No signal since root - HTC Desire S

Hi Guys,
I rooted my Desire S last night with the help of Alpha Rev, I'd originally only planned to install the standard HTC rom so i could get rid of all the crap Orange stick on the phone BUT it wasn't that easy.
Alpha went through fine and so did the root, once done i ran the image from the HTC website i found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1002506 (first one in the list) and this installed ok but then i suddenly lost mobile signal, the wifi was fine but no mobile network. After 20 mins it appeared but then promptly went again 30 seconds or so later. This happened on and off for 20 mins so i decided to go back to the standard Orange rom and have another look. Again i downloaded it from the above link but this time got the Orange rom, now the same thing was happening on this one. I started to panic at this point! I had a search around and noticed some people thought it could be to do with the radio. So i downloaded the correct radio and tried again, still the same, signal on for 10-30 seconds then goes.
As a last ditch attempt i downloaded this rom - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1122797 installed and now all is fine? I don't understand why it keeps loosing signal on the original rom yet on a cooked rom it works fine!
Thanks for reading, I'm quite new to all this so any help is much appreciated.
Thanks

coz cooked rom is better
also u can try this one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15800407&postcount=151
its shipped+root so u can remove all bloatwarez

Thanks dude, i'll give that one a go tomorrow morning.

(SOLVED) HELP!! I completely lost GPS satellite signal.

Hey wonderful community!
I am having some serious problems with my GPS. Everything was good until I flashed Android Revolution 3.2 from Android Revo 1.6. Luckily I had a backup so I flashed back to that through clockwork and all was well for a while. Then I got curious about LeeDroid so I flashed that and seemed good but the other night, after confirming a GPS lock the first night I flashed it, couldn't get a signal. I haven't flashed anything since my GPS was working but I still thought it had to be software related. So I flashed my backup expecting it to work just like it did before, but I got nothing. I get AGPS but no actual sats. Even if I leave GPS test open for an hour it never even sees even one satelite, let alone using any. This is on the same rom, same kernel, **** the same backup. So I flashed a few roms, and even did a full factory reset and have had no luck. I searched a couple threads looking for solutions but everything I have tried has not helped at all. Just so you know what I have tried that hasn't worked is as follows: the GPS.zip file thread extracted and pasted into system/xx/xx/hw, reinstalling locations, clearing map data, and installing faster fix.
I know this was a lot to read but I try to help anyone as much as I can and would really appreciate some help on this. LETS PAY IT FORWARD PEOPLE LOL.
Thanks in Advance.
EDIT: Ok so still don't know what the culprit was but with a lot of help from Kirk I redid step 5 from the Hack Kit, which flashes the stock radio, and WOOT WOOT! GPS back to it's mean self.
You need to re-flash the radio. You can flash it using HBOOT.
Try stock rooted and faster fix from the market.

Can you explain a little better? like step by step, I am kinda new to HTC and haven't even messed with radios at all. I am still on the radio from the hack kit. Should I just download it and then how do I flash using Hboot?

1. Download this file http://www.megaupload.com/?d=BX5GV1CJ
2. Place the PD98IMG.zip radio file on the root of your SD card.
3. Power the phone off, remove and reinsert the battery.
4. Hold the volume button down and press power on.
5. The phone will boot into Hboot then Bootloader, It should see the PD98IMG.zip and ask if you want to apply the zip.
6. Use the volume up button to select "yes"
7. Once its done flashing, reboot the phone and you should have flashed the radio.
8. Finally, turn on GPS and run google maps and you should see the GPS icon start to flash.

Same issue as laxwillsch...
I am running 3.3 as of 2 hours ago - only issue was GPS. Performance is phenomenal on 3.3. I ran through your instructions. In step 6, mine quickly flashed up the screen that says it couldn't find any files to update, then returned to the HBOOT screen. There was nothing apparently for me to do, so I simply rebooted the device.
Guess what? GPS now works. I am certain the update didn't happen but something did! When I launched Google Maps, I immediately saw the satellite icon. I haven't seen that in awhile... Not waiting on Google Maps, I launched Compass (I like that app) and it locked 7 satellites in a fraction of a second. I returned to Google Maps and it works flawlessly.
My Radio version is 12.39.60.19U_26.06.04.06_M.
My speed test performance floats between 3.8 - 2.1 Mbps down and 1656 - 1200 Mbps up...
Thanks again!

