that but I do know that its not always working.

You may as well talk to a wall.
This guy makes stuff up and posts it as fact, then begs for thanks for his posts. He claims he's an expert but doesn't know the most basic things about how Android phones work.
I mean for crying out loud....ICS is well known to add about 20% to battery life. It's one of the best features of the new version. There were countless threads about the improvement people saw when first switching to ICS a few months ago when it first started to come out. Yet this thread basically suggests that it's a known fact that ICS causes increased battery drain.
Taking his advice is somewhere between counterproductive to your goals and downright dangerous to your device depending on what he's suggesting.
Guys, please stay on topic. There is no need to call this guide "dangerous".
His points might not bring any advantage but they are not dangerous either.

When you suggest mixing and matching elements of different versions of hacked firmware, that most certainly is dangerous. (For the phone anyway)
So much can go wrong doing a thing like that.
And when someone is recomending doing that as a sollution to every new problem someone suggests without regard to ROM, current firmware, the specific problem, android version, etc etc.....that is irresponcible.
Thats what this guy is doing in several other threads. This thread isnt one of the damgerous ones. Its one of the counterproductive ones I mentioned.
Someone will screw up thier phone with this advice. Pointing this out is not insulting to 1 person. Its being helpful to hundreds.
If we just sit silently and not say anything about bad advice, we wouldnt be very good forum members.

Not true. No documented cases of it harming the Sensation. 3.12 and 3.32 are very similar. Also, with the development mode flash fix coming out any day now, even if someone bugs up their hboot or something, it'll be recoverable similar to how Samsung phones to use ODIN to completely flash back.

[Q] Battery Life

Alright, I think I might be having some issues, and I was wondering what your battery life like?
I charged mine earlier this week, used it a little bit after I pulled it off the charger and have barely touched it since. This morning when I went to go and watcha Youtube Video, my tablet was completely dead. Now I used it about 2 days ago and it still had over a 40% charge. To me it seems odd that the tablet drained over 40% just sitting there for 2 days.
I checked the battery manager for some statistics and the most battery draining services were the Screen at 34%, Tablet Idle at 22% and Android OS at 18%. I am not sure if this is normal for the Shield Tablet or if I might have something stuck running in the background or might even have a defective unit.
So I guess my question for you guys other than what your battery life is like, is do you think this is normal? Or should I try a factory rest? Any other suggestions? Returning it to BestBuy is an option as I bought it about a week and a half ago.
Thanks for the tips

I'd try to manage background applications with Greenify. You'd have some more options like BootManager if you have root. Don't worry, root will disappear upon factory reset if needed for returns. Besides those two controlling agents, there is a flashable MOD I discovered recently called ComoDose 3.5 here on XDA. With all three, my S3 hits the bed as soon as I turn off the screen, boosting idle time tremendously. You'd need to go a step further and install a custom recovery to try ComoDose; if you have any issue and need to return, there is already a guide here on how to get rid of it. So don't worry about that!
Most likely, your device just isn't going to sleep. I don't think it's unusual.
Settings > Shield Power Control > Apps tab:
Let Nvidia Optimize everything. It seems to end up saving me a ton of battery life. Using apps that don't need much power (like Cheezburger, G+, Udemy, Play Store, etc...), the Nvidia governor seems to handle the clocking very well. Then it cranks it up as needed with games (I bought a few that are listed in the Shield games thing).
You just need to remember to go in and optimize new apps that you install. By default it doesn't put a governor profile on them, so the apps just run as Android tells them to, instead of how Nvidia profiles them.
I've been charging my Shield Tablet about once every two days. That's maybe an hour of gaming a day, and a lot of web browsing, and various forum reading, and whatever other random stuff I do during the day.
The pre-installed app Camera Awesome installs a bunch of corrupt jpg's to internal storage. While they are their it causes the "media server" service to keep running constantly in a loop. Was so bad that while plugged in, my battery went down while actively using the tablet. Since I removed those corrupt jpg's the battery has been fine. So step 1, check for corrupt jpgs.

