[Q] Something missing in Clemsyn's ROM? - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, first time posting something on xda.
Anyway, I just got my transformer last week and I started trying out a few custom rom's.
I started using Prime rom but I got really bad sod's, so I wanted to try other custom rom's as Revolver or Clemsyn's ROM. However, I'm seeing some problems.
I'm korean and being able to read korean on gmail, gchat, or any other application is pretty important. When i had the stock rom or Prime rom, I was able to see them fine. When i install Clemsyn's ROM or Revolver (which is based on Clemsyn's ROM), i get small boxes where korean letters should appear.
I read that clemsyn removed chinese apks from the rom.. I wonder if that has to do with not being able to read korean? if it is.. is there any way to put'em back in?
I tried Revolver yesterday and it was pretty fast and I liked it a lot, but since I wasn't able to read korean, I went back to Prime 1.5, but just installed clemsyn's kernel. Although, with this set up, I'm able to overclock it and hasn't gotten any sod's....
but still wondering, what is missing?

I'm considering using Clemsyn's ROM and am also a bit concerned about the Chinese apks being removed. If he just removed stuff like alipay and taobao, awesome. But if some asian fonts (or keyboards) have been removed, I would also like to know. I often use Chinese, but have many friends who are Japanese and Korean, so having those fonts is also important.

Whew, thought I was the only one that was concerned about this. I installed Google's Korean Keyboard on Clemsyn's Rom, and keys on the keyboard app was just blank. I am guessing the dev removed the font as well..

Someone else had trouble with Chinese fonts. It may help you find what you need to fix the Korean fonts.
EDIT: It looks like the font files are basic true type font (TTF) files. If you find the missing font files and install them it may fix your problem.

I'm comparing fonts in Clemsyn's Rom and Prime... and I don't really see the difference. Clemsyn's Rom actually have more fonts than Prime Rom.
Maybe I should just go back to the stock.

I'm having the same issue with the latest Revolver 2.0. And the /system/font listing looks about the same as it did with Prime. Is the korean font included in the standard font files? Or maybe I'm looking at the wrong folder.

Ok, here's a quick update. I copied the /system/fonts folder from Prime 1.7 Beta, and it seems to display korean fonts fine. Hope this helps.

Stock Rom Live Wallpaper

Excuse me for asking. I recently started to make my own modified rom. I was wondering if it would be possible to have LWP added to a stock rom? The software base is 2.1-update1. I was trying to avoid using a lot of other roms because I don't like certain things on each. Any help? Sorry if i posted in wrong forum.
Just for reference.
After a couple more hours of google I found this:
forum.androidcentral.com/htc-hero-roms-hacks/9679-mods-add-ons.html
The 2 Zip Files are what I flashed. And they work great, but are a little slugish.

yes, it can be done. dangerrom has lwp on a stock rom. he has the live wallpapers set out as a seperate download as lwp.zip.
i am not 100 percent sure but i think that it should work on a stock sprint rom as well...
if i installed the LWP.apk on my rooted htc hero from csouth running the stock 2.1 rom, would it work?

MIUI for Milestone 2

Hey there.
Since I just saw the available Argen2stone ROM I wanted to ask: Is it possible now to pack custom roms on the milestone 2? Last thing I read few montht or weeks ago was, that there is an issue about the bootloader or something.
Since it is possible to use Argen2stone, is it now possible to get MIUI running on the Milestone 2?
Please read the forum guidelines first!
A special Thread is not needed for this question, but let me help you in a few words:
Yes, it's possible. It was also possible before. But that aren't really Custom ROM's. What Argen2Stone ROM does is replacing the system files on out Milestone 2.
The developer changes the original Motorola ROM: Nothing more. A "true" Custom ROM is Cyanogen, which uses a special kernel. Caused by the locked bootloader it's not possible to change replace these things, so a true Custom ROM won't work.
About MIUI:
No, the developer of the ROM has to to a fully rebuild based on the MS2 ROM. Otherwise it won't work.
Same for FissionROM (we're waiting for it)... But I think the dev. of FissionROM wanna use his Droid2/Global Builds and get it running on the MS2. Also a way, but more complicated I think...
Everything is possible, you just need developer willing to do this. You'd better pray for someone to port CM7 to MM2

I don't think a special kernel is must for custom ROM, as all that we use on the phone are delvik apps running in the virtual machine. So the ROM can be customized very dramatically without touching the VM and kernel underneath.
And btw, Milestone 2 has not been sold a lot in China, partially due to Moto's bad fame of late system update. MIUI is a Chinese group, so I'm afraid they won't start working MS2 in a short time
I *MIGHT* look at it when I get cm6 running. I really dislike MIUI though so you'd really have to convince me to making it. I won't even start as of now just yet, since CM has a waaay higher priority to me right now.
excellent....

