Any success playing Cut The Rope? - Milestone XT720 General

I've overclocked to 1200MHz, freed up my RAM to 90Mb. Its still crashing. Is Cut The Rope out of our phone's league?

Use swap. It works for me even without overclocking. Without swap it just crashes. Even my friend's Milestone 2 (CM7) with 110+ free ram can't start it. The game is greedy. The game is stupid tho.

[Q] Does lowering ram usage actually increase battery life?

I've notice that ram usage on ics seems to be a bit higher than on gb, and battery life is just a tad bit worse, but not by too much. I have debloated as much as I could and kept minimal syncing, and running on mhx's super lite rom ATM. I still get more ram usage than on gb doing simple tasks. I'm just curious if lower ram usage actually contributes to battery battery life. Thanks!

from what I understand about destop power usage, it doesnt matter how much you are using, but how many dimms you have. im sure our phone only has one 1gb dimm, using like 1-1.5v ish. which is pretty low on the power drain meter.
I would think with the LCD screen being by far the largest contributor to battery use, ram use would not be a very large contributing factor to battery savings. It will depend on how you use your phone though.

Ram usage absolutely does not negatively impact your battery life. If anything increased ram usage will help battery life. If you reload an app that is in your ram, it takes much less computing power than to reload it from scratch, which is why task killers are worthless because not only do they deprive you of this ability, they also use extra processing power to remove the task from ram. You have ram for a reason right? This is the reason you want your system to use your ram as efficiently as possible, which means you want it full.
If you haven't already, I'd recommend trying the 2100 mah extended battery for the Galaxy Nexus. I put it in my Skyrocket, and it works great.
Picked it up on sale for around $25 if memory serves about 2 weeks ago. Edit: removed portion of post regarding label removal and battery case sizing adjustment due to safety concerns from fellow members.

Picked it up on sale for around $25 if memory serves about 2 weeks ago. Took home, heated up label with a hairdrier and removed, then used dremel tool to grind down a little of the plastic corners. This helped the battery cover fit. Some folks had it fit fine without modification, but I did this before the instal (as folks talked about in another thread), just to be safe. Good luck.

Just to be safe?? It's not safe at all to dremel a battery
if you want your phone to run smoothly, give it as much ram as you can! Android does an excellent job of managing ram.
Think about it like this. Android thinks of unused ram as "wasted ram". That's why task killers are no good my suggestion is to not worry about ram and leave it be. What I do to that really helps to save battery is to underclock the processor to about 1200mhz or 1000. My phone runs just as smooth as it did at 1500 no lag at all even when playing games like angry birds. And while you may not be able to overclock a stock kernal you can always underclock it

I always UC and UV and don't kill anything

kinda dissapointed for the htc butterfly.

My main purpose to buy the butterfly is to gaming on this full hd beast, but ended up dissapointed.
1st game I try- temple run oz- playable but full of spike lag.
2nd game I try- frontline commando d day- playable and full of spike lag too.
3rd game I try- gun bros 2- totally unplayable, loading super slow, ingame performance smooth while running around, but when happen explosion or too much enemies, game will freeze for 2-3 sec.
SnapdragonS4, 2gb ram, adreno320 should be very impressive SPEC. But gaming sucks a lot on the butterfly. Others scrolling performance is smooth.

Strange, my son plays these games also (i am too old for that **** ) but i didn\t hear him complain. Should be as smooth as butter(fly)
Are you from some other manufacturers go into this topic to put the Butterfly down (like SS fan did)? He he, just for kidding. I play some heavy 3D games such as PS3 simulation, N4SP... and everything perfect. Butterfly is so smooth, fast.

PS1 emulator is fine for me. But I just dont know why Temple Run and Gun Bros 2 lagging like hell. the graphic not really high enough. is it because i using stock rom?
If i look the results of Antutu benchmark an performance increasement of 20 procent is possible by flashing a custom ROM
Think there may be something wrong with your model. The HTC Butterfly has the Snapdragon S4 Pro (was the best in the world a few months ago) so it should be perfectly fine with games like those since they aren't particularly high on the graphics part
Temple Run 2- running smoothly, no lag
Gun Bros 2- no freezing / no lag
Real Racing 3- (which i believe is one of the most graphic intensive games)- running smoothly.
For Temple Run & Gun Bros, I am playing on Power Save On. Real Racing I haven't tried yet, but generally I switch off Power Save mode.
Try restoring to Factory Settings and play again. S4 Pro is a very good processor and Adreno 320 is the latest thing.

your model? mine is X920D. running stock rom. Is it i must flash custom rom to play those game smoothly?
X920D.. Stock ROM.. Not even rooted till now..
Rooting and flashing a custom ROM might increase performance, however it shouldn't be a must since the phone is really fast. I also think maybe something wrong with your phone. I have seen scores with antutu approx 22000 so i cannot imagine not be able to play the latest games......
There must be some problem with your unit. I managed to play those games on my Butterfly when I got it. Temple Run 2 did have some freeze ups but I didn't blame it on the phone but the game since heck I can play modern combat 4 and dead trigger very smoothly. Is it also possible that you have multiple apps running in the background like skype, viber, whatsapp, and others (if you see a lot of icons in your status bar's top left side)?