Check any sub folders in that folder as well.
There are apps you can get which will scan your device for corrupt image files too.
I'm not an android expert, so apologies if I say anything out of turn.
I think the .jpegs appeared to be corrupt as some of them might have been for the 'picture frames' of the camera awesome 'special effects'. Thus they are 'transparent' in the centre of the image.
I had some in the Android/data/com.smugmug.android.cameraawesome/downloads directory.
I read an article, which said if you add an empty .nomedia file to the directory it should stop the media service from reading from it.
Would adding that file not be enough to stop the media service, rather than deleting all the files?

I had similar problem. I deleted all the jpg files, infact deleted the entire folder,Android/data/com.smugmug.android.cameraawesome/downloads directory. However, everytime i opened camera app, the folder generated itself (check in ES file explorer). Better option is to disable the app (you cant delete as its a system app) and use google camera or any other camera of choice. My battery life has increased (screen on and off) i get about 4 hours of screen on time (lot of browsing, drawing, you tube and 40 mins of gaming). Its not as much as others are getting. Also i am not rooted. On a side note Lollipop is coming in couple of days, it should alleviate some battery issues.''
I have a problem with battery life. Was at 100% this morning 11am, now it is 3h20 pm and there is only 58% remaining.
The problem is it was in my bag between this morning and now and it has not been used... WiFi is set to be off while screen is off, and is not available for location when wifi deactivated. Nvidia camera is disabled. I will do a factory reset to see how it goes...
If I go to battery menu : it show only one line : screen, 1%, which of course is impossible.
EDIT : ok, it is unusable with such battery life... Since I bought it yesterday, I decided to do a factory reset and to NOT restore anything from other devices.
I'm currently charging it and will make a report later.

But do you have same problem as me?
I've not had any battery issues and I'm running Lollipop.
I have set my screen brightness to Auto (Screen On uses up a lot of juice).
Using the "Shield Power Mode" I've set the "Processor Mode" to "Optimise".

Finally in Android/data/com.smugmug.android.cameraawesome/downloads I've made sure there is the empty .nomedia file.

Question My battery drain is insane!

Hello everyone, I'm in trouble.
22 Ultra is simply eating battery at indescribable levels. Yesterday we went on a trip from work, I left my home with 100%. During the day I did not touch the phone, a bit of a camera but beyond that really nothing. My battery was about 40% after about 3 hours, with no screen use at all! On the other hand, a friend at work with Xiaomi came out with 100% and after 3 hours was on 85, and he did touch the phone here and there.
I don't know how that makes sense, and it's no longer clear to me what to do to solve the problem. I debloat, deleted and disabled a number of irrelevant apps but still, the battery is being eaten. How can I solve it? Please help me!
Draining battery so fast, 20% per hour while idle is not normal, so you definitely have a problem.
It looks that there are two possibilities here:
- Battery malfunction
- Some active process in the background that is using lots of processor power constantly.
If battery is damaged / not working properly, the only solution is to replace it. Still, this doesn't look like a case of duying battery.
If you have some persistent process running in the background that you can't get rid of by debloating, it can't be stopped by restarting the phone, and its not visible in the battery usage section, i would say that factory reset is the most effective option here, since you stated that you tried to deal with it in a various ways already.
You could also wait a bit until you get chance to update to OneUI 5 / Android 13, which should solve your problem, if it's software related.
Hope that you will find solution soon

Try to wipe your system cache.....it won't do a factory reset but might solve the issue while keeping your phone as it is.
Volume UP button along with the power button until you see Android screen
Scroll down with volume down until you reach wipe system cache and reboot
sometimes, it won't show up while you press the buttons....in that case, connect your phone to your PC/Laptop with any USB C cable and then do it.
Second solution, you can try Samsungs App Booster.....get an apk from the net. It generally helps as well.
