Is there an FM radio that works on a rooted charge?
I recent installed CM7 on another phone of mine, and the FM radio app is awesome! Would be great for listening to the TV at the gym.

The Hummingbird SoC does include FM radio capability AFAIK. However, the pins for it may not be in use on the board - much like the OG Droid had an SoC with FM capability but it just wasn't connected at the hardware level.
I don't know if anyone knows or has looked into if the Charge has the hardware capability for it at this point. If it is in fact there I see no reason why it couldn't be supported, there are Galaxy S variants that do support FM radio on sale already (in Europe).
I use this app for radio stations. While not FM radio, it uses the web streaming from radio stations, and does a pretty good of it.

+1 Gets all of my local stations, but then again all of my local stations have an internet stream available.
I want something that will pick up an FM signal from the TVs at the gym, not internet radio.

I think you're out of luck. Like Danrarbc mentioned, the hardware is not set up to support it.
Neither was my old g2 and mytouch4g, until I installed cm7 on them.

hi, for those who got the ATT Captivative, do you konw if the phoen comes with FM radio? I searched online and it looks like the phone may not come with it.
Doesn't have the software for it, may or may not have the actual hardware.
Doesn't come with FM. The hardware *may* be there and if so could possibly be enabled with a custom kernel but no one knows for sure yet.
The hardware is there, theres just no drivers in the shipped kernel, but yes theres also the chance that att decided to request samsung to remove the fm radio chipset, so that people would use att radio services etc.
Sick and tire of AT&T. Why disable the fm radio?
ATT wants to make more money off of their subscribers by making them use the ATT app which causes the user to use data (pay for a larger data plan) and pay a monthly subscription fee.
The Euro version comes with an FMRadio.apk I installed it and the GUI works fine (even detected that I didn't have my headphones plugged in) but, threw an error that the app couldn't start the radio.
So, my conclusion would be that we just need to get the drivers from the Euro version of the Galaxy S and put them into a custom kernal and install the FMRadio.apk = we would have a working FM radio.
Should be very possible and very likely to happen!
If you want it to just listen to the Radio, try IHeartRadio it has an extremely large collection of Radio stations across the nation streamed to the phone.
Once again: that uses data. I think we were hoping for a REAL WORKING FM RADIO. This should be possible.
thanks for the feedback guys. I really don't understand why ATT always want to cripple these devices.
Hopefully someone will get it to work.
Can't blame AT&T solely here. It looks like none of the US spec Galaxy S phones will have FM radio.

I heart radio only has clear channel stations. So if the station you want to listen isnt owned by clear channel, you need to find an alternative.
I use RadioTime on my squeezebox for both local and non-local radio, and it appears they have a (pay) app.

pandora app in store but it uses data to stream your music, just music of your choice nothing else
what is the outcome of this investigation?
I use this portal http://www.thestreamcenter.com/ and streamfurious http://www.streamfurious.com/ but I agree! We need to get our FM radio hardware working. I did this with my Fuze and Tilt II thanks to xda.

Doesn't make sense, since the HTC Aria has an FM radio. My guess would be Samsung didn't take the time to get FCC clearance for the FM radio.
Why did this thread fall to page 3... It's still a problem and I want to know if it has an FM radio or not.
Dont get me wrong, all cell companies are evil. but dont blame them for something that the hardware manufacturers are obviously doing.
im in canada with rogers with the i896 version of the i897 model, NO FM.
not even the international version of the i897 model has working FM.
dont blame att.... for this.
Does this phone support it and are there apps to tune in?

Hi I use Tunein Radio for me is the best radio app cuz i cant listen to internet and my FM & AM local station too!!!
It's currently unclear if the skyrocket has a fm tunner and if it's hooked up. There's no way currently to tune to fm radio. You can stream radio stations like PR_IST_BOY pointed out but that will use data .
<Removed>
Yes correct. The og sgs2 and the skyrocket were advertised as having fm radio. But i read the og ags2 does infact not. So most likely neither do we

not to confuse the issue but there is fm capable hardware in the infuse, it just doesnt have drivers and probably lacks an antenna. but yeah, you will never see fm on the infuse or captivate (the captivate doesnt have fm hardware) i dont know why samsung doesnt build north american phones with fm but other manufacturers do. just something you have to deal with i guess.
yeah with LG the app uses my headphones as an antanna

I would love to see FM radio on my Infuse. To bad almost every phone in the US lacks FM radio. Something to do with internet radio services being popular there(to use up more data plan)

Also because FM radio in the USA sucks.
Thank Clear Channel for that, not Broadcom.
Hey guys I was just wondering if anyone knows if there is a rom out there for the Verizon galaxy s3 that enables fm radio support? Or if the phone even has fm radio capabilities.

Is there a reason for FM radio? Since there are apps like Tunein Radio.
US gs3 doesn't support fm radio. Only the international version does
I want the fm radio for when i'm working, since using the fm radio doesnt take up data and only uses the battery life it is very ideal for me when working.

In checking data use using the iHeart app, it's pretty minimal. Far less than, say, streaming videos, etc.
That's the one thing I do miss about my international phone is the fm radio. Yes there is the iheart app, but if your station isn't on there you're sol.
If not on iheart, you can check TuneIn or Radio.com apps...that'll pretty much cover the majority of broadcast stations. Plus some stations have their own apps.
I plan buy this mobile but I want know if it supports FM radio?
Normally it hasn't... But some other phones, like Droid 3, support it via application like Spirit FM etc...
It has the same solution???

The chipset of our phone supports it, but I seem to recall that our phone doesn't have an antenna connected to the pins to enable it.
too bad... same situation in Samsung i927 too??
I don't think so.
