Hi all just wondering if anyone here has replaced the internal speakers on their TF? Yesterday I right speaker just died, if I kind of twist it sound comes back for a sec then off again. So I opened this thing up to see how hard it is to replace it. 20 minutes later everything open and do indeed find dead speaker. Does anyone know of where to buy the speakers? Will the speakers from their netbooks work? I personally don't RMA anything so I actually would like to fix it myself. If anyone wants to know how to do it I can help. Thanks

Well I havent replaced it yet. I guess what I'll do is order speakers from the asus netbooks. I'll ley you know how it works out.
I pulled my speakers, unplugged from circuit board and removed from TF.
I found, ordered some replacement plugs and used 30awg to make a few replacement wiring harnesses. It seems the original speaker wire is thinner than 30awg - in my opinion.
I got two different sizes of replacement speakers to test. I have not even tested the originals with my new ($50 scope awg, another story) audio wave generator since removing the speakers.
I was planning to complete my speaker tests and mod the next time I opened my tablet. But, I am not sure when it will happen.

So I've been using the Nexus S for a while now(about 3 months). And the other day, after I plugged in the headphones to listen to music, the external speaker stopped working after I unplugged them.
It worked intermittently afterwards but then stopped all together.
I was wondering if anyone else experienced this same issue and if there is a fix for it other than sending my phone back to Samsung for a repair.
I think it's got to be a short in the headphone jack or something sticking since it was intermittent. That's the only thing I can think of since it hasn't been dropped at all.
Any help or a link to the rear speaker module part so I can do a direct replacement would be great.

Have you tried plugging the headphones back in, then out again? This used to happen to my laptop, however since you said the speaker was intermittent I'm also thinking it may be a completely different issue.

This happened to mine and i found out it was some rubbish stuck in the earphone plug so maybe try somehow cleaning it out ,,, if not then maybe its faulty somewhere.
Mine happened the same. It started hearing the speaker's sound very rare and then it stopped working.... But then I blow into the speaker and the sound came back....
Yeah at this point after cleaning the headphone jack, and even tried blowing into the speaker I'm lust looking to replace the speaker part. No just the ribbon with the front speaker as well, but I am specifically looking for a replacement part for the speaker enclosure unit. So if anyone has any idea where i would pick it up, let me know or shoot me a link to it.

I hook up my phone to my auxiliary in my car and when it's fully plugged in, it only works with one speaker. Same happened when I used headphones as well. If I twist the aux cable a little, I can get it to work somewhat but it's very annoying because pretty much any movement causes it to go back to one speaker. Definitely an annoying issue especially while trying to use my phone as a music player as well. This happen to anyone else? Any type of fix for this?
I have the same exact issues. I don't believe there is a fix without opening the phone up. I have heard of others having the same issues but I haven't done any research on it.
I definitely thought I read about other ppl having this issue when the phone first launched. Also vaguely remember a thread about it too. But thanks for replying and def not opening my phone lol. It'll become a $300 paper weight
I had this issue as well. It was a problem from the first time i ever plugged headphones in. I thought i was going to have to send it back. It went on for weeks. Turns out, I didnt have them plugged all the way in even though i thought i did. I had to push much harder for them to go all the way in. I felt stupid. Work great now lol. Not saying that you have this problem. Just giving my experience.
Samsung uses a metric variation on thier male headphone jack. The actual female phono jack on the device is for 1/8" connectors. For some reason headphone/line cables are coming out in a metric size that the manufacturers claim is compatible with a true 1/8" jack and they are, but they are slightly undersized than a true 1/8" jack which can cause a loose connection resulting in channels not working properly.
The tip is also slightly modified on the metric male jacks causing that "not fully inserted issue".
Stick with good name cables/headphones with true 1/8" plugs, and that will stop alot of issues that may arise.

My son works for verizon and has a GS3 also and he says try shutting off voice commands if you have them on. They cause issues with the head phone jack sometimes.
Settings/language and imput/voice command for apps.

Will try this next time I can and the other suggestions next time I'm in my car. Just don't want to jam it too far in though and end up breaking it lol. Too bad my cars blue tooth audio doesn't work because then this issue would be solved for most of my audio uses
Exact same problem here. Started within the first week of owning the phone. Cant plug it in any further. I think its a bad jack as every 3.5 mm connector ive tried including the one that came with the phone has the same problem. I plugged mine in daily at least 5 times. Just using bluetooth now got a belkin bluetooth adapator for 25 from amazon that is tied in with a fm modulator from amazon for 14. A hack on a hack but it works. Not the best audio fidelity but good enough.
I've only been recently using my headphones with this phone, though they have worked fine. That final click for a positive stereo connection is more tough than one might expect for a portable device, but it's quite secure feeling.
With my Sennheiser PX-100 portables, there's no connection problem with this phone and balance between the speakers seems good. The connection needs to be made fully, pushed down flush with the phone edge and any phone protector needs to lie out of range of the connector, IMHO.
I then tested with my over-the-ear cans, but purposefully using a 1/4" to 1/8" adapter whose 1/8" connector was bent, and noticed a slight left channel bias. The bent adapter did seem to have a problem getting 100% into the jack, as well - still, it was pretty much all the way in with only the slightest bit of lift on one side.
So, I would agree with the poster above who mentioned that - if there are differences between your headphone's male connector and the type they happen to use in this phone - even a slight difference in connector vs jack size could cause an issue for playback.
If all male connectors give problems, I guess the possibilities are:
a. Male connector is not being inserted 100% flush to the phone edge
b. Phone cover is interfering with the connector being 100% inserted
c. Bad phone jack or downstream connection

Pushing it in all the way is not always the fix.. Cant push any of the several headsets I tried in any further. Bad jack add insult to injury the factory charger that came with the phone mysteriously just died wtf .

