[KERNEL][SENSE][HTC STOCK] Stock Sense 2.3.3 Kernel - EVO 4G Android Development

This is the stock kernel split out of the 4.24.651.1 STOCK release. Untouched, unmodified, unmolested
THIS KERNEL IS FOR STOCK HTC SENSE 2.3.3 GINGERBREAD ONLY. I am NOT a developer, just someone who wants to give back and knows how to split a BOOT.IMG to get the zImage out of it.
Note: Some custom kernels include 'extras' in their zips that may make going back to stock impossible. Always nandroid if you have an install you don't want to lose. Also, Don't forget to wipe cache/dalvik after flashing.
Download:
Stock kernel (unmodified) can now be found in the Kernel Manager app. Free/Paid versions on the Market. Wireless N version will not appear in the app as it isn't pure stock and thus not supported by anyone but yourself.

Note: You probably won't need these. At least not until we get a source for custom kernels.
These are stock kernels ripped out of the 4.22.651.2 and 4.24.651.1 STOCK releases. There is nothing fancy here. Decided to make this thread to make it easier to find. I did make these zips myself, but I believe there are others out there already.
Needs testing, I don't have an EVO right now. Thus, I'm bored so I made these. Should flash in any recovery.

THESE KERNELS ARE FOR STOCK SENSE 2.3.3 GINGERBREAD ONLY. We still don't have source code from HTC, so nothing has changed. I am NOT a developer, just someone who wants to give back and knows how to split BOOT.IMG to get the zImage out of them.
Don't forget to wipe cache/dalvik after flashing.

beat me to it

Thanks. I saw that earlier. I'll add notice to the original post.

thanks Op. nice to have this to go back while we test new custom kernels.

Thanks man. I actually need this now lol! btw are you the same guy that started github.com?

No problem. And no relation to github.com ... that would be cool, however.
While I'm at it:
Please direct any and all donations / thanks / lulz to TeamWin members. These guys (among others) do the real dev work around these parts.
Going to re-upload, seems that some recoveries are giving errors. I'm going to update the update binary and script, this should fix it. You will have to redownload later on. I've changed the filenames so you can tell.
edit: fixed zips done uploading, links updated. I apologize.

Clicking the links is taking me to a MediaFire error page.
EDIT: Hmmm must've had a cached version, because now the OP looks completely different, and I'm willing to bet the links work. I guess you were still working on updating when I posted. Sorry!

Yes indeed, I did a total rehaul of the OP, and uploaded new files that now flash fine (at least on my EVO).
Installed stock 4.24.651.1 ROM, flashed Lithid-CM's kernel, verified it was installed (had smartass governor and such). Rebooted, Flashed my stock kernel & wiped, rebooted and verified the stock kernel was installed from the Menu | About Phone | Software Information screen.
Should all be well now, sorry for any confusion

I have rooted stock 4.24.651.1, do I need to download the stock kernel? Also will this allow hdmwin to work?

You really had time to put in NO WIRELESS N FOR YOU! c'mon now! lol Nice.

When the last froyo release came out a lot of people were getting the best battery life out of the stock kernel. Immediately after the source was released there appeared a stock kernel with SBC patched into it, and then I believe another stock kernel with SBC and HDMwIn support.
If one of our amazing devs could do that with the latest stock gingerbread kernel (with wireless N support of course), we'd have a fully functional, stable, sort of safe alternative until they have the time to create their masterpiece custom kernels. I believe that would put many a smile on many a face. Just a thought...damn, I wish I knew how to do it.
Thank you for your time.

If someone creates a stock SBC kernel (with or without Wireless N) I'd be happy to add it here with their permission and with credit to them. I'm not a coder by a longshot, just a tinkerer, so I really can't help with that.
On another note, the stock (not Wireless N) kernel can now be found in the Kernel Manager app for easier flashing. I won't add the Wireless N one because I don't want to or have the time to support it. I really don't 'support' any of these kernels because that is HTC's job, but I am happy to help answer questions on them the best that I can. I also don't have access to an "N" access point.
Enjoy, and thanks for the comments.
P.S. and yea I added the "No Wireless N For you!" just as a reassurance that you had the correct zip.

I have no idea on HDMI. If it's part of what HTC offers, then that is what you get. If you have a ROM installed, you already have a kernel installed. A kernel is required to boot the phone, and thus is part of the stock ROM.

ok i switch kernels to Evo 4g Freedom-v0.8.5 Kernel and my phone wasn't able to recognize it was connected to the computer anymore... so I thought to fix this I would go to the latest stock kernel except this didn't work either... what should I do?

