The new ES File Explorer now lets you stream videos and images over network without it having to download first. It's pretty impressive and instant. People who are using file manager HD over this should really make the switch.
Best of all no need for Root. Now if only it could work with CBR files.
I'm using file manger hd with cifs manager and I can stream video just fine. How is this different? Is it supposed to take care of the cifs manager part?

No need for CIFS manager, no need for root. It also comes with dropbox as an option. It's the ultimate file manager. Also no ads.

I believe he's referring to this one on the basis that there are over 95,000 reviews of it in the Market. I remember reading about this file manager before, seems quite popular. BTW I also use File Manager HD.
What is the difference to upnplay?
For me its the same, i still need to use rocketplayer to play my avi movies.
Seems faster and supports smb... dunno if upnplay supports that.
i dont see any speed advantage
I've found it, but it wont stream the subtitles...
I'm using Moboplayer to play my files and it starts in 5 seconds and I can scroll anywhere I want in the video with no lag. Didn't test with subtitles. Since I am not rooted, I'm very impressed. That's all.

Anyone have problems connecting to the pc? When I turn my pc on it works, but a couple hours later it cant connect. Shows the possible errors such as wifi isn't on, or out of network scope, but once i restart my pc it can connect again.
Anyone know how to fix this, I'm using windows 7 pro 64bit, and Asus Transformer with prime 1.6v2.

errr.. is it just me, or did somebody actually fire the people that made the AllShare app in the SGS and just took a bunch of their notes and incorporated the WORST ideas that other team had ever devised?
Ok, so AllShare wasn't a top-notch app in the SGS to begin with, but AllShare on the Tab is just a bad joke. Loading the list of files takes ~ x10 as much time as it takes on the SGS and then .. NO OTHER option to just display the files (ALL THE FILES) in alphabetical order, regardless of albums/folders however you had/wanted them to be ordered on the server... At least the SGS's version let's me browse folders. Tab's version just displays a HUGE list of files in alphabetical order, which is NOT really good for usage...
Are there any other apps to fill in that void? I mean there are DLNA servers left and right, but are there clients? That I could play videos (preferable support for dualaudio+subtitles) from my DLNA server?
Id like to know this as well... or indeed any client that will stream in full quality over the lan.
Me too ! Please write if you tryed some other DLNA client working on Samsung Galaxy Tab
I tried AndroMote. It works fine for me.

????
That's a Remote Control application, NOT a DLNA client as we talked about... At least I understood it so. (You can't watch movies from a DLNA server WITH THE TAB via AndroMote, can you?)
EDIT: Apparently it SHOULD be able, it just doesn't do that on my SGS. Will try on Tab later.
EDIT2: ARGHhh! Yeees, it does work - sorta. It needs to DOWNLOAD the WHOLE file over the connection to the device, THEN play it... with installed available applications, not within the app. so... NO, not really a suitable replacement. It's not really a DLNA media player, but a tool to download files from said server.
Nice to have, I guess, but not what I'm after.
You can do this with any lan file manager. I use Astro smb.

Which is all well and good as long as you're not watching anything decently HD or over 2GB in file size
I agree the AllShare app is aweful. I've found that ES File Explorer over SMB does a good job but neither the built in Video player or Rockplayer behave well with this. It only works if I turn off hardware decode in Rockplayer, which means it cannot keep up with the HD video demands.
UPnPlay in the market has a decent attempt via DLNA however it chokes on HD too.

Indeed i did. And when you sab behaves properly you mean it doesnt work because streamimg headers are not appacked to filetypes.