Hrm, well, the fact that there's a Chinese group out there working on custom ROMs is a relief to me. However, considering ROMs for Android is like stuff I've never seen before, I'm having trouble understanding a damn thing. I just got a MS2 and I live in China. It's awesome, but the English interface can't type in Chinese, I can only receive it. Plus the whole MotoBlur thing doesn't work with a crap. I was hoping there might be some custom ROMs out there that support Chinese. So far, it looks like there could be a chance, so that's for the good news cyaniris. But now I have a LOT to learn about androids and ROMs, as I haven't a darn clue what any of this lingo means (MIUI, bootstrap or bootloader, kernels, fisionROM, CM, rsdlite, nandroid, and tons of other terms ive seen thrown around the forums). Anyway, I'll still do some reading, but you've made me happy knowing if a nice customROM that has an English interface that can be used in China with the usual Western Apps but Chinese compatible doesn't exist, one probably will with enough demand. Thanks!

RSD Lite is a program you run on your computer by Motorola. It flashes official motorola releases without having the need of a working phone, so it has two purposes: Updating to a new motorola-release and restoring when the phone is screwed.
defy is a phone by motorola, which earns it's name because it defies water and dust
bootstrap is not something that's easy to explain, to keep it simple it allows you to boot into a custom recovery that allows you to flash non-motorola roms, like the project I'm working on. It also allows you to make nandroid backups
nandroid backups are direct dumps of system partitions packed into an .img, kinda comparable to ripping a dvd to a .iso file. The most important system partitions are:
/system <-- stores, well, the system. All apps and drivers and such. The partition is uneditable by default, but by gaining root acces (rooting) you are able to remount the system as read-write instead of read-only and are thus able to edit the system files. You could compare it to program files and the WINDOWS on one partition.
/data <-- stores your data, google login infos and such. It's always accesable. Comparable to my documents.
/cache <-- not really sure what it does
/recovery <-- this is the recovery mode on the phone. It is locked and unreplacable. It can be used to flash official signed motorola images but that's all. That's why we need the bootstrap app to launch our own recovery, the one inside /recovery is unmodify-able.
/boot <-- You've probably heard of this. The locked bootloader means that /boot is unaccesable for us. /boot contains very core stuff and for some people it's better that it's locked down.
Hope that clarifies stuff a little bit

CyanogenMod 6 huh? OK, another term I gotta do some research on, haha. Make it support Chinese please!! I love to play with customROMs but they're all worthless unless I can input and read Chinese on it. But no pressure mate, I'm sure you got a stack of things to do when it comes to developing, I only wish I could do it myself. But if you do have time and resources, I'll do what I can to help.

I can now confirm that Miui IS an project we'll work on. It has priority 3. 1 is just something custom, 2 is CM7. Followers are Miui and Sense HD. A possible fifth candidate is Acer's Breeze UI. Honeycomb is also a project we'll work on, but not untill google releases their sources.

Meh just looks like IOS what else is there?
Eh its somethin different I'm gettin bored with stock I've got about every laucher made to switch it up and miui has some pretty kool features I really like status bar and widget feature. I wish someone would come out with cm7 for this bad boy. I wish I had a lil more time and knowledge. Isant miui mostly framework changes and launcher changes or is it more than that? What if we took the framework and launcher from this and put it into one of dexters newer builds?
Got the phone working but the browsers crash too much it looks like it would be alright if the bugs got fixed I will try working on again later.

Has some pretty cool default apps, cool lockscreen, custom transitions through anything, lots of custom themes you can just put on, other tweaks and is supposed to be really fast from what I can understand. It's also a different experience. The launcher and IOS icons is the least attractive thing to me.

Stock mms.apk, mod to split long messages?

