[Q] 7401 to 7661? - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I attempted to update my HTC Trophy(unlocked) to Mango beta. i used the guide from pocketnow.
1. Download the tool found at the source link, version 0.2 of the tool with backup ability, right between "Update" and "Notes" (not hot-linking the file)
2. Install Windows Phone Support Tools, 32bit or 64bit flavor according to your OS
3. Unpack the tool to C:
4. Run the Tool downloaded in step 1 using Administrator rights and let if finish.
5. Once finished it will start Zune
6. Check for updates and apply Windows Phone 7 build 7401 update found
7. Once finished, check for updates again and apply Windows Phone 7 Mango build 7661 update found.
8. After the Update the Zune software itself will try an update and, while it will say it is up to date, it won't find your phone. You need to manually update Zune to Beta Mango client (build 4.8.2098.0).
Everything was fine, until the very last step, when i was updating from 7401 to 7661, the downloading step (step 2 i think) got interruppted due to internet problem. Now im stuck at 7401, my Zune is saying that my phone is already up to date(7401), and its not picking up 7661 update anymore. I also tried checking for update after updating the Zune software to the mango one, but still same results. I dis and reconnect my phone, restarted Zune, still same. So what do i do now? If i have no options, i would have to revert bak to NoDo and repeat the process.

Just revert back, no harm done.

[Q] Deployment issue

Hi i have been trying to deploy a xap that is 80mb size lately, but no matter what i do i kept getting the
"Error 0x8007274c" - A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.
If i deploy smaller sized xap (10mb 20mb) it works perfectly, but cant seem to deploy larger ones. And i have tried the official deployment tool, Tom XAP deployer, and XAP deploy X. All the same result
BTW, i have updated to NoDo, im guessing it has something to do with that....
Thank you all for helping!!~
Is there no solution?

In my trophy i had the same problem when i was in 7390 (nodo) verison of the rom...
After the 7392 update the problem is gone and i can deploy big xap files
colossus if you do further testing I'm sure you'll find out that this depends on the xap itself. 7392 was just security updates as far as I understand so there's no reason that this update should have magically fixed this problem. Test other xaps and report back if you can.

Hi m8..
I did make those test so far no big xap that i cant install....
I had the same problem with 7390 rom and i was under the impression that the problem was there after the 7392 update.
And i had a long discussion about this in another forum ..
After that i try to install 2-3 big games +100mb and the installed just fine ...
If there is a specific xap you want me to try please let me know ...(i send you a PM)
I have a XAP that installed fine before Nodo. It won't install now. It failed on 7.0.7390.0 and it also fail now that I have 7.0.7392.0. When the files are being installed they are written in this location:
\Application Data\Phone Tools\10.0\Install\{AppID Guid}\
The XAP I try to install is way over 100 mb. But when I look in that folder I see that after the failed install the XAP is always between 66 and 68 MB. I use my own WP7 Root Tools to look there. And in the new version I'm working on I can also copy and delete files and folders (this version will probably ready for release in a couple of days). So when I delete the complete folder with defective install and try it again it always has the same result. I tried all the appdeployers I know (MS App deployer, Tom's installer, WPDM, XAPDeployX), no difference. I also tried to copy the XAP to the phone first and place it in the Install folder. That works and the complete file is present. But when I try to deploy, it just gets overwritten and it fails again.
I also tried to disable Firewall and Antivirus temporary, but it didn't make any difference.
I'm on Omnia7 with JK1 firmware. OS 7.0.7392.0. I have the RTM version of Windows Phone Developer Tools. Would it possibly help if I upgrade to a newer version of the Windows Phone Developer Tools? With the release of NoDo there was also a new release of the Windows Phone Developer Tools. And there is a new beta version for Mango now. I think I'm going to try to install the Nodo version of the Windows Phone Developer Tools and see if that helps.

Windows Phone Device Manager for WP7
first move some content out of the xap
deploy
now use wp7devicemanager to copy the "moved content" into installation folder.
does currently not work with mango beta tools
SOLVED!!
Finally got it fixed. You need to install the January update of the Windows Phone Developer Tools (that's version 1.0.1, which is meant to go with the NoDo update on the phone).
You can download the updates HERE.
After I installed the updates I could immediately deploy large XAP's.

M8 this is not the dev tools ..ist an update/patch and the file name is VS10-KB2486994-x86.exe.
Try to install this once again., and then reboot your pc before you try

There's actually 2 updates on that page:
1. VS10-KB2486994-x86.exe = update for the VS-plugin. The page actually states that this is a fix for deploying packages over 64 MB.
2. Window Phone Developer Tools v1.0.1 (January update including Deployment Tool, Connection Tool, Emulator, etc).
I tried to install only the small Visual Studio fix first. But it didn't fix the deployment apps. I guess this only fixes the 64 MB package limit for when you deploy from within Visual Studio. After I installed the big update for Windows Phone Developer Tools v1.0.1 I could deploy big XAP's. In my case no reboot was necessary (I did close all deployments apps and Zune etc before I started the setup). Windows Phone Developer Tools 1.0 RTW must be installed first if you had not already.
Hope this helps!

Ok. So you're saying you have the Mango beta tools installed and you're experiencing the deployment problem? That's weird. That probably means that the Nodo fixes in version 1.0.1 are in a branch. Or the mango tools are branched from the 1.0.0 version. Either way. The fix is not in the same branch as the Mango tools. That means that if you have Nodo on your phone, you should use the 1.0.0 version (RTW) of the tools and then apply the 1.0.1 fixes. But you shouldn't use the mango tools, or else you will still suffer from the deployment issue.
Ciao,
Heathcliff74
yes exactly
currently there is no public deployer working on mango beta tools exept the one that comes with the tools, but i cant deploy large xap's with it.
Ok, I give up.
I tried everything. It will not work.