Shield Idle CPU usage 50 percent!

I noticed lots of lag in just about every android game with high graphics running on my shield. After installing CPU-Z I saw that the shield was throttled down to about 816 mhz and that idle cpu load was at 50 percent.
Rooting it allowed me to use a cpu control app in order to force the cpu to maintain 1912 mhz at all times. However, after OTA 64 I've lost root access and have to deal with the stuttering and lag again. Does anyone know of a non-root solution to this lag? Am I the only experiencing this?
Thanks!

The only way I know is to clear all the running apps and restart the Shield. But I haven't had a problem.
It should have gotten fixed last OTA.

Mortal Kombat X causing a lot of heat!

Does anyone play Mortal Kombat X on their OPO?
If so, does your device get very hot playing the game?
For me, back on Kitkat, the phone got pretty warm after about 10-15 mins of playing, it wasn't too bad. Now I'm on lollipop, after 10 mins of play, the phone was very hot, especially around the camera. (think that is where the CPU/GPU chipset is located) It was so hot I closed the game and turned off the phone for a few mins to cool down. I was scared I was going to fry my phone!
Anyone else having similar experiences with this game? Other games don't really heat the phone up, but MK does have very decent graphics!

More intense apps/games will obviously increase heat output. Though nowadays mobile chipsets much like desktop or laptop chipsets have thermal trips and controls that will throttle the component that is overheating. So I wouldn't actually worry too much about the possibility of frying your phone. (Unless you disabled the thermal trip on a kernel level)
Yeah, a game like MKX does a lot of CPU and GPU work and when you add the display, the device gets warm. It's nothing to worry over.
Buy game console mate..
Confirmed with the same game and any other resource-expensive game. After 10/15 minutes the logcat gets spammed with temperature warnings (over 80 °C) and reboots to prevent damage.
I play the **** out of it, and yes after 20mins or so, it's pretty hot.

to reduce heating u must sacrifice ur little performance
flash a custom kernel
open kernel app n underclock ur cpu to 1.5ghz (dont go beyond it <1497mhz>) and keep ur gpu frequency to max @330 mhz (i would suggest keep it to 200mhz).
optionals
1. also do reduce cpu voltage atleast -30mV.
2. change the governer to silm or zzmove or any thing u like but not performance.
device get warm but doesnt goes to extreme heating .... little lags and glitches can be seen but its acceptable.
love playing in oneplus one )
happy gamming ...
Well I'm glad I'm not alone in experiencing this. I guess ill just have to play in short bursts. I also play Marvel Contest of Champions and that is another 3D fighter but my phone can play that for half an hour without much heat up, MKX has much better graphics so it gets my phone toasty very quickly.
My device is very hot too and killing battery. When i play mk x i disable 2 cores from snayps.. It doesn't effect performance.

Just install ak put cpu speed to 1.3ghz max undervolt to 140 max for pvs 7(it may reboot at first but it will get stable for gaming with no heat) use build.prop and init.d tweak to keep it your One fast.
I play MKX and godfire with this settings with no lag at all.

I moved to the CM12.1 by SultanXDA and on his rom, the phone is underclocked to 2ghz and I've noticed the phone doesn't get as hot while playing games now which is great. Another added bonus of using that ROM, its very good!
I hear ya bro
Yes the device does get warm to hot depending upon your environment.
I have noticed that while playing the game in public(non-ac), it does get pretty heated.. whereas when you do play in an ac room or a room with adequate cool air circulation using fans, it doesnt heat up so much.
Also, the internet(cellular/wifi) being on plays a huge impact on if the device heats up or not.
Moreover, I noticed that it heats up more for graphically demanding games like MKX,NOVA3 and Modern Combat 5 and not so much while playing less demanding games like Golf Star,Asphalt, etc even though all these games are typical heavy games.
Like suggested by many above, try underclocking(powersaver mode) and undervolting. It works for me to some extent.
Had the same issue of lot of heat and huge battery drain, but kept playing for hours and then I gave up on it, because I love OPO's battery life and I don't want to ruin it
Yes... very hot

Constant high CPU usage?

For soke reason, ony galaxy s6, there is a constant high CPU usage, out of 2.5gb that's free I usually have about 600mb to play with, meaning the phone becomes sluggish at times. Is there a cause or a fix for this?
What you are talking about is RAM not CPU.

Nah, dont worry about that pal that's how android is managing its RAM. It is not like how Windows operate(more free ram=the faster the phone) .
The main reason ur phone is sluggish that's because your phone is heating up, I guess your playing Heavy 3d Rendered games while charging. The Cpu/Gpu throttles down their clock speed to reduce heat. If your lookinh for ways to disable throttling, impossible, without that safety measures = your phone will be fried instantly
S6 is a beast phone. It depends how you use it .