Twonky looks good and is waaay faster than AllShare, but unfortunately is out of the question since it refuses to play .avi files (and mkvs and wmvs and and. I can't get it to play anything at all really. Don't have any mp4s around, I hear those should work...)
Also, I don't know if it had something to do with the server-side update (I use TwonkyManager v2 in a Win7 machine) but couple of days ago my "browse by folder" ability disappeared completely, no I can just browse everything by date of playlists, which isn't at all practical with folder-based organization...
I'm looking for a streaming solution too for the Tab. On the iPad I had the StreamToMe software running, and it would transcode the video on the fly, and stream to iPhone or iPad. Doesn't seem like there's similar solution on Android. I tried copying some of the movie file I have and it's just laggy to play even locally with vPlayer and RockPlayer. Anyone has a good solution?
I can't post a link because of new member status but if you search "hulu andriod app" in google, there is a link to absolutelyandriodDOTcom (5th link down) about debuging the web browser. I tried doing this on with the web browser that comes with TnT Lite v4.2.4 without any luck. I don't know the technical details, but would this be possible through some other means?
Thanks
Playon.tv mobile will work if you set browser user agent to Android. Watching SNL now.
Hulu works...
Hulu isn't that hard to get working on our G-Tabs. I'm running TNT-Lite 4.2.2 and it works pretty good. A little stutter here and there on HD show but all in all very watchable.

I downloaded the dolphin browser, set the user agent to Android, and set dolphin as the default browser. I launch playon, go to the hulu video I want to watch, and all I see is a thumbnail of the video and some information about the episode. How do you get the video to play?

I installed the version of flash listed in the right-up I posted the link to. Did the HEX edit of the file and I can go to Hulu and watch all videos in Dolphin HD or even the regular browser that comes with TNT-Lite 4.2.2.

I'm on vegan 5.1.1 maybe thats the difference. I did the same as you and still no worky on the sites. oh well playon works great and was already on my pc.

Glad you got it working for yourself.....
Got this working yesterday in vegan 5.1 without playon. Used the fixed flash and the recommended settings for dolphin HD. Works great in mid range resolution. All main hulu streaming works perfect but some redirects like the WB (getting my fiancée hooked on fringe:-D) lose sound/video sync after about 45 minutes. Totally worth the time to do.

Do you have Flash installed and working?
If not try this:
Cut & Paste From - " scsione889 " post - Thanks goes to him for how to install flash...
Step 1.
Download “Adobe Flash Player 10.1.120.1.apk” which you will find attached at the bottom of this post and save it on your tablet (I recommend creating a separate folder to save .apk files in).
Step 2.
On your tablet open up whatever file explorer comes pre-installed with the ROM you’ve selected. In there, open up where you saved your .apk, then select Adobe Flash Player, and follow the on screen instructions to finish installing that.
Flash Download:

Just installed Bitrix gingerbread beta 6.43f and flash from market. Did no flash hacks and playon works great from the web browser or the app. All stock settings.
Does anyone know of a file browser that can see (copy from) media on a home network?? (NOT ROOTED)
Even better can I mount a network folder so all apps can see it?
Comment moved to first post.
File Manager HD or ES File Explorer.
In order to mount the network drive or folder you need to root and use cifs manager. It is also built in to the Prime roms. I have a lot of pictures and a lot of game roms I store on my NAS and I mount that drive using Cifs manager.
I used ES File explorer for the few days I wasn't rooted.
I recommend File Expert and its SMB plugin - which has the added bonus of streaming via SMB, while ES Explorer for example tries to copy movies to its internal storage before playing them...
I found UPnPlay to be really good, and a touch easier than es file explorer.

Thanks for all of the tips, I tried both es file manager and file manager HD. Both of these seem to have troubles streaming video, they must copy the entire file before it starts playing. I will try the others and let you know what I find. Thanks again.
Can someone post the link to the File Expert SMB plug-in, I can not find it.
File managers are exactly that. If you want to stream, use UPnPlay along with MoboPlayer.

I remember trying File Manager HD when I first got my TF. I ended up sticking with File Explorer ES (I think it worked better with my Samba share). I just tried out FM HD again, and wow, so much better. The UI is great, beats out the stock manager by a lot too.
Thanks for getting me to try it again!