[ROM][32a] CyanogenMod Port < 4.1.11.1 Only[update Oct 6]

****This thread is now only for the 4.1.xx series of cyanogen ROMs. For the newer versions, please see the thread by Radix999 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=568032
Please keep in mind that the port files from Radix's thread will likely work fine on these versions. If not, I may use the updated kernels to make 4.1.xx compliant kernel packages. We'll see.

New Process to Port Cyangen ROMs
*************************************************************************************
Use CyanogenMod Updater to download the Dream/32B ROM
Choose either Apply Now or Apply Later as per the onscreen instructions
When the new ROM has been applied, apply the signed-cyan-32a-port_v4.x.x.zip below to port to 32A
Done
--OR --
Download the most recent Cyanogen ROM (either experimental or stable)
Push it to your SD card
Download the newest port-update from below (ie. signed-cyan-32a-port_v4.x.x.zip or rad-4.1.11.1-kernel etc)
Push it to your SD card
Reboot into recovery
Apply Cyanogen ROM
Apply signed-cyan-32a-port_v4.x.x.zip
Reboot and enjoy
This update.zip contains the files that are updated with a ROM is ported from 32B -> 32A (wlan.ko, kernel, AudioPara4.csv, etc)
This should work on ANY cyanogen ROM. The only required updates will be if the kernel is updated (even then this should continue to work).
This update.zip could easily be made to use a more universal kernel (not cyanogen specific) and could be used to port any 32B ROM.
All kernels are courtesy of TigerTael and Cyanogen.

I was thinking about trying this out myself, it's a good thing someone with more knowledge did it before me
Anyway, is Wi-Fi working fine? I tried the latest CyanogenMod port for the 32A (3.6.8.1) and Wi-Fi didn't work, it just stayed at "Obtaining IP Address" and nothing else.

It worked for me. I know one person who tried it reported that they were having issues with obtaining an IP. I do not have the issues though.
I am not see touch input chinese?
Interested to know if wlan actually works.
I've made several ports of dream roms (including cyanogen's) myself using the same instructions, but each time wifi will see AP, can connect.. but never gets an ip and comes up 'Connection unsuccessful' then keeps retrying.
I've tried a couple of your older ports that you posted in threads too bcrook and had the same issues.

Yes, I had that issue with 3.9.6. It seems that it was fixed in 3.9.7...
since all enhancements are lost, does that basically mean its a normal rom but rooted?
With the exception that it has the bleeding edge donut and community additions and the usual cyanogen enhancements. We can't take advantage of the kernel, but we can at least take advantage of the latest apps he's compiled for us.
I'll give it a try and post back here if I have any issues.
UPDATE: bcrook is right - wifi works like a charm otb! Nice work!

Surely better off just building an update.zip package with those files in it - would be pretty easy to do it that way I thought. Then the chinese users could simply apply that update after any rom install and they'd have their CIME.

I added in the HTC keyboard, some wallpapers from the Palm Pre theme, ringtones from cupcake, etc. I also pushed wlan.ko, AudioPara4.csv and busybox.
I have tested this on my Rogers Magic and everything I can think of is working. No compcache, swap, etc because it uses the regular Magic kernel not the customized one used in the Dream ROM.

but it didnt boot so i took the boot.img from signed-cyanm-3.9.7-32a.zip and flashed it in fastboot mode. (fastboot flash boot boot.img)
Now it works fine! me like!
Must say its very fast!
EDIT:
It was buggy as hell so now wiped everything and will try to flash KspecOreo_v39.zip (theme for dream i think)
EDIT AGAIN:
Didnt boot,
but somehow working when I got into fastboot mode and, fastboot boot boot.img (original boot.img from cyanogen 3 9 7 32A)

