Hey guys, with all the flexibility that Android OS is supposed to have, one restriction that is really aggravating me is the wallpaper size contstraint...
Is there any way to get rid of the wallpaper size restriction? My goal basically is to able to make a wallpaper as wide as the amount of screens I have so that when I go to a different screen it looks like a different wallpaper. To see what i mean, take a wallpaper and use 2 home screens only. When you switch between the two, it loads a half of the wallpaper, so if you made one picture with 2 480x800 pictures, it would look like two seperate wallpapers. What I would like to do is use 3 home screens, and a wallpaper created by using 3 480x800 pictures (1440x800), but whenever I try to set a wallpaper it forces me to crop it to a 960x800 area. Can anyone chime in on if this is at all possible?
Thanks!
I like the idea and would like to know aswell..
I think wallpaper wizardrii works.

OK. It had been a really long time since I used multi live wallpaper.
My goal was to be able to have, on my 3 screens, individual wallpapers that i compiled randomly, and use a wallpaper changer to always have a different wallpaper on each screen. Multilive does that now! Just set it for random, and eveyr hour, all 3 of my screens update with a different wallpaper. All I did was create 480x800 versions of all the wallpapers i was going to randomly combine into large wide wallpapers, throw them all into a folder, and tell multilive wallpaper to pick from there. It's pretty damn sweet. Also, if a wallpaper that I don't want to see at that time comes around double tapping the screen changes them all up again. It's great.

So, I'm not very happy with the wallpaper options in this phone. I understand that, it's more of HTC Sense setting, but it doesn't let me choose home or lock screen. Plus, when I choose a picture from my gallery to use as a wallpaper, the weird crop square shows up and doesn't let me use the whole picture. What's up with that? Am I missing something? What do other people think?
The wall paper is ok but, I went to the market and downloaded city at night wallpaper and its a lot better for my tastes.

You should use 960x800 sized wallpapers. You can't select the whole picture because your iPhone wallpapers or whatever are the wrong aspect. There are some good downloadable wallpapers in the HTC Hub and there are a million wallpaper apps in the market.
Your wallpaper is scrolling as you swipe left and right to different screens, that's why it's square. I just use 1920X1080 wallpapers and they look fine.
Hi guys
I'm a total 'droid n00b so please be gentle with me.
I know I have seen Android devices which kinda "spread" an oversized wallpaper across all the home screens so that scrolling through the home screens also scrolls across the wallpaper. I just tried to set an oversized wallpaper and it made me crop it to the screen res
Is this a feature which is only available on some phones, or is there a tweak you have to load first... or am I totally blowing it out of my arse and the whole thing is a figment of my imagination?

get rid of Sense by replacing it with ADW Launcher. It will allow you to crop a wallpaper correctly for your home screen and it runs WAY faster with a ton more features. I would also recommend getting the paid version of the app. You can get it from Market.
also.. after you get ADW and are running it... go into Accounts & Sync in your settings and disable all of the Sense stuff.
edit: thought i should also add this recommendation. if you like the sense widgets and hate to part with them. or the weather clock...etc. you can get an app from market called Beautiful Widgets. it runs way faster than sense and does the same stuff... again with more options.
Errr.... that's all very nice but how does it relate to my question?
It is sense that is causing the wallpaper to display as it is, change sense back to the android stock option by removing sense will then enable the wallpaper you wanted.

In response to your original question, most Android devices and versions do spread the wallpaper across all the home screens, including older versions of Sense. Sense 3.0 however uses vertical wallpapers that do not scroll, it is a new feature in this version. I imagine they did it because of the 3D rotation of the home screens and it would make stretched wallpapers look weird when swiping, but who knows.
It would be pretty complex to have each screen with its own section of the wallpaper seperate, spin, slow and expand, and finally rest at the ending homescreen.

Thanks Cyberstorm98 - I shall lobby HTC and see if they'll make it an option when anims are off.
I'm curious to find out how you all apply your wallpaper.
while the 1920x1408 wallpaper seems perfect, when applying it through gallery, a good portion of the wallpaper is cut off, and i find the quality isn't great/ideal.
I suppose i could just long-press in the browser on a wallpaper i want, and choose "set as wallpaper", but there are other options too.
So how do you all apply your wallpaper? What works best?
[Note: There was no need for the fourth option in the poll-- sorry. This was my first time seeing/creating a poll.]
Multipicture live wallpaper is another good one to get full picture, or 7.

I use QuickPic as an habit because the gallery in the Galaxy tab dosen't like anything that isn't the exact resolution of the display. Plus it's a great gallery app anyway.
I have been using zedge to get my wallpapers for some time, every now and then I find a really nice wallpaper and when I install it it gets zoomed in as if it's the resolution is to big and the wallpaper gets cut off. Is there any way to make the wallpaper fit entirely on the screen? I have tried to resize the wallpaper with no luck, I am also using nova launcher even though that probably doesn't make a difference.

Supposedly, Wallpapyrus will keep the resolution of your images intact.
Install the app called 'Wallpaper Setter' to solve the issue.
I tried both, and they do keep the resolution intact without croping for the home screen wallpaper but not the lock screen.

This (Wallpapyrus) worked for me on my freshly-upgraded ICS Galaxy S2 LTE. Thanks, chaps!
So I've not had a Samsung device since the S5, is it normal that I can't have a live wallpaper from an app (Let's say liveloop) on the lockscreen and a static wallpaper as the homescreen, as far as I've tried when I set a live wallpaper and then set a static one for the home screen the lock screen wallpaper changes to the default one
Any way to get past this?
Well, they are not called live wallpapers anymore. Just called video wallpapers. I use one of the ones that come with the phone and have a static picture on my home screen. Works just fine. I have tried other video wallpapers, but could not find one I liked any better then the one it came with. You can use the theming to get wallpapers, but it will usually change a lot of other things you may not want changed. I did use theming to be able to grab a wallpaper I wanted. Revert to default and then change to the wallpaper I wanted. Good luck.

My only problem is I don't want to use a video wallpaper, if I want to use a live wallpaper from an app like Walloop I can't have it just on my lockscreen, it has to be both
Not familiar with that app, but I am an old fart that really does not do too much messing with my setup any more. Sorry. Good luck.
Yes the phone supports Live wallpapers on the lockscreen. In wallpapers and style click on my wallpapers then on the 3 dots.
How to
Install the live wallpaper app, then go to my wallpapers the three dot menu and select live wallpapers and will open where you can select the wallpapers you have installed, you can apply as lock screen and homescreen or homescreen only.