Hi guys
Im trying to find a app than can help stream movies and view other files on my PC. I havent had any luck so far and i tried searching but didnt end up with anything that feels simple enough?
On ipad there was a great app that made me able to view all files and play video that converted the files "live" so they were able to play on the pad. Was superb.
Anyone know anything like that?

here's what you do... first figure out what your static ip for your router is... try going to http://www.whatismyip.com/ this should tell u what your ip is... now go into your router... normally by typing 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 depeding on your router... now open up ports 6783 to 6786 in TCP mode (these numbers may change due to your settings in MyCloud Software) now go and manually set up a new connection using the static IP you got from the website and everything should work!!!!!

And just to add clarification, splashtop is a remote desktop tool not a media streamer as such, although as people have said depending on your connection it works just as well as one.

I'm not sure what you mean. I also use upnp and moboplayer and works great. Moboplayer can't stream from the network and mynet does not play any codec other than h.264. With upnp and moboplayer, I don't have to worry about what type of video/audio file it is.
I've been using Upnplay and Mobo player and that combo works great for files served by a media server. I would also like to play files directly from a network share without needing the media server. CifManager sounds perfect except it appears to require root. Any similar options that don't require root? Any other apps that would allow a network drive to be permanently mapped as a folder on the tablet?

First media sharing needs to be set up on your desktop (Google can help with this part) then as long as you are connected to the same home network as your desktop it will show up in upnplay just like it does in mynet (its name will be the set name of the PC). Then you can navigate via libraries or just via the folder paths to find your media files (this is how I do it to avoid setting up libraries). Once u have found your media file run the file using moboplayer/vplayer/etc. This will only work for video.
Hope that helps..

I am having a terrible time trying to upload some videos to YouTube. I took some videos with my point and shoot camera and using a Otg cable and a card reader transferred the videos to the existing "Movies" directory on the "device storage". I can watch the videos on each tablet, but cannot get them to YouTube. If I use dolphin browser and the YouTube Web page I can get as far as choosing the video in the directory but then dolphin browser crashes just as the upload starts. Chrome and Opera Mini do not even give any sort of option to use the Web page to upload a video. If I use the YouTube app to upload I cannot navigate t the folder that contains the videos I want to upload. This seems completely absurd for it to be this difficult to upload to YouTube. I feel like I must be missing something. When I had a ipod touch it was absurdly easy to upload to YouTube. Any suggestions? There must be a way....

I tried that, but nothing happens. It never uploads. I use ES File Explorer. The first time I tried that it looked like YouTube tried to start and didn't, subsequent tries did nothing at all
Astro File Manager worked for 2 videos
I installed Astro File Manager and that worked for two videos by long pressing the file > share > YouTube. Now it either opens the upload window very briefly and then it shuts, or nothing at all. All of these videos are in the Download folder of the device. I have tried moving them to different folders and to the external card. Any more suggestions out there? This is pretty infuriating that it is so hard to UL these videos.
Why can't you just log in to Youtube with a browser then upload the normal way instead of trying the share option?

OP already noted in the original post that he tried using various browsers. If you know from experience that it works on the tablet perhaps you can post a walktrhu?
At the moment the only advice I can give the OP is to verify the version of Youtube installed on the tablet and try again OR try to do the upload using a computer to confirm the issue isn't with the account itself.
I have also found that the ES file manager chokes on trying to upload a video to Youtube. I have been successful using Chrome and logging on to Youtube. Make sure you have enabled javascript and cookies in the Advanced, Site settings in Chrome settings. I use the Chrome 'desktop view'. I absolutely hate the mobile view on this large screen tablet and have not been able to transfer a video in that view yet.
I could not transfer a video from Dropbox to Youtube either.
Dolphin browser does not transfer vids to Youtube for me either.
I have not tried Firefox yet.

Hi, videos are transferred successfully to Youtube through Dolphin on my phone. You can update it to the latest version and check it out, or just consult Dolphin's support team about it by sending an email to [email protected].