Overclock Aria

okay after reading a bit more and help from other users finally got this working and maybe itll be help to someone else
PHONE MUST BE ROOTED CHECK OUT THE ROOTING THREAD
AND DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK UNDERSTAND THE RISK OF OC
THE ARIA IS ALREADY PRETTY ZIPPY SO PERSONAL CHOICE
1. grab any rom cm6 or liberated, then go into the kernel thread and download the kernel pack
some people are reporting certain versions are breaking wifi,3g etc
i used oc768-v3.2 legend zip wifi working no issues plus this is sufficient for me
but if it doesnt work play around with diff kernels
2. boot into recovery mode vol down and power
3. flash your rom then flash the kernel pack and reboot
4. download and setcpu app and start OC
im not taking any credit for any of this but i wanna thank for everyone who worked on this
i just simply wanted to write this because i wanted to try this but i got alot of diff info
but after other users made a few key points decided to write this
anyone feel free to add to this and if i made any errors or whatever mods go ahead and change it
Read ,Search ,Read . I had no luck with the 3.5 kernels tho.
What you want is some hand holding it looks like.
I figured this all out for myself by reading the forum.....
but anyway I'll answer it in the foolish hope of no more people asking the same questions
1. download what files....? if your talking about roms i think youll know where to go after reading this post.
2. you can use whatever rom you like, the main two on this forum and as far as I know on the aria full stop are Liberated and Cyanogen Mod 6. Liberated is based on the stock aria rom so its pretty much what your used to with your stock aria (minus the AT&T rubbish plus a few added perks). Cyanogen Mod 6 is based on bare android so it doesn't have all the sense ui, it is also based on froyo which is the version above eclair (which is what is running on your base aria/ liberated rom). Do not ask which rom to use, it is up to personal preference you just have to try both and see which one you like.
3. you flash a kernel the same way you install a rom on your phone except instead of selecting the rom .zip file you select the kernel .zip file. You should first flash a rom and then afterwards flash the kernel. As ycode90 said some kernels don't work so just go through the process again and try another one, the 3.2 825 kernel was working on liberated for me so try that one.
All OC kernals broke wifi or mobile network on my buddies Aria, I left him with the stock kernal from CM6.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
im running dumfuqs oc kernel v3.2 844, on cm6 v6.0.2.1 my wifi works and the wireless tethering works. it runs fast the only thing that doesnt work is my bluetooth

Yup, it had been my experience that these OC kernels and *anything* that utilizes gpu sucks. There isn't a kernel for the aria at this time, and by using these kernels here you are increasing cpu performance at the expense of gpu performance. I don't believe its worth it at all just for a linpack number.
Yep patiently waiting for an ARIA kernel.
Working over clock:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=736019&page=33
, just need to get the latest nightly, 87 so that bluetooth, wifi, and network all works great.
Good Luck
I don't understand how to flash the kernel or rom. I see no options in Recovery. I'm on CM6.0.2.1 trying to use oc844-v3.5-legend-cm-2.6.29-signed. Help?

you install it the same way you installed the CM6 Rom. Put the kernel zip on your SD card and install the zip via Clockwork. Also anytime you flash a new Rom you will have to reflash the overclock kernel.

[10-11-11][ROM] gingerbread-evo-deck [1.3][2.3.7 Stable] #Stablistic

Hey all. Been a while since my last release of s3vo for the evo which was sense based, but I really wanted to start learning android and have a better perspective of it. I decided to dig a bit more into compiling android. Started horsing around with github and learned to start compiling my own builds from aosp wih the help from cmsrc, evervolv, and a few others githubs. Since the release of gingerbread to aosp, i moved away from sense. There are things that i do miss about sense, but the usability of the phone without it is just unmatched imho. Many people use or have used cyanogenmod. IMHO is a great open source project that has some of the best devs out there. I have always been more into the 'vanilla' look opposed to the themed and aftermarket. Recently i have been compiling gingerbread for the evo and mt4g and have had nothing but the best reviews. Basically the reason why i am here. Wondering if there was any interest in a few of my builds. Main reason from moving away from CM6/7 (cyanogenmod), ADW launcher and the extra added bloat and themes. Currently as i look at my phone, my battery stats have me at 31 hours and counting with 15% left. So battery life as you can tell was one of my main concerns. Everything works!!!

Full wipe always recommended when comming from a different rom.
Finally an official thread, hey deck is mms fully working on v1.2b?
Always used your ROMs back when I had a TP & TP2, so I know this will be as good as your past ROMs!

I flashed v1.2b over 1.1 and MMS is working perfect for me, i hope that helps
Works perfectly for me. Running 1.2b with SZ kernel. The only minor issue so far is battery indicator. When charging, the light turns green at 90% (I am aware that is still charging =))

How does this differ from GingerBeast?
Read in Gingerbeasts thread somewhere (running it for three awesome days) and Dilli stated something along the lines that since gtx had put out Inspired AOSP (or working on it?) He did actually do a couple of things differently ala H icons, etc... and hinted that having two identical AOSP ROMS would have been dull and competitive or pointless or something. Since gtx isn't keeping up with his rom anymore (so it read?) This could be ok right? Would like to try the stable version, or is it?
I started flashing a sense rom again last night and almost immediately during setup scrapped it forb my NAN backup. I can get different results from seemingly identical roms.

FWIW, I'm not trying to be negative. I honestly want to know what differences there will be between GingerBeast (which I currently run and love) and PUREGANDROID. if there are some substantive differences I'd like to give it a try.

This is a CM7 base with various bits removed. Gingerbeast is a proper AOSP base with bits of CM7 added in. That's the major difference at least.