Ok did it and it didnt find a radio to flash. I think this is because it is supposed to be renamed to PD98IMG.zip but I could be wrong. I will try that but I don't know if this will help because I actually already get the flashing GPS indicator it just fails to see any sats. Like absolutely none. Even if I keep GPS test up for an hour. It doesn't do anything. I dont understand this because I don't see anyone with the same problem. I think I am just going to exchange it tomorrow because I have a feeling something happened hardware wise because I didn't even flash anything to make this happen. The GPS worked one day and the next it didnt. And I didnt change anything, no themes, no roms, no nothing.

You need to rename the file as stated in my previous reply. Try that before you give up.
If you decide to exchange the phone, make sure you are within the 30 days when you bought it, and also s-off needs to be s-on and then install the stock ROM that came with the phone. Otherwise they will see you tinkered with the phone and altering your phone like that voids the warranty.
EDIT: Are you outside when you are looking for a GPS signal? The phone needs to be outdoors to grab a GPS signal. From what you said about leaving it on for an hour to look for GPS signal, sounds like you are indoors cause I wouldn't wanna stay outside for an hour in cold weather just to look for a GPS signal.

I tried it the way you posted with no avail. Then I just renamed it PD98IMG.zip and it updated this time but still no change. And yes I have been outside and on my deck, both places where I got perfect GPS signal a couple days ago. I really think it is something weird, because I have done everything I could think of software related with no change. I have probably flashed 5-6 roms and it is the same with all of them. I got excited when you suggested the radio but after it not changing anything I got to thinking that I never flashed a radio, I don't even have ENG-S-OFF so it wouldnt really make sense that it is radio related. I am open to more suggestions but I have tried everything I have learned about android in the last year with no avail. My next step is flashing the stock RUU and seeing if that fixes it and if not just taking it back to radio shack. I am over my 30 days but they said they can replace after 30 if the device is defective and I have a screen issue where if I press lightly on the search button it makes a clicking noise and plurs the corner of the LCD. Plus I am getting AGPS but literally my actual GPS is like totally borked. Not seeing any satelites at all, before even inside I would see like 7-9. Something is seriously wrong and I don't even know where to start.

That would be my next suggestion, to flash the stock untouched ROM. Hopefully that makes it work and then you can go from there. Either way, you need to install the stock ROM before you return it.
Also, did the phone show the update completed successfully or did it give an error?
KIRK I LOVE YOU MAN!
So I was thinking more about reflashing the radio, and I read in some other threads about redoing step 5 in the hack kit, so I took your advise and improvised a little and BAM! I got a lock. I had to install faster fix to get it working good but I am back to seeing satellites in mi casa! I can't thank you enough for taking the time to help me, it's nice to see another fellow XDA'er who cares about the community. I am about to thank every post in this thread and any others I can find!!! I LOVE YOU MAN I CANT TELL YOU HOW MUCH!!!

Ya thanks. I can't promise anything though, I will probably be flashing something new tomorrow! Plus I still am a little confused as to why this happened. The last thing I flashed was LeeDroid 2.2.2 and I coulda swore that the GPS got a lock after I flashed because that is one of the first things I always check because it is something I use everyday, but I could be wrong. Anyway thanks for the help again.

No problem, anytime!
I've experienced the same thing also when flashing different ROMs. I finally followed the same instructions you followed and works every time for me and for a few others.
A new thread just popped up in the Inspire 4G General section with someone that has the same problem you had.
I'm completely lost. I have tried everything I have found on the forums and nothing had restored my GPS. I've flashed fixes, flashed new radios, new roms, formatted everything and started over with a brand new rom install. Can somebody please help me.

Have you tried using Hboot to flash the radio? Follow the instructions on post 5 in this thread. Might work for you.

No signal for 1-2 secs

Hi everyone! So I got G2X last week and the first day it worked great. It shipped with 2.3.3 on the device. Ended up rooting it and flashing a custom 2.3.3 rom, followed by Cyanogen mod nightly 2.3.5. Now, next day was my first day back at work and for some weird reason my signal would drop completely for 1-2 secs followed by device re-acquiring it and everything is fine again... super annoying and results in crappy data . Basically 4G/3G completely turns off, same goes for the radio, then its back to normal, anywhere from 2-4 bars usually. Any ideas?
That happened to me on CM7 aswell. I'm not exactly sure what causes it, but I haven't had any problems on the stock ROM.
I usually just have gps locking issues
We had a new Guy start today and he's gone the same phone on 2.2 though, doesn't seem as if he has same issues.
Are you just running stock rooted rom now?