If it won't push in such that the male connector's body is flush with the phone edge, then it is either a bad jack on the phone to begin with (your guess) or all your connectors are somehow incompatible with the new size of jack this phone uses, it would seem.
You're saying the wall charger just died? Might be a warranty on that from Verizon, I'd go to a store or give them a call.

Galaxy s3 headphone jack temp fix
I've had the same problem, tried buying a new cable but audio would only play from one channel
Today playing about I noticed if I pressed the jack slightly to one side it would work, so simple solution, I've bent the metal end of the jack ever so slightly and now it works like a charm with my galaxy s3. No more endlessly messing about playing withthe cable till iit works. Now I say again, vend the jack end slightly till it works, not too much else it might not plug in at all. Hope this helps people out!! Mark

I also have exactly the same problem in my car. I have a 3.5mm audio cable which worked fine for the first few weeks and then all of a sudden it stopped playing through the left speaker. At the same time, I also have crackling connection issues when I plug my S3 into a speaker in the kitchen. Headphones seem to work fine though.
It's almost as if some static caused a fault inside the female jack on the S3 given that it worked perfectly for ages and then all the problems came at once.
I tried disabling the voice commands as someone noted above (they were annoying me anyway) and it seemed to make a difference to the crackling but not the reception out of the left speaker - its still very low volume.
I was interested in the post from the guy who said there was a slight difference between 1/8 and 3.5 mm. Which way around is it? The cables I have all claim to be 3.5mm, so are you saying that the S3 has a 1/8th female jack?
I wonder also if there is a 3.5mm to 1/8 inch converter that would do the job. A quick google search didn't throw anything up though.
My headphone jack has been janky lately, if I nudge the jack while it's inserted the sound will cut out briefly in one ear, it's mostly fine nearly all the time, but it's getting annoying.
I recently had the phone open to replace the battery, and I tried to fix it myself at the time by raising the height of the gold contacts there so any movement wouldn't disconnect it, but no dice.
Will buying a brand new socket for it and just replacing that fix it?
If so how much should I pay for a replacement one (eBay)?

Is it possible something is stuck inside the headphone jack? It's also possible that there is something wrong with the motherboard.
I assume you don't have another phone to test the headphone jack?
I have the same problem, sometimes it's the cable of the headphones, so check if it's okay.
I have a spare new one. The headphone socket slots in a gap. Have you looked at a, video showing how to replace it? Do that then take yours to bits and put it back .it should be ok. If not let me know. If you are in the UK I can give you a new one, free.

Yesterday I had an issue with my OPO (a 16GB Silk White model). In particular: I was listening to my music with my headphones connected, when suddently the wire of my headphones got stuck into something and they got forcely disconnected from the phone. When I replugged them I heard a "fast thinking" noise (similar to the noise that you listen right before a call, when your phone is near to a speaker. I hope to be understood). I played a song and there were audio problems. I already checked the headphones with an other phone and they are completely fine. So I think that something bad happened to the phone. To solve the problem, it's necessary to replace the whole motherboard (because the audio connector is placed on the MOBO itself).
I looked around surfing the net and I found another one (a 64GB model) for sale (at an affordable price) so I was thinking to buy this one and replace the motherboard with mine. My question is, are there any problems on replacing a 16GB model's MOBO with a 64's? (I mean, electronically speaking (incompatible voltage, or current problems and so on...). In other words, is this operation legit?
Of course I'm opened to any suggestion and advice.

So the idea is to keep the battery, screen, camera module, usb connector, antenas and just replace the MOBO?
Since between the 64gb and the 16gb version the only difference should be really the storage size. I dont see any issue coming up.
Everything u are worried about is controlled by th mobo since every connector and chip is on the mobo. Plus the batfery on both versions are the same... The only problem u may encounter may be the camera if there was any revisions to it.

I replaced my Nexus 5 battery after it was showing signs of age, and now battery life is good.
However, after changing my battery, I have noticed that the speaker is not working anymore. Thinking that I might have damaged it during battery replacement, I got a new one off eBay. Sadly enough, I replaced the speaker with a new one and the issue still persists.
Earpiece works 100% and headphones work 100%
So I was wondering what to look for; any pointers?

When you say "phone speaker works", you mean the earpiece speaker at the top of the phone?
Is it possible the USB flex cable was damaged?

Yes. I mean earpiece, I am sorry.
The USB Flex Cable was also replaced; this was due to getting a static screen on my phone. As far as I know, the flex cable is responsible for charging and such but not for audio. I might be wrong.
Edit: The Flex cable was replaced around 5 months ago, not now. I re-assembled the cable to make sure, but to no avail.
I replaced half the parts in this bloody thing!

Mine had the same behaviour, is the flex female on the mainboard that connects between mainboard and speaker, check how to fix audio at youtube.
If u press somewhere behind ur camera u get sound?