You talking about that post that was a chop and hack of Cm7?
I had a second post. With one built from CM source. This one is built from AOSP source with make files and framework files from CM.
I am working toward a more AOSP base. Building my own kernel, using image files from
AOSP, using AOSP programs. He Is just using a modified CM7.
This is an AOSP base actually.
sure just use the search funtion at the top of page and type PureGandroid 1.1
By beta I mean not all of the stuff I want in this version is there. The ROM is completely stable and ready for use. I just didn't remove and add all the things I wanted in this version
I am trying to get there but its very slow for me to do this. My co compiler John Weyrauch hasn't been online lately and we have had little progress the past 2 weeks

what exactly do you think i did?
took a pre-compiled cm7 rom and modified it?. if im just using a modified cm7, what are you doing?
gingerbeast is built and compiled from aosp and cm7. both were cloned, some cm stuff was removed, aosp added. look in your /system/etc-
CHANGELOG-CM.txt
init.d- all cm init scripts
/system/bin-
backuptool.sh- cyanogen script
modelid_cfg.sh- cyanogen script
verify_cache_partition_size.sh- cyanogen script
-your default wallpaper is attached
what im saying is- dont act like your rom is pure aosp and then say mine is just a modified cm7.
like i said in my thread- as i go more and more cm is removed, and a lot already has- IE theme engine, i have the froyo lockscreen back(will make it in next update), etc- plus i added some of my own stuff to framework/ base. my kernel has some important tweaks(to me anyway- not sure why cm hasnt updated jhash to lookup3 in their kernel yet) that help with efficiency/speed that cm, nor any other kernel for the dhd inspire have
im not saying what your doing is a bad thing, its EXACTLY what i did. most users dont give 2 sh!ts what the base is- if they like how aosp looks, its fast and good on battery and bug free thats all that matters. (cyanogen base for the inspire is very good and pretty much bug free, which is exactly why i chose to use it- and i dont have the time for a 100% aosp rom made from scratch especially when that is readily available)
btw- its usually nice to put a credit in the OP for what you used of other peoples that helped you out. just to show appreciation for work done that benefited you.
By modified I meant using a hybrid that has modified files for Wallpapers, icons, etc. I am trying to create a non tweaked kernel with Google Apps included, and only opensource software in it (except for GAPPS).
I meant nothing against you or your rom also would it be ok if I extracted the lockscreen from your rom to use on mine?
My apps are aosp, icons aosp, wallpapers and sounds are from nexus s- which is technically aosp.
Everything is opensource
Yes you can use the lockscreen, but like I said it wont be included until next update, so you'll have to wait. It should be soon though
thank you. Would you be interested in making a 100% pure rom? I can compile most of it on my Mac Pro. I just need some help debugging some of the errors while compiling?
I've been here for a week or two... Just long enough to know how funny this is...

[Q] CleanROM ULE Question

I have tried to use CleanKernel 1.2 & Lean Kernel .10 on this ROM. After installing both kernels I seem to get a huge "non responsive" delay after the screen shuts off and the lock screen appears. Is this because the base has been updated to VZW G7 OTA and Kernels are for an older base? Or is there a fix that I am missing? I have ran both kernels with no problems on older based ROMS.

Rule of thumb: Never flash a Rom made for one base on a different base. You have to wait until dev makes one for the new base. Many things could go wrong. Consider you're lucky.

Actually, most of the times, you can flash a kernel that's based off of a different source base on a different base ROM as long as they are the same Android version (same framework). VRALG7 did not change much other than some of the apps and on the kernel side, I don't believe anything has changed. That should go true for radio too. For the OP, did you come from wipe everything and flash clean? Also, I am not sure what kind of modification the ULE went through but it may be lacking some libs or ramdisk since the rom is so damn light. Go and pull the boot.img from original ULE and see if the original kernel causes the same issue.
I installed the KT747 kernel. It runs GREAT with this ROM! No lag, super smooth & fast. Thx for the replies! KTweaker app is Awesome! The unresponsive / frozen lock screen is gone! CleanROM ULE + KT747 = Winner!

I agree! Scott updated Clean ROM yesterday to 2.5 which is based off of the new G7 baseband. As Scrosler states in the OP, a new clean kernel is not available yet, so when you flash the new 2.5 you will be on stock. It's worth updating though! I'm sure an updated/upgraded kernel and mods will be out soon enough.
I had that same issue

SO what I did, made surei have no cpu apps runnung to be set on boot ( major problem when using titanium as a restore agent )
Then I flashed scotts clean kernel ( whatever the lastest edition is ).
Then right then and there wiped cache, and dalvik and then fixed permission.
THEN HERE IS WHERE ITS VERY IMP. I LET THE PHONE SIT FOR 10 MINS BEFORE TOUCHING IT AGAIN.
Now i am running smooth .
This is on .lk 0.9 which is essentially the same as lk .10