[Q] HTC sensation "wi-fi" error . Can not turn wi-fi on.

Hello,
As soon as I tap the wi-fi icon, it turns to an "error" state.
I ve seen some threads here, but could not be sure about the resolution. To give idea let me sum it up. My device has been brought from US and I am in europe. İt is alreasy ship s-off.
android version : 2.3.4
software number : android revolution HD 3.6.0. by mike1986
kernel version : 2.6.35.14-Sensation-faux123-v0.1.8+

basilcallly tells to apply a signed ROM . But can you please advise which ROM would solve my wi-fi issue. and how to apply that?
Thanks in advance
I also had similar issue when I flashed the original recovery to remove the rooting and clock work mod...
Now if u have the original recovery installed...flash the OTA updates through it and if you don't have the OTA you need to flash the original ROM
After the flashing ur wifi will work normal
hello,
actually I am so new to the stuf. I havent applied any updates to the device, but I guesss it has been s-off ed and applied a different ROM before it has been sold to my friend in USA. Now, which exact ROM would you suggest me to flash and actually where I can find it and read the how to ?.
Thanks
after stock and root i was on Revolution 3.6.1 and now i am using S3N5EaY v 1.4.0 -> agree .. its very smooth - fast and looks great. but still the most important thing is : battery life.. so before i had to charge 2 times a day on hard-use.
theres no need anymore at the moment ;-)
try out by yaself..

Ello m8,
It appears your in the same boat as me, i have the wifi error too, it doesn't even turn on to be able to see networks, let alone connect to them so it's quite horrible.
What i've done:
Flashed pretty much every rom i possibly could. (old ones, new ones, no effect)
Changed the recovery to 4ext (which works great but didn't help)
Changed kernels (a lot)
Changed Radios and RIL files (a lot)
Flashed an official RUU (no effect at all)
Went back to S-ON as described in the tutorial on the main xda sensation guide, then S-OFF'd again.
I'm now back on P3D v 8 and it's running lovely but alas, still no wifi.
I've changed the back cover (the yellow connectors at the top have something to do with the wifi) Don't mess around with these as you may break something, changing the case had no effect, apparently the wifi still connects without the back cover on the phone.
I am literally at my wits end with this and i got my phone for free from my work and i was only supposed to have had it for a while (4 months) so if i say it's broke, they may take it back and i've lost the phone completely, if that wasn't the case then i would have sent it back after i'd tried everything software wise i could think of.
I'm not saying that you are in the same situation exactly but if you are then it looks bleak and i would say anything next to removing the wifi chip and replacing it would mean the wifi will never work, plus tutorials for replacing the wifi on a sensation are scarce to say the least (torque screwdrivers at the ready)
If i get it working i'll let you know how, please do the same if you get any joy.
Oh i almost forgot, another thread on another site they mention using an app called wefi, i didn't have any luck but you might.
Good luck matey Hope you have more than i did.
Hi,
I am having the same issue.
Have been running android revolution HD 3.6.5. by mike1986 and previous versions of it (2, 3) and no issues with the WiFi, as one day it just started (yesterday to be precise). I did not install anything or played with settings that could mess with the wi-fi. One day ago was working ok and the next not.
Tried the Wefi app but it did not help either.
feeling hopeless...

Looks like this error is more common than it would first have appeared, read my post a few up for what i've tried, i even feel like dropping it if it's something inside so as to knock it back into place, but i haven't yet Lol that's desperation.
I've got an appointment with HTC soon and i'm getting it changed, if anyone gets this sorted then let me know as i'd rather keep my phone.

Hi,
I also tried all you tried and no results.
Changed the case with a friends phone but did not help either.
After a lot of reading through the forums did a logcat to see what the hack the phone is saying about this error and it seems it cannot load the driver.
If it helps smb to go deeper can post it.
Gave a thought or two about knocking it against the wall or throw it from the window but after-all, i think i can live for some time without wifi, my GPRS speed is not bad and maybe soon will be having 3G and during work time can use internet pass-through.
Worst case scenario, will sell it and get EDGE the new quad-core monster HTC will be releasing next year Q1 or early Q2.