I am totally stumped here. I have spent the last 4 hours trying to modify stock Mms.apk to ONLY allow 160+ char split messages (but remain otherwise stock). There are other apk's available that fix the split, but they all combine other visual/theme mods... and I like the stock app just the way it is (other than the lack of split).
I don't know what I'm doing, obviously. Mostly I've tried modifying the mms_config.xml file, and the setting I have says it should be working... but it's not. :-( Any tips?
Just for test, I've set:
enableMultipartSMS true
maxMessageTextSize -1
smsToMmsTextThreshold 4
maxMessageSize 307200
(these appear to be the same settings used in the MIUI mms app that work properly there, but not for me!) :-(
Now I am able to send a message over 160char, and it DOES split it into multiple messages, however each message is still gibberish. Aggh... this is driving me crazy.
http://www.theslacker.org/~s3v3n/ns/ns4g/Mms.apk
This gives you the OPTION for visual themes, you can disable/enable the black background; gives a few other options.. but this is pretty much a stock APK to fix the splitting issue
I would try that out, but your post says Deodexed ROM is required, and I'm running Odexed.
Plus I still want to get to the bottom of how to modify the stock mms.apk. :-/
No ideas? Still stumped here.

[Q] ROM availability for Sprint S5, deodexed customization

This is a bit of a merge-post from two other forum posts I made (here and here) before I realized that there was a forum specifically for the G900P Galaxy S5.
To sum things up, I'm just kind of curious as to why it seems like there is next to zero custom ROMs that explicitly support the Sprint G900P version of the S5. The only one that I have found (which I am currently using) is the R.D.D.T ROM, as well as the other two similar builds of the same thing. This brings up my main question.
From what I've gathered, deodexed ROMs were originally used to be able to edit things such as status bar colors (clock, notification icons, etc) and even the icons themselves. They boot 'slower' but after the initial boot it is not that recognizable as newer hardware more than compensates for this issue.
So I have flashed a deodexed ROM onto my phone (R.D.D.T.). Now, this ROM also has an odexed version as well. I assumed that having the deodexed version would allow me to edit icons, colors, etc. However, I'm not quite sure how I can do it.
I have seen and read about people installing custom, deodexed ROMs onto their phones, and many of them (Alliance, X-Note) will come with either an app pre-installed on the ROM, or a ROM-specific menu in Settings. This menu lets them customize things in the way I would like to be able to. The problem is that, at this time, the G900P (Sprint) version of the Galaxy S5 is not supported by either of those ROMs, or many other popular ROMs for that matter. R.D.D.T. (and R.O.D.T as well as the Mystery Build) was one of the only ROMs I could find that explicitly supports the G900P. I like the concept of this ROM, as it seems like a good, no BS bloat-less ROM that is otherwise very close to stock Android. But, I do not believe it came with any ROM-specific way of editing colors, themes, icons, etc. So my question is a few parts I guess:
-Is there still a way (downloadable app, editing files, etc) for me to be able to edit colors on the S5 with this ROM?
-In a situation like this, what is the benefit of having a deodexed ROM installed?
-Are there other ROMs similar to R.D.D.T. that currently support the G900P S5 which additionally offer customization?
-What is it with the Galaxy S5 that is causing so many ROMs to not officially support it?
Sorry for the long post, but my primary aim here is to learn everything that I can about this.

I just switched to this per your recommendation. It had quite a bit more included than the ultra-streamlined R.D.D.T, but definitely a lot of customization there! Though I sort of wish it had an option to link certain aspect's colors together, like Alliance or other ROMs allow. Instead you have to go through and copy/paste a color for each aspect. Nit-picking though
Anyway, I do appreciate the suggestion, but I'm still looking for an answer to my question regarding the needs/desires for a deodexed ROM. I'd have to imagine that M.O.A.R. is deodexed because of the color changing capabilities it has, yet R.D.D.T. is also deodexed, but doesn't support these kinds of changes. As I stated in my OP, I was under the impression that customization was the primary reason for a deodexed ROM.
Deodexed just means you can rip/push/edit whatever you want inside an apk (images, parameters) and not have to rebuild the odex file for the apk. You can do the same things on odexed, its just a *****. Deodexed is just far far far easier to edit.
Also, as for MOAR and RDDT: just imagine that MOAR has a built in gravitybox. That's literally all it is.

I see. Is that something you can do after the ROM is flashed? As in, could I flash R.D.D.T. and then edit an APK and reboot to get that effect? Or is it done upon building the ROM itself?