Help with sync configuration

i just buy wp7 yesterday, i was no idea how to sync it to the pc.
i heard that you need zune to sync with it like itunes. i'm installed it once, but it cannot update and say 'connection error, restart software'.
so i reinstalled again, but stuck at 100%.
a lot in the internet say that their os was XP of vista, and no windows 7 (and i'm using w7).
please, share with me how things are working here. thanks
i was able to sync and I have windows 7.
-make sure ZUNE is up to date
-you may get better results using the USB cable that came with the phone
-if you have more than one, try them all.
-you may get better results using the USB ports on the back of the PC

Have ya configured your phone already, a Live account and all that jazz ?
I have Windows 7, so that is not your problem... make sure your Zune is workling properly and if needed download a new version and reinstall it. Syncing Zune and WP7 is a pretty straight forward thing.
i'm already did that, it's just now i am trying to "reinstall" zune because it cannot update my windows phone 7 (version with no copy-cut-paste)
my zune installer is "downloading update at 100%" and stuck, no solution on the internet. some say to go back to xp (LOL)
for sync-ing my wp is no problem because it is straight forward

Like I said, I have Windows 7 x64 and the system runs great and no problems with Zune.
In you Windows try and create a new use with admin rights and try and install Zune in that user area, or use System Restore to roll back to a few days back... telling you to format and reinstall Windows 7 should be a last resort.
What "update" are you trying to install?

update: i just got the solution form help forum, apparently he say "just hit spacebar", and it work, feel like slap the software to wake up.
but now the software doesn't installed properly, no shortcut in the desktop

How long have you had that current installation of you Windows 7 ?
It might be a problem with your OS and not Zune... like I said, create a new user with admin right and install from there, Restore System to an older date.
If all fails, might be time for a fresh Windows 7 install.

Accessories, System Tools and you should have System Restore there. Try and restore to an older point in time, see if that helps.
When all else fails... format c:
system restore didn't have any effect at all. format is the only option left, i give up on this software.
i just don't want to waste anymore time, i'll use wp7 connector for mac instead.
thank you very much for everyone here for spending time to answer me. operator may closed this post in peace.

Can't revert back to Nodo on VZW HTC Trophy

I have the Verizon HTC Trophy with mango beta 2, and I'm trying to go back to NoDo. When I click on my backup file, I get the error, "Error: The installed version of the tool (4.7.1404) needs to be updated to match the Zune version (4.8.2098). Please install the tool version 4.8.2098." When I go to the Zune settings, phone update, there is no restore option. Any suggestions?
I have had the same problem and I have figured out a way to get around it.
1. You have to uninstall the zune client.
2. Download the zune client 4.7.1404 I cant provide links cause it wont let me so you have to find it. google zune client 4.7.1404 download.
3. Make sure that your restore folder is in the c: Drive it will be named premangostate2
4. Install the 4.7.1404 without having the internet connected. Having the internet connected will update to a higher version.
5. Make a copy of the the contents inside this folder. (it will have a series of values) copy this folder to the the windows phone update folder. this folder will be in appdata/local/windows folder. If done correctly you will have 2 copies.
6. run the restore.bat file that should have came with the mango beta 2 update.
7. when asked to overwrite select yes.
8 This should restore your HTC Trophy back to the NODO so you can update your phone to Mango from your carrier.
I have tried everything around and this is the one that worked for me. I know you asked a bit ago but if anyone else needs this then they will find it by search.
If there is no windows phone update folder you may have to connect your phone or restart your computer.

Hi MrKickstand,
Read through this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1215501, you will find that this issue and many others have been addressed. It also has guides that will allow you to perform the upgrade step by step and with minimum issue.

What phone do you have? The focus is known to have timeout issues. You can try removing all extra files from your phone (music, videos, apps, etc...) or you can try to use the edited .bat file to move to 7720. You will need to download the beta Zune and install it, it won't find the beta on its own.

I suppose you can do a system restore and get the old version of Zune Software back.
Go to C:\Program Files\Zune\ & delete updateWP.exe. Then, run the UpdateWP setup from the Mango package again. updateWP.exe must match the Zune client. they should both be the same build. 4.8.2134 (4.8 beta/Not 4.8.2345, this is Official Zune 4.8 & there's no matching updateWP.exe for it).

[Q] Windows Phone 7 on Windows 8

Hi,
I've recently upgraded my laptop to Windows 8. On Windows 7 I had Zune, Dev Tools, Xap Deployer, etc to connect to my phone (Omnia 7.5 dev/interop unlocked). How can I do the same on Windows 8. Couldn't find Zune for Windows 8.
Tried searching the forums but searching for "windows 8" just gives results for Windows 7.8.
Any help is much appreciated.

Just go to the xbox music site and download zune again. And go to the apphub site and download the windows phone tools again.
Everything you had on windows 7 will run on windows 8. I just slapped Win 8 on my laptop and just finished installing the dev kit and zune. Took me about an hour to do.

I read somewhere that Zune Software is not compatible with W8. I tried it also on W8 CP without any luck. I guess I should try on the released version now. Downloading...
Btw, what version of dev tools did you use? Can you post a link?

Naw, the Zune software is fully compatible with W8. I just finished importing my music library from my phone to my laptop.
Anyway, I downloaded this ...
https://www.dreamspark.com/Student/Windows-Phone-7-App-Development.aspx
Not really sure what version it is. 7.1 or 7.2 or something?
Zune works perfectly on Windows 8.
For the developer tools I think you should use these:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35471#overview
"The Windows Phone Software Development Kit (SDK) 8.0 provides you with the tools that you need to develop apps and games for Windows Phone 8 and Windows Phone 7.5."
Thanks guys. Zune worked. Installing latest dev tools from jjuki's link.