Dude I got the same problem and I did the same procedure so far but same results as well.
I am just wondering if you got any better results for this issue.
Thanks
Same problem, bad results...
I had the same problem. Both my Bluetooth and WiFi would get stuck on "turning on" but never did, I flashed so many ROMs and Kernels, Tried RUU's from Europe,Asia, and USA and nothing worked. SO I CALLED HTC...thankfully I was still under warranty (It's a 12 month warranty) and shipped my phone away after flashing the latest official T-Mobile RUU, Un-Rooting, and going back to S-ON. It's been a week...I called and they said THE MOTHERBOARD needed to be replaced, which I think is the "default fix" if they can't solve the issue. So hopefully in a week I'll have my phone back...Best of Luck...don't mean to be a Debby Downer but I tried EVERYTHING. Give em a call, it won't hurt to try.

GPS issues suddenly with OG Transformer.

So I picked up a refurbed Transformer about a month ago. I rooted it a few weeks ago and everything has been okay. A few lockups here and there, but I was running a custom kernal so whatever. Then a few days ago my GPS starts searching all the time. This was a few days after installing the .21 rooted update. I put GPS Status on it, and it worked for a while. It started up again yesterday, so I flashed an old backup, it worked, until I rebooted. To try and keep it short, it seemed that yesterday if I flashed a new ROM or backup, it would work fine, until I rebooted the device. Well, while trying to NVflash, my recovery got borked so now I'm back to pure stock.
I've tried it on stock .19, .21, rooted, unrooted, let it sit for 30 minutes. It will sometimes pick up 10 satellites with decent signal, but will not get a fix. After the first couple of flashes yesterday, it took about 5s to get a fix.
I've tried:
Clear cache/Delvik cache
Flashed backups
Nvflashed back to stock unrooted
GPS fix, GPS Status, GPS test from the market.
It's just odd that with no changes it went from great to bleh. Any help would be great. Sorry about the book.

I had this problem too... I fixed it by modifying the gps.conf file to use some US Navy ntp servers instead of the stock ones... get fix within 20 seconds the first time, and like 1 or 2 seconds rverytime after that... pm me and I'll send it to you... You're rooted right??
^^^The force is strong with this one.^^^ Thanks!

Wifi not working on custom ROMs

Okay, so I flashed Paranoid Android 2.16. Everything went great, flashed fine. But I could not get wifi to work at all. It would turn of and back on randomly, would not connect to any network, etc. So, I flashed the ROM by Team Viper. Again, flashed fine, worked fine, but Wifi would not work, it would do the same thing.
So, then I restored my nandroid backup, and wifi works grand. Is there something I missed? Stock isn't too bad on this phone, but I'm a flash junkie, and I'll miss JB on my GNex. PA works beautifully, except for the damn wifi issue.
So, any suggestions on how to get wifi to work on my custom ROMs? Loving this phone so far, I've missed HTC. The three things that would make it my *perfect* phone is SD card slot, bigger battery, and 720p screen. But the phone is gorgeous and feels amazing physically and performance wise.

Okay, I'm glad that it's not just me. I'm going to try again, sometime tomorrow or later today. I'm hoping that it's something that can be fixed with a little more digging, or if it's something that we need a wifi module for.
Same thing here. Just fixed a soft brick now I got utb ROM working. Flashed trick droid and WiFi is gone.

Okay, there was another post with this issue, something that I missed. But apparently it's because of the last update (ICS 4.0.4 & Sense 4.1).
Flashing ROMs over this update seems to be breaking wifi. Here's the other post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1913757
I'm having a lot of trouble with this as well. I just bought a One S a few days ago and got to work rooting, etc. After trying to install other ROMs, I can't get wifi to connect.
I have a T-Mobile version One S and can only assume it's gone through the latest updates prior to my purchase (got it through craigslist).
I have a decent idea of what I'm doing with these phones most of the time, but it seems like this time around I may need a little hand holding through the potential fixes. Like an idiot, I didn't bother to do a backup before jumping into flashing my first ROM, so I probably shouldn't be surprised that I'm having troubles.
Anyways, any help would be greatly appreciated. Right now I'm just stuck here.
What info do you need and how can I find it?
Extra info:
I did try the 1.84 and 2.35 partition fixes but still couldn't get the issue resolved.
Yeah.. I flashed the international version of trickdroid and my wifi signal was great, then I flashed the TMO version (I have a tmo one s) and it messed up my wifi signal completely, weird.
Have you guys found a way to fix it? Im having the same issues with all the custom roms, I've tried several of them and even different versions of the same rom(I thought it was an issues with that rom version) but the wifi never seems to work on any rom I flash. I'm using a htc vivid with att. If you found a fix could you pm me?
