How to extract a keyboard from ROM? - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum. I tried Google and here and I couldn't find an answer. I was wondering how would I extract a keyboard from a custom rom or theme Chooser theme and use it with another? I tried searching for keyboard.apk in root manager and found no results.

I think the stock keyboard is latinime.apk. Not entirely sure but I think that's it.

When installing the keyboard to system/app are you also pushing the lib file to system/lib? May be worth a try.

whats wrong with the gingerbread keyboard? there are many themes for it too.
Some people feel the multitouch of the DX keyboard is more responsive and key size and spacing are better for those big thumbs.

Again I have a stock Nexus S, I really plan on leaving it like this until another Google update or maybe the next version of CM update. As of now though is there a, method to get the Droid X keyboard on a stock unrooted device?

I dont know if someone engineered a data/app apk or not. May take some searching but to the best of my knowledge they're all flashable or pushable packages for rooted devices.

I had tried flashing the keyboard from the Droid X Gingerbread leaks but it alwsyd brings me a force close when I am about to use it. Why is no one porting this? I really loved the Droid X keyboard on my Vibrant.

The thing is most of these keyboards were ported to froyo. I haven't seen any porting of the gingerblur keyboard yet. Did you try the lib file as I had recommended?

ROM Toolbox Pro & Others

I use ROM ToolBoxPro. Now I want to customize my status bar icons. When I install certain things like the battery, it doesn't change. Was wondering if you guys can tell me why. Also tried changing the status bar color itself through ROM toolbox and it does not work. Would any of you guys happen to know how to make it work or maybe another app that can help me customize stuff like that? Also looking for icon packages. Thanks.

Does your ROM use Themes? If not it's probably not going to work no matter what app you use. If your rom does support themes then I don't really know. Sorry if I'm not much help.

How will I know if my ROM supports themes? Will say on the ROM thread?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
It usually does say if it does or doesn't in the thread. If not you can always ask.
Sent from my SGH-I897 using Tapatalk 2
I believe in order for any themes to work it has to be completely deodexed. I know it doesn't work CyanogenMod and I believe it's because it works with it's own theme engine which you can download themes for with the ROM Toolbox. Otherwise, the only ROM I've got to work with it was a stock deodexed ROM.

i could be wrong hopefully someone with more knowledge will jump in
and help answer

Can anyone help me on how to install touchwiz launcher on PAC ROM? I try to manually install the apk but it says that app not installed. Then i try to manually move it to /system it didn't show up either. And i already put the permissions in the correct position but still no luck.
I see that jelly Bam ROM can use the touchwiz launcher on his ROM and i love touchwiz launcher. But i can't seems to install it. Help please.

Why don't you use this ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1792134
It uses the touchwiz launcher and is very smooth. I used it for long time.

Should be there somewhere.
EDIT: weird, I can't seem to find it. It does say it's included on the Google Play page though.

You can use a theme from the play store on a ROM like cyanogen mod to get a similar setup but I don't think there are any sense Roms. There's an lg g2 launcher and xperia ultra launcher that you can use as well.
Also don't be surprised if u see a bunch of troll posts saying to buy an HTC or Samsung if you don't like stock vanilla

Give Nova Launcher a shot. You can theme the hell out of the UI with it. Go check out the Nova Launcher community on G+. You can make it look as you like ... yes... even a bit Sense like.

I sold my gpe HTC one with stock vanilla for my N5. not a fan of sense myself and not sure if this helps but check the HTC gpe forums. They had ported camera and other aspects of Rosie to stock roms. Might be worth a shot. Pretty sure beats is out of the question though and IMO overated.

ok is there any way to port only some of the features of the ROMs? Eg: The multi-window or status-bar/notifications of touchwiz or the blinkfeed of HTC?
I know the camera app of sony has been made available to all "sony" devices but has anyone given it a try on the N5?

I found the issue was the navigation bar. It has to be at stock 100% in order to use it. I'm used to running it at 70% so i reset it to stock and it installed fine and applied the theme fine.
Well I just tried it on the latest OmniROM and it worked fine. I haven't tried applying any themes or anything but it's working.

as stated, revert everything to stock, DPI, navigation bar, disable pie or whatever similar as LMT, then install themer, set as you like then switch back to custom DPI, navbar size and PIE/LMT or halo, worked for me and for FuMMoD too...
